    we built 2 cars, #70 and #90 I won the SCCA world Challenge championship in 91 and 92 in these camaro race cars. We also finished 1-2 in the 24 hour of Mosport in Canada in the SCCA world Challenge series.
    these cars both have 100% of our innovations that we designed for the Camaro Market with LG Motorsports.

      True... Its awesome to have someone who knows their way around an engine bay! Not to mention, how to do the needed fixes on vehicles such as "bleeding brakes".... And as nice as it was to see the car be sold for charity, It'd have been the best if Tavarish had strait up given Jared the car since he essentially did all the work on it. You could tell that Jared was doing all that work because he truly thought that the car was something special. I mean, if you had to pay a mechanic to spend 2 twelve hour days sweating in a garage in July in florida of all places, It'd cost more than the $1500 that was originally paid for the car.

    "If you dont have this key, you can't start the car" - It surprises me how little ppl know about this. That's not a 'chip' in the key, it's a simple Resistor. I've had to bypass plenty of these, The TINY Wires will fail, they go from the anti-theft, & up the steering column to the ignition and make Contact with the RESISTOR in the Key. If you ever lose the key/resistor, Just bypass it at the Anti-Theft junction with the approriately sized resistor. You can look that up easy peezy. OR MEASURE IT RIGHT NOW WITH A MULTI-METER. No need to be scared, it's just Basic Electrical. I reccomend Bypassing that system ASAP. it's a HEADACHE.

    that motor never took 5w30. The dealership when new shipped them with 10w30 and most racers ran 10-40.
    Also the "chip" on the key, is not called "a chip on the key" that's the GM "VATS". (Vehicle anti theft system) the chip is just a resistor, I won't post the values but you can easily google the entire list of values for that key, order a resistor online with the correct value, do a little solder job under the dash and get a plain cut key. The VATS system is a tricky beast, if the right resistance is not detected the car will crank, and it will fire for a moment then shut down, but that's only because the fuel pump always primes, VATS prevents the fuel pump from being on in the run condition. I have had a LOT of customers over the years bring in VATS vehicles on tow trucks from other shops because techs really didn't understand how it worked and could not properly diagnose it.
    If that is a factory manual 1LE then the motor is a LB9. If it was shipped auto then it could be either LB9 or L98. the VIN can be decoded to tell you the motor type. if it decodes to an L03 it was not a 1LE.
    I myself had an 89 1LE, I loved that car, and it ended up saving my life. I got rear ended on the freeway at 60mph by someone trying to get me to race them, I was heading to work and not having it, so he attempted a fly by and traffic came to a halt. He tried to get in behind me and nailed me dead on in the drivers rear quarter panel and 1 spun 7 times before jumping the divider and going into oncoming traffic. The car was toast. Hood was gone, rear window was gone, all 4 rims were shattered, seat was broken, steering wheel was folded like a taco. I didn't have a scratch on me. Not even a seat belt bruise. Then when I jumped out of the window, because the door was folded, I rolled my ankle LOL!.
    Mine while built to be a race car, was delivered to a guy in texas and daily driven, until he passed away, then his daughter drove it until the VATS resistor key failed and it wouldn't stay running. I bought the car in the early 2000's for $800.00 then I threw almost $4k into it the first month I owned it. I had the L98 350 CID motor in mine backed by a 4L60. (can't wait for the 700R4 know it alls to jump in and tell me I had one....., but I had a 30 spline input and a pinned flare with o-ring so no it was not a 700R4, and no I'm not confusing it with a 4L60-E, that's a totally different beast.)
    That tuned port setup makes AMAZING torque from off idle up to about 4kRPM then it falls on it's face. If you want to wake that motor up, look into the holley stealth ram intake for it. Lose some bottom end but make up for it with wild gains around 5k RPM.
    Also ditch the stock ECU. I don't think anyone still has the ability to burn chips for that antique. That motor is batch fire fuel injection, despite what many will try and tell you. Just look at the wiring diagram, there is not 8 injector drivers :)
    You can convert it pretty easily to SFI with standalone ECU and some new wires.
    I didn't see a center console so there is no way to verify the RPO codes and you CANNOT decode the vin to find out if it was a 1LE or not, you must have the RPO codes, unless GM can get you a copy of the label based on the VIN.
    being a 1LE owner almost 20 years ago felt like being a member of a secret society, very very few people knew what one was, until the new camaro came out with the 1LE package. When you try telling someone you owned a 1989 1LE that was just one of only 111 ever made, compared to the thousands they made now, they look at you in complete disbelief.
    Still one of the best handling cars I EVER owned, and I have owned more than most people who say they have owned a lot..... Hope it serves you well... if it is a true 1LE you need to hunt down the RPO label, and go road course racing with it.

