Welcome to the "Brotherhood of the Blown Away." I've followed Heilung for several years and was wondering where they might go next. Hi from germany, you have to go very deep in to nordic and germanic history, its about the reborn god of nature (the child) its about the conection to nature we are all connected to nature. Great reaction!!! Heilung considers themselves to be a tribe and their fans brothers and sisters
Great reaction, you really open yourself to all these impressions. Can I just add some points that are important in seeing this? The most important being that the child is born under an eclipse (seen in background several times). After the birth you see a circular path of darkness which is one of the possible destinies for the child, and it scares the mother. According to previking believes they (those born under eclipses) had very special gifts: hamnskifte (= the ability to change appearance), age shift, talking to animals, healing (of the bird) etc The previking time and it's religion in nordic countries is much more female oriented than the religion in the later years (viking gods like Tor and Oden... ). Also healing = heilung in the german name of the band. They sing in a reconstructed version of the previking proto norse language.... The bracteates are the starting point for this tale, because they are one of the few "written" recordings of this language. But Sweden and Norway are full of drawings (hällristningar = rock carvings) as memory of them. Example en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Carvings_in_Tanum Both from older bronze age age from stone age. The runes at the end read out "ANOANA" and the are in the oldest of the runic alphabetes (Elder futhark)
Thats what music about, let people heal from the inner not necessary to understand the surface. Its the deep message thats when its done right, arrives everyone
"Heilung" is the German word for healing/cure. You should really experience this band in their full live sets because they are telling a spiritual shamanic story in their live shows, actually wanting you to experience it as a spiritual journey and cure. But reacting to such a live show would be rather lengthy, so maybe first pick a few single songs from their great LIFA live show (available from their official YT channel). Especially pay attention to how well their main singer can control her voice, and how they combine voices and instruments. Heilung is singing in different languages, sometimes combining different languages in the same song, has German/Danish/Norwegian roots, and sings in German, Latin, old Norse dialects, old Germanic, modern English, and probably some more old languages of historic pagan and viking influenced Europe.
The lyrics for this piece are mainly taken from bracteates: golden, circular coins or amulets found in Northern Europe that date from the 4th to 7th centuries CE. They are often fitted with a decorated rim and loop, which indicates that they were meant to be worn and perhaps provide protection, fulfil wishes or for divination. The bracteates feature a very significant iconography influenced by Roman coinage. They were predominantly made from Roman gold, which was given to the North Germanic peoples as peace money. In Anoana, the listener has the chance to delve into a collection of likely encoded spells from the Migration Period and get a touch of magic from the Dark Ages. The intention of the piece is to playfully reconnect to an incantational language of a period where the North was richer in gold than any other region. Our forefathers presumably enjoyed a time of great prosperity and it may make us rethink how dark these ages really were.
Coming from a non- historian, I think the main reason they were called the dark ages is because of Christianity. This was a time when shamanic, tribal groups still dominated Europe who were viewed as being in "the dark" by the Christians who were in "the light".

Amazing reaction my friend Evy!!....In 2017, the music world was shocked by the bursting onto the scene of a 22-year-old singer named Dimash Kudaibergen, who performed on the famous Chinese competition show for professional singers called “The Singer”... It was just It was necessary for this young man to make his first appearance, making a cover of one of the most difficult songs in the world, a famous French composition called "S.O.S. D'un Terrien En Détresse", to be considered from that moment on as the best singer in the entire planet....No one in the musical field had ever seen a human being, being able to reach vocal ranges above 7 octaves and several semitones, that is, all 88 keys of a digital piano, which reaches a little more than 7 octaves and as if that weren't enough, sing the more than 12 languages...Since then all kinds of experts (Vocal coach, analysts, singing teachers, youtubers, reactors, etc.) have dedicated themselves to reviewing their presentations to try to understand how someone can sing this way...The incredible thing is that that presentation in China was in 2017 and 5 years have passed since then, but what Dimash has done in these 5 years is to further improve his wide vocal range, which is currently practically above of the 8 octaves... The Covid pandemic stopped his concerts worldwide, all with tickets sold in just seconds, via the internet, but at the same time it ended up catapulting him to the top of popularity worldwide...Anyway, since I think you are one of those reactors who have not yet met this impressive singer, here is the link of that presentation in China in 2017, with the song S.O.S. and I would like you to mention my name as the person who recommended him to you...You have to be prepared because you ar going to receive an avalanche of views, comments and new subscribers....I leave you one more recent video than the others, so it does not have the same number of views as the previous ones, which have millions of views, but it is a more complete video, with an intro, subtitles in several languages and with the improved quality of audio and sound....ruclips.net/video/bDX3FhmyNac/видео.html
Omg, It I didn't know better and the fact your a female 🤣 I would almost swear that video was myself when I was first blown completely away by their music. They are my go to when I take psilocybin. The whole concert "Lifa" was amazing and when you watch it remember that this was their first time onstage. Kai Faust is everything rough in the group while sweet Maria is what escorts the beauty through the lyrics. It's been 9 days and I specifically subscribed just to watch your Heilung reactions but alas, nothing yet. I hope you might check out Wardruna, especially the song "Helvegan" live with Aurora, it's truly something special.
