Hello Lars, thanks for the video, but I might have missed something. I have my piece, filled the holes, created the surfaces (even combined them into a single surface, I created the block, but in the Boundary fill, after selecting the block and the surfaces, I only get two little grey cubes. If I understood correctly, I should get three, one for the object cavity and two for each mold. Is there any trick? Should the surface get any thickness?

Thanks for all the videos Lars! You've been a great learning resource for me for sure! I think for me coming from Solidworks and using mold tools, Fusion 360 seems to be a bit smarter than solidworks for creating shut-off surfaces and parting lines. Most of the parts that I've split in Solidworks needed a lot of special manual operations and were not easily split with the mold tools. In this respect creating all of the parting surfaces in fusion in my opinion is much easier than in Solidworks.

Great to see this mold tutorial. I was a moldmaker myself for about 15 years (1990-2005) and in the late 90's we used Cimatron, with is really really fast to design mold as it was concentrated on mouldmaking. Including the electrodes designing, parting surfaces, inserts, ejection rods, cooling circuit, also the CAM etc. So when I saw you had to wait 4 minutes to devide the blocks i'm wondering how to proceed to build a complete mold with all the parts, electrodes, cam programs etc. In Fusion360. Hope to see more of video tutorials in that direction by you. Thumbs up for thisone.
Another thing I'm missing in Fusion360 is the standard hole creation like for bolts witch connect to or more pieces together to be able to make in a few clicks f.i. M12 to hold the insert in the moldblock.
Same to add ejector pins in that mold with all the thru holes and chamfers, the pin itself.
Is there a way to select a point and add a bolt to 2 or more pieces including all the correct holes for all the parts?

Hi Lars. First of all thank you for sharing all that knowledge. Definitely I've been learning so much with your videos.
About the plastic parts and shrinkage - should we scale the whole part uniformly or we should differentiate along the mold opening direction, or any other particular rule?
Once more thank you for all your sharing.
    Cheers.

    great work Lars,
I was kind of wondering about the sweep you created to cover up the corner missing surfaces. Well the sweep looks fine but its sharp-cornered. Is there a way to create the split surface with smooth surfaces without sharp bends. Its kind of necessary for sheet metal forming tools.

    Hi Lars,
thanks so much for this video, I just got around to watching it now. I have two questions:
    1. Is there a way to use the draft analysis tool to help you in locating your parting line position directly or is it more like a helper tool to let you think about where you will place the parting line but in the end you have to place it based on some geometry? Hope that makes sense?
    2. Did I miss something or what is the specific reason for using the boundary fill tool in the end? Would it be possible to do a normal extrude ->> up to surface on both sides of your part / parting surfaces?
Thanks and keep up the good work!

    • @cadcamstuff
      @cadcamstuff  6 лет назад

Hi SuperRistopaha Thank you for watching!
      1. I will say it is a helping tool. But, it for sure can help shine some light on things.
      2. I used boundary fill for two reasons. One, I like to show different tools , in the hope someone learns something new. Two, Bryce Heventhal (My Fusion Guru) always says he thinks it solves better than solid or surface stich.
Hope you have an awesome day!
      Best,
      Lars

Lars, I am working with a mold, when I try to create the sweep in "Patch Mode" using the Single Path option, after selecting the Profile and Path, the distance never populates and the OK button remains gray so I cant select it. Any ideas what may be causing this? I tried all the available options in the Sweep menu none of them work, and I have 4 corners that need the sweep patch all of them behave the same.

Lars, I am trying to split the face of a U-shaped part. I am assuming that you need to create the lofted surfaces from the inside of the U as well as the outside. How would you handle the blending of the inside surfaces?

No problem Lars, will do. To clarify, I am trying to split the body, not face, of a U-shaped part. This is so that I can create core/cavity for an injection mold, as is the case in your live stream video #80. I think that I have figured out the answer to my question since then. However, now my issue is when I try and utilize Boundary Fill I receive a warning that "Some sculpt cells are mismatched."
