i: The lyrics for this piece are mainly taken from bracteates: golden, circular coins or amulets found in Northern Europe that date from the 4th to 7th centuries CE. They are often fitted with a decorated rim and loop, which indicates that they were meant to be worn and perhaps provide protection, fulfil wishes or for divination.
The bracteates feature a very significant iconography influenced by Roman coinage. They were predominantly made from Roman gold, which was given to the North Germanic peoples as peace money.
In Anoana, the listener has the chance to delve into a collection of likely encoded spells from the Migration Period and get a touch of magic from the Dark Ages.
The intention of the piece is to playfully reconnect to an incantational language of a period where the North was richer in gold than any other region. Our forefathers presumably enjoyed a time of great prosperity and it may make us rethink how dark these ages real
Above the sign on the womb of the giving birth mother is probably a painted version of Ægirs Hjelm/Aegishjalmur/Ægishjálmr ("Ægir's Helmet"), which is a symbol described in the Poetic Edda as a symbol of ultimate protection, physical, mental and spiritual referred to as protection against all kinds of fear "Ægir/Ægi" means "Sea" in both dialects of Old Norse and is also the name of the personification of the sea. "Ægir's Gate", describes the eddies that drag ships to the bottom of the sea. Ægir / Ægi has often been described as an old man with a long white beard, and to see him standing still in the water was a bad omen, as he surfaced to drag people and ships to the bottom of the ocean. Ægirs Hjelm is described in the Poetic Edda in a stanza with a shape-shifting dragon, Fafner, whose blood is poisonous. The dragon guards a treasure and, with the help of Ægirs Hjelm's spell, is invincible. In The Galdrabók, the symbol is also described as something "you wear on your forehead, between your eyebrows"). In any case, this must be taken with tweezers since it may be wrong.
About the solar eclipse perhaps these images would be connected with the symbol of the black sun. For the ancients, the sun was the source of life, as it provided them with heat and energy. The lack of him was just the opposite. For the ancient peoples, it seems that the periodicity and continuity of day and night made us think not only of the existence of 1 sun, but of two suns, one bright and luminous and the other black. One represented life and the other death. This could be translated as the balance between light and dark and its connection to the world of the dead and the living. In it, the dawn of the day was interpreted as the rebirth of life and its renewal. That is why eclipses were so important for all primitive and ancient cultures: When the sun disappeared in broad daylight, they predicted that eclipses would bring about great changes, or that even in the worst case, the world could come to an end.
    This is the original letter:

The language is proto-norse. The language that the people living in scandinavia during the migration periode spoke in.Pre-viking era. The only words of Anoana's handwriting that are known with certainty is Landawariar (Protector of the land)

The band only had one coin that they knew the translation to and that translation is "protector of the land". Maria did a vid talking about this. Anoana is a name that one of her singers is named after....maybe middle name i believe.

I immediately thought "Vikings" when this opened up. After reading the comments on here, I am satisfied with my initial assumption. Beautiful, mesmerizing, artistic and once again, I've been introduced to something that I plan to dive deeper into. The Vikings intro song "If I had a Heart" - That song lived in my head, rent free, for the duration of the Vikings series. I would wake up with the song in my head. It is satisfying/exciting to watch someone give an analysis/reaction to a song that I've loved for over the years and to see the appreciation and excitement in their eyes is as close to hearing that song for the first time again. It is equally satisfying and exciting to be introduced to new music for the first time, as well. I subscribed to you for both of these reasons. Long comment, I know but hey, sometimes these are required! ;) Hope this comment finds you after 9 months of it being posted!

Thank you Anna for your reaction and little analysis to Heilung. I always love when 'vocal coach Anna' shows how certain sounds/voices are made.
Since I listened to this band I'm pretty sure I must have sent you a suggestion or two to give them a listen because it's so mesmerizing and unique what they can produce with mostly human voices and 'primitive' instruments.

