It depends on the user tbh, go with the Go2 if you want something cheaper and okay with certain limitations of the camera. Go with Action 2 if you want a more tech-advanced action/vlogging camera. Personally I think the Action2 is the better choice!
The color profile on the Action 2 is much brighter but other than that it's really hard to tell the difference between the two cameras. I just picked up the Action 2 and recorded my first video with it and I'm loving it.
I will say, I am using it to record candle videos so nothing crazy. I wanted something small to pack around and also use for up close shots that require a nice small camera.
I'm surprised at how much I liked the audio after using every other action camera out there and never being fully impressed.
The biggest con I can see with the action 2 is the lack of lens cover, but again I am not doing any action stuff with it. LOL
It does make me nervous carrying it around though, I am still placing it back into the box sleeve when Im not using it though to keep it safe. I don't have to do that with any other camera.
Thanks David for again another nice video. Always enjoy them. We went with the GO 2. Our daughter intends to start making videos for her new pup which was a factor. We were able to get a pet kit harness as well as a selfie stick that works really well for the GO 2 and it's home. Stabilization, editing in pro, removable lense cover and the ability to swap it with an ND filter lense cover were all factors. The GO 2 crazy small size also allows you to vlogg make really interesting POV perspectives and the accessories it comes with and that you can get just work. And while it may not be 4k the video looks really good. I sound like a bit of a fan boy. Sorry. Hope these comments help someone else. All the best with your family.

I just got a Insta360 Go2. It will compliment my GoPro Hero 7 Black action camera. I wanted a camera that is small, super portable, easy to move between mounts, and fun to use. The Go2 is that camera. Plus the horizon levelling for a very tiny camera is awesome!
I'm a bicycle tourist and like small lightweight cameras to use on the helmet and occasionallyl switch to a stick or handlebar mount. The Action 2 and GO2 seem like a better fit over my GoPro Hero 8. The Action 2 is easier to switch with its magnetic mounts. Sold the GO2 because it generates huge files and requires work in post to get the desired stabilization. So the Action 2 will likely be my bike touring companion. Thanks for all your good and interesting videos!

I have the Go2 now and testing this week and it blows me away. So little so powerful and when it cones to accessoires so incredibly cheap and convenient. The Action 2 for me is marketing failure..... Everybody expected an action cam and we got a vertical Insta360 R.
I love the insta360 editing features and especially the varioys aspect ratios!
I just the Go 2. Been using GoPros and DJI cams for a while. I can’t believe how great Insta’s app is! Now I want to sell my GoPro Max and get the One X2.

I have GO 2, and it's phenomenal! Nothing beats it. It's all about size, weight and reframe option. Have it everywhere with me.
How about the battery backup ??
The removable lens cover is an optional extra with the Action 2, it's supplied with the Go 2 - points go to Insta360 but it's not a total fail for DJI. When I dropped my Go 2, the lens cover was undamaged. The rest was a write-off...
You were a bit naughty and didn't mention that the Action 2 can transfer its memory contents to the screen module's SD card. When you are travelling that's a big plus. With the Go 2, you need your laptop with you or a phone with plenty of spare space, or an OTG USB hub with card slot (I think I was the first to puzzle that out).
Lastly, your 'plus' for the Go 2, reframing, is my minus! Personally rarely used that feature, but I still had to process every clip to get the stabilisation. And then I was editing with a copy, which at least in theory is not a good idea.
But right now, here, the original Go 2 is going cheap for half the price of the Action 2 - I'm tempted to get one again...

I'd choose the Insta360 Go 2 because I want to use it for bike riding, jogging, horseback riding and ziplining. It looks like the stabilization would be great for these activities.

I purchased the Go 2 months ago and although I enjoy the convenience of it, I feel there's something lacking in this cam. Mind you, I believe it's good value for money, but yeah when you're using it you'd feel like you'd want something more from your camera. Which is why I sold it and got the Action 2 instead. And it's the one I can definitely keep! Something a step better than the Go 2, same form but it's smarter and has more features in it!

I had the insta go2 but if the light is not perfect, the image is not clear. So I sold it and got the dji. And is great. Image is amazing. Now if insta would get a new go3 with better sensor, I would get it.

