- My name is Brycen Smith, I have spent my adult life building my career as a professional hotrod builder, but I have a passion for old ford trucks and, more specifically, 1967 - 1972 "Bump-side" Fords. This truck is my second personal bump-side build, and it is the product of years of professional knowledge and skill but built after hours and in my home garage. "Penny" is a 1967 F250 that I purchased from Doug's four-wheelers in Pella, Iowa. I named the truck after finding a 1967 penny under the truck's seat as I proceeded to tear it down for the rebuild. I converted the truck from 2-wheel drive to 4-wheel drive and proceeded to spend 22 months rebuilding the truck and making it into what it is now. The chassis is its original 1967 F250 2wd frame rails with 1973 F250 4x4 cross members and suspension mounted to it.
I had the chassis fully sandblasted, then painted with POR-15 rust preventative and topcoat paint and completely rebuilt with all new suspension parts, axles, and hardware. It has a completely rebuilt NP205 transfer case and freshened NP435 transmission and a 352FE engine. I did fix some rust in the cab; it got cab mounts, floor pans, and cab corners. I proceeded to repaint the firewall, bottom of the floor, and Interior. I added a new right-side inner fender and core support paired with the original left-side inner fender and had them powder coated. I wired the truck with American Auto Wire 67-72 Ford truck harness, installed Vintage Air sure fit for '67 Ford pickup trucks, Dakota Digital VHX gauges for 67-72 Ford pickup trucks. It has electric power steering, Wilwood master cylinder, with all new brake lines and brakes to stop the fully rebuilt Dana 44 front and Dana 60 axles. The engine is the 352FE in the truck when I bought it, along with the NP435 transmission and Dana 60 rear axle. The NP205 transfer case and Dana 44 front axle are from the 1973 donor chassis. Peny has 3:73 gears, new limited-slip differentials, and rides on 255/85/16 Toyo Open Country M/T tires with powder coated Ford 16x7 steelies. The truck has a full stainless steel exhaust custom with Borla mufflers that I built myself. Everything on the truck was gone through, every nut and bolt removed and either replaced or freshened up.
The seat cover is from SMS Auto Fabrics to replace the original pattern that was in the truck. The carpet is from LMC, as well as the dash pad and other various interior parts. I've used LMC on past builds and will continue to use them in the future. I got the core support, passenger side inner fender, front-end hardware for the fenders, and sheet metal from LMC. I decided to swap the truck to 4-wheel drive because I wanted a "highboy" Ford when I was looking for a truck, but when I found Penny, I loved the truck and the way it looked so much that I decided it was the one I wanted to buy, and I would make it 4x4 myself. The patina on the truck is the original paint for the truck, and it used to belong to the Iowa Realty Company. On the bed above the body line, it says the "Iowa Realty Co. Inc." and on the door, it says the "Farm & Ranch Department" and "Des Moines." It has some local history to where I live, which was part of what made me fall in love with the patina of the truck. Finding a solid truck in Iowa with all the body panels still matching without having significant rot through a lot of the panels was a rare thing, so I wanted to bring it back to roadworthy condition. My main goal with the truck was to keep the original flare to maintain that originality aspect while making it have some creature comforts and making it into a 4-wheel drive truck. Everything but the exterior paint job has been redone, refinished, or reworked.
Driving Penny is a unique experience for a couple of reasons. Because of the patina, I think the truck is more relatable and approachable for people. I get lots of waves and people that compliment it. But then, when I pop the hood and open the doors, people are speechless. Penny truly is one of a kind.

Absolutely beautiful, I wouldn’t change a thing!
Nicely done by a professional! My one gripe is I don't like the (patina) personally! Great respect! Thanks for bringing the old girl back to work! Bless you for your hard work!
Nice to see trucks done right !!!
Love me some Bumpside!
Now that's is a Ford Truck . Really nice truck
Incredible job on your classic F-250. I had purchased my grandfather’s 67 F-250 Camper Special, Custom Cab with 352/4 speed. It was the best truck that I have ever owned. Mostly highway miles as my grandparents enjoyed fishing and camping and it was very well maintained.
