Hi great tutorials. I don’t know what I would’ve done without them. Some people have criticised you for repeating a lot, as there is a ‘drag’ scroll button if anyone needs to go back. I have to disagree and they obviously are unaware of good teaching practise. I want to be about to watch the tutorial the first time without multitasking (as you suggest) and your method means that basic and deep knowledge is reinforced from the very start. This is great teaching practise - please please don’t change your methods. I can only assume those few who have offered you this criticism have no knowledge of the psychology of learning. Thank you - great work.
Very simple stuff that took me weeks to learn when I started out, and I was so proud of myself when I managed to buildt a model. Wish these video's were available back then. Would have saved me so much time. Great video Lars.
I'm using a newer version of fusion 360 and when I shell, it only shells the ring and leaves the lower cup filled......15 minutes of confusion and I figured it out.....my version of 360 did NOT "join" by default when I revolved. I had to rewind on the history back to the revolve step and this time I clicked on JOIN. Worked perfectly.

Best I’ve found for beginners to cad, not just fusion, for sure. You move at a good pace, you break things down and sort of layman’s terms that are much easier to understand. It’s still a lot to take in but it is doable. Thank you.
I like your tutorials. You not only show how it is done, but also explain why you do it like that. In addition, you quite often refer to previously learned concepts. That repetition is very useful for someone who does not remember all the steps immediately.

Really enjoying these tutorials. You're a good teacher, Lars. This is my 3rd tutorial ever on Fusion 360 and CAD in general (just started tinkering with CAD last week) , and decided to used the skills learned from your previously watched tutorial on making a drawer with handles, so I skipped ahead in this video and created the scoop with the tips from that previous video. So I created a two point rectangle, then added two 3-point arcs to the bottom of the rectangle , matching the width of the rectangle, closed the two arcs at the ends with lines , and then used the REVOLVE command (learned in previous video) on both shapes, instantly creating the scoop :D Then continued watching this video to see how you did it and while we did it differently, I did pick up a new trick which would have probably made my design even faster (Center Point Arc). Thank you for this series, easy to learn, concise, perfect.
I have recently downloaded the Fusion 360 to my laptop, I began searching for tutorials and publications to learn about the new software and your video on beginners was the first title, I want to thank you for how easy your instruction has made it to understand the manipulation of this software.
I think you can do the whole scoop part with revolve by drawing how far (on the top part) from the center line straight down for the length of the straight part, then the round part from the straight line to the center line and then draw the second line how far from the first line as how thick you want the scoop wall to be and then revolve around the center line.
Confidence is growing, thank you for your easy to follow and friendly teaching style. My thoughts are that you just need to have a go and see what it does, can't break anything or do any lasting damage but simply roll back history and try again. Oh, and don't get stressed, treat it like a fun thing and laugh at your mistakes.
Thanks Lars for all your great Fusion 360 vids. I have mentioned to others that you share some of the best tutorials on any subject. I love how you deliver the content and are very thorough with everything. I am finding Fusion is very easy to learn since I have been using CAD software for nearly 20 years. Even so, watching your vids is entertaining, informative, and extremely useful. I have taken on-site classes on Delcam, Mastercam, etc. You rarely learn as much as you expect to in those classes. You are the best instructor I have seen thus far. Great job, and thanks again.

I come from "Rhino" world and I learned by myself since year 2000 using it for hobbies purposes, and when I wanted to migrate to Fusion360 I felt so frustrated because I did not understand the basic use and mechanic of the software and other stuff, until I found your videos, I must to say, thanks to you, I broke this frustration and be able to do it alot of designs and learn to use the software, and I only want to say, THANKS A HUGE Best regards from Buenos Aires, Argentina, you are my hero man!

You have a knackfor getting people over the difficult geometry requirements required in producing effective strategies to get thedrawings completeted . Lars, I am really enjoying learning Fusion 360 from the videos that you are posting. No ear exploding entrance, pleasant intro and exit light filler music in the back ground, clean organized work area, enthusiastic presentation, knowledgeable and humble leading of subject. The content is terrific. I was wondering if you could point me to a table of contents or searchable listing that I could use to target the videos that would make most sense for me to watch next. Hi Lars, fantastic videos, my first days with F360, you made the difference! I have the free version 2020 and noticed some actions are different to yours, but eventually I found them in top menu, not side popup menu. I couldn't get the fillet where the handle goes onto cup section, the end of handle is fine with fillet. From what I can see Cura slicer will provide support for the handle. Great work Lars, I have a lot to remember and learn. cheers Andy

