Couple of points: 1. never put dimensions inside of parts. 2. dimensioning the wall thickness creates a double dimension (place thickness of ID in parentheses). 3. dimension and tolerance should have the same number of decimal places.
FYI I've been designing and drafting for 50+ years so I do have a little experience :-)

I really enjoy your videos. They help me a lot to figure out Fusion 360. With that being said, I work full time as an mechanical engineer with machining drawings and to dimension these prints accurately, one really needs to familiarize themselves with ANSI.
A few things to note right off:
    - The thickness measurement is fine, but it is now a reference. This is denoted by ( ) around the dimension.
    - I would have deleted the bottom most section because it is repetitive. You can get all the info you need from your Section BB.
    - The radius TYP thing is confusing on your drawing. You need to clear that up to the 'machinist'
    - We do NOT use periods (.) after anything, I think it just adds confusion. So 0.1 RAD TYP or 0.1R TYP is better, IMO.
Anyway, ANSI is a rabbit hole by itself that one can spend many hours on learning. I am not a pro myself.
Thanks again for helping me understand the mechanics behind creating a 2D dwg!

Very good, as usual. Thanks. I’m starting to get past the total beginner stage, so when I see what you’re modelling I pause the video and do it myself, to see how my effort compares. I get there, but you always have some clever tricks I didn’t know. It helps that I have an Aeropress to measure. Excellent choice of model.

It is easy and deceptive to work on such a simple part having little details. In Fusion 360 when you try to get technical drawing of a rather complex part it is almost impossible to locate dimensions to place where you want, width sizes of texts and dimension arrows are not configurable. It is impossible to get a drawing without overlapping of dimensions. I do not even mention that the drawing is not able to update itself according to changes in the model. Technical drawing of Fusion 360 has lots of gaps which should be improved.

One caveat with 2D drawings in Autodesk Fusion 360, is that it gets confusing with the lines of the actual model and the lines used for dimensioning. I always end up exporting the PDF, from Fusion 360 to Adobe illustrator, to give the dimension lines a different color, a shade of grey. This makes the black lines of the model prominent, creating less confusion. Again, thank you very much for the video, I did learn quite a few new things.

  • @larryhoelscher9888

Yes I taught 25 years of paper/pencil drafting. Line thickness still counts. In sectioning, one should not draw section lines parallel to object lines. Can you change the angle of section lines. In my previous post I asked, can you scale the section pattern for the size of the part drawn? If not the section lines will be lost on small parts. My CAD program allows me to change these.

Are you talking about different cross-hatching for different materials? Not sure I totally understand what you mean about a pattern.

OK, I am hooked on your teaching videos. As in your coffee scoop, the section view is very material. Can you change the angle of the sectioning pattern? Can you change the spacing of the pattern for small sections? And yes for 25 years of teaching paper/pencil drafting before switching to CAD. Did or have they moved on the issue of line thickness? My laser printer needs me to increase my line thickness to distinguish lines.

Hello. Imagine you have to make a lathe part, with many diameters and lengths. How can we have a drawing of a section view with shortened diameter dimmensions?. Like a large ring part with multiple features.

      @cadcamstuff  5 лет назад

As far as I know, you can’t make shorten dimensions in Fusion. There might be a work around on RUclips somewhere

@@cadcamstuff that is a little sad. Hole wizzard doesn't have NPT holes either

loubee how would you make a drawing of the part when a 3D drawing of the part does not exist?

Hi Louis Bogdan Thank you for watching!
In the past, I have made the 3D model so I could make the drawing.

Thank you for all that you do here! You are awesome! Question... In this 2d drawing video, the coffee spoon has a line around the circumference that disappears in the drawing. I have a clean model, but I also have several lines that I cannot hide from fillets or lofts. I just realized that they are the lines between faces. Could you tell me how to hide them or join faces?

    • @cadcamstuff
      @cadcamstuff  6 лет назад

Hi Marc Mason Thank you for watching!
I am not hundred percent sure I totally follow(I might need more coffee) But if you right-click and select edit View, you can change different display of lines. There are pretty strict rules in the 2D world on how drawings should be dispayed so be careful you don't hide lines that could confuse who need to make the part....just saying :-)

so just like cad, where i came from, but when you build a full project with things inside of things it becomes hard to detail it out.. any tips on that? wow just seen this is from 2017.. humm no replies I bet here.. time to find another video

Might be a little late but what I learned when I took a course about this was:
Make a drawing of each seperate part of your thing for instance your thing is a bar with a wheel on it assembled with a bolt and nut. Make a drawing first on the bar, then the wheel, and finally an "assembly" drawing describing how you combine the two parts. Here most people also add a BOM (Bill Of Materials) with a reference number/name to the technical drawings of each part.
I hope I am not too late and that this made some sense, and that it also answered your questions :)

@@pumpSHO In my drawing view I'm measuring a circles diameter and its suppose to be .125 based off my model, but it keeps giving me .130. Any idea why this is giving me a wrong dimension? I'm measuring it in the front base view. How did you fix this?

  • @ctbram0627

it is to damn big! I cannot fit a front and side view without printing over the title block! I need a low profile title block that does not consume 1/3 of the bottom of the page!

Hi Mark's Engineering Thank you for watching!
It will add a thin layer, so from a machining standpoint you will have to make all your dimensions undersize to accommodate.
Hope you have an awesome day!

this fusion 360 is the least intuitive friendly cad I have ever had to suffer through
Taking so much wasted time to simply sketch and then send to a desktop printer is a disgrace
the whole 3d print so called option is a total waste
My 8 year old Solidworks is like a Rolls Royce compared to the Model T fusion 360
Typical AutoDesk ("all the programmers are on meth) software
