This song always makes me think of my buddy Tom. Lost him to an addiction. He was one of the brightest stars in my life. Someone who could just change the entire mood of everyone in a room with his presence. He had this way of making you feel like you were the most important person in the world when he talked to you. I've never met anyone else like him. The line, "Your selfishness has robbed you, of the man you could've been. I wouldn't change a thing about you, I love you dearly, my friend" gets me every. single. time. I don't think I've ever listened to this song with dry eyes at the end. Love you Tom.
I feel ya brother. I lost my best friend to suicide. No one saw it coming, absolute shock. We were both huge coheed fans and discussed the amory wars all the time. Hard to listen to certain songs these days. R.I.P to your buddy Tom. May our friends shine bright amongst the keywork.
Both of these albums broke me. The nail in coffin was when the Allmother was questioning if his decisions were an act of love. To willingly throw himself into heavens fence again as a gamble to see her one more time, knowing full well it will destroy him.
"You fought to withdraw from a location with has incited severe and unquantifiable pain. And nearly terminated the mission, terminated your life. Yet you desire to set a course back to it. I am not equipped to comprehend human rationale. Sirius.....Is this what love is?" "yes"
Some years ago I was reading online some tidbits of the limited edition coffee book. Dude, I can't listen to the Afterman albums the same way after finding the story behind them. I know its a fictional story but I got so sad after reading what the stories mean...I mean, your wife, all you had to do was love her. Fuuuuuuu :( Seriously Claudio should be writing TV dramas or movies (heart wrencher)
Claudio Sanchez could very well be the most talented song writer alive right now. His lyrics are pure magic and unique to him. This song gets over shadowed by all their mainstream hits but is just as genius if not more.
I showed my mom this video and she cried because it reminded her of my dad who killed himself seven years ago. I played the suffering by Coheed and Cambria at his funeral...I miss you daddy, I'll see you in my dreams...
Sverebom...i just think any death, any way it takes so much away, especially from thier husband or wife, let alone everyone that has ever been touched by that life that has left us behind... thank you again sverebom
My heart breaks every time. For me, The Afterman is grandpa, and she is grandma. We lost her on 10/25/12, and him on 6/23/15. We actually had lost him, mostly, years before, due to Alzheimer's. This song appeared shortly before grandma's death, and it took on its own meaning for me. In the days before she died, I randomly, accidentally, turned on the TV with grandpa sitting next to me. Moments away, Felix Baumgartner was about to freefall to Earth from the edge of the atmosphere. It was a total accident we saw it at all. My grandpa and I watched it together, and he kept saying, "he's crazy", and I kept thinking, "you woulda done it too if you had the chance", and I'm sure he would have. He was our Afterman. He was a WWII hero, absolutely fearless, and an inspiration until the day I die.
'Your selfishness has robbed you of the man you could have been. I wouldn't change a thing about you. I love you dearly, my friend.' That's it that's it up *cries*
She gave her heart to a falling star When news filtered through of his tragedy all the walls went up Around a world she declines As the tears from her eyes fall No one understands, and no one will All she has lost If he's not here, then where? If he's not here, then where? If he's not here then where? If he's not here then where? When she found it there in the cold, blue glare The words distressed and unfamiliar where the feelings seared An emptiness had hung, and in her chest, she clenched Reality settled as the memories raced while on the screen he lived She teared; "Your selfishness has robbed you of the man you could've been I wouldn't change a thing about you I love you dearly, my friend" If he's not here then where? If he's not here then where? My love, Been searching for my afterman If he's not here then where? If he's not here then where? My love, Been searching for my afterman
I swear these two albums escape so many people and I don't see how, they're truly gems that I couldn't be happier knowing exist. Sirius and his story... simply stunning.
I remember watching and listening to this when it first came out and I had a very mild opinion of it...then a couple of years later after reading the story, going through some life here and there.....and then re-listening to it...this hits hard.
This song makes me cry every single time I listen.2 years ago I woke up to news that my best friend of almost 20 years was killed. This...this is so on point.
I'm feeling this song today. Rest in " puhtayto ", Chris G. Chambers (inside joke between him and I). I'm so sad you decided to leave but happy you're reunited with our son and your dad.. A reason, season, or lifetime. I'm glad we met in the strange time in our lives.
I have listened to Coheed the last 20 years and I think the Ascension album and storyline is SOOOO fucking good, I think it really gets overlooked a lot by fans
I was driving home when I saw one of my childhood friends leave for the last time in a helicopter, I was listening to this, and it still breaks me all these years later. Tristan Clark was an inspiration x RIP
I've never teared up listening to this song and I love it alot. And I am familiar with the afterman comic series. But watching the video accompanying the song got me. So well done.
freakin agreed im running for vice president in my school and i wanted this inst in my speech background but i just had to compromise with the lyrics too
Their best video, it has a great photography really well done and blended to what they want to express, especially at the end of the song when the man left her.
Cloud, thank you, my brother. Someday soon we' can meet again maybe. We can exchange father stories. I love you brother. I'm glad you, Chon and Atlas are really embracing that joy. Now I am too and you are a part of my journey. God bless! 😊
And nobody knew that Sirius was still alive, in the Keywork, all by himself. Nor that he would return a year and a half later, alive and well, feeling like a week had passed by.
the sweetest song for loves who need to move on after the death of a spouse. so much hope and what they dream of every night. every day, 22 veterans commit suicide. this video is comforting to remember those last moments.
+Baby Bloq That's one interpretation, but most people's take on the video is that Sirius Amory actually did survive, and all of this really happened. Meri finds him again in the wreckage, and they celebrate how even though the ship exploded, he survived. At the end though, he knows he's doomed to repeat this over and over again because of his addiction to his studies, so, acquiescently, he leaves her again.
no he rediscusses what he missed in the car when he returns and finds out she remarried and is 3 months pregnant and when the news drops he gets so distracted that he runs the car off the road and hes the only survivor. thats what happened after this, he really wasnt there in this vid but he survived and disappeared for 3 yearsish
this song is one of the best off of afterman album, it fits in so well as you're reading Cyrus' journey to the Keywork. Gods, I hope he finds Meri. TWD level cliffhanger forreal. @coheedandcambria Claudio! please!! make a behind the concept videos for Descension!
I basically grew up listening to coheed. I stopped listening for a long time when NWFT came out. Wasn't really a fan of that album or Black Rainbow. But then this album came out and I felt like a kid again. This is pure coheed.
All albums starting from NWFT are so-so. There are songs that are captivating and there that are confusing as well. For me, Second stage, Silent Earth, and Star IV are the best.
We live in an age where Taylor Swift can fart into a microphone and the video gets 1 billion views...meanwhile great musicians go under the radar it seems.
I think it's because when searching for Afterman on youtube, this isn't (or, wasn't for me) the first video to come up. Plus lots of people will choose 'lyric videos.'