Just stumbled on your channel today and really enjoyed your tutorial style. I am a noob with Fusion 360 but enjoying watching everyone's videos and picking up bits and pieces as I go. I just completed the series by Paul McWhorter called "Learn Fusion 360 or die", quite enjoyable but left me with a thirst for much more knowledge, I have subscribed and liked your channel today and will be watching more.
The way I did it is to just create a cylinder pull it to the total height I want. Then I highlight one edge and click fillet and adjust till I get the dome end like you have. then I do the shell thing. I draw my handle sketch on the scoop part and extrude from object..kinda same as yours but I got into a habit of extruding from the object designing these really cool beer steins where I wanted to extrude images save in svg amd also text from the surface of the stein.
Great video, thanks for explaining. Had a quick chuckle about the 'we can use a window to select all these edges'... (1 selected). Very interesting material.
this is fantastic as I'm going to have to cut out half circle cut-outs of a centre shaft, excellent class thank you. You have made fusion so much easier to get to grips with, I was trying to learn cad from web and not was work correctly but know you are giving me the confidence to start using this program.

Especially when I try to re-do what you did live. And ... that works ! For real !. I am discovery F360 for hobby and learn more and more everyday thanks to you. so i took the challange to try it a different way than I'd usually do it. I'm usually designing in inventor only but im looking for alternatives as my student license is running out this year. That was my very first attempt of designing anything in fusion and I gotta say it's veeeeery simular to inventor. It took me 15min and 30sec to design this without watching ur video first. Different to normal I used a sketch and the revolve tool to create the bowl itself and then extruded the upper cylinder part (that was very basic). For the handle I created a plane perpendicular to the cylinder of the bowl and then created a circle in addition with using a circular pattern to design the grooves and then extruded that. This was a fun challenge thx :D edit: well after watching ur video now u almost did the exact same thing. u could've saved a bit of work by starting with the revolve itself already drawing out the basic shape to make that hollow before revolving and then u only have to extrude the cylinder. That'd be a bit quicker than what u've done but either way works I guess

Hi Lars. I've been working my way thru your video's with the electrical junction box...it's a steep learning curve but I'm really enjoying learning it. My one issue..well one of many is..my version of fushion360 is different from yours in that I don't see things in the various menu's that yours shows. Was wondering if you could do a video something with version 2.0.16985 x86_64 and go thru the most useful tools and where they are?
you challenged us to find different ways to do things, i did a shape like this the other day, and i did it with a slot, offset it for the wall thickness, revolved it and cut the top half of the object off to make the hollow cup. its great how many ways theya re to do things

Hi Lars. I really appreciate the detail you present in your videos and have reviewed them several times. Each time I manage to pick up new insights. Something as simple as the coffee scoop really had several features I had never tried before. So, I made the scoop!! However, it would be helpful if you could take a model like this one step further. How did you print the scoop, especially with the handle requiring supports. I noticed your scoop handle did not seem to show signs of having supports removed. A video on the intricacies of support would be helpful, if not already available. BTW, I see so many ages in the comments...I am an 81 yo retired clinical biochemist!!!.
Question: Instead of using an offset plane for the handle, I used a tangent plane, then extruded 2 sides, one for a distance, the other to an object (the side of the model.) This worked great. Right up until I wanted to fillet that spot where the extrusion touched the scoop. It only wanted to fillet the same way it did the other end of the handle, so I actually would have less plastic holding the handle to the scoop. How does one get it to fillet in the other direction? I couldn't drag the arrow nor did "-1" do anything useful. Thanks for all your live streams and the tutorials. I've totally been enjoying them and learning a lot along the way!
Hmmm. Probably not. At least, not explicitly. I'd paste the picture of my extrude in here, but heaven forbid that RUclips would allow that. Anyway, I just did the extrude, start at profile plane, two sides, side1: distance, 120mm, 0 taper, side2: to object, min solution, chain faces, 0 offset, 0 taper. Then click OK. I guess I thought that if I extruded "to object" it would automatically know that they should be joined. How do I tell it to join them? Oh, wait, nevermind. I found the 'combine' command under 'modify', the combined the two pieces. Once I did that, it properly did the fillet. Did I have to do the combine because I used a tangent plane for drawing? I didn't see Lars do that in the video. Oh, wait, nevermind that question too. I see that Lars had "Join" as his final operation in the extrude dialog. In mine, it defaulted to "new body". That explains it all right there. I rolled back the timeline to get rid of my 'combine', then edited the extrude to be 'join', and now I can fillet to my hearts content. This is a cool app. :-)

Hi Lars, fantastic videos, my first days with F360, you made the difference! I have the free version 2020 and noticed some actions are different to yours, but eventually I found them in top menu, not side popup menu.
I couldn't get the fillet where the handle goes onto cup section, the end of handle is fine with fillet.
From what I can see Cura slicer will provide support for the handle.