A bit of facts about Heilung (as requested): * "Heilung" is a German word which means "healing" * The group was founded in Copenhagen (Denmark) but the members are international (Danish, German, Norwegian) * They sing in multiple languages, many old and extinct, such as Old Norse and Old High German. Even Scandinavians and Germans can't understand much of what they sing. Not even if we read the lyrics * Maria and Christian also participate in two other acts: Euzen and Songlikr. * This song, Anoana, is based on (incomplete) interpretations of coins from before The Viking Age And most importantly: It's possible to see them live. They tour quite a bit for a folk music band
Definitely check out the live version of In Maidjan and Alfadhirhaiti. One of those rare occasions where I think the live version sounds better than the album version.
hi and welcome to the world of Heilung it is a beautiful place indeed this song is from the third albumn the group members are from Denmark Gemany and Norway this is the first release of the albumn that comes out on the 16th or 19 of this month which I cant wait for the band said that this is like the first part of Anoana and the story will continue on the albumn how we dont know yet. thier first 2 albumns are fantastic all of the instruments and the clothes they wear they made as well. for now if you want another song to react to I would suggest something like 'in maidjan" or maybe "Krigsgaldr" they would be a good place to start. the name of the band means cure or healing depending on where in Europe your from . this should be enough to get you going for now welcome in and enjoy it.
I saw Heilung live in 2018 at Wacken Festival. I didn´t know anything about the band. I loved the promo picture, was fascinated by those tribal costumes and thought "Let´s give them a try." What i witnessed was so ancient, so fascinating, so pute. Music from a time where even notes weren´t invented yet. The whole show was like an old ritual you probably would have seen in a driud circle 2500 years ago. This is so ancient and pagan it´s not meant for human eyes and ears. If you ever have the chance to see them live. Do it. don´t hestitate.
My favourite song so far used to be "Krigsgaldr" - especially this live performance ruclips.net/video/QRg_8NNPTD8/видео.html at the Castlefest in the Netherlands.
They just dropped the 13 minute epic “Tenet” yesterday. Totally blown away by the lyrical and melodic palindromes in their newest offering! I can’t wait for the full album on the 19th!
*taken from Wikimedia* they've also classified their music a amplified history Heilung was founded in 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark by vocalist Kai Uwe Faust (a German tattoo artist who specializes in Old Norse tattoos) and Danish producer Christopher Juul.[1] Juul, who'd operated his own recording studio, Lava, in Copenhagen since 2003, admired Faust's visual work as a tattoo artist, so they struck a deal: Faust offered Juul some free tattoos in exchange for help recording some poems. Thus Heilung was started. Later in 2015 Maria Franz (Juul's longtime girlfriend and a singer in progressive rock/pop-rock band Euzen in which Juul also played piano and electronics) started to work with Heilung - originally as a session vocalist. In 2015, the band self-released their debut album, Ofnir, and soon after that Maria Franz became the band's third official member. The band's first performances in 2017 were at Castlefest and at the Midgardsblot Metalfestival. The Castlefest performance was recorded and released with the title Lifa on RUclips and as a live album.[5] Their 2017 performance at Midgardsblot was listed by Metal Hammer[6] as one of the ten best performances of 2017. Later that year, the band signed a contract with the label Season of Mist. On 20 April 2018, the two previously self-released albums Ofnir and Lifa were reissued on vinyl and CD.[7][3] The band will compose the soundtrack for Senua's Saga: Hellblade II.[8] Fragments of Heilung's music were used during season six of the popular television series Vikings.
