Ahh, Aerie... You were my first RPG romance. I rescued you, nurtured you, then came to rely on you as much as you relied on me. There was nothing I would deny you, my love. Yet even after all these years, I still refuse to allow you to name our son "Quayle". XD
I love this romance, just because it has such a happy outcome. They have children, they adventure together, and even get married. What more could you ask, really?
Aerie was whiny in BG2 no doubt(although I never ahd the visceral reaction that some did apperently). But her romance in ToB is just so wonderful. The best ending out of them all. She is so happy when you choose her (and the baby) over Godhood. I nearly cry every time.
Chikita Fastpaws should have made an appearance at the wedding as well! My character romanced Aerie (a half-elven ranger named Calladin, who I had c arried from BG1 and Sword coast through BG2 and ToB, over the course of 5 years, from when I first got BG1 until I was a nuclear operator in the Navy. Loved that character!) She started off annoying, but really grew on me by the end. Her ending was really a wonderful epilogue to my ranger's life. Totally teared up to her reaction when he stayed
I always played these games with just one character and I've played them so many times. I've very tempted to pull out those old CDs and revisit these games just to play with the NPCs, even if their stats suck.
Man I tend to think that way about Viconia. I'm playing BG II again and that "little extra" suddenly became too much and I'm thinking to myself "Man simmer down, it's just a game!"
I've been playing RPGs since Ultima games - back when I could hardly read - and Baldur's Gate was one of those that set standarts for other games. People talk about Skyrim: sure, it has fancy bling bling, but it is nowhere near as epic as modern day hype-fanboys claim it to be. Those same people see games like Baldur's Gate and are like "dude that haz shit graphiks! who can play that shit!" - games had soul back then, even if they aren't visually impressive today. Skyrim doesn't have that spirit
Although The Avariel has devoted her life to honoring both The Winged Mother and The Masked Leaf, one need only gaze upon her wide-eyed countenance to know that she was blessed by Lady Goldheart.
Aerie was my favorite. Jaheira and Viconia never seemed to really grow character-wise nearly as much as she did. People who complain about her whininess obviously never made it past the first 20 hours of gameplay to find out that she's worth the time and effort you put into her, and she really did mature as a person... wait... I mean bunch of code in a computer game. Did I really waste my youth thinking about this stuff? Answer: Not at all. It was worth it.
I understand that it takes a long time for Aerie to get the Time Stop, that's why I included the scroll, even though they're costly. If a perfect Harm is cast, the enemy will be rendered to just one hitpoint and I've always been lucky enough to hit a dragon with instant spells like Magic Missiles.
You know before I played this game romance in a video game meant very little to me but as i played this game romance in video games began to grow on me till I very much enjoy it
@Captbigbeard She will with the Throne of Bhaal expansion. She seems to have got a bit of backbone (and she chews hard at Irenicus). She will insult Korgan back and Korgan will (strangely) start to respect her.
@mrchuckmorris I think "Ralph Baski's: Wizards" comes into play here, never really cared about those silly characters until I actually was old enough to pay attention to "Avatar and Elinore". then I found them quite touching.
That's pretty much how I killed Firkraag too. I also had Imoen and Nalia with me at the time (and my own PC was a fighter mage) and by that time at least one of them had enough mage levels to memorize and case Death Fog as well.
I agree. The gameplay hasn't weathered well to be honest, but taking my character all the way from BG1 through ToB is a gaming experience I will never forget. I fell in love with the characters from these games in I way I haven't done until perhaps the Mass Effect series. Finishing ToB and reading these epilogues brought some real tearful smiles, like parting with great old friends. It was then that I knew how good a game COULD be. Graphics aside, Skyrim is soulless trash by comparison.
Aerie was by far my favourite romance character. Jahiera seemed a little too controlling. I loved her voice aswell, 'twas cute (: Anyway, thanks for posting this!
Yes, she is. But it's bloody hard to make it happen because it's on a long real time timer during the expansion, so you can't just rest loads of times.
