KORG also used to provide the products to various artists. It would be a publicity stunt, but without the trust between the artist and the manufacturer, the artist would not have used the product even if the manufacturer had asked them to. I think this machine had immeasurable potential at the time.
Interesting that most of these sounds are in the X2/X3 as well in same quality. Some of them though in the actual General Midi bank, which this 01/W not yet had. So, the basic wave-set seems to be very similar.
I think that there were a lot of Korg's AI sound sources that were used all the way from M1 in terms of waveforms. 01/W was a milestone in the M1 series, and X3/2 was a step forward by reducing the sampling rate to 32 kHz to save memory and other costs, and by changing the keyboard from Yamaha's FS keyboard to a FATAR keyboard. I think that X3/2 is an enhancement of the M1 series while reducing costs. On a personal note, my first synth was the X3, so I have a deep attachment to it. Also, I have a deep attachment to these two models, as 01/W was the model that got me started in synthesizer repair. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
Before lounge Korg hinted the 01/W with a darkened image of the oval hole on one side. And I was hooked. The M1 looks cool too, but like an older and bolder design than the 01/W.
Hi - have the Korg 01/W Pro - but my display is almost dimmed. I bought a backpanel some years ago, that a repairman installed, but its not as clear and light as this in this video. Is it possible to replace the display with a better display like this somehow - and which to choose? Thx in advance.
The one I replaced is an 8-bit 8080-bus LCD with LED backlighting, and I always get it from eBay, from a company called BuyDisplay. However, even if you buy this display, you cannot replace it as-is; you will need to transplant the display harness, remove the original inorganic EL inverter circuit, match the contrast adjustment voltage and change the constant value of the current limiting resistor for the backlight, and many other things.
I have recently been replacing them with LED backlit ones, since a Chinese LCD shop has been supplying good, stable ones at a reasonable price.NoNoInorganicInorganic EInorganic EL paInorganic EL panelInorganic EL panels are not compatible withInorganic EL panels can be replaced with 1Inorganic EL panels last 10 years after replacement.Inorganic EL panels don't last 10 years after replacement.Inorganic EL panels don't last 10 years when replaced.Inorganic EL panels don't last 10 years after replacement.LongWe want them to last for a long time, so we are replacing them with LWe want them to last for a long time, so we have been using LED paWe want them to last a long time, so LED ba panelWe want them to last longer, so we've been using LED backlit panels. We want them to last longer, so LED backlit panelsWe want them to last longer, so we've been using LED backlit panels. We want them to last longer, so we replaced them with LED backlit panels. We want them to last longer, so we are replacing them with LED backlit panels. @@fmori_synth I actually did the same thing with mine - You'd put new LED backlight in and it would be gone in like 2 years. I think I replaced mine twice. I am hoping that the LED one will last longer, and so far it's lasted me 2 years and it looks just as good as the day I put it in. Ironically, my main keyboard (Kronos) died on me this year so I am relegated to using the 01/WFD for everything this spring, so I am very glad I made the upgrades I did to it! I also replaced the Floppy Disk Drive and added the Piano PCM card to it.
hello friend I have my 01/w with a dim display, I'm going to try changing the backlight to see if I can solve the display problem. If this doesn't work I will go for a new display for my keyboard. Could you tell me the address, link, where I can buy a display similar to the one you used. thanks@@fmori_synth
There is a sense that how we treat instruments is changing regardless of the times. It is not about which equipment is bad, but about which equipment you have come to like and whether you enjoy playing that equipment, and I think that is where the good sound comes from.
Total Kit have lots of The Neptunes old drums, I'm a Slave 4 U conga in this, Southern Hospitality too
Great work!! Always nice to keep these beauties alive!
Thank you! But maintenance is a must for these girls because they have a high rate of sound loss symptoms if they are not maintained!
Long ago, the 01W/FD had been the main keyboard for my Genesis cover band

Still the best looking synth. And apart from a usable piano sound, it's still usefull today.
I would give the best look to the M1 or T3.

I agree. I don't really like it, even though it is popularly known as "M1Piano". Other than that, I have no complaints.

Are these the original sounds?
no. all sounds is factory presets.
右手は腱鞘炎なのでしょうか?ご苦労さまです。
昨年末小指と薬指を骨折して、そのうち小指は完全に骨断裂してしまって先日やっと補強の針金が抜けたばかりでまだまだリハビリ中です…
Modern synths lack that 'larger than life' sounds of the early 1990's synths. Nowadays the sounds are more produced and less 'turbo'.

Bank B please
I recorded it!