The song tells the story of a girl born on a lunar eclipse. This is a sign in Nordic ancient culture , that she will become a shaman with shape shifting ability. As she grows up you see her discovering her animal form. The final scene may depict her morphing into her animal form to travel in the spirit world . Her song sung at birth and 7:20 through her life is the guidance from the spirit world for the trajectory of her life
To explain a little where you can classify "Heilung"( it means "Healing"): The music of Heilung should make "sounds and sounds of bygone times" come alive again and bring you in contact with your "inner healed self". This is not only limited to the music, but also to the poems contained. The languages used are diverse: from German and English to Gothic and Latin to proto-Norse. As a further stylistic device, the band members wear elaborately designed traditional costumes on stage. They are partly based on the "spiritual traditions of the Eurasian circumpolar peoples" or reproduce historically correct images of Viking Age clothing. Heilung describe their music as "amplified history". You can take that literally. On the stage of the German-Danish collective you will find human bones converted into instruments, ancient drums, bronze rings and sometimes entire armies armed with shields and swords based on the material of the Iron and Viking Age. Because some Misguided see music about ancient times and the use of Nordic symbolism as an invitation to missionary, nationalistic and right-wing extremist ideas, Heilung emphasizes that their art is independent of modern political and religious systems. Any attempt to make a connection is "pointless" as Heilung "tries to connect the listener to the time before Christianity and its political offspring raped and burned their way into the Northern European mentality."
so difficult to collect my thoughts....I am amazed, frightened, hopeful, feeling mortal, wanting to pray to some deity........I believe these are the emotions Maria and the band hope to elicit from the audience.........I can imagine these are EXACTLY the sounds made by pre-Christian Norse shaman, priests and warriors......I believe the language is an imagined proto-Germanic dialect.....note that the ritual takes place under an eclipse in the sky.......I like to think the ending shows Anoana merging with the ox in a perpetuation of nature in the circle of life....they make their costumes and instruments.......
I loved the Celtic/Norsk vibe in this one. Wondering a bit what the idea was behind it. Another great fox 🦊 reaction and discovery to add to my playlist 😊
This band is fascinating in that sense. Alot of their songs are based off of texts from ancient artifacts, rune poems, spells, etc... we're talking really ancient historical stuff. Check out heilung live in lifa. They're live performance is more like a ritual than a concert. It's a beautiful experience for sure.

No. All of their instruments are not made out of human bones. Most of their instruments are made by hand and of authentic materials for instance hide drums and leather costumes .....I have heard that the decoration on one of the skin drums includes blood from all of the "band" members ... Maria has two human bones that she uses as percussive elements at times. I put band in quotes as the group themselves refer to their performances as rituals and consider them a more spiritual experience and I hardly think "band" covers what they do.
"All their instruments are made out of human bones" exaggerated and incorrect. There is one human forearm bone, a number of animal bones (mostly deer) and the drums certainly aren't made from human bones.

I first heard them when I saw season 1 of Ragnarok on Netflix. There's a small snippet of one of their songs in the last episode of season 1.
Heilung is like a mind altering drug. I'm hooked.
Yes watch their 1st live performance Lifa Full show...mind blowing, youre welcome.
Hamrer Hippyer, Norupo and Krigsgaldr are some of my favorite songs of Heilung, but I think that Traust is the best song at this time (for me ^^)
You should check Heilung Krigsgaldr live (LIFA).
Absolutely 👍🤘
One of my absolutely favorite Song from Heilung 🥰 (Lifa Live Version)
Greets from Germany
It's so nice to see you discovered heilung. You're in for a treat when you dig deeper into their music. I lurk around for a while, and you're very clever. Can't wait to hear your take on heilungs art.
Heilung's rituals brings peace in a world that is so desperate to take it away.
There is no doubt that many people who never knew peace in their lives have found it for the very first time.
