UV filters were an actual thing in the film days, especially at altitude. On film it was difficult to cut light to certain parts of the spectrum. Most digital sensors are already filtered at the sensor coverglass for UV and IR so adding a UV filter is like adding a clear filter. There are still a few specialised sensors without UV coatings for specialised applications.
I just bought one and use it mainly on my cycling helmet when I stop to pick up rubbish (plogging). It overheats a lot, but please keep in mind that I live in Brisbane Australia and we're currently in a heatwave.
I can't understand how DJI missed the opportunity to put a knock out punch by simply listening to go pro owners complaining about issues they were having their cams and build that cam. The original OA I think is still the best value action cam for most users if you can still find one for sale. I still use mine and I just works. Nice vid as always David!
The orignal is indeed great - I dropped mine 50 foot onto concrete and it was still running unscratched - but for people like me who cannot hold a camera horizontal to save their life, lack of horizon levelling is the big drawback.
Ya, gorilla glass is here for that. I thought the same since the very beginning. I have it, since the first day, on my GoPro4 Silver, on lens and back screen. And I don't get why this was never mentioned. Cellphones don't have "replaceable" screens too, so people protect it.
That’s absolutely an option, BUT I would warn that the stick in lens covers are not optical glass. Plus they gave adhesive for them to mount. So you’re now taking non-optical quality glass and a layer of adhesive and putting that in front of your lens. If picture quality isn’t a huge deal, then I would say go for it. For sure better than nothing! But if picture quality is a priority, then avoid the adhesive and go for magnets👍
@@DavidManningvlog I never notice a difference on my GoPro since then. Safe and sound. There's also SmallRig case for it already that protects both parts all around.

Hi I bought the camera a few days ago, and saw that it empties irrationally, and also heats up very much, is it possible to fix it or do something that it will work, it really sucks
fixed lens cover removes chanses of leaks or condensation under the glass. A magnetic UV filter solves the problem and keeps the same level of water resistance. For actovities with risk of impact you can use some gaffer tape to secure the edge of the magnetic filter to the Action 2 . maybe there is some silicone sleeve available soon for that too.
I always enjoy how you present issues and talk about things in your videos. Great job as always. Definitely thinking of getting an Osmo Action 1 at some point.
First I thought this will be a quite shallow review, only telling us to use the "Andy"-filters for protection, but the you explained it well. While flying my drone with the filters I didn't notice a lot of stabilization issues, but just holding it I saw some jitters... My video will be out today, greets, Mario
Careful cause I picked up set of ND filters but now the camera with the filter on does not fit into my Ulanzi metal cage :( Gonna see if I can shave the sides of the ND filters to make em fit...
Is the cage that tight around the front face of the camera? I had a GoPro cage where I had to have the ND filter off to get it in the cage, but once in the cage, I could get the ND filter on. Then when I wanted to take the GoPro out, I would have to remove the ND filter first. That possible on your setup?
@@DavidManningvlog yes it is way too tight, shaving the sides of the filter doesn't look like an option, so gonna take the cage to local shop to see if we can shave the inside off a bit to fit it in.
@@DavidManningvlog maybe there are chaper aftermarket dive cases, you could drill holes in the dive case where the microphones are. you would have an impact resistant cage for activities where the camera can fall and have harsh impacts.
I'm a fan of the Hero 10 just for how I use action cams. I think the Action 2 has some really good use cases though, just not great for how I use them. Quality wise though, they're both about equally good👍

Halo Sir, I just bought a DJI Action 2 & have some issues. Only about 3 minutes recording then automatically stop. I did factory reset then just about 6 minutes recording automatically stop & the warning text is "automatically stop due to overheating". Also the chest necklace magnet is upsidedown to put the camera. I tried any possibilities to put DJI camera properly but it is still a bit weird. Please help & advise. It will be nice if you can make & upload solution RUclips video for these problem. Thank you very much.
Having watched a number of reviews of these filters, and having had to comment on them to point out that they can seriously mess with the EIS, and that the UV filter is a good way to give a measure of protection to the lens - now you've gone and said all that in your proper review and I've not nothing left to say. Except... the UV filter is I think square, and it makes the camera look that much less like a camera. So if you want to wear it and not look like you are going round making a video of everything and everybody, then the UV filter does help lower the profile of the camera. And it shouldn't mess with the EIS, as you say.
Love the Freewell! Do they make a lenses for Sony Rx-100? The Mag Filter I bought sticks out from the edge of my lense so it gets bumped off, hitting the ground a lot!. Sucks! I would love one like Freewell that's more flush with the edge of the lense.
If DJI is listening - make a rugged, water proof action camera out of the new Mavic 3 - micro 4/3's camera set up. The dynamic range for 🏄♂️ surf, 🌞 sun and ❄ snow would be much appreciated.
