I just put castrol ultra clean synthetic on my car. Feels like I bought it brand new with how smooth the ride feels. & the price for 5Q at home depot is like 18$
I have a 2010 Chevrolet Impala 9C1 (Police Package), and I've used Castrol Edge 5w-30 since I've owned it; and I will continue to use Castrol Edge for the rest of my life.
Actually, it's pretty well known that synthetic oil creates higher oil usage compared to conventional oil. A quart every thousand miles isn't obscenely high.
Castrol makes great stuff!! I typically run Pennzoil Platinum, but all they had last time was high mileage 5w30 in Platinum, so I went with Castrol Edge this oil change, and I feel confident it will handle the mileage well.
Only oil I put in my Ram 2500 4/4 Hemi with 119,000miles is Castrol Edge High Mileage Full Synthetic. It's Amazing Oil Hemi's Love it" I also use a Wix XP oil filter.
Newer cars warming that long the engine isn't necessary. I would say run your car (weather conditions permitting, meaning if you have ice on your windshield then yes you're going to take longer) about 90 secs or so or when the RPMs on your Tachometer shifts down from. You'll notice your tach shift from about 2 down to about 1. The car will warm faster driving than it will just idling. I shouldn't need to say this but don't go trying to go 0-100 before your engine is warm, you could damage/crack your block
Newer cars 15 years or so dont need to be warmed up. In fact its not good for them to idle in cold in contributes to fuel in your oil. 20 to 30 seconds is all the warm up thats needed.
I use Castrol Edge 5w30 in my CTR FN2 (2008)) and it burns about 1.5 litres every 1000 miles, I love to keep it in VTEC as much as I possibly can. It seems quite a few of the K20 engines like to burn oil especially when giving it the beans.
to keep up with consistency with the testing - i recommend to compare the Mobil 1 Extended Performance with the Castrol Extended Performance (gold bottle not the black)
I run full synthetic Castrol edge high mileage has on my 07 Audi A4 3.2 Quattro with a K&N oil filter would you come a cheaper buying the oil by the gallon
Nice brother how many miles you have on it? I'm actually using pencil platinum for my 2013 sonata 2.0T and yeah she burns too. I'm sure switching the Castro it will be a lot better as well. You can see the difference in the oil conventional oil made from poodle oil seems to be a lot thicker than natural gas oil. Some engines just don't like penzoil. 😕
Currently I use M1 with absolutely no oil loss between changes but my engine has a cold start rattle so I might try Castrol even though GM recommends M1 in my manual.
What I like about Mobil 1 is that it gives you the specs on how much zddp it contains. I tried to find it for Castrol but couldn't. I use Castrol for my BMW's was thinking of switching to Mobil 1. Also zddp is not good for the catalytic converter. Race oils have a high zddp.
My si was burning crazy oil till I switched to 5w30 bc I’m bouta boost. Prolly piston rings but hasn’t really burned any in about 2 months. I’m on Mobil one and used to use Amsoil
Castrol edge high millage!! I had used them all before even the famous mobile 1 high millage. It would burn like hell now that I switched to Castrol edge high millage it barely moved. Great oil "2013 Avalon hybrid*
In my Grand Marquis with the 4.6 Modular V8, I used Castrol Edge high mileage but then wanted to try Pennzoil Platinum high mileage. When it was time to change the oil after using the Pennzoil, I discovered that the engine burned off just under a quart. I never had that problem when I was using Castrol. Went back to the Castrol Edge high mileage and all was well.
I use Castrol too, but I will say oil looking cleaner doesn't always mean what you might think. Engine oil is supposed to look dirty because it's designed to carry nasties to the filter.
Actually this is false oil darken with moisture contamination. Moisture that build in the oil through heating and cooling process. Too much moisture and the oil loses its lubrication properties. 'looking cleaner' means nothing. If anything darker oil shows its working by suspending contaminants in the oil. Heavy engineering tech with 30 years experience.
I would check the pcv valve, spark plugs, & coil packs. I replaced all of them on my 4cylinder toyota. Then changed to castrol Ultra clean. Now it feels brand new.
I have a gsr motor in my del sol douse burn sum oil at high rpms. Switch from valvoline full synthetic to the castrol edge and it eats up almost no oil now.
Excellent. I've been thinking to try the Castrol edge high mileage oil on my toyota that burns a lot oil like your car. Only used mobil one for years, let's see.
Dang a month later and it was that low? I be checking mine every Sunday. Used to have a 98 Accord, half a quart every seven days lol. I usually don't go past seven days with checking oil on an older engine. Check that oil
Sounds very reasonable cause i have just switched to Mobil 1 to experience as well and felt the acceleration is pretty better than Castrol Edge but the Castrol is lighter and smoother .

Clean oil after extended use could also mean it's not effectively cleaning the deposits in your engine. It's a good thing to see dirtier oil after a few thousand miles, means it's doing it's job...
Wrong. Dark oil after a number of engine cycles means that its effectively cleaning deposits from the engine and suspending them in the oil. Who told you clean oil means its working? Never heard so much rubbish.