Thanks! These old fords are the best
Looks great, especially that blue with the patina
Truck is absolutely gorgeous. Really nicely done. 👍
Great job . Truck looks amazing. Love the old ones. so much more personality .
That truck is absolutely perfect. Well done my friend
Beautiful Truck
A truck that looks like a real truck.older fords were the best.
Yes Sir! I agree!
Pretty Penny is her Name! She's a beautiful HighBoy! Man that's the truck I dream of right there!
Great job on the truck. Not over restored, thats the ticket. all the best and greetings from the UK.
Absolutely love your truck one of my favorite years
Nice truck Sir & also the story telling us about it.
No problem, its my pleasure to share it!
WOW! Just WOW!!!!
I own a 77 F250 Highboy with a 351m and no matter how cold its outside, it starts right up and is ready to plow.
My favorite series f250. I have a 72 f250 factory high boy. Two tone green XLT ranger with factory AC. 4 speed power breaks. I put a 69 429 engine mated to the original transmission. I added power steering from a 78 f350 along with the front Dana 60 with disk breaks. The trucks of this vintage Ford’s are tough as nails
You did a spectacular job on it.
Very tasteful & smartly done. 👍
Thank you!
Ya that's a sweet little pickup truck !
It's perfect!
Wow...
4 of us had high boy trucks in high school. My high school had a smoking room and open campus. Cheated on finals and got my diploma!!
That truck is perfect
just picked up a 1968 F 250 camper special 2300 miles on new engine new shocks brakes tires were picking up a 1976 Dreamer cab over camper that's in great shape with all the original owners manual and everything the original had done to it maintenance etc. will be putting in A/C also my daughter wants to take it to Australia along with her Aussie pup for a couple of years and just Boondock around down under
Good job I have a67 69 71 72 f250 4x4 love those bump sides.
Since I was a kid and these trucks were new I loved the bump sides.
Bumps are the best classic for truck to me!
Absolutely gorgeous! This truck looks great from every angle.
Thank you!
outstanding. Have had a few bumps and the forward sloping front end, full length 'bump' along the side and the toughness of these is why I love them. appreciate your work and certainly motivates me to build one more factory style instead of dropping a godzilla or build a 427FE in it and lay it on the frames as I would tend to do. of course nothing wrong with those builds but something about Penny is special and I think its the fact that its a factory style. new trend coming on! lol. thx for all the details.
Perfect package.... you actually kept it original ... there are lots of lazy people out here would have tossed that bullet proof drive train .good job
I am still blown away at how much this truck went for on bring a trailer. sure is a nice bump!
Well, how much?

Nice truck! Love 67’s…
Nice. Love my daily 79, 300, 4x4, manual with 33in BFGs. AL rad, E fan, Saginaw steering, all LED.
Glad I found this, there’s a same year, make, model and engine size here in OK that I’ve got my eye on right now. I love the 4x4 upgrade nice truck and good job!
Very nice. Youve preserved a fine piece of history .
Thank you!
Very nice. I had a '67 2wd in the '80's I should have kept, but you can't keep everything. I'm looking at a '70 hiboy now for use on my property and towing that my Subaru just can't do.
Love the “freshing up” of Penny. Fantastic job!
Appreciate it!
Your truck is a work of art man , I totally agree man , 67-72 Bumpside are the best looking classic truck ever , the ones that most got featured in movies as well , congratulations from South Australia 🇦🇺
Cool you were able to apply your knowledge to this project and now display the results of your efforts. Nice job. I have seen the truck and talked to you at a show sometime back. Was impressed then even more so now.
I tip my hat to you sir.
Thanks for the compliments and for checking out the truck
Esta perrona.truck nice
Bad ass truck dude. I have a 78 f250 I'm trying to get going. I need an engine 😩 so I can start putting it back together. Originally it had a 400 in it but I'm thinking of a 460 swap.
That’s a nice truck would not change one thing
Thanks! Me either!
Cool stuff man!!! I used to have a 1967 Mercury. 3 on the tree, 390. It was a beast.
Nice!
Nice job…very nice job!
