The best description I’ve heard of Heilung came from a RUclips comment on one of their videos and I unfortunately forget the persons handle so I can’t give them credit but they said “Heilung makes you homesick for somewhere you’ve never been and nostalgic for a life you’ve never lived” which I think summarizes them perfectly!
Dude... That had to be a comment of mine! I don't remember on which video it was, but I know I said exactly that somehwere, 'cause that's absolutely how I feel about this music. BTW, it's called farsickness (fernweh in german); a longing for a place you've never been to.

As a singer, see Maria Franz full power in "In Maidjan", live from Castle Fest. It was their first song in a live performance. Hard to believe it was a bands first performance
This was their new band, but they were in an older hybrid metal/EMO German-Scandinavian band for a number of years. When they met with the hip hop shaman tattoo artist, they reinvented themselves as Heilung.
The singing that Maria does in the middle of the song on the beach (3:50) is called Kulning, a Scandinavian herding call. Such a beautiful song and great to see your enchanted reaction.
I highly recommend you Wadruna feat. Aurora - Helvegen Its a beautiful song about the nordic afterlife, the live performance of them was incredible. Wadruna made some songs for the series "Vikings", they try to make people aware of the old nordic songs so they dont get forgotten. Aurora is a Godclass singer and also has tons of great songs.
She is a changeling. Capable of living any moment of her life that she so chooses. Which is why you see her in different stages of womanhood. This story is based off of ancient coins/charms that depicted people being born under the eclipse possessed.

People of Germanic heritage seem to have a gut reaction to Heilung, I know I do. Anoana was a great Shaman, born during an eclipse. Note the antler buttons on the infant. YES, a Musk Ox. The language is as close to ancient Germanic/Gothic as can be expected.
@@HemlockRidge its proto norse, i think it comes from amulets and stuff from in between 400 AD- 750 AD. its mainly reused roman gold and silver with some inscriptions. but its viking for me, giving the starting date of vikings is hard since they did not spawn in 793 AD. there were there way before building longships or (proto-)longships back in roman times.
Can I just add som points that are important in seeing this? The most important being that the child is born under an eclipse 0:56 (seen in background several times). According to previking believs they had very special gifts: hamnskifte (= the ability to change appearance), age shift, talking to animals, and healing as in when she heals the bird. The previking time and it's religion in nordic countries is much more female directed than the religion in the later years (viking gods like Tor and Oden with all the everpresent masculinity... ). Actually it is more animistic than divine. The language they use is only partially known and therefore reconstructed. The final scene is when she reunites with her totem, the muschosoxe. Nice reaction:) Had the privilege to see them live here in Sweden last autumn, and it was fantastic. What an amazing show. If you have the chance to see them live, don`t miss it. As many suggested you should give Krigsgaldr and In Maidjan a listen. Because we need more Heilung reactions:)
I saw them live in Toronto September of '22 and, it was exactly what I had been led to expect - more of a ritual we all shared than a performance we watched. This song in particular captures the old Norse world view of human interaction with the magic that inhabits the world of nature all around us, and within us - similar to the invocation at the beginning of each public ritual. Maria's regalia places her as a traditional seidr (more properly seiðr), a term you might enjoy researching.
In the video you'll notice when they are dancing around the camp fire there is a solar eclipse in the background, the belief is that a child born during a total eclipse will be "special"
Watch the live performance of Lifa. All their instruments are hand made the way it was traditionally made. Some instruments also include bones of animals and there was also an instance where they had human bone as an instrument. That's what I've heard. Also, they did some gifting of hand made drums that included using the blood of each member to paint the drums 😍 This group is the only one other than Wardruna that speaks to my soul. Glad you've done a reaction to them 😊
Every heilung song is a ritual.. her charging at the beast is her merging with the nature itself cause Anoana was said to be a land warrior, protector of the land.. Check out Alfadhirhaiti, in Maidjan, Krigsgaldr, Norupo all from this band.
