Lol... wait... product design extension? The entire premise of Fusion 360 is to have the entire product design process in one app. That is how you made the subscription sales. But now, that core functionality, is being spun out into a paid extension...
It would be as if Autocad had a paid extension for drawing cad...
I can't wait to get this update! Referencing driven dimensions has been on my wishlist for a long time
Tabs and bossing details in Product Design Extension? Sure, that seems reasonable.
Geometric Pattern in Product Design Extension? Infuriating 😡
Thanks Fusion 360 Team!
What we really need is a frame generator and a decent BOM addin. 👌
But for free, not as a paid add-in
Free, I mean in the basic Fusion package, which most of us pay for.
@@ExMachinaEngineering I'd be happy to pay more for the software if this was added as its still way cheaper than inventor and to me, pretty similar in spec at a 1/5th the price. Inevitably the price will ruse with more and more stuff being added to the program. But we really need this frame generator I feel its letting the community down massively.
I think geometric pattern should be included in regular licence!
Love this Update. Thank you Fusion 360 Team, well done!!
You are sooo awesome guys!!! I love all the new features!!! Thank you sooo sooo much!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for this omg this made my day
Great new features - thanks a lot!
very excited for the geo patterning
The best just got better - awesomer!!
Snap fit connectors!!!! finally! Hopefully tab and slot connections can be added as well
Tangential relationship!!! Finally
Finally!!!!
good to know that there are many attempt to keep this software excels ...thanks
great updates guys.
Nice video, thanks for sharing it :)
Another paid extension.. and its for product design? isn't that what fusion is for in the first place.
You should start F360 core
I heard that there is another NEW EXTENSION called ( Speed boost extension ) which will make fusion 360 work at normal computer speeds instead of the slow cloudy speeds we currently have.
Nice new features. Shame they’re an extension. I already pay a yearly subscription… now if I want access to new features I have to pay even more. Fantastic.
Money doesn't grow on trees
Some of those new features are in the core product.
@@darranedmundson1505 yeah. And some of those Extension features are far more advanced than are available in Inventors Design Accelerators.
WOW!
where is update and web site post
I get the sneaking suspicion that Autodesk has been changing its paradigm from being run by engineers to being run by accountants. Fusion 360 is still the best bang for the buck around, both compared to cheaper and more expensive solutions. But with this update, you're leaving the door wide open.
If snap-fit and boss was free for subscribers and education it would be OK. But right now, if any other company shows the visionary thinking that gave birth to Fusion in the first place, then Fusion would be an easy target.
Yeah, excluding more and more new features and extensions is a great way to have the next set of makers and creators just go somewhere else. No thanks.
@@thomaslum2 Just curious...Where would you go? Onshape? Inventor? Solidworks?
@@TROYOSTRANDER a
Honestly, Fusion is still the clear leader even with these unfortunate changes. I am really looking at the size of the support community and the amount of tutorials being made as a real factor. Something can be incredible but if it’s only you using it and there is no sizable forum or RUclips videos with tutorials, it makes it a tough choice to switch.
@@TROYOSTRANDER Alibre
Some of these (especially the driven dimension parameter stuff) are really life changing. Thanks!
Can you please allow the CAM workspace to have access to parameters? I can't tell you how awesome it ould be to have stock thickness as a parameter and be able to be used in CAM setups.
You can do that actually.. Just make a parametric box with the design environment and use that body as stock.
Maybe the only software from autodesk which seems interesting
Please add a search bar for data panel sometimes its really hard to find components if you have many
Sweet Mumma! There are some great stuff in this update! Hey with that volumetric lattice-ing, can I perform static evaluations on those structures? Will this allow me to evaluate the limits of a 3D printed structure more accurately?
Really good idea my friend. FDM 3D printing always had this flaw of being hard to analyze with structural finite element methods.
You can kind of run FEA for 3d printed parts but stuff like layer adhesion, print temp and many others can lead to parts way weaker than you predicted using FEA.
@@Trancelebration You bet mate. Also the variation in internal structure is another variable.