Ah, why do i fall in love so easily with impulsive, curious women who speak their mind, who are initially impossible but mature over time? I not only love Aerie, but i fall in love with these kinds of women in real life. I suppose i love their delightful inner nature, and truly wish for them to be happy. Although in reality i want to be happy with them as well. I guess i'm too idealistic.
I beg to differ. A high level Aerie can be quite the assassin. Time Stop (or at least scroll) + Harm + Magic Missile or sling shot = One dead dragon. I also killed Firekraag with Aerie by gassing him to death with alot of Cloudkill. As for mages, have her cast Pierce Magic and similar spells on them. Minsc can do the rest. The beholders are a pain in the ass though.
Oh GOD!!! I am playing Skyrim was about 1 week...nice game, BUT still, I got bored of it in the weekend. I can't even play it 'till I end the main story. and, in the meanwhile I remembered the BG saga (BG1, BG2, BG2:ToB) and I felt so nostagic!! I miss so good games!!! It's been a DECADE, but I still long for this game!! :(
@Aggrofool i think she´s also very useful in SoA maybe you get more destructive mages (Nalia just kills everything) and a better healer Anomen and Viconia are very good, but Anomen is always at the front with protagonist Keldorn and Minsc so i need Aerie as healer in the back. She does her damage she´s quiet good at healing and most important her romance is a challenge. you must be very careful not to loose her forever.
@mrchuckmorris ikr! first 20 hours or so i was thinking "God wont you shut up" but after that its amazing especially the conversation ToB with her being innocent. having completed the romance yet though looking forward to some amazing stuff though.
Ugh, it still bugs me that my game seemed to hate me having clerics so she decided to leave the party and never return, spitting out dialogue you get when you first meet her in the illusion place (I checked the internet to see why, and it wasn't making the wrong choice, and reloading didn't fix it) so i had to get Anomen, who then decided in the final battle to not rejoin the party after getting petrified (and de-petrified) Luckily Keldorn is awesome and using the slayer let me beat her final form (after dying alot trying to get it to work.)
If there's anyone in the game who has a sacrosanct right to "whine" it's her, I'd like to see how others would fare after being kidnapped, sold as a slave, exposed as a circus freak, and then mutilated resulting in the eternal loss of one's own family, friends, and access to their civilization in general.
when i was playing SoA i actually had to choose at one point whether i wanted aerie or jahiera (both were bitching at each other every god damn day) and i chose aerie. at first kind of regretted it until her character started developing more. When the master wraith in ToB pulled out the phantom of aerie's mother i wanted to seriously kick its ass.
Aerie annoyed the shite out of me. However, I feel strangely compelled to go back and play BG2 again with her romance now just to see the reactions of the party members to me knocking her up. I'm told that Viconia's is spectacular... "So, it appears our fearless leader has put a bun in the wingless pigeon's oven. How very manly." Korgan has a few things to say as well.
BEST ENDING! Thank you SOOO much for uploading this. I really enjoyed watching this ending when I finished the game, but I didn't copy it, so I missed it so much. I and Aerie married in the cloud peak mountain among the winged elves. Can you email me this video file?
@mrchuckmorris If some players don't suffer Aerie's whining, it's most because of a bug that made the "bew I lost my wings" speech appear again and again (and again).
@mrchuckmorris i have the bug the Jaheira romance also starts with a female Character^^ not that it bothers me but a lesbian druid is a bit crazy i think^^
@randyslicker Setting global values can mess up your game if you're not careful. I find it safer to do CLUAConsole:AdvanceRealTime ("5000") This makes the game's detection of real time advance by 5000 hours, forcing the next romance dialogue. Don't worry about going over the next one either, because the timer starts over after each dialogue. Also, Ctrl-i forces one of the random party banters. Great for seeing them all.
@mrchuckmorris here too but to my shame i have to admit i´m playing the romance for the first time without messing it up kay the last time i tried the Aerie romance i was twelve now i´m 18 so maybe i have a better feeling for the answers^^and well now they suite my old class the Paladin^^ Jaheira and Viconia romance are easy although Jaheira ast my version has the bug it also starts with a female character. any help?
