  • My Traxxas TRX4m is getting closer to my perfect setup. Didn't have to cost an arm and a leg, largely thanks to parts from INJORA and Yeah Run!. My rig looks the part, goes well and is FUN (which is really the main thing).
    Join me for a look over the bolt-on parts, linked below, and see it run in rain, mud and trails :)
    Let's drive!

    I have feelings about Traxxas but I must say the TRX4m is a fantastic little truck. My son has one and when he lets me drive it, I'm blown away by its performance. Such a great little truck. It's definitely due for some weight down low, which I can see makes quite the difference. As always, your video was informative and entertaining. Thank you kindly and I hope the rain isn't keeping you couped up.

    Love Injora! I went with the brass wheels and their sticky crawler tires. It's very planted now, but needs the low gearing for sure. I'm not a fan of rotational weight, but it makes for a quick and cheap way to get the weight where it's really needed. Looking at the Furitek 118 Stinger brushless set up. 😮 Nice video, thanks!

      Furitek 118 is very nice. I have a bunch of videos and shorts of my trx4m with the 118 system. Only downside besides cost is you lose the waterproof capabilities of the stock brushes motor and esc. You can coat the lizard pro with conformal to make it waterproof but from my understanding outrunners aren’t really a fan of water/mud. But the new furitek Cedar in runner might be a fix.

    You can fix the speed thing easily with a Modellbau-Regler brushed ESC (hand made in Germany) that is smoother and 3S capable. Mine now goes slow and fast like a brushless, and brushed, remains water resistant.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Год назад

      Sounds epic. My more budget version is the purple 48T injora motor and the low-speed gears. Combined, on 2S, it's a good, useable band and it is satisfying to drive :) (I bet yours is amazing though - brushless is far from dead!!)

    Thanks for the thoughts on the M I’ve had mine for a bit I’ve been updating it & finally replaced the motor with Injora 55t motor & all my links are red anodized Treal including steering links. I have Treal metal beadlocks & Injora soft tires. I just installed the motor so I don’t have much feedback yet but I can definitely tell the difference but to be honest you need to replace the esc to truly get the modulation you need. Be careful tightening the wheel nuts the will break right off. I broke one & bought I kit to not only replace the part but also widen the stance all the way around. I have not spend any $ on Traxxas upgrades all aftermarket stuff. I’ll be going out tomorrow to get some testing aka Fun in. I live in Santa Barbara area & the weather is very nice currently so definitely getting out. Hope you get some blue skies soon. Looks good going through the water. By the way it was a pain to replace the motor I couldn’t believe you have to remove pretty everything to get to the 2 screws holding it. Definitely design flaw why not make it easier for people who are replacing the motor. Mine is identical to yours so makes it nice to see it out. Thanks

      The low range gears and purple injora motor are a great combo, yeah! Glad you're enjoying yours! With lots range gears I think the esc is Good Enough. But I understand why you'd want more from it.
      Really, if you wanted a better experience, replace the radio with your system of choice and fit a hobbywing 25A unit, that'd be pretty good. But I find the stock one is fine.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Год назад +2

      If I felt strongly about it at this point, I'd not be doing Traxxas videos. Gotta have a place for forgiveness for humans, and I guess at least understanding for businesses. Capitalism gonna capitalise. The got overzealous. They felt the push back. They corrected. Now they have to wait for goodwill to grow again. Takes time.
      After wet running with this kind of car, really I haven't done much beyond rinsing it with clear water, wiping it down and ensuring the tires are dry inside. It's not a high speed vehicle so I'm not worried about blowing out bearings (which I installed and forgot to mention). Low speed, low stress. One of the draws of crawlers :)

    I’m not sure what you’re talking about having to change gears. You just hold the button down and it switches between the gearing or is this just once you upgrade to the low gearing?

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  11 месяцев назад

      Well I'm not sure what you're taking about... Gearing in the TRX4m is a set ratio. There's no charging gear, you need to physically do it. Traxxas and after market both sell the options, there were 3 sets (fast, standard, slow) and later a fourth set was apparently released (I heard, but haven't checked this) that's between standard and slow. I've installed the slow ones and I'm very happy with this speed, it crawls great.
      I haven't made a video about it because it is a very simple swap. A few screws, then you replace the three gears with the new set.
      I wish you could hold a button to change gears but that is not something this model is capable of, unfortunately!

    Do you do some maintenance after running it in the water like shown in the video?