Great build my friend! That's a man's pickup rite there, NO sawed off short box & an F250. The up graded features seem nice & very good ideas. Thank U for sharing w/ us all.
Bad ass truck, with all the right stuff, awesome job
Really nice truck. Great job. I hope you get many years of enjoyment with it.
That is one very nice truck.👍🏻
I appreciate that!
This truck is phenomenal. Great job!
Beautiful Truck. Saving the patina & treating the underside body for longevity with tinted bed liner was a huge improvement. Congratulations on the successful auction. I am in the process of competing a mostly mechanical restoration of a 1969 Camper Special, that will retain its patina paint. Very impressed with what you've done.
When I was a kid the fire department in my town used to have one as a field rig
I love the truck. You’ve done a great job.
Thank you!
Really nice job on the truck. 🤘 Oh, give your dad his socks back! 😊
very nice i have a 1960 f103 4x4 i dropped 360fe in all orginal with 3:89 rears and 3:91 up front T98A tranny 3yr project again yours is a real beauty
Awesome build bud. I wish you two a long and loving relationship. She's a real looker!....I wouldn't change a thing.
Joseph @bumpsidetreasures is an awesome guy.
great looking '67.
What a great job on this truck! My '70 F250 4X4 has the "armstrong" steering so that electric power steering looks very interesting!
You wouldn't regret it for a second if you installed one
@@prddesign who made the power steering unit you used?
@Burnewiin www.steermancycle.com
Motor looks beautiful.
Thank you!
Brycen, what a beautiful truck you have created out of a Ho-Hum 4x2 F250. I have always loved the Ford F-250 / F350 High Boy 4x4 chassis....Watching your video blog on this beauty brought tears to my eyes....I guess If it were me restoring this beauty, I would have put a new Harbour Blue paint job on her....and replaced the white bumpers with chrome.....But, I do respect your wanting to keep the original patina for the historical content on the vehicle....
What can I say...the truck is a show-stopper...I suspect if you were ever to sell Penny, she'd go for a "pretty Penny" LoL....
Thank you! I couldn't bring myself to paint it. All of the character would be lost and it would just be another repainted old truck, but maybe on the next one. A patina that rough and especially that solid is rare and the 54 years it took to become that.
great job nice truck
Thank you!
Looks great! Awesome job man!
Triple awesome, great job!!
Thanks!
Looks great! 👍
Super job
Great esthetic with upgrades
Nice! I had a 68 F250 Highboy myself, many years ago. Bought it from a neighbor and used it on the farm, pulling grain to town, cutting firewood and the like. Miss that old truck. Good Job Young Man! If you ever want to sell it, I'm interested 👍.
Very nice! I had a 72 F250 sport custom camper special 2wd 360 auto factory Air ps pb 354 Dana. One that should have never gotten away. These are good tough trucks.
Very nice!!
penny is a beauty
I love this truck. I am going to do the same thing someday.
Beautiful truck Bryson
Great build
All the right touches
Been a truck guy my whole life
Ford Chevy Dodge n minis but mostly Fords
Enjoyed listening and watching
Seen your truck on multiple FB pages. What a beautiful truck! Congrats on the sale as well btw. Great video!
She’s a sweet pickup for sure, great call on the 255/85’s on 16” steel wheels, I can’t stand this trend toward 20” rims and 14” wide rubber band tires on these old 4wd pickups. The only things I’d do differently is I’d forgo the power steering in favor of putting an overdrive transmission, probably an NV4500 but maybe a T-56 if budget allowed. The nice thing about the divorced T-case on Hi-boy’s is you can swap to almost any overdrive trans you want with just an advance adapters bellhousing and a modified stub-shaft to go between the trans and T-case.
Cool as hell!! Great work with the truck. I’m not a patina fan. But, this is a bad ass truck.
Me encanta está troca 👏
I really love your truck i have a 1994 f250 4x4 that i wish i could re do but i cant aford it i live on disabil8ty but i can dream.
I had a F250 Camper Special back in the 70s and 80s mainly for building my house. Not quite sure of the year mine had a 360 with automatic in it. Lots of low end not much top end. Had scale slips showing I hauled over 2 tons of gravel in it a couple of times which I hauled for more than 25 miles, it was a tank.