I have the go2 with the 32 only because the 64 wasn't available when I purchased it and absolutely love it. The ability to just carry it around in my pocket and just always having it is great. I literally daily carry it because it is so easy. I even forget I have the necklace on I wear it so much. Only regret I not having the 64

From a value prospect for what you get, The g2 seems like the winner. Lots of weird design choices for the action 2.
About 5 months ago I was looking for a sling bag, not for carrying camera gear, but more as a man purse for carrying my and my kids stuff... I loved the peak design everyday sling and started to watch reviews. I've always just used my phone to capture my now 7 and 9 year old doing their wacky stuff, but after watching your review I got an itch to buy a camera. Wanted something small and durable, so started with a GoPro. As small as a GoPro is I want smaller, and am now looking at these 2 cameras. The footage will only be for collecting memories, I'm leaning towards the Go 2. I know most people on here are using professional editing software, can anyone speak to the mobile apps of DJI and insta360? Looking for ease of use. You do a great job in your videos David, keep it up!

If you film in 4:3 on the a2 you have plenty of resolution and possibilities. For me it looks best in 4k60 4:3 rocksteady, dewarp or maybe wide for an acrobatic FPV flight... at least you didn't praise the go2 as much as Ben from Authentech which was also sponsored by insta...

Oh man, I did a whole section on mounting, but it didn’t make the final edit! They’re both pretty sweet with the magnetic mounting options, but I like the GO 2 mounts a bit better. Mainly that the mounts wrap the camera, giving it a more secure feel!

The two issues I had with the G2 was it would overheat at around the 9 minute mark and I had to do the extra step of dropping my footage in another app in order to edit it in Fcpx. Then if you had multiple clips you had to export them one at a time.
I have had the overheat issue also and some weird connection issues. That said is a cool little camera and great for unique angles and stealth use.
Man, I've had a few people say that, but I haven't seen it overheat when I'm out using it. I've only seen it overheat in the desk tests with no airflow. The ProVideo mode's extra step is a benefit for me though because I dig the ability to reframe a bit and change aspect ratio in post. For sure everyone's use case on these cameras will determine which is best for them though👍
@@DavidManningvlog I hated to get rid of it but it seems like new cameras come out every other month and I tend to buy them haha. I mostly was using it on the pendant when it would overheat which was the main reason I got it. Thanks for the awesome videos btw just started watching 👍🏾
The insta 360 subreddit is dull of overheating complaints. Imo whats the use of such a cam which cant even do continuous recording for more than 10 mins? It basically beats the purpose of owning an action cam in first place. I love the form factor of go2 but imo action 2 is much reliable now it comes down to the person how well you can handle the action 2
I am a cyclist who does a lot of road cycling but also MTB, and I use a lot of different accessories for getting the desired stuff, it is sometimes that I will end up using a selfie stick for other projects and so fourth but I have the GO2 and the ACTION 2 and for me if I am worried about something being high quality then I go the Action 2 but if I need a camera out on the jumps I go the go 2.
I have the Insta360 Go 2 and the GoPro Hero 10, and it's a very similar argument. I feel like they both have their areas that they are better, but I do like how the Insta360 Go 2 is so easy to use for more kinds of shooting, but in ProVideo mode, that battery life sucks before you have to put it back in the charger.

I just spent a week in Palm Springs on vacation with my family. I brought my Osmo Action 1 and my Go2. I kept the Go2 in my pocket all the time and got way more footage than I would have otherwise. It’s just so easy to pull it out of your pocket and start filming. I used the Osmo Action a lot also but that was all deliberate filming. I really like both cameras but I really enjoy being able to capture the spontaneous moments with the Go2.

I love my 360 go2! If they want to improve anything on the go2 it would be to make it 2 or 4 K, AS LONG AS IT DOESNT INCREASE THE SIZE AND WEIGHT. the size and weight is it’s best feature!
I returned my Action 2 because of software-, overheating-, dark image- and reliability problems. But one pro is that you have your footage always ready for editing. With Insta360 you need to export in an additional step before you can use it with other software. You can adjust more after shooting but it takes more time, errors (my One R freezes all the time, still in beta phase?) and work.
I've heard there go 2 has major overheating issues also.

Now, that is how you do a review - perfect. I own both and they are different but the same - you nailed how to explain that. I think the insta360 go 2 is the best and with 64gb, it is a winner.
As a motorcyclist. I wish you could run just a small lense between your eyebrows and run a little wire to the main unit mounted on the back of the helmet so that weight would not be felt by my neck. Oh and I need a simple mic that doesn’t pick up a ton of wind. I find mounting a GoPro on the chin is too low

