just picked up my Kimbo ten days ago and I can attest to everything he said in this video. When it came to Talon talking about MPG, I was holding my breath for comparison numbers, and I had the exact same experience. I used to be the guy that would fly down the road, and now I'm the guy cruising in the truck camper who you are dying to pass when you get the chance. I've learned to chill; that's what this lifestyle is all about.

Great review. I took my purple Kimbo sticker off the front and removed the rear web site sticker too. I think the 2 painted side badges are fine. Love the "Made in the USA" The quality of the build and its simplicity, plus Mark King overall, sold me on Kimbo from the start.

Thanks man.., your series has definitely put me in the “I need one of these camp”. Glad my question on crosswinds made it. I am used to driving a 170 sprinter which has some pucker factor in severe crosswinds, but it sounds like this setup may do alright (ymmv on rig setup )

Thank you Talon. Kimble tells me that mine will be ready for pickup at the factory after July 19th. It will be serial number 232. Your videos about it have convinced me that what seemed at the time a rather risky decision (8 months out and I would be 80 years old by then) was the right one.

@@TalonSei Talon, I picked my Kimbo #232 today. Nikki took a photo of me with my Kimbo and there is one of the early prototypes in the background. I remember you changed the lettering on yours from purple to black. Mine has definitely blue lettering on it but in the photo she took, the one in the background has very definitely purple lettering. Maybe they heard you? And I did tell them that your videos were a big factor in my decision.

@@terry8912you still loving your Kimbo? I'm 65 now and your post has convinced me that I'm not too old. I'm houseless in the US with a home in the Philippines. I'm contemplating between a fiberglass camper trailer or the Kimbo. I have low mileage 2008 Tacoma 4x4 AC 6' bed with helper springs. Currently with a slide in fiberglass overcab utility body. I would camp in it 6 months a year while staying in the US.

mpgs are the realist struggle when building something that wont get stuck but wont keep you using your gps for waypoints that make it look like you doing a tour of petrol stations.... my rig is doing 8 mpg for trail use and 20 on the highway 32 inch aggressive ATs, a smooth hot air intake, and all the aero gains i can muster without hindering trail performance.

As far as mileage with my Kimbo, a lot of it depends on how much you’re carrying and the weather surprisingly.
So I can get anywhere from 12 to 18 miles to the gallon. I only modified mine with airbag suspension and E rated tires.
So if the weather is really nasty and windy you get the low end of the mileage and when the suns out you get the higher in mileage. But most importantly I keep mine at 60 miles an hour, or you’re going to lose mileage quickly!
I got my Kimbo in Dec 2019 and it’s number 26. Even with this kind of suspension no problems.

We pull a 16.2 NOBO trailer with our 1st Gen Tacoma 3.0L the trailer is about 3k lbs, I see about 10 MPG going up hill with down hill in 15 mpg range 13-14 mpg on the flat. I'm not surprise the 4.0L motor with that camper. My brother has a TRD with the 4.0L he claims best he see's is in the 14mpg range, with 17mpg at best highway no load. I can get 20-21 unloaded if I'm not going 65mph 55-60mph the 5 speed transmission is largely responsible there. Perhaps a manual trans 3rd Gen would get better mileage?

Do you know what the height of your rig is with the Kimbo?

    • @TalonSei
      @TalonSei  Год назад +1

Since my truck is so tall already + the airbags… there top of the kimbo sits at 10ft

@@TalonSei fantastic. I’ve been wondering if anyone makes blocks of wood to protect the stand mounts when the stands are detached, have you seen this yet? Something that could prevent a tree branch from catching and bending the mount.

It would be very easy to make that yourself

This thing makes no sense to me. It's not like you're going to ride in it while the vehicle's moving so why not have a pop top? Dimensionally it looks ridiculous. They could have easily designed it with a popup hard top so that it's very compact when not in use.

With a pop top you might as well just use a tent

Give ya $5000 for the rig! Inflation, recession, heck depression, over crowded cam areas, closing public lands, fuel prices, etc.. All these rigs worth pennies on dollar by September 2022.

I keep my travel lite truck camper. I ordered it from Wisconson brand new for just under $11,000 for a 2021 model . Love it & it weighs the same as kimbo . I put it thru hell off-roading in Death Valley & eastern sierras, Montana & Oregon. Way fancier & functional then a kimbo . The gas mileage on my 4x4 Tacoma is between 13-15 mpg depending on hills wind & speed. I’m in no hurry on vacation, we’ll just early retired 46 yrs young. Not to bash those , I checked them out & did tons of research & I got the best camper at the best price . On line shopping. I had it delivered to ca . Too each there own . Good luck people. I have people asking me all the time , it looks great , functional & for $11,000 brand new , no brainer . No sponser here , I support great products!

Until they put an actual queen size bed (60" X 80") in this rig, it's just bullshit.
