So the poses they are striking are called stadh and they physically represent the runes they are singing about. Stadh forms coupled with galdr (spoken chants invoking rune sounds) are elements of rune magic.

This song is based on the Norwegian Runic Poem, which, as in the Icelandic Runic Poem, names all the runes of the young futhark accompanied by a stanza alluding to the name of each of the runes. There is also a third Runic Poem: the Anglo-Saxon. Runic poems are believed to have served as a mnemonic tool for remembering the names of the runes and their order in the alphabet. It is an important compilation of popular culture of the time, comparable to old English sayings, Gnomonic poetry, and Old Norse poetry. The Norwegian runic poem, written in Old Norse, has been preserved in a 17th century copy of a destroyed 13th century manuscript. This poem appears in skaldic meter. And it has the following structure: The first line of each stanza is a phrase of the following type: "name of the rune + copula + X", where X is an attribute to the name of the rune, followed by a second rhymed line that provides some information somehow related to the previous sentence.
In this poem and in Icelandic, all the runes of the young futhark appear in the same order. The names of the 16 runes and their order is as follows:
Fé, Úr, Þurs, Óss, Ræið, Kaun, Hagall, Nauðr, Ís, Ár, Sól, Týr, Bjarkan, Maðr, Lögr, Ýr
ᚠ - Wealth causes dispute between relatives. The wolf inhabits the forest.
ᚢ - All dross comes from bad iron. Reindeer often run on frozen snow.
ᚦ - A troll causes disease in women. Few men find joy in misfortune.
ᚬ - The end of the river is the path for most trips. And a scabbard is the fate of swords.
ᚱ - It is said that riding is the worst for the horse. Reginn forged the best sword.
ᚴ - The ulcer is a curse for children. Death makes a man pale.
ᚼ - Hail is the coldest grain. Kristr created the world of yesteryear.
ᚾ - Anguish leaves little choice. A naked man is chilled by frost.
ᛁ - Ice we call a wide bridge. A blind man needs guidance.
ᛅ - Abundance is a blessing to men. I say that Fróde was generous.
ᛋ - The sun is the light of the world. I bow down to all that is sacred.
    ᛏ - Tyr is a one-handed god. Often a blacksmith must forge.
ᛒ - A birch has the greenest leaves. Loki forged times of deception.
ᛘ - Man is the product of dust. Strong is the claw of a hawk.
ᛚ - A waterfall is a river that falls from the mountain. All treasures are gold.
ᛦ - Yew is the greenest of winter trees. It tends to crunch when burned.
Male voice lyrics are names and words from German, Danish, Norwegian, latin and Finnish (still unconfirmed).
    Uunia runus sigurd.
    Fähig ani regina gunda.

@@killerabbit003 I couldn't be sure, because even archaeologists don't agree. There are few well-preserved written traces that can be found from the bronze and iron ages of northern Europe. @@Nidels Well I dont disagree with anything your saying or your good message.
Just want to point out that "the people of the time" didnt know the runic alphabet.
To read runes, to speak their message was a devine thing. a link between the realms of gods and men.
Only very few could do this. and those that could where held in a status above kings in some ways. ( not that there was many kings in the early age of rune writing, but still )
But nobles, earls, and such didnt learn to write runes, they where not used the same way we use the alphabet. the people didnt learn.
A few sacred people had it as part of the sacret place they had in the world of the people.

Elizabeth, I hope you get to read this. I am a newcomer to Heilung. I have not been well lately with some cardiac problems. I really thought that this Wednesday I was going to have to go to the hospital. My nephrologist who oversees my meds changed a few things and advised me to relax and try to sleep. A good friend had told me about Heilung, specifically Norupo. This song immediately grabbed me. So I downloaded the album that it came from, took some more meds, put my headphones on and laid down to listen. I think I was asleep within 20 minutes. I woke up about six hours later and felt relaxed and at peace. My blood pressure had dropped back to normal. And it has stayed that way thank God. As a drummer, I know that music can lift us up and bring us peace. And this band really lived up to their name, "Healing." Many thanks for your wonderful review of an absolutely other-worldly song.

I like how you acknowledge Kai here. While I myself had trouble with his singing style at first, and he doesn't even seem to register with many others in the shadow of Maria's incredible singing, I do believe that he really is the motor of this group. He isn't seen all that much, and it is the car's body most people would judge them by (i.e. Maria and Christopher, the primary melodic voices), he really seems to be the force that ultimately moves the thing and gives it the power it has. It is just SUCH a fortunate combination all over!

Probably my favorite song from them. Listening to Heilung for me gives chills and emotions that other music just doesn’t do.
I commented before about how I believe sometimes certain sounds in music really connect to us as if it were embedded in our DNA. For example, my family history is Germanic. Sounds and music from those times of old seem to resonate with us more than let’s say, modern music sounds. Just as people descended from other cultures tend to resonate with sounds and music from those ancient cultures more. This has led me to believe that certain sounds and music is embedded in our DNA and that’s why it resonates with us so much.

I just want you to know, that consistently you have added so much extra value to all these songs you've reacted to so far. Your perspective is a much needed breath of fresh air to those of us that enjoy watching multiple reactions to certain songs. Thank you also for your genuine enthusiasm you display to music formerly outside of your comfort zone. It seems like you embrace new material where others fake their enjoyment for likes.

I recently discovered Heilung on RUclips. My ancestry is Native American both from my mother and father. And my father's side from Nordic North Eastern France. Since most of my family has passed, I have much more time on my hands. I have been finding Native tools in creeks with inscriptions. With symbols comes music. I believe Heilung best represents that ancient music.

If you have time, watch the live version of this song because Maria makes the runes as she is singing about them. Like Fehu she makes the figure that represents that rune with her body (sorry if my English is bad, it is not my first language)

I will be there in Colorado, too! I saw them January 17, 2019 at the Ogden Theater, it was an amazing experience! I met Maria and Christopher, and a supporting vocalist, Annicke before the ritual, what wonderful and kind people! Hopefully, you’ll enjoy the experience in Colorado! Nothing like it! Love your genuine passion and your expressions of joy in these videos!

and i'd love to hear more wardruna! they have a couple of awesome new songs like "lyfjaberg" and "kvitravn", both of which do a great job showing off the vocals of einar selvik and lindy fay-hella.

13:00 I love Heilung, and seeing that freeze frame of Maria gave me the sudden revelation, "Oh, that's why all of the ancient art was like that."
I'd be curious to know how much of their posing and costuming was based off of old reliefs, and how much of the reliefs were pointed towards real aesthetic.
I can so easily visualize the aesthetic of Heilung in the past that I'd be shocked if it wasn't at least close.
EDIT: I should say that the way that shot was constructed actually makes the world around her seem to form a sort of two dimensional artistic framing, like the carved reliefs themselves. The distortion above her head and over her shoulders is incredible.

✨ That would be awesome, the singer Caro Tanghe's is absollutely unique! She can do both high-pitched, almost blackmetal-like screams and then switch to super soft, melodic and vulnerable clean vocals.
But I would actually recommend the Official Video instead, the quality is much better with less noise distracting from the vocals.

Awesome reaction! While there is definitely some layering going on, it's always important to remember that because throat singing by default creates multiple pitches simultaneously you can cover alot of sonic space by yourself and sometimes sound like you've layered separate sounds when they're actually being made by one person concurrently.
