    You know, fair play on Circe here. She lost the battle but then immediately switched to seduction to get him to lower his guard so that she could kill him there. And such a tactic would work if Odysseus wasn't loyal to Penelope here.

      @nothri 3 месяца назад +129

      Well she said it herself in the last song. "Everyone's true colors are revealed in acts of lust." I think Odysseus is very lucky his true colors happen to remind her of whoever she was in love with rather than whoever it was who threatened her daughters before.

      @mariannachierici2944 2 месяца назад +24

      @@nerdbynature5190 YES, that would have been OG Circe's plan, and Hermes told Odysseus exacty what would happen, and he basically told him he would have to sleep with her, in order to free his men (and to rest a bit, which is a good plus given the situation).
      That is why Odysseus makes her swear that she wouldn't hurt him if they, hum, went for a more comfortable piece of forniture in Circe's home. She agrees and they go bed-testing, which is funny because first - Homerus cuts the scene with an hilarious "and I leapt on her beautiful bed" - second, after that a banquet is prepared and Odysseus is sulking, so Circe asks "why are you not eating or drinking?" and he goes "How could a man in his right mind drink and eat before freeing his comrades?"and, ODYSSEUS FOR ALL THE GOD'S SAKES, your priorities here, you just let her handmaids bath you and oil you up after a roll in the hay.
      All this seems to give Odysseus a pass for screwing Circe but the act is meh, a mere power struggle, not erotic in any sense of the word. The subtle way Odysseus keeps Penelope in his mind is in their exchange, when Circe says "come on OUR bed and let's make love" and Odysseus says "I'm not going into YOUR bed until you swear I'm gonna be safe".
      Now, he keeps Penelope on his mind at the beginning but he seems to forget with time? Since they stay there for one year and it's THE CREW who tells him "hoi, you wretched captain, if it's your destiny to go home get up and GO" and so he goes "a'right, a'right, I'm gonna ask Circe for tips". Also, this whole escapade with Circe seems to generate at least one son, Telegonus, and that wrecks total HAVOC on Odysseus' family (please do not look it up)

    I always dig how the colors get used to highlight things that are more blatantly supernatural, like Circe letting the more humanlike mask slip when discussing guiding them to the Underworld (and I still dig how her hair waves like she's floating underwater even when she's not) or the glimpse of it before going full color in the final spinning magic. (also the half frame shot of Circe with a somewhat suspicious grin while all the soldiers seem blissfully happy isn't ominous or anything).
    And you didn't have to, but that dip down below the island to Poseidon's fucking creepy ass horse eyes really hammers in how basically Odysseus has no way to get home EXCEPT travelling on something that is out to kill him and just *waiting* for him to step off land to finish the job.
    And I noted in the WIP, but again, that clench as Circe draws Odysseus in for the backstab is simultaneously both really hot and sensual and also deeply uncomfortable at the same time. The freaking leg lift and Circe's hand gripping the back of his tunic are just choice in that shot.
    It's darkly ironic that Circe is genuinely trying to help here by sending Odysseus to Tiresias because he showed his kinder side and she responded in turn, but the lesson Odysseus will end up taking from THAT encounter is "I should've been more ruthless, like Circe."
    Circe: Motherfucker, that was the exact opposite of what I was trying to say.

    There's one extra layer to Circe's change of heart that people might not immediately think about.
    Obviously she's moved by the fact he wants to remain faithful to his wife even after 12 years apart, but whats arguably even more impressive is that he confronted a minor Goddess to save his men, despite having so much to live for himself.
    Add onto that the fact that he's clearly knows first hand how cruel a god can be if you cross them, and his choice to risk it all instead of run becomes insanely admirable.

    I do like your interpretation that Circe's proposition is more rebalancing power since Odysseus had surprised her in a more direct confrontation, but Odysseus finding a line he won't cross even when it seems he has no other way forward (betraying Penelope) reveals his character in a way Circe wasn't expecting. I gotta say I really vibe with how Epic's humanized Circe as a deadly but ultimately not cruel enchantress, and one who finds some fellow-feeling with Odysseus as someone with people to protect and powerful enemies. (Makes me wonder if she sees a less world-weary version of herself in Odysseus, and if she'd be saddened to know he ultimately goes down the same path she did because of what he saw in the underworld!)