Thank you for the review and be safe out there fellow wanderers...... Frostproof,FL.
There rituals are spectacular and Heilung make you feel part of the ritual, as we are all brothers and sisters together as one family
The Covid pandemic stopped his concerts worldwide, all with tickets sold in just seconds, via the internet, but at the same time it ended up catapulting him to the top of popularity worldwide...Anyway, since I think you are one of those reactors who have not yet met this impressive singer, here is the link of that presentation in China in 2017, with the song S.O.S. and I would like you to mention my name as the person who recommended him to you...You have to be prepared because you ar going to receive an avalanche of views, comments and new subscribers....I leave you one more recent video than the others, so it does not have the same number of views as the previous ones, which have millions of views, but it is a more complete video, with an intro, subtitles in several languages and with the improved quality of audio and sound....ruclips.net/video/bDX3FhmyNac/видео.html
happy to know you found a new band,
i was there when they releasad the first album, there songs are on nr.1 played list every year on my spotify
Check out their full concert from beginning, til the end... Its a unbelievable journey...
ruclips.net/video/h1BsKIP4uYM/видео.html
Check out their other performances (e.g. LIFA concert), you won't be disappointed by any of them if you enjoyed this one. They are spectacular.
Maria Franz has been around for more than ten years. Check out the 2015 live performance of "The Stage" by one of her other bands, Euzen.
A bit of facts about Heilung (as requested):
* "Heilung" is a German word which means "healing"
* The group was founded in Copenhagen (Denmark) but the members are international (Danish, German, Norwegian)
* They sing in multiple languages, many old and extinct, such as Old Norse and Old High German. Even Scandinavians and Germans can't understand much of what they sing. Not even if we read the lyrics
* Maria and Christian also participate in two other acts: Euzen and Songlikr.
* This song, Anoana, is based on (incomplete) interpretations of coins from before The Viking Age
And most importantly: It's possible to see them live.
I loved the promo picture, was fascinated by those tribal costumes and thought "Let´s give them a try."
What i witnessed was so ancient, so fascinating, so pute.
An elder will not hesitate to find the meaning of life upon an infant. Those who take their place in the beginning will find the end.
If you ever get a chance to see them live, please do. They are incredible.
The Alcatraz live shows is awesome definitely worth checking out!
My favourite song so far used to be "Krigsgaldr" - especially this live performance ruclips.net/video/QRg_8NNPTD8/видео.html at the Castlefest in the Netherlands.
Their newest drop Asja is really intense!
I didn't know they had released this, just checked it out. Holy shit!
@@bigjohnsbigmetalshow18 We got another new one today. Tenet
They just dropped the 13 minute epic “Tenet” yesterday. Totally blown away by the lyrical and melodic palindromes in their newest offering! I can’t wait for the full album on the 19th!
@@bigjohnsbigmetalshow18 Just music, no video... sadly...
there is such a great live version available and all listen the normal video...
*taken from Wikimedia* they've also classified their music a amplified history
Heilung was founded in 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark by vocalist Kai Uwe Faust (a German tattoo artist who specializes in Old Norse tattoos) and Danish producer Christopher Juul.[1] Juul, who'd operated his own recording studio, Lava, in Copenhagen since 2003, admired Faust's visual work as a tattoo artist, so they struck a deal: Faust offered Juul some free tattoos in exchange for help recording some poems.
On 20 April 2018, the two previously self-released albums Ofnir and Lifa were reissued on vinyl and CD.[7][3]
The band will compose the soundtrack for Senua's Saga: Hellblade II.[8]
Fragments of Heilung's music were used during season six of the popular television series Vikings.
You got it ❤️❤️❤️
The song tells the story of a girl born on a lunar eclipse. This is a sign in Nordic ancient culture , that she will become a shaman with shape shifting ability. As she grows up you see her discovering her animal form. The final scene may depict her morphing into her animal form to travel in the spirit world . Her song sung at birth and 7:20 through her life is the guidance from the spirit world for the trajectory of her life
Glad you finnaly ( ? ) found them. But plaes check the live shows, mesmerazing!!
To explain a little where you can classify "Heilung"( it means "Healing"):
The music of Heilung should make "sounds and sounds of bygone times" come alive again and bring you in contact with your "inner healed self".