Castrol has higher HTHS (stronger film strength). Best to use 5W30 A3/B4 (3.5 HTHS) oil, and maybe even try a 5W40. Look for HTHS speced oil of at least 3.3.
Yeah but whatever is better wear friction for the motor is the only thing that matters…. It wont evaporate out enough to mess ur engine up or fast enough where u dont notice the oil pressure light being 3/8 full
I'm not an expert, but I don't think you need to be one to say that the extended performance oil is meant to give you longer OCI, but it may not perform as well in other criteria - there is a cost for everything. I wouldn't use EP if I do my own OC, my guess is it's meant for those who would not bother and just want to go to the dealer once a year for minimum maintenance.
You don’t use high mileage unless it’s leaking oil. Once you go high mileage you can’t switch back due to the additives in them causing seals to swell to stop leaks.
How come my Ford focus drinks oil with all Castrol oils ive used. And with Mobil 1 it stopped drinking! And now with Liqui moly not a single loss of oil. !

Edge hm is mostly for helping slow leaks from what I’ve seen.
@@ardie4 Thanks. My engine is burning some oil too. Not sure if the piston rings are bad. Would this contribute to the "ticking" sound? My oil is always topped off, I check it once a week. I've been told to use "Lucas stablizer HM or their new Low Visocity product. It's suppose to help with a "noisy engine" Any suggestions?
Howeveer, I'll def have my mechanic check it out next time I get an oil change
Every time I’ve used Mobil oil, my engine sounds a little louder, compared to castrol.
Seems to have this problem too, mine is corolla 1zz fe
Good Video
I have been using Castrol oils for 25 years. It's quality oil but not super expensive.
Same engine as my 06 honda element sweet... I will try castrol edge .... Lets race
Lucas oil stabilizer got you 👍
Switch to pennzoil platinum and you dont need for 5k to add nothing. Believe me. I tested that problem 👊
For a car with “turbo” which is better Mobil1 or Castrol?
Castrol
My vehicle just hit 75k and I switched to Castrol Edge High Mileage Oil.
It's Definitely Good Oil"
It’s not the oils fault
Just a thought maybe drive the car normal. Stop popping vtec because that’s part of the problem why you’re going through a quart of oil. Never had oil issues with my SI K20 and it has 140k on it.
GhostF30 Then you’re not popping your v-tec right then.
I’d fill your oil up to the 2nd dot. I spun a rod bearing and blew my motor doing redline pulls with my oil low like yours.
Yea, I always keep oil on the 2nd dot. Castrol does tend to take the heat better than Mobil 1. You would probably see less burned oil and smoother operation if you use Motul but it is definitely higher in price. Nice video.
I heard to much oil can blow your engine too?
yea, id fill it up completely to the second dot. that is actualy the full mark for oil.
@@jamesvwalker268: True is it's overfilled. The top line or hole in the dipstick is FULL not overfilled. Oil supposed to be filled to the top line or hole.
Thank you for this! I used to be a Mobil 1 fanboy when I was younger, I’ve had my RSX since I was 17 lol going to try Edge Extended Performance since it’s actually cheaper than regular edge right now at wal-mart.
I typically use 0w40. Euro edge on my Mini Cooper since it’s Turbo DI.
Have you tried other weights? Like 0w-30 or 0w-20?
Next time try 10w- 30 and see which one works better.
Idk. I run m1 ext perf & a m1 filter in my k20a ek and it loves it. I burn nothing.
••• really! Interesting because my buddy has a k20 accord and his car burns oil too. I will do more research on it! I hope I don’t have to rebuild my engine
@@jdmdennis9763 I'd bet anything you have a leaky rear main. Pull your trans, replace the seal, upgrade the clutch as an excuse. That vid would get lots of hits anyway to compensate the expense.
••• yea I’m gonna be upgrading my oil pan and clutch here soon and I’m Definitely making video on that. 🤠
If your burning 1 quart of any oil within 1000 miles I think you need to rebuild
some engines are just made like that. If the car pulls good and there is no diesel or ratling sound, than there is nothing to worry about
@@_________________7791 running that low of oil it Will sound like a diesel pretty Soon...
No i mean if you know the engine sounds pure like it should be, than there is nothing to worry about. Some new cars are consuming oil right out of the fabric.
The oil new change the sound n if you car is burning oil you do have a problem with your engine
From the Low mark to the High mark on the dipstick is 1-quart
Going over the high mak is just as bad as going below the low mark.
I have a 2017 ford fiesta with 12K miles. I at 7k miles I put in M1 EP and it made my engine run smoother, BUT the oil level went down alot. almost a quart of oil in 5k miles. Im trying castrol edge EP today and we will see what happens.
What happened? Wich one you liked better?
@@evaristocorripio5434 Castrol burns way less. Im sticking with castrol
@@Hoodratliker I recently changed to castrol for my ford focus and im extremely happy with it, great stuff.
Good channel 🌸🌸🌹
Might want to change your cad converter then if that happens
What about oem oils?
Better quality oil will burn faster as it creeps to the openings better. I experienced the opposite as the Castro burned faster than Mobil one that I had been using for 200k miles
Aiso M1 ep is not design for severe usage. Try regular Mobil 1 or QSUD for severe conditions enjoy