Just stumbled on your channel today and really enjoyed your tutorial style. I am a noob with Fusion 360 but enjoying watching everyone's videos and picking up bits and pieces as I go. I just completed the series by Paul McWhorter called "Learn Fusion 360 or die", quite enjoyable but left me with a thirst for much more knowledge, I have subscribed and liked your channel today and will be watching more.
The way I did it is to just create a cylinder pull it to the total height I want. Then I highlight one edge and click fillet and adjust till I get the dome end like you have. then I do the shell thing. I draw my handle sketch on the scoop part and extrude from object..kinda same as yours but I got into a habit of extruding from the object designing these really cool beer steins where I wanted to extrude images save in svg amd also text from the surface of the stein.
all of this information for free is incredible lol

Great video. I really hope that your job is in teaching area.You would make your students so happy. Learning with you to use the software is sweet and works like a charm. Especially when I try to re-do what you did live. And ... that works ! For real !. I am discovery F360 for hobby and learn more and more everyday thanks to you. so i took the challange to try it a different way than I'd usually do it. I'm usually designing in inventor only but im looking for alternatives as my student license is running out this year. That was my very first attempt of designing anything in fusion and I gotta say it's veeeeery simular to inventor. It took me 15min and 30sec to design this without watching ur video first. Different to normal I used a sketch and the revolve tool to create the bowl itself and then extruded the upper cylinder part (that was very basic). For the handle I created a plane perpendicular to the cylinder of the bowl and then created a circle in addition with using a circular pattern to design the grooves and then extruded that.
This was a fun challenge thx :D
edit:
well after watching ur video now u almost did the exact same thing. u could've saved a bit of work by starting with the revolve itself already drawing out the basic shape to make that hollow before revolving and then u only have to extrude the cylinder. That'd be a bit quicker than what u've done but either way works I guess

Hi Lars. I've been working my way thru your video's with the electrical junction box...it's a steep learning curve but I'm really enjoying learning it. My one issue..well one of many is..my version of fushion360 is different from yours in that I don't see things in the various menu's that yours shows.
Was wondering if you could do a video something with version 2.0.16985 x86_64 and go thru the most useful tools and where they are?

you challenged us to find different ways to do things, i did a shape like this the other day, and i did it with a slot, offset it for the wall thickness, revolved it and cut the top half of the object off to make the hollow cup. its great how many ways theya re to do things

Hi Lars. I really appreciate the detail you present in your videos and have reviewed them several times. Each time I manage to pick up new insights. Something as simple as the coffee scoop really had several features I had never tried before. So, I made the scoop!! However, it would be helpful if you could take a model like this one step further. How did you print the scoop, especially with the handle requiring supports. I noticed your scoop handle did not seem to show signs of having supports removed. A video on the intricacies of support would be helpful, if not already available. BTW, I see so many ages in the comments...I am an 81 yo retired clinical biochemist!!!.
every tutorial I do gets to a point that the new software will not do, the last one was that the shell will not woork on the curved section
Question: Instead of using an offset plane for the handle, I used a tangent plane, then extruded 2 sides, one for a distance, the other to an object (the side of the model.) This worked great. Right up until I wanted to fillet that spot where the extrusion touched the scoop. It only wanted to fillet the same way it did the other end of the handle, so I actually would have less plastic holding the handle to the scoop. How does one get it to fillet in the other direction? I couldn't drag the arrow nor did "-1" do anything useful.

Hi Tim, did you join (combine) the two bodies (handle & scoop) before trying to apply the fillet?
Hmmm. Probably not. At least, not explicitly. I'd paste the picture of my extrude in here, but heaven forbid that RUclips would allow that.
Anyway, I just did the extrude, start at profile plane, two sides, side1: distance, 120mm, 0 taper, side2: to object, min solution, chain faces, 0 offset, 0 taper. Then click OK.
I guess I thought that if I extruded "to object" it would automatically know that they should be joined. How do I tell it to join them?
Oh, wait, nevermind. I found the 'combine' command under 'modify', the combined the two pieces. Once I did that, it properly did the fillet.
Did I have to do the combine because I used a tangent plane for drawing? I didn't see Lars do that in the video.
Oh, wait, nevermind that question too. I see that Lars had "Join" as his final operation in the extrude dialog. In mine, it defaulted to "new body". That explains it all right there. I rolled back the timeline to get rid of my 'combine', then edited the extrude to be 'join', and now I can fillet to my hearts content.
This is a cool app. :-)