On the stage of the German-Danish collective you will find
human bones converted into instruments, ancient drums, bronze rings and sometimes entire armies armed with shields and swords based
on the material of the Iron and Viking Age.
Because some Misguided see music about ancient times and the use of Nordic symbolism as an invitation to missionary, nationalistic
and right-wing extremist ideas, Heilung emphasizes that their art is independent of modern political and religious systems. Any attempt to
make a connection is "pointless" as Heilung "tries to connect the listener to the time before Christianity and its political offspring
raped and burned their way into the Northern European mentality."
It’s not just German & Danish, the singer Maria, is Norwegian

so difficult to collect my thoughts....I am amazed, frightened, hopeful, feeling mortal, wanting to pray to some deity........I believe these are the emotions Maria and the band hope to elicit from the audience.........I can imagine these are EXACTLY the sounds made by pre-Christian Norse shaman, priests and warriors......I believe the language is an imagined proto-Germanic dialect.....note that the ritual takes place under an eclipse in the sky.......I like to think the ending shows Anoana merging with the ox in a perpetuation of nature in the circle of life....they make their costumes and instruments.......
I’m here because I love heilung and in love with Maria
I've heard that Heilung will be in Wacken 2023.
Castle Fest 2017. On Hi-Def, if you can. You will NOT regret it.
All of Heilung's shows are rituals not concerts.
Thank you for pronouncing their name correctly.
Nidels, we need your help here...
They're performing near me at the end of august and tickets are ridiculously expensive. Like $150-$450 dollars expensive 😢
Oh wow thats alot of money!
🙏👍🫶
I loved the Celtic/Norsk vibe in this one. Wondering a bit what the idea was behind it. Another great fox 🦊 reaction and discovery to add to my playlist 😊
This band is fascinating in that sense. Alot of their songs are based off of texts from ancient artifacts, rune poems, spells, etc... we're talking really ancient historical stuff. Check out heilung live in lifa. They're live performance is more like a ritual than a concert. It's a beautiful experience for sure.
Germanic, not Celtic :)
My girl lips!❤
You just need to lie down relaxed, close your eyes and just listen to their music.... I can completely switch off!
Run from skald
run from patty gurdy
Both beautifull songs
Same song but performed live:

Woman power done right.
Now do Wardruna's Healing Mountain video
No... only Maria has ONE instrument made from human bones.😄
Anoana means Mother Earth
Unless there has been a translation made since, then the members of Heilung seem to disagree with you.
HEILUNG - "Anoana" - Behind the Music: ruclips.net/video/dlp_ksxQpbY/видео.html
I.e. if Anoana is an actual word and not just a name, then the translation is unknown, according to the video.
Great song. But why are you looking over to your left all the time? Seems like you're missing the beautiful video.
Look at the Video... not at the Chat etc...🙄
I dont have a chat? 😅
I HAVE to ask. Were you looking at 2 different angles of the video OR did you constantly have to look at how you appeared because you seemed to miss a lot that happened in the video. I couldn't miss that you constantly kept switching looking between 2 screens and you kept fixing your hair! If you were checking how you looked constantly you should just look in a mirror all day long!!
Lol, i have 2 screens, video is on both screens. I usually livestream and used to check the 2 screens constantly. I dont care how i look. You're not asking, you're just judging and being rude.
@@EvyTheFox Absolutely not being RUDE! I couldn't understand how you were apparently missing so much that happened in the video. EVERY other reactor noticed and had obvious responses to a lot of things that took place in the video, yet you never seemed to. Almost all of us women respond to childbirth and a bird coming to life, yet you never had an obvious response to anything. I figured either your focus was lost by switching between 2 screens or that you WERE looking at 1 screen for the video and another to check how you looked. I guess I worded my Reply the wrong way so I am SORRY you misunderstood. 😉😉👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠❤❤❤❤💜💜
their instruments are not made of human bones.... but from many natural items used in the pre iron age.....to come correct some of their instruments are made of bone animal skin and even a shaker full of human teeth
Hallo Evy 🦊 !
There is one human forearm bone, a number of animal bones (mostly deer) and the drums certainly aren't made from human bones.
not really a band, way more than that