Love it!!
Thanks!
Dang that is nice
I love that thing
I've had 3 bumpsides in my day and they were all excellent,,, was hoping you would go into detail on the 352, all you said about it was that you kept it ...
Thanks, there's not much to tell on the 352. It's bone stock, just fresh.
BAD ASS...
this is cool
My childhood days on camping trips and fishing, my dad owned a 65 Ford camper special and a 73 Ford. I would love to have a old school "dependable" old Ford 4x4 restored as a daily driver over the crap made now days. No heated steering wheel? A pair of gloves given from someone from Christmas does the trick. You know not to drive like an idiot, air bags not required! But.....Seat belts are cool!
Nice,,, I'm building a 66 ford pickup now,,, built a 45 dodge pickup last year,, have 8 classic cars to restore but I keep running up on trucks now and the cars must wait. My 66 is also 352 38,000 miles truck,
Nice, glad you're keepin them on the road
55 years running. can your truck do this lol. man that gauge cluster is cool. its to cool boss,,,
Thank you!
You need to come and do the review on my '71
I appreciate the gesture!
With those tires the lbs per sq in is probably double the big extra wide tires are , plus better mileage and traction on snow an ice !!
I had a 75 high boy and it had power steering it was a hydraulic ram on the front steering
Thats what this did have but I wanted better
Would be very interested to find out how much the truck would fetch on Bring A Trailer. Easily worth 60k + and if a bidding war ensued the sky would be the limit . Worth every penny
You're in luck! And exactly what you described is what happened! bringatrailer.com/listing/1967-ford-f-250-14/
:) Dashing pickup truck ..
THANK YOU ,THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!! for keeping her all Ford!!! I love the way you did the 4 wheel change keeping its originality ! I have a 1970 F 250 that's my baby it's 2 wheel drive with a little 429ci 😁 w/ NP435 ( bulletproof indeed) that i built in the late 80's and runs today ( I wanted to do a four-wheel drive but I did not want to change the chassis all chassis that I found are 73 and newer i dont lke the way they look different chassis thank you for doing what I wanted to do which I was told it would not work YOU made a awesome truck!!! love are donkey mirrors ( I need the same hardware) it all there! They just don't come off. hahaha thanks again
I grew up on the Gulf Coast of Texas my family are all fishermen commercial my grandpa had a 72 Ford regular cab four-wheel drive truck I learned to drive in it but the mother f***** always smell like fish LOL
I think that your cab lights on your pickup maybe original. My brother in law’s 67 F250 camper special he ordered with a 352 with an automatic had 3 cab lights that looked similar.
67 on back could have 3 or 5 cab lights if it was over a certain width, and a overhead camper put it at that width.
68 on had to have 5 cab lights. He lived in El Paso so he also had add on AC.
Why do you call it Penny?
On the farm we call one Bud, because that was the former owner’s name.
Hello from north east Montana.
10 miles from the Canadian border.
While they are close to original looks they are not. They are an aftermarket brand and not FoMoCo.
Used to stop at Doug's every time we'd visit the ex wife's family in Pella.
What size tires? love it!!!
255/85/16s thanks
Absolutely Beautiful. I love that pizza cutter look. What's the wheels and tires you have on it?
Thanks! Only way to do it on a classic truck! They are 255/85/16 Toyo Open Country M/Ts on 16x7 ford steelies. The tires measure about 33.5"x10"
That's a great truck. Never repaint it.
i picked up a 70 high boy with dana 60/80 lockers rust free clean body tool box on side ranger with extra parts with no engine for 250 bucks then traded a junk car i got for free for a 390. then i picked up for free a 70 class c ford motor home with a c-6 that slips with a 428 in it but the interior is real cool it has roses in the interior trim tilt wheel full gauge cluster with tach wiper delay cruise control ac power steering and power breaks the cab is mint on it the front clip is perfect still has good factory paint on it . the cab would be perfect for a sleeper all ready cut out
Nice truck, where do you get your socks?
What did you use to preserve the paint/rust?