Nice comparison! I got the Action 2 after checking out reviews of both these 2 cameras! Both are good in my opinion. But I have good experience with my Osmo Pocket before so I went with DJI again this time!
I can't wait until you try the Action 2 snowboarding. Because out of hundreds of videos on the Action 2, I don't think there's been even one that considers the camera's COLD temperature performance. One of the reasons I bought an Action 1 as a skier was a RUclips demonstration that it could keep working even at minus 20 C -- while every GoPro up to the Hero 9 had cold weather problems.
My Action 1 has never crashed or frozen. But there were always features it lacked in comparison to the Hero 9 and 10 -- most importantly for skiing, it lacked the ultrawide and horizon levelling of the latest GoPros. The Action 2 has added these features, but with a listed minimum operating temp of 0 C, will it still work in the real world for snow sports?
The Acrion 1 is just an incredible camera in every type of weather.
I’m super stoked to get this thing in cold temps! More importantly though, I’m curious to see how the internal battery holds up in cold temps. Being that the mods aren’t waterproof, that internal battery is going to be clutch! The 22gb is rough, but you could keep a mod in your pocket and transfer a run on the ski lift back up. We’ll see how it plays out!

- Gopro 9/10 batteries: 10-35degC or 14-95degF
- A1 batteries: -10 to 40 degC or 14-104degF
- A2 batteries: 0-40degC or 32-104degF
GP10 new Enduro batteries coming soon will be available on Nov 30th will be able to handle -10degC or 14degF.
Went out with the Action 2 for an MTB ride in a cold day here in Utah (5 degrees Celsius). I got a message from the camera saying that it would turn off the screen because of the cold temperature (but it kept recording with no problem).

When I share videos I made with family and friends I always get asked by one of them, What camera did I use to make the video? I always send them the insta 360 go2 website. Most are surprised about the size of the camera and the quality of the video. A lot of my videos are shot with the 360 go2. So I just ordered the 360 X3 a couple of days ago. Can’t wait to see how that does. But I believe my 360 go2 will always be in my pocket and the clip mount is always in my truck. I just wish I could order 2 more clips for a spare and one for my house ballcap. 🤣🤣🤣

Tons of smoothing on the Action 2 - viewing on a 40" monitor. There were several that I thought the Go 2 looked a ton better. The vibrance signature for blues and greens are definitely aggressive on the insta 360 which is a giveaway, but the clarity and detail is way too close to justify the huge price difference. The loser this year is definitely DJI, they aren't offering anything that you can't get elsewhere and better... except maybe magnets?

You say the USB C port is open and that worries you but on phones its also open they they are still waterproof. I think the SD slot is more of a concern
Phones have a different type of sealing around their ports and even then, they tend to get damaged from time to time. The Action 2 mods say that they are not waterproof or dustproof. So no rating at all for them😐
I feel the thumbnail is misleading. It implies there's a huge $190 price difference between the two. But you can get the DJI Action 2 with a power module instead of a front-facing screen for $399. So, really, it's just a $70 price difference for a production with something that the Instago2 doesn't have -- a screen.

One thing that this clip did not mention is Go2 ability to reframe the shot in post. you can do roll, tilt & pan (to a degree - till you reach the edge of its hemisphere) with mobile app. I'm not sure if Action2 can do these - could not find anyone mention yet.

Man, I must just not be filming with my actions cameras the same as other people. I've filmed 15-20 minutes clips on both of these cameras without any overheating issues. I'm almost always skateboarding or biking though, so a ton of airflow cooling them down. What's your main use case?
@@DavidManningvlog I live in a tropical country. I also film 5-10 min clips, I use the camera to film my dogs when we go out walking.

Nice video! I also made a comparison as well. After having both, I prefer the Action 2 for simple vlogging and uploading on to Instagram Reels. I love the screen so I don't have to reframe in post and I rather frame and crop out the sides in my editing program than using a separate software to do so. It takes a long time to export everything out of Pro mode files, editing them and then export the final product.
Nice comparison video. Very helpful. Pros and cons for each. I have to disagree somewhat on stabilization. Certainly the Go 2 rocks horizon levelling, although the latest firmware for the Action 2 improves it a lot and adds 4k. But as seen in your running clips, if you focus on the buildings in the background, in the Go 2 footage they bounce around noticeably, while in the Action 2's it's "rock steady" 😉
noticed that flickering buildings in the background in in the go 2 where as it's smooth on the action 2
Bought the Action 2 a couple of days ago for FPV mostly and from the first few tests I love it. Only thing that bothered me was the lens distortion when you change the field of view to wide or super wide.
You running any sort of lens protection on the Action 2? Feels like FPV with no replaceable lens cover would be a scary game to play

Also another con of the Go2 in pro mode is you have to process the file on the app or desktop. It’s just an extra step that get old. Just saying.

I’ve bought both and think they’re both pretty fun toys. I’d never use them if I wanted to be sure I’d filmed something. I hate their low light performance. When I say low light I just mean a rainy grey day.