God Bless You Tom As Well
Tom sounds like an amazing dude. May Tom live on through your memories and stories.

@@3ShotTGK you bet your A-- that's what love is. If love ISN'T that, then love isn't a thing.
@@aaronmoore6275 that's actually a quote from the album

Yes. Thank you for saying that. I strongly agree.
Sung Yul Taylor This is my favorite song from the album. And probably the greatest song lyrically.
You can say the same about Tom Delonge as well.
If only you'd have known then how much better he's gotten since
Completely agree 💯👍
I showed my mom this video and she cried because it reminded her of my dad who killed himself seven years ago. I played the suffering by Coheed and Cambria at his funeral...I miss you daddy, I'll see you in my dreams...

The Afterman is probably the saddest and most beautiful story ever.

Gravity's Union always gets me.
Claudio's hair is so glorious and majestic.
Very peaceful...it just shows how versatile they are.
I've never heard anything more beautiful
this song is so lovely. and the video is so beautiful and heartbreaking.
Probably the most beautiful C&C video produced to date.

Then you realize how fucking talented all of coheed and Cambria is
Thank you guys
did they do video of the year back then? cause this was it
I love Coheed's softer songs, this is so sweet!
I need an instrumental. I'd never stop painting.
freakin agreed im running for vice president in my school and i wanted this inst in my speech background but i just had to compromise with the lyrics too

When Coheed sounds mainstream, they still sound good to me.

I love that detail; You don't show the rocket explode, just it's aftermath. The reaction is what matters most.
Excellent directing of this vid.
what a beautiful video, and obviously a great tune
Beautiful video and song. Great job Coheed
Beautiful song and video.
He isnt really there. heartbreaking.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that the fucking beat drops 2 minutes into the song... SO much energy!!!!!

Seriously, this needs more views!
Great music, great lyrics, great band in the list of best rock bands ever. 👍💖
Beautiful
I enjoyed that very much.
Great video.
Simply beautiful! :D
It really is. So underrated.
How does this only have 12k views? Is it a time thing? The Running Free has almost 4 million
+The8BitSlug it's blocked in a lot of countries due to piracy laws, for example germany... still listening to it though
+The8BitSlug This was a re-upload. Deleted off of the vevo channel I believe.
Oh that makes sense. I should pay more attention haha. I thought this was THE video
I'm pissed off that this doesn't have more views
Be happy that you have a greater taste in music than those who didn't hear this song.

Sounds like a good idea for a mod lol
For me this music is very relaxing I like this.
I like the drums in this one.
You’re selfishness has robbed you of the man you could have been I wouldn’t change a thing about you I love you dearly.. my friend.
She gave her heart to a falling star
When news filtered through of his tragedy
All the walls went up
Around a world she declines
As the tears from her eyes fall
No one understands, and no one will
All she has lost
If he's not here, then where?
If he's not here, then where?
If he's not here, then where?
If he's not here, then where?
When she found it there in the cold, blue glare
The words distressed and unfamiliar
Where the feelings seared
An emptiness had hung, and in her chest, she clenched
Reality settled as the memories raced
While on the screen he lived
She teared, Your selfishness has robbed you
Of the man you could've been
I wouldn't change a thing about you
I love you dearly, my friend
If he's not here then where?
If he's not here then where?
My love, Been searching for my afterman
If he's not here then where?
If he's not here then where?
My love, been searching for my afterman

Primeiro Brasileiro a comentar em 2021? Top som está na minha playlist 👌
2024, and still here
i want that font that was used in the beginning
I just realized the album and the song is called the afterman and not aftermath
I just realized the Crowing is not the Crowning
lol dude same...
same...wtf.
Kok sakit banget ya 😿😿
It's been years and years and I still can't find that woman's name in the vid.
not the suffering ( that would have weird ) it was The crowing by Coheed and Cambria
if you dont like this, but like other coheed songs you don't understand dynamics.
🥺
Literally howls moving castle
Can't sleep so I came here
I thought this was called The AfterMATH like what happens after the Amory Wars
Mr Wednesday Claudio and his never ending play-on-words. The Afterman is a title for Sirius, from Mari's perpective. She is waiting for him to return, but he is presumed dead several months into his mission into the keywork... Second part meaning, I think she was waiting for Sirius to return to the man he used to be before the work took over him. Selfishness had changed him, but she still loved and missed him after his death was announced. It destroyed her, and she grieved a long time, searching for her afterman.
This is a prequel