I liked that reaction, and the fact you did a bit of research behind the band. I would recommend to dive into quite a few of their songs. In Maidjan live is great to showcase especially the lead female singers voice, Krigsgaldr live is great to get a good feel, and if you like another music video, they made "Norupo", which is quite cool aswell! If you want something special, like these, check out Eivør - Trøllabundin, she is an artist from the faeroe islands, and quite captivating!
Everyone has their view on this song. To me it is a child born different than anyone else. She goes out into the world living her life, searching for her vision, her goal on who she is. She keeps on living her life alone, separate from all others, until one day she finds her calling, and the universe delivers....
Nice one 😊. Try one of their other popular ones In Maidjen. Their music is based on very old Nordic tribal writings and they are described as amplified history. I havent spoken to anyone that has heard them and not be moved by the experience.
Marias high pitched singing is Külning, a herding call that roots in shamanic singing (Galdr) along with hornplaying, echos were thought to be the answers of the spirits. Anoanas story seems to be tied to the cycle and story of the runes. Some positions in how the shamans hold the antlers refer to the runes. They frequently make the U shape of the rune Uruz. Her carressing the ox as a kid symbolises her caressing her primal powers. But as we develop, old habits can become selfdestructive as we dont need them anymore. As an adult she was ready to let her old self go so she fully charged into her own primal force to knock it down. Its like shedding old skin, a death of your old self, developing into something new. It was her own inner transformation. Birth - growth -maturing - death - rest - birth etc. The clip depicts the cycle of life and with that the cycle of the story of the runes :) Heilung depicts the stories of bronzeage / iron age europe. Much of it has gone lost but they give the surviving shards of this ancient culture a new and modern shape and sound :)
My younger brother passed away in 2019, found Heilung when just mindlessly trying to find things on yt , and was so drawn in to the music/ritual. Few days before traveling to the funeral , during and still do now , can say listening to these amazeing musicians i am slowy healing. Watched their 2017 liveshow over and over again during those first few months after. Skål 👍🏼🍻
Here's my input: The girl was born, and as we saw, the baby had antlers from her birth. This signifies that she is not entirely human, but not a beast either. She is something else, in between. She was brought up by Nature and the wild as her mother and we notice there's more to her when she managed to revive a dead bird so it could fly and live on. We can also see her being in harmony with Nature on several occations during the video, for example when the child rests on the ox. Then, she grows up, becoming an adult and eventually will grow older. Perhaps some kind of guardian ('Landawarior Anoana' which is actually sung in the lyrics), or demi-godlike being. Towards the end we see her charge against the musk ox before the video is cut off. This signifies her death, and the end of a life, or an existence. So in short, I'd say this song is about birth, life and death, which completes the cycle before it can begin a new again. As for the group as they perform the song, they signify the magic or spirit of Nature, or the life-forces driving us forward.
Heilung and Ren are by far my two favorite artists of recent memory. Though sounding very different from each other, they both hit my soul the same way. I have yet to hear something from either one that I didn't love.
i have been to their show in December in Munich. A truely unique experience. If you ever have the chance to see then live you should take it by any means

What I read a while back when this was released and found fascinating was the stereo chanting was a protection spell they used to use to enchant the medallion she picked up in the woods. I get chills every time I watch this.
Saw them live a few months ago in Detroit.... I can't even describe the experience.... It was simply amazing. If you ever get the chance, see them live!
One of the most beautiful pieces of music that I have heard. This group are amazing and this is my fave of theirs. I cannot understand the words but it instils an emotional response as all great pieces of music should.
The best part of watching heilung reactions .. is simply watching the expressions on peoples faces as they have a million questions .. they wonder.. they travel.. they feel.
YEEEEESSSSS FINALLYYYYYYYY !!! Thank you for dipping into some sweet cultural juice! i am a grown man and everytime i hear this song i start to cry. underrated for sure.