@@hillfortherstudios2757 Search for "CNC Kitchen" video. He did some nice FEA and tensile tests.
Looks great! Anything in the pipeline to improve general performance?
check out the blog post and the notable fixes. there is a big boost to open performance in this release
I think they are working on a "De-Cloud" extension, which will cost $5000 per year and the application will work on local data only, greatly improving speed and stability, with only the occasional call home to check for valid subscription and back up of data to autodesk servers.
Looks amazing, but sadly not relevant for me and my lab team since it seems the Product Design Extension isn't available for edu-user.
Please consider increasing font size when making these videos. Even at 1080p on mobile the fonts are hard to read.
CAN YOU ADD AN ENGINE TURNING\JEWEL FINISH APPEARANCE PLEASE? i LOVE TO USE RUBBERIZED JEWELING ROD TO DO JEWEL FINISHING ON ALUMINUM WITH DIFFERENT COLORED ANODIZING.
Scripts and Add-ins are missing under the Add-ins drop down in Fusion 360 web, where can I get this option
Don't be so excited.... They are going to take all of Your money... Wow new features? Awesome, pay extra money for that. Fusion was mentioned to small startups etc but their business strategy have change, for same money and functions we can have Inventor which have better satbility and performance. All what You show works great but only on movies, in real live when You want to create bigger assembly You have to.... Wait and wait. Honestly every update make me more and more angry
Yes , you are correct, more money = more slower clunky confusing software!
where is the roadmap for electronics! do i have to wait 3 years for PANELSATION or will that feature be another $2000 extension??
Dave, I haven't tried this in production but i know this was an area i think Eagle was lacking in as well and that is where the tech came from. If you select your board layout (box select it all), then go to Automation > Run ULP, there one called "panelize". This will copy the elements onto new layers and then allow you to group/cut/paste your array. Note that you will need to not use your layers 25/26 for Gerber data. The ulp is offered up by cadsoft. Anyways might meet your shortterm needs.
@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign HI mate, Thanks for that tip, But I already use that ULP for my Panels i use it regularly, And I create my panels properly with it, But its time consuming and if you make a change or mistake in design, then you have to start over, I think it would be an easy fix for Autodesk to make a Panalising feature built in.
Please change the requirement of “FAVORITED” driven parameters. Shouldn’t need to favorite every driven dimension to make use of it. Thanks
Just to be clear Autodesk’s commitment to EDU has not changed. The product design extension is meant to be available to student and educational institutions alike. It looks like an issue is blocking this access temporarily on the release day, but it is being worked on and should be available very soon.
How about tapered threads?
You have tapered threads in the Hole tool on the Create menu. Limited to BSP, DIN, ISO, JIS, NPT and NPT for PVC. Making a custom thread is still a pipe dream... no pun intended there. Best you can do is use the Create > Coil tool and drive a sweep cut or sweep off that coil.
@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Can't get modeled tapered threads, which is kind of the whole point. It's a no-brainer to make a taper, but including the thread is the tricky part.
@@hairyfro I never created modeled threads for production, but if you were maybe 3D printing the actual threads it would be helpful. If you create a hole in a part then use the Create > Thread tool you can created a modeled tapered thread(with the pipe thread spec). Still not a custom size but you can pick from the standards. However I don't believe the threads actually taper and you can't select a tapered face. Room for improvement for sure.
Are you looking to 3D print threads?
@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign I don't see anything about tapered threads in the thread command. And yes, it's for 3d printing. Don't need custom threads, just standard tapered pipe threads.
In any event, the workaround isn't a big deal. I just import a McMaster-Carr model and use that as a tool in the combine command.
@@hairyfro Clever using a mcmaster part as a work around!
For me on the thread tool when i select the thread class i can pick several tapered options and even plastic printed thread options. Maybe one day there will be a good work around to model them but sounds like you have a good solution!
I would have payed 20 euros on top of my already 50 euro subscription, but not sure I'm willing to pay another 67 euros just for this add-on :(.
There should be some start up single license for companys that make less then xxx.xxx amount of $... its a awesome program but so overpriced..