@galdorp I myself is having romnace with Aerie as well and somehow i like her interaction, although we must fought for her with one of the NPC (the bard) and we might lost aerie to him if we are less of a noble spirit:)
@OppasYeobo LMAO my sister complains about the same thing. Anomen is such a smartass, conservative biggot. But then again, all the men who are playable in BG2 are either insane or dangerous and thus not interested in love... There could've been Yoshimo, maybe. But we all know why Yoshimo can't be an option! I guess Haer'Dalis or Valygar could've been good love interests...
Time Stop is really hard to get, especially when your a multi class like Aerie, you have to finish every quest in the game just to get it making her useless throughout most the game. Second, Magic Missle Slingshot? Uh yea those are useless on bigger bosses and higher creeps. So I still disagree, Aerie sits in back cast pierce magic and thats about it so I agree there.
@AshleyFTW1 yes i seriously started to like em Minsc for example if i had a buddy like this guy man that´d be cool a tough guy a funny guy and well i love Hamsters^^ And Jan is also a funny guy but well my favorite is Aerie she´s just cute
She's a downer because she has been betrayed a lot, never found anyone worth trusting... yet. I find her ending equally good as Aerie's because both have a tragic past, Aerie was captured by slavers, Viconia was persecuted because she's a drow, so being a downer doesn't make her a bad romance, for your information.
Worst part about Aerie is she was useless in major fights, against dragons, Beholders, and powerful mages. It was like I just kept her around because she was pretty.
since my 1999 PC cept crapping it's day of the week underware, I never got to this part, Norton AV and cheesy mobos kept me out of the game most of that year.(2000) never got to hit it up with the lawful good cleric/mage.
I felt compelled to take on the powers of Bhaal and to my best to bring good to the world, but what REALLY disappointed me is that Aerie's ending, if you became a god, was exactly the same as if you had never romanced her. It didn't even mention your and her child! If I were a God, I'd give her her wings back and visit her as often as possible. One lousy thing in an otherwise fantastic game. Pity it was the bit that was most important to me.
yeah, a deep personality filled to the brim with bitterness and sarcasm, to the point were only when Khalid dies does she ever seem to care about him all that much, and she is pretty quick to have an affair with the bhaal child after that incident might I add.
Aerie is a codependant brat and Viconia is a femdom drama queen. Quite frankly, the only one that could be considered an *Acceptable* love interest is Jaheira, as she's the only one with a personality deeper than a fishbowl.
I had two that were just like her. Even sweeter. Almost married them. They both eventually cheated and disappeared. Don't get too serious about computer games. Aerie's a fictional character. Women are people.
It's so unfair that all the guys got three great female love interests, while us girls got stinking Anomen. ¬ ¬ I had so many PTs where my PC was forever alone. :(
Yes.I was there for her when she was so helpless, fragile, weak and vulnerable.I supported her when she was entirely lost and broken.Desperate with no hope no joy in her life.I saved her life on many, many many occasions.I transformed her from an ugly freak(transformation spell in circus) to her true self.I made her strong.I stood by her side when i had to fight at the same time gods and kill my immortals brothers and sisters and vanquish demons, slaughter dragons and destroy shadows and to butcher a shit load of monsters, then i went to hell and came back,i saved her from vampirism when at the same time confront a crazed David Warner who stole my soul an extremely desirable vampire and at the same time burden myself with her problems, even more problems that is and i gave her a purpose i gave her hope. And how did she repaid me? She dumped me..for as she said, she had to:"..to find out more about herself".In the end she proved to be cold, heartless selfish and a bitch.
TomeOfBattle You do realize, of course, that Aerie didn't really love Adrian, right? But she pretended she did..Yes, sometimes it is necessary to let someone go, in order to find himself, but during the bhaalspawn wars, she did exactly that. If she really loved Adrian, she would have stayed with him, or at least she would have promised him to return. She did neither. She let him discover her true self and then, after she took advantage of him, she left him!
