      Researching something random, hiking/walking (sometimes with my phone ready to take photos of unexpected things), reading, deep breaths haha (hear me out - when I get really absorbed in buying stuff, I’m often avoiding something that really freaks me out. So meditating/breathing becomes super important.)

      I agree that online shopping needs to be replaced with another online/digital activity.
      I think mobile gaming is a great way to fully occupy your mind like shopping does. I prefer rummikub and scrabble type games (they say these help ward off senility and dementia).
      Learning to Photoshop is another great online tool. There are free online image editiors (like Pxlr) that act similarly to Photoshop. You can create your own phone wallpapers or ecards for friends, etc.

    Focus on the things I do have or declutter so I can live a lighter life, check my bank account, learning a new language, imagine what I want my life to look like setting goals to get there , doing Tae kwon do, hanging out with my friends and family, basically focusing the things that truly matter in the long term! 😊

    Hi Diana, first I must say, that I am absolutely grateful, to have stumbled upon your channel! Your videos are very comforting and the journey, you are describing, resonates with me.
    For me it was helpful to understand, that shopping was a coping mechanism, to deal with stress or any other negativity in my life. So it isn't necessarily a singular activity that helps me, but how much I am focusing on my well being, holistically. Generally the better and happier I feel, the fewer are the occasions when I catch myself mindlessly shopping.
    But I feel like this is the ultimate goal to reach, so having a few activities to set better habits, is very welcome :-)

    Re: watching as “consumption”
    I agree that it’s a gray area. If you are a passive watcher, then yes watching is totally an act of consumption. I read books and watch videos in the same way (because my college degree and job requires me to). Yes, everything is laid out for you but you can try to understand the layers of a video as you watch it and use that as a jump off point for other activities. Sometimes this requires you to reimagine plot, search for context/subtext/intertext, observe the performances, evaluate if the elements reflect the script, etc. It would be very interesting to do these things while watching videos that have consumerist overtones/have the main purpose of selling you products. Hauls, reviews, Sex and the City, kids cartoons, etc. To me, it is a rebellious act to reject the message of “buy this” whether explicit or not and then end up on a philosophical route of exploring every element of a video. Not to mention, it is more satisfying to own myself and to have power over my own purchasing decisions compared to merely taking these videos as they are (as mere persuasive instructions to buy the same product that a mainstream youtuber/celebrity shoves into our throats).
    It is strange to say but it is true that watching can also be an engaging activity.
    Thank you for this video! It is quite refreshing. You gained a subscriber 😉 😊

    Thank you so so much! Your videos are pure joy! I decided to go on beauty low-buy in April and shop my stash more. I'll do shopping 2-3 times in this month and not as much as usual. I am trying to understand where is my real me and where is my fantasy me :) Also I still shop a lot when I'm bored or stressed and this video was so helpful!

    Yessss! Thank you for making this video, I got a lot out of it, from the upside-down pyramid to the idea that overconsumption is the beginning of the cycle. It helps me understand why decluttering has never worked for me - because I kept just buying more and more. I'm excited for my no-buy to stop that! I also really liked what you said about the 'gap' when you're looking at something on Pinterest, the gap between that idea and your ability to execute it in real life. Also those emails from your dad sound so meaningful and beautiful!

    Haven't brought make up but brought things that are more useful isopropyl alcohol that can double as disinfectant, making brush cleaner, cleaning electronics, and making homemade hand sanitizer (aleo vera gel) I've been writing down my current items and using the makeup related ones up before I buy anything else especially with the sneaky sales going on I need no more makeup happy with what I have

      @@SlowGaze I love the music too. I think you should have it in. And especially since at least for this one it was only at the beginning. I tend to set my background music about -17 dB lower than my vocals but it does depend on the type of music. So sometimes it can be -16 and sometimes even -20. I do really like the music though and it's a nice choice. Maybe you can do a poll and see whether everyone likes music or no music?

    • @Livshaka
      @Livshaka 3 года назад

      meant to add: I think you could drop it by -4 dB maybe -5 and be good! Sound is so hard :/