My mothers side of the family is from Norway, I have the blue eyes, But my fathers side are Seminole Indians, My great grandmother is full blooded, and she was the niece of the last war chief Chief Billy Bowlegs (Holato Koniphatco Micco) (1810-c1859), also known as Billy Bolek, who was a leader of the Seminoles in Florida during the Second and Third Seminole Wars against the United States. One of the last Seminole leaders to resist, he eventually moved to Indian Territory in present day Oklahoma.(he has a town named after him Bowlegs Oklahoma and right across the river is a town named Seminole {i am his nephew)he is my great great great great uncle and this song brings me to tears and takes me to another world every time i hear it so it is so primaeval I am so proud of him he never surrendered' to so the government had to pay him off, (but he had over 50 slaves he owned and took with him which i am so ashamed of) the Indians on the reservations were the last to owned slaves even after the Civil War because they were their own Nations and did not have to follow US laws and treated them like the white people did selling their families and breaking them apart, so even being noble does not make a person good!!!!!!!!!
the live version of krigsgaldr was the first time I saw and heard them and was captivated... their music speaks to you on a different level than most, even if it isn't your own cultural heritage
Another vote for Eivor reactions. She's another mega-talent like Floor Jansen... more of this band is their first live performance called "LIFA". This was fudging beautiful! Keep 'em coming! Love discovering new music with you. I mean, quite often it's hard to make yourself listen to something new. It's easier and 'safer' to go back to something you already know and love rather than dive into unknown waters, but your videos are super fun to watch so Imma continue this journey of new discoveries with you as my freaking captain! Thanks 😍 It also seemed like you got quite emotional right at the very end of the video. Maybe I'm wrong, but maybe it just hit you then...
Ray I'm soo glad you chose to react to this. It such an empowering and beautiful song. I love how not knowing the language allows everyone to freely decide what it means to them. Heilung is wonderful.
Great reaction Rachel! I've watched this video several times in the past. I don't know what the story behind it is, but I find it visually stunning, beautiful sounding and very soothing.
I don't know what it is, but by the end, there is a tear in my eye and I feel something building in my heart. I get that it might sound incredibly cheesy, and I am certainly not one for overreacting....but this song/video absolutely stirs something both emotionally/mentally and spiritually.
At the very end - when the grown woman and (essentially) her pet Musk Ox charge at one another...think of the whole song as us being one with nature and being a part of nature. When they run at one another...this is not a "battle"...this is a coming together and melding of human and nature. If you see the final shot of this video through those eyes, you can see where it makes sense in context.
A few years ago I was seriously struggling with anst and, depression. To the point that I said yes to be sorta locked in; free weekends but 3 months heavy stuff. What healed me was Heilung, liten to them while going through the dark forest was amazing. And I'm not the only one. Heilung means healing, and for me that was true. Heilung sorta healed me, and without them I wouldn't be here, I owe them my life.
It’s a symbol of the power and fearlessness of women. Reminding society to respect women. It’s so powerful, even as a man it puts me in tears and I feel proud to have been through what I have with some, yet I still show all women respect. Steer clear of rap, hiphop and rock music. Listen to music that tunes your soul to higher more divine vibrations. Love thy neighbor. Love the trees. Love the grass. Love the dirt. Love the clouds. Love the rain. Love the sun. Love animals. Love everything…
heilung feels like my ancestors are talking to me and waking something that never had been touched by this modern world. it makes you question your life and your way of thinking about stuff. greetings from germany.
Never heard of Heilung until now. They sound like a great group to listen too. Watching their video, at first the antler imagery reminded me of the Celtic god Cernunnos, as the video progressed the language kind of sounded like Finnish to me, then the shamanic imagery made me think of the Sami people of Lapland. It was not until I saw the runes at the end that I realized it was Norse oriented. Then you mentioned the band was possibly telling a story from Germanic roots corrected my earlier thoughts. The video was great, I loved it. Thanks for showing it.
I recomended this to you a couple of months ago, glad you like it,for something similiar Norupo is good.Tenet off the new album is very trancelike with a very deep backstory/history.