Within the first 6 minutes you omitted some info which ended up being misleading...you have to pay extra for 64 gb of storage in the Insta 360 Go 2, the base model is also only 32 gb of storage. Also, you can put the DJI Front Touchscreen Module in a waterproof case so that you do have extra battery and extra storage while snow or water sports.
As far as image quality goes, Insta 360 Go 2 is quite good, but on the beach your skin looks pretty bad, there’s some aggressive sharpening when you’re in the sun (looks to be struggling with HDR scenes), your skin looks a lot more natural (and better) with the DJI Action 2.
I love the design on the new DJI. Ill use the camera module in my DSLR hot shoe to get me the odd stabalised wide clips. The camera will act as a grip - plus the client will think im using my DSLR for those clips and not a action camera 😃
You might need an extender so that your DSLR camera lens isn't in the shot. That's a great use case!
Man would it be great to have a go 2 with 4k? maybe next year. . .I'm choosing neither, i'm just keeping my goPrp 9 till then.
I chose the go2 and I’m very happy with it. I use my Go 2 for fpv shots while I vlog. It’s a neat perspective using the clips and mounts they provide. DJI just kind of missed the boat in my opinion
if they came out with a Go 3 with 4K, it would be no contest

I see more how this is great for FPV. The GO 2 is also great but its better on tiny whoops the action 2 cam on a 3 inch fpv quadcopter and up would look and perform nice.

Dji action with extra mod is similar in size to a gopro... So just keep or buy a gopro, for me insta go 2 all day, every day (just wish I had the 64 gb one though)
no, for my fpv drone Action 2 all the way, go2 is a shitty camera, lots of jelly footage , 2.5k it s not sufficient , gopros are super heavy , sive gopro 5 its all the same design, all the same things , only gopro i buy is the Session 5 , all others are shitty cameras , this action 2 is a great camera for someone who fly.
I am looking for my first action cam, mainly for use whilst running. Will they both stay secure with the magnetic lanyard under a running top? Or better cap or head mounted?

I’d go with the Insta360 Go 2 64Gb due to price, weight, form factor and lens cover. I’d be using it for FPV flying and for rear view from bicycle mounted on seat post. I use a Hero7 for the front cam mounted under a Garmin GPS mount.
I got 4. Easy to tell when the shot is on ur skateboard and ur brown pants and u on the shot. Hard to guess tho when u do the nature shot and sky and the grass stuff like that
i already have the osmo action 1. I think I'm going to keep that for when i need 4k footage and long takes and buy the insta 360 go2 64gb in the black Friday sale for general day to day and quick stuff
I like the richer colors coming from the Action 2.
For surfing or any water usage, it doesn't matter if the Go 2 has more memory because you can only get max 20 mins of battery so the Action 2 could be even better. Plus the Go 2 is very sissy in water, small waves can ruin it, it happened to me. The A2 is as pressure resistant as a gopro (10m). Plus if you want to go hardcore you can buy the water case and unlimit the battery and storage constraints, which you can't on the Go 2.
Action 2 is the one for water enthusiasts for sure.
Great comparison. I think the Go 2 is the winner for me. Being able to change a scratched lens is important, as well as more memory.
got the insta360 GO 2. connection to Smartphone and file transfer was a disaster. and sometimes the insta360 GO 2 crashed, where you could do nothing. but searching on Internet how to hard reset it to make it work again. now I got the action 2. connection to phone, easy. no problem. is bigger which is an issue. would love the insta360 GO 2 without connection issues and those stupid crashing issues. but we'll will test now the action 2. to bad the camera have no magnet build in, instead of the display, as you can attach display anyway

So basically: the only reason you should choose the Action2 is if you want 4K and a screen. Otherwise, go for the Go2. Besides, the 4K doesn't even make that much of a difference.

@@rjsvids gopro 8 has the form factor of an action camera. The Action 2 doesn't. It doesnt share the same rugid design and i for one would be hesitant to put it to use in most action sports. I think the image quality is fine on the Action 2 but the basic modules dont come across as acrion ready. It would require an additional cage of some sort and since it doesnt come with a protective lens cover I would find it risky to use in challenging action environments. The mods aren't water proof either so it would require another cage for those who are out on the water and want to use it
GoPro is still the best option for watersport. The only downside is it’s size. If the Action2 had bigger storage and a better locking system (I don’t trust that magnet in surf) it would be the clear winner.
For action sports, I think you're right that it's still GoPro. Definitely the most robust and easy to secure. I would never trust the Action 2's magnetic mount to go surfing or wake surfing. The GO 2 has a GoPro style wrap around mount that feels really secure, but I still grab my GoPro to hit the waves just because it feels the most secure👍