Cool song and great reaction/analysis. This is probably the best Heilung song to date and as Heilung is best experienced live, I cannot wait to see it performed live. The whole album is actually quite great although I think their previous album was better. The previous album didn't have such a bangers like Anoana, but I think it was more even and had more power. With Drif I fell off the track a bit after the first 4 tracks, but I still think it is worth to listen if you have time.
As for which movie Heilung's music would fit, I think it would fit any epic fantasy film that is set in primal times. Most of their songs a very theatrical, some you even cannot call songs as they are just storytelling or conversations with some background sounds like wind, animal sounds, just campfire cracking, everyday sounds of an ancient village or epic battle sounds. They can produce very effective and interesting soundscape for sure.
If you enjoyed this kind of music, then I might suggest you to listen such a Siberian band as Nytt Land. I think their sound is even more primal sounding than Heilung's.
BTW according to Heilung's members Heilung is pronounced as Hailung. Metal Injection did a great video named Proper Band Name Pronunciations By The Artist Themselves and luckily Heilung is the first band (ruclips.net/video/iqMZBRmskrM/видео.html) And if you ever decide to check out Nytt Land, then bear in mind that their name is not pronounced like your Finnish instincts will tell you 😀

I thought of another couple of songs you could react to in the future. 😁 "You Are Not" by Young Guns and "Ghost" by Saint Asonia. Gustav and Adam (the respective singers) both have amazing voices.

It may be a cop out, but the movie this would go best with is one that hasn't been made yet, but hopefully will someday, when I finish writing the book it would be based off of, as I currently have a project that tells the stories of Celtic mythology and its sequel will delve into Norse mythology, so either of them would really take to this song well. I know when I write them this will be one of the songs playing in my head and in my earphones. I have even already taken bits and pieces of the video and gotten very nice ideas from them for other stories as well.

5:25 They actually made music for the game Senua's Saga: Hellblade II which is a second part of game based on Celtic age. And their music is also used in the Vikings series, which fits like nenä to päähän.

This would have been a great song for something like The Revenant or The Northman, or even the classic "Stalker"
The herd calling part with delay and echo(?) followed by the dry, small lullaby part
These guys for sure know what they're doing
This is my favourite song/composition from them followed closely by "In Madjan"

First, please excuse such long comment which might better suit to a „Patreon“ than here, but seems you have none (yet). However, I’d like to express my deep thanks in a regard that - surely not only in my mind - deserves being mentioned. Probably most of us have kind of a „musical comfort zone“ even though we easily cross genre-borders. Some kinds of music do not appear often on the air-waives or may need some special „care and mood“ to actively listen, understand and appreciate than others. This song and recent „Given Up / Chester Bennington“ for example might by allocated into that category. But - again imo - that what’s so incredible with your reactions which just open doors for better understanding, giving appropriate respect and appreciation to artists and their music one might have not discovered or rather ignored otherwise. To me this makes you and your channel equally precious as your so kind attitude, that unique and charming Finnish/English combination, and the genuine empathy expressed in body-language and facial expressions. Or in short what to me is „The Anna Way“. Since I first watched reaction videos this „business“ kind of exploded into a wide quality-range. To me your channel - and community ! - belongs to the top-tier of this huge field. Thank you for broadening my musical horizon and providing so many hours of fun and informational pleasure. Stay well and happy !
P.S. NOT suggestions ! I’m aware that your time is very limited with all you do and you already get loads of requests for reactions. So, only a few songs that - perhaps - might give you a little impression of my personal likings that have meanwhile grown thanks to the „Anna Way“ reactions. Of cause you don’t have to watch !
One re-gained sad actuality recently, one is a young girl paying tribute to her late beloved Grandma, one shows a still going strong artist whom you already had on your channel, one combines a Norwegian „elf“ with a hero of my youth. Besides, in my understanding „Ei kukaan muu“ is one of the deerest examples to express family, love, friendship and caring. Again, I apologize for being to lengthy ! ruclips.net/video/jhdFe3evXpk/видео.html ruclips.net/video/GcAOAxQNono/видео.html ruclips.net/video/-aPARDwf2ug/видео.html ruclips.net/video/kJ095S0MmnA/видео.html