I can see that there's some things they can do in a music video that would be... difficult... live. Still the live videos have a primal power all their own.
Asja is one of their best songs. I listend to them all time to lift my soul when im down. The band said they dont do concerts the preform rituals and the audience is apart of them.
@Rayactions I'm so glad you reacted to Heilung. I've been listening to them for 3-4 years. and they're literally my favorite in the genere. The show Vikings got me interested into Scandanavian Folk music. I would love for you to do a reaction on Heilung | LIFA - Krigsgaldr LIVE. Her voice, the costumes, bone instruments and tribal sound still give goosebumps every time I watch it.
I was at Helung's live concert few months ago and it was just an incredible show! If you have chance, definiteli go see them live! Unfortunately this band cannot be recorded... you have to be there! I swear the atmosphere and everything... It's not just a music, It's an experience!
Heilung is STUNNING LIVE! One of the best bands I stumbled upon a few years back! Anoana in particular is one of the best music videos I have ever seen! Storytelling at its best!
Life changing advice! Take your best headphones, play this track on repeat and go for a walk in nature. Best time to do, is sunset in the summer, when most other people sit in front of their TV's and nature comes back to life. Did this every evening last summer and always had a great experience and it's perfect to calm down at the end of the day! ✌🏻
I used to play some Heilung for my baby daughter in the evening when I wanted something calm that I liked and she could fall asleep to. She's about 1 and 3/4 of a year now and this is one of the videos I sometimes play when we listenj to and watch music videos together. I really want her to expose her to a lot of different and actually good music growing up. As I saw someone else suggested, you really should react to In Maidjan from their live performance!
You dont need to apologize for not interrupting in the video. I think its a common missunderstanding in the "reacting" community to immediatly analyze something while it is playing. It is enough to see your genuine reaction towards something without the analyzing mind to really let the music speak for itself first. After its done one can give the general thoughts about it, which you did. So i would say, this is exactly how a reaction is done.
I'd highly recommend checking out the live version of In Maidjan. It was their first perfromance live as a band and shows off Maria's beautiful vocal range.
Hello from Germany! I believe it's an ancient prophecy. Anoana is the guardian of the earth and nature. Ana is the mother of all Norse gods. The language that is sung is a very old Nordic language. Greetings Nephilim
The song and video/visuals are incredible, but I want to know why the women challenges the muskox and how did it end? Her and the muskox were clearly friends when younger. I think thier battle is not literal but meant to be symbolic of something. But what? Maybe thier battle represents the struggles life throws infront of us or the ones we create for ourselves?
Here in the Finnish Laplands there are legends of Landaevittir (Land Warriors) many of them were women. They wore animals horns and bones. Landevittir scared many away but they considered themselves protectors of the Earth.
nice one. as some commenters already mentioned, i'd repeat the name of eivor. she brings out a true nordic vibe combined with the utmost brillant vocals. she carries ages and centuries in her voice. just to name some of her songs: falling free at the old theater in tórshavn, tròdlabùndin live from norway or the magnificent primal the last kingdom main theme live at hammersmith apollo
Maria Franz has been around for a decade. Apparently she had to wear antlers to finally get noticed. If you want to see her singing in English check out "The Stage" by one of her other bands, Euzen, at the 2015 Castlefest.
You should check out a band called Memphis May Fire, they have a great sound! Their songs American Dream and Somebody are two of my favorites, personally

Few days before traveling to the funeral , during and still do now , can say listening to these amazeing musicians i am slowy healing. Watched their 2017 liveshow over and over again during those first few months after. Skål 👍🏼🍻
Here's my input:
The girl was born, and as we saw, the baby had antlers from her birth.
The lyrics to this song, and their lyrics in general, are taken from inscriptions found on long-buried artifacts discovered in archeological digs.