I think maybe Valygar could have been an character for romance... but yeah Anomen was annoying. Minsc - well... he´s fun but i don´t think that would be a good romance, Keldorn - No. Jan - No. Cernd - maybe but more like No, Haer´Dalis - such an actor... No. honestly... it was really unfair.

There's still so much dialog I haven't heard in the game. It's one of the reasons the game is highly replayable.
ahhh....memories... it THE Best ever game of all times...unfortunately nothing can be compared to this game and the depth of its' scenario...
Two years later I still feel the same way!!! haha
@mrchuckmorris I think "Ralph Baski's: Wizards" comes into play here, never really cared about those silly characters until I actually was old enough to pay attention to "Avatar and Elinore". then I found them quite touching.

Maybe Viconia's romance ending wasn't a complete downer, halfway raising a kid and all, but being killed was no worthy end for her.
Acsension's "evil" ending has her surviving all the plots to kill her and essentially becoming protagonist's high priestess.
Thank you for your kind words. Hopefully Dragon Age: Origins lives up to the hype.
If there's anyone in the game who has a sacrosanct right to "whine" it's her, I'd like to see how others would fare after being kidnapped, sold as a slave, exposed as a circus freak, and then mutilated resulting in the eternal loss of one's own family, friends, and access to their civilization in general.
You just cant simply not like her. She reminds me a lot of Aerith from Final Fantasy, is her BG equal
when i was playing SoA i actually had to choose at one point whether i wanted aerie or jahiera (both were bitching at each other every god damn day) and i chose aerie. at first kind of regretted it until her character started developing more. Wonder if the children were born with wings... probably not. Just another half elf I guess
Not a single person dislikes Aerie.

mine too! me too! :) she was so cute! I love her!
Mr. Bhaal (spawn) is, after all, the most powerful mutha fucka ever.
@Metalhammer1993 What exactly is your question? lol
And then, Rainbow Ponys fly over the Sky XD
Worst part about Aerie is she was useless in major fights, against dragons, Beholders, and powerful mages. It was like I just kept her around because she was pretty.

Looking to play bg2ee and was looking for romance and this looks the best, all other endings look like bad end.
No problem at all.
I fell in love with her...
Fucking BEST romance
yeah, a deep personality filled to the brim with bitterness and sarcasm, to the point were only when Khalid dies does she ever seem to care about him all that much, and she is pretty quick to have an affair with the bhaal child after that incident might I add.
No that's Jaheera. This is Aerie.
At least you could turn into the slayer?
Aerie is a codependant brat and Viconia is a femdom drama queen. Quite frankly, the only one that could be considered an *Acceptable* love interest is Jaheira, as she's the only one with a personality deeper than a fishbowl.

Don't get too serious about computer games. Aerie's a fictional character.
Women are people.
sweet!!! :D
I found one :)
I fell in love of a real girl whose face was Aerie's. But my face didn't looked like Bhaal Son's. (Fuck my life)
Lol
It's so unfair that all the guys got three great female love interests, while us girls got stinking Anomen. ¬ ¬ I had so many PTs where my PC was forever alone. :(
Guess dorn and rasaad arent exactly cool dudes either.

Λαυρέντιος Ψαροκάηκας shut up, she gave you a dautgher!!
I didn't ask for a child!
@egrant8283 Boy, although later on she gives birth to a girl also.
She lost me at "bloody stumps".
Look up "Project Eternity" =)
No, I'm pretty sure she's died more than I have.
I think maybe Valygar could have been an character for romance... but yeah Anomen was annoying. Minsc - well... he´s fun but i don´t think that would be a good romance, Keldorn - No. Jan - No. Cernd - maybe but more like No, Haer´Dalis - such an actor... No. honestly... it was really unfair.
lol...awesome
Tl;Dr
"in the attempt of getting new wings sown on, while alseep in the procedure...the surgery failed by lack of interest of the act of sowing on wings, instead she contracted a mysterious case of anal herpes soon after"
She's still weak nonetheless
Aeire's romance ending is the best one.
Jaheira and Anomen's was nothing special and Viconia's was a downer.
She's weak
No, she is not weak.
Which is pathetic.
