    It's quite an obstacle course looking for apartments in Phnom Penh. I also recently had a budget of $200/month. Saw many apartments with agents and unfortunately they don't seem to listen to your needs. I'd come to some places thinking it's about $200 but then he would say, oh this ones $350. I'm not sure which apartment this guy ended up taking but it's a matter of perseverance too. I managed to find myself a $180/month apartment, new building, one bedroom, 6th floor with elevator in Toul kork (lol not a golden elevator 😂). The kitchen is in the balcony but all brand new. No management fee, 0.25¢ kilowatt electric, free water, free wifi and garbage collection. Be careful of these management fee places. I can see the guys budget was $200/month but the first two, he will actually be paying about $300+ every month. Stick to your guns with your budget price and you will eventually find. Unfortunately agents just want their commissions and won't exactly swing your way but try to get you a more expensive apartment. Also a very important factor when you're apartment hunting, make sure the electricity meter is around or inside your apartment where you can view it, if all the apartments meters are down stairs where the owners live, they could be cheating you with your monthly price. I take a picture of the meter every month just in case.
    Those people saying they agreed to the first place they saw, well, thats ok but doesnt hurt to shop around. Photos on fb groups can be deceiving too as it most probably wont look the same when youre actually there.
    It's a good idea also if your bedroom has its own door to get into because an open studio apartment room you can hear corridor noise, had this problem in a place i lived and you'd suddenly wake up at 2am with corridor chatter from other tenants coming back from their outing.
    So important questions to ask:
    - water price
    - electric price
    - any other fees
    - is 6 months ok? Is 12 months ok? I always sign a 6 month contract just in case. Touch wood, my current apartment is all good and landlord is honest.
    Bit of a long rant but yeah, hope all went well😊

      Good advice. It's definitely possible to find something if you put the time in. I am at a higher budget, and I found something $120 under the market. I pay $480 for a place that's supposed to be $650

    I ended up taking the first place we looked at. I'm still here, but moving to Vietnam soon. Apartment and service were very good, neighbors were nice, supermarket was only a 6-7 minute walk away. Ordering out for meals was a lot more expensive than Riverside though.

    I am an American retired early in Cebu, Philippines with a small pension and rapidly dwindling savings. I am presently taking a TEFL course. I have realized that it is extremely difficult to get a job here as a foreigner if you are not married to a Filipina, and wages are low, much lower than Cambodia. My girlfriend does not want to marry until she finishes school. So, my options are to try to remain here and do online English teaching, or, Cambodia looks like a better option for work. I have four years until I can draw social security at 62, then I will be all set with that and my pension. If I decide to move to Cambodia, I will definitely use your services. The apartments you showed are a better deal than Cebu, overall, although I might wonder what the power bill is. Thanks for making this video, it was very informative.

      I can help you get a job as well. I have a large network. Vietnam pays better for a teacher, but Cambodia has other advantages. Feel free to reach me on any of the contact information in the description, and we can work out a plan.

      @rebornabroad  9 месяцев назад +1

      Definitely, you do not need to spend 900 to get something nice. Over 500 and most places start being pretty nice. I see some of the stuff they charge huge amounts for, like even several thousand, and honestly, aside from a few projects, I am not crazy impressed