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 месяца назад +1

      Probably should have, but no.
      The foams want drying, if you have them in the tires and if the wheels have vents.
      Gearbox and diff want drying and lubrication. Uni and cv joints, ball ends, etc all should be dried and lightly lubed too, ideally.
      But no, I've done none of that. Use the car regularly, it's still good.
      A faster, bigger, heavier car will definitely need all this. You can get away with it on smaller, slower cars, as moving parts are under much less load.

      He's sold a bunch with different adapters. A couple of hundred of them over the 4 variants he offers. Looks like he's made about USD$5k revenue. I wonder what his cost of manufacture is. It's only a few minutes' work for each adapter, and it looks like he's building the Female side only from 3x single breadboard cable cuts, which you can buy in 100 packs for a few dollars. Don’t know if you’ve put ball bearings in it yet? It’s a huge Traxxas mistake to let it ride on bushings all round. Ie: FMS has put bearings where needed most on their 1:18 scale, and it works! .. so much better than TRX 4M with stock bushings..
    After battling one hour, mostly due to front axle.. I got mine on bearings, and you know what? It performs so incredibly much better even with stock gearing. But still, I’m not putting any more money into mine, bearings, lights and a second body, that’s it. It’s a bit meh.. it really needs a two speed gearbox, and you have to take the body off to switch lighting modes on the ESC.. 🤨
    I’m on the fence on a FCX 24, don’t really like any of the body choices that much this far, otherwise it looks really great.

      I did put bearings all through it, actually, yes. Forgot about that in this video! With the low range gearing I'm not sure I noticed a difference, and even less so now with the lower turn injora motor. But fms are on the right track with the mechanical side of things, for sure.

      @@RCTNT Ah, you did. Well, on the low (crawl) gearing I didn’t notice to much myself, just a tad when axle flexing and wide steering.
      But when I switched back to stock gearing (It was painstakingly slow with crawl gear..) it was almost like a new motor in it. It certainly crawls much more controlled on low speed, making most use of the ESC. And there’s some wheel speed now as well. So I kept the stock gearing for now.

      I'd have done the same with the stock motor. Low gearing is super slow. But she really wakes up with the faster motor. It's a good combo.

      @@RCTNT Interesting.. But that was kinda on my mind, only brushless. Then again, it would start adding the cost onwards to a new TRX 4M .. all in all it’s closing in towards a good 1:10th car😅

      Haha very true. That's where injora makes it make sense again. Faster brushed motor, low speed gears, good combo :)

      No, I made it myself. I'm not sure you can buy it. I explain how to make it and include a diagram though, in the original review video. I hope that's enough as I can't find anywhere that's selling such a thing, sorry!

    What's wrong with giving Traxxas your money?

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Год назад +1

      Nothing per se. They're a company, just like any other. Some folks are still stewing after Traxxas was a bit overly keen on handing out cease and desist notices and having small business' websites shut down without notice. I wanted to acknowledge that.
      The company overstepped, felt the push back from the hobby community, corrected, and now things are again reasonable. Trust and goodwill takes some time to return. But it will, eventually!

      No doubt. Though it is nice to see injora coming up with some new IP themselves these days. Boom Racing is another great example. I have no real opposition to your point though, you're quite right.

    this is the major reasons why I can't see dropping money on these little things.. they cost what a 10th scale does in every way... so my money has to go for the biggest bang... that and since I got my at6... I don't wanna run anything else 😂

      Mmmm idk kinda wrong in a major way a trx4 is close to $400 a trx4m is $150 for the defender version and id like to know where I can get a trx4 for the cost of a trx4m or where you are getting a motor and esc and servo combo for $200 compared to a 10th scale motor esc and servo combo which without even knowing off the top of my head is double maybe even triple that of a fully modded trx4m 😂

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  3 месяца назад +1

      Don't take it too literally. The gist is that you buy the car then start upgrading and before you know it you can be hundreds into it. Tenth scale is more, yes, but the difference is not so huge as to be worth it for some folks.
      Bill here is running a 6x6 cross rc that's pretty much sorted, out of the box. You can easily spend that kind of money on a TRX4m and still have a rig you can't take along in the forest as easily, etc.
      The nice thing about this hobby is there are so many niches and so much choice. We can all do something different and all be happy.

      @@RCTNTi mean, no, its not much more money, but I had a trx4, 500 plus another almost 500 in upgrades. Now I run a trx4m upgraded to the bones, 2 speed transmision included, and i haven't spent 500 in the car + upgrades.. So, it's not a lot of money, but twice its more than enought..