Im not using it commercial, but found myself needing to export a DWG file for making a plate (local company would do for me for free for my 3D printer if i bring them this file type), but i cant do it in free version..
All for $$$$
almost nothing for personal use. For me this is no update :P
Replace, associative match, reference dimensions, open performance, new additive machine, electronics improvements, drawing improvements are all in the personal license.
If education is given second-class treatment, Solidworks may be in my future.
Replace component wont work if components is used in any pattern later - super silly. We still can't sort parameters lol CMON GUYS :)
something that should be basic and standard becomes a paid extension. It's a pity... a lot of cool projects could have been created, but money and profit won...sad...
Why is autodesk spending heaps of time and money on FAR-OUT Features when we still don't have many basic issues solved?? The current version has so many flaws and clunks, yet they keep adding more complexity and bloatedness. We still don't have BOM's, We still don't have revision control, the Electronics library is the slowest and clunkiest think ever. The data panel is almost useless, we still don't have panalizing for PCB's. We cannot change the order of components in the browser tree, we cannot customize the navigation bar, it takes too many clicks to the most commons used functions, we can't do BENDY things like wires or springs . we can't do cable assemblies. etc the list goes on
Dave, there is revisions control, in the Manage Extension. It is a check in/check out rev control offering. Somewhat of a PDM/PLM. It is one of the only extensions that you can't use with Cloud Credits though and must set up with a credit card(unless that has changed). If you have it you will notices Release change orders and additional properties associated with designs.
As far as BOMs, i think that is coming as the Parts tables in drawings are lacking, but honestly if detailed drawings is one of the main things you need then Inventor or Autocad is still a better choice. I prefer to design in Fusion 360 vs. Inventor still.
I think the PCB library is getting an update finally with this January update.
As for the Browser, you can restructure it. If you drag/drop bodies or components you can move them around. If you decide you want a component in another you can just drag it there. Note that this will break internally referenced joints(or can). And the best option is to create those components from the start, but it is possible. Depending on when and how features happened you can even drag them after the component creation in the timeline. But i do believe if a sketch was created at the base level of a design it will need to stay there.
As for the clicks for common functions. Best option i can say there if it is not on the right click menu is to use the S key and then add whatever tool you need there so it is at least next to the cursor.
Bendy things like associative wires/springs. I don't see that ever happening because of the way the structure of bodies/components is. In other assemblies like Inventor where you reference parts and you could design a wire between parts, that can update based on their position and the spline/pline driven by its length. I can't think of a way to make that work in Fusion.
@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign HI mate, I actually have a zoom meeting with Autodesk , this afternoon on the MANAGE EXTENSION, as I have discovered it can do many of the things i wish to have in fusion 360, so let's see what happens. there is no trial version of Manage Extension, but there is a 30 day money back guarantee.
As for bendy things, I think this could be done as a cross between joints and animation, we would just have to add some kind of "PATH" for a bend to occur, which is animated when that part is moved by another part. I know about the browser "restructuring using folders, and even copy and paste, but a change to the browser display would be very easy! it's just a list of data. we need to have alternate views of that data.
@@davem3325 Good luck. Hope Manage works for you. I have been in some of the beta testing for it and know it is always being improved.
@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Thanks, Well, The fusion manage extension is disappointing, still not sure what it does, it appears to be a very cut down version of fusion lifecycle. I will be giving it a proper evaluation for my need, they have a 30 day money back guarantee which i may have to use.
@@davem3325 I think it is a slow transition from Lifecycle to this. So yeah a watered down PDM. I have been pushing for more custom properties. I will say one great thing about Fusion 360 is you have a more direct line to the software to express concerns and provide feedback. I worked with Solidworks for years and even when i was part of a reseller getting a direct line to anyone was impossible.
I will raise your need for panelization next time I talk to the PCB development guys and if I can let you know anything I will.
Greeeeat another extension.
What's next rip out the tool library from CAM and try to sell it as a tool library extension for CAM.
Fusion just keeps getting worse and worse.