      I hated them back then, but a few years ago I came across true little old lady 1 owner 91 GTA with 71,000 miles on it that I couldn't pass up. I towed it after it was in a minor accident and the sheister body shop tried to pull a fast one getting it totaled claiming it was worth about $1,500-2,000. As soon as I dropped it off the guy said it was most likely totaled but he'd "help her out and buy it for $5-600 for parts". It needed a door(was fixable), fender and headlight assembly and some paintwork on the hood. It was far from totaled. She swerved and clipped the fender pushing it into the door a little. But because it was a old 3rd Gen the adjuster never came out to look at it and he sent the insurance company a pic from a different rusted out heap. So I bought it off of her instead of letting the shop get it and they were PISSED. It was well known around town and dealer serviced from new and had EVERY record. It even included the window sticker and paperwork from the SLP package she had installed. It had the SLP dealer installed intake,stainless exhaust/ Tri-Y headers, tune and brake package. I didn't know about the SLP stuff till she gave me 25 years of paperwork for the car and I felt guilty for giving her the $2500 I did for it. The SLP dealer installed stuff was over $12,000 on top of what she paid for the car. But the car is amazing and I intended on flipping it but after driving it I completely changed my mind about the thing. Even the color the guy at the dealer called "Mandatory Maroon" has grown on me.

    @glitchworks5957 5 лет назад +4

    You dont have to worry about losing the key quite so much. That "chip" is actually just a resistor. They started putting them into Corvettes and Camaros in 1989 and called it VATS (vehicle anti theft system). Basically the ECU reads the resistance of the key and if the resistance is correct, the starter will engage. There were only 12 resistance values that were ever used and you can splice the correct value resistor into the wiring harness and the car will start without issue. There are charts to tell you which resistor values were used. I had a couple of these cars where the contacts in the ignition cylinder went bad. Splice in a resistor, and poof, the car starts every time you turn the key. In all I've owned 7 of these ranging from 1982 up to 2001 model years.
    Also, if that is the original motor, it will be a 305. GM never mated a 350 to the 5 speeds for two reasons. 1: A 350/5 speed combo would have almost been as fast a Corvette, which we know GM could never allow. 2: The clutches of that time period were rumored to be incapable of handling the torque from the 350 TPI motors over a longer period of time, so warranty replacements would have been required more frequently.
    Its almost a shame that car was gutted and raced. It's one of only 289 1LE's built in 1991 with the LB9 (305 TPI). The 1LE package was decent, but not a super car. Special baffled fuel tank with swinging fuel pickup to prevent starving in corners, aluminum drive shaft, AC delete, dual piston front aluminum calipers, 11.86 inch front rotors, and a factory "performance' exhaust which was good for 5 hp over the regular Z28 exhaust. What makes the 1LE so special now is the rarity of them, especially the 1988 and 1989 models as they had extremely low production numbers (only 4 made in 1988)

    • @ynk1121
      @ynk1121 5 лет назад

      I've owned a 1990 for over 16 years now so it's easy for everything that's different than my car to jump out at me. Those gauges are actually the same for 90. It's a strange year. 1990 has the inside like 91 and 92 but the outside looks like 88 and 89. That dash emblem is a dead give away it's a 91 because it was only used that year. The 90 emblem has IROC written small under it. In 92 they added red writing under it to commemorate the 25th anniversary. The outside is completely wrong for 90. Those ground effects, hood, rear spoiler, are correct for 91 and 92.
      They are claiming something that doesn't even exist. While the IROC and Z28 were two separate packages in the earlier years, starting in 1988 the Z28 RPO code became the IROC package. So there are no 1990 Z28s. Only IROC-Z28s. Due to losing the license in 1990, there are no IROCs in 91 or 92, just Z28s. That's why 90 is so rare and 91 so common. All 90s had to be built in 89 cutting the model year short. They switched over to building 91s making an extra long run that year.
      Edit: I'm thinking they got 1990 from the build date, not the model year. That would make everything fit correctly.

    This car looks very familiar.
    That's because I got a 1990 Iroc Z28 5.7L V8 in my garage.
    This build is very cool because I already know pretty much everything about this car and its cool to see a race car version of it

Roadkill is just one of 40 original shows. Junk Yard Gold is one of my favorites. They have hundreds of others. They just picked up all the original Top Gear shows.