Heilung and Ren are by far my two favorite artists of recent memory. Though sounding very different from each other, they both hit my soul the same way. I have yet to hear something from either one that I didn't love.
i have been to their show in December in Munich. A truely unique experience. If you ever have the chance to see then live you should take it by any means
watch out... another rabbit hole ahead 👆😉
Since you mentioned that you would like more suggestions for this band (Yeah, I would probably have put it here anyway).

Ray if no one has said it Heilung refers to their music as Amplified History.
Just a note. They make all their instruments themselves by hand, which you can see better in their Stage performances.
Heilung is the german word for heeling. Maybe the Sounds can heel your Soul ❤
What I read a while back when this was released and found fascinating was the stereo chanting was a protection spell they used to use to enchant the medallion she picked up in the woods. I get chills every time I watch this.
The imagery at the end, representing, taking on motherhood, is super powerful!!!
These guys have 3 albums and 1 live album, please react to more of this band!
If you ever have a chance to see them live don’t miss it. More like a spiritual/religious ceremony than a music show. Incredible.
A favorite for a long time. Reminds me of my daughter's path to growing into a strong woman. Please turn our volume up.
I saw them life last year here in belgium. I loved every second of that gig. Healed afterwards.
ive heard this song and watched the video so many times and it still stirs me to tears
Auch wenn ich das Lied schon 1000 mal gehört habe bekomme ich immernoch eine Gänsehaut. Wunderschön. Gruß aus Schleswig-Holstein.
The best part of watching heilung reactions .. is simply watching the expressions on peoples faces as they have a million questions .. they wonder.. they travel.. they feel.
It´s crazy how this makes me cry over and over again. I can´t explain it really and I don´t feel this on any other music I´ve listened to
You’ve gotta see their first ever but epic live concert LIFA live at Castlefest.
In Maidjan

This video was the first time I heard Heilung and I was floored. Huge fan now.
YEEEEESSSSS FINALLYYYYYYYY !!!
Thank you for dipping into some sweet cultural juice!
i am a grown man and everytime i hear this song i start to cry.
underrated for sure.
❤😊😮. More plz Heilung is amazing and beautiful. And great video raya 😊❤.
I love this music video, it feels like an awesome short movie

Seeing Heilung live is an experience. If you ever get a chance I highly recommend it.
Lots of the imagery they use it all round where i live in Scotland lots of pictish designs on rocks everywhere
I saw them live in March , phenomenal
The song is a celebration of circle of life, death and unity with everything.
I recomended this to you a couple of months ago, glad you like it,for something similiar Norupo is good.Tenet off the new album is very trancelike with a very deep backstory/history.
I can see that there's some things they can do in a music video that would be... difficult... live. Still the live videos have a primal power all their own.
Heilung - In Maidjan. It's pure magic. This group... really captures the primal nature still in humanity. It feels like home.
This genuine interpreting, is the closest ever attempt to our scandinavian old norse mythology, the beauty in this is mindblowing...
Oh, you found yourself something very special in Heilung. For some really expressive vocals: ''In Maidjan'' from the Lifa-Concert.
Try Krigsgaldr, it will blow your mind !! (1st the official video and then go for their live version)
"Landawariar Anoana" The reprise as a nursery rhyme was electrifying.
Little Anoana has gunfighter eyes.
German through and through...erath bond....heaven made
I used to play some Heilung for my baby daughter in the evening when I wanted something calm that I liked and she could fall asleep to.
For more of Maria Franz and her beautiful voice, please check out Euzen (Phobia is one of my personal favorites), as well as more songs from Heilung.
Mentioned in comments , her totem animal, so returning/transitioning.

Their songs American Dream and Somebody are two of my favorites, personally
love your reactions and your very pretty
I love watching the Heilung reactions bc if you react to it without like 2000 pages of Nordic history read it bamboozels everyone
Everytime I hear this song it makes me feel as if a god is being born it brings me back to the great spirits to an ancient world
I saw Heilung live in London this year, it was nothing short of phenomenal.
"We're going to deep dive into this one and see what's going on...." and me here thinking, "She has no idea what's coming next."