    I've gotta say the inverted black and white and 0:53 was a great choice for the scene; it really emphasizes how close Odysseus was to falling for her trap. Had he been a weaker man, Circe would have killed him, and she was just a second away from it.

      Also I like how INTENSE the events of this version are. Circe laying her seductiveness on really thick and intent to kill, Odysseus' tears, Circe's scary-looking form when she brings up the underworld and then fading back to her normal form at 2:16. It's hard to put it into words but the characters feel very conscious and have so much personality.

    Getting Poseidon vibes from Circe... Or maybe all gods like to manhandle Odysseus? Did you rotoscope yourself doing the movements or something? Love everything about this ❤Ody thoroughly creeped out, Circe barely containing her murderous fury at having to stoop so low, until he draws away all big-eyed and vulnerable like some anime ingenue and she goes 'awww he ain't so bad ok you can stop crying I'm putting the boobs away now'. Penelope's warp-weighted loom looks perfect to my inner weaving nerd. Background Poseidon is SCARY. I can't stop watching the ending transformation it's so good❤

    0:44 It feels so much like a physical and emotional swing at the same time. Wow, how harmonious it looks!!
    1:16 - 1:50
    My heart was literally trampled by these moments - Odysseus is literally in despair, crying in front of Circe. Circe can barely believe him, she seems to want to, but she seems to be sitting with a sullen face, although she gives up in the end. Although we remember perfectly well what the men did when Circe trusted them - they harmed Circe's assistants. The mysterious eyes of Poseidon and Penelope, who is embroidering a carpet. Honey, you've painted everything so beautifully and harmoniously, wow!!
    1:53
    This look literally speaks about all the experiences of Circe, which gradually disappeared from her soul: "This man can be trusted, because he really speaks with love. And the tears are real. I can finally relax a little bit!"
    2:49
    Circe is an incredible sunshine!! She puts her hair in a ponytail, which, I think, literally means that she feels safe, strokes Odysseus' cheeks to wipe away tears.
    2:54 - 2:58
    This is a peephole paradise, I tell you, art lovers, this is a peephole paradise!
    3:02 - 3:09
    Circe's look at the nymph is like: "Honey, I'm sorry, it looks like this case is good and kind people got caught, so give me the pig" 😭💘
    3:15
    That was the last blow right to the heart! Incredibly beautiful and pastel colors, Circe who circles, pigs who become men again - this is something cosmic and incredible. I can't even imagine how long you've been mounting this!
    This animation is incredibly beautiful, smooth and wonderful! The explosive boom of pink, orange and yellow flowers at the end was a pleasant surprise. Cry Odysseus, Circe, who trusted him and turned the pigs back into men, just everything is at the highest level. Thank you very much, really, thank you, your animations on the Epic are a masterpiece, I really look forward to continuing your animations on the musical! Thank you for you and for your vision of the characters! 🎉

    AHHHHHH absolutely loved this, first with it Odysseus obviously being very confused and uncomfortable, then understanding the meaning, also love Circe trying to convince him, the little rock and back motion was also very smooth, the colours blacking as soon as Circe is about to stab him was a great choice, then him pushing away, BTW I fucking love the little lip sync you did with "My Penelope" also saw in one of your previous posts that you technically don't have a design for Pen which is fair, but I just love that sequence, absolutely loved Circe typing up her hair and drying away Odysseus's tears, then the whole sequence was incredible, with the pigs slowly turning back into men (love the little nymph that cried because one of the pigs were taken away) just absolutely loved the vibes here and it might be my 2nd favourite of your Epic animatics

    This is the first animatic I've seen that shows how forced into it Odysseus must've felt. Her grabbing his wrists and forcing him to put his hands on her showed that very well. In the original myth, he does sleep w her for quite some time but it was after Hermes essentially told him that he shouldn't make her angry which, by our modern standards, wouldn't count as consent. Most of the other animatics of this song have him being a (at least slightly) more willing participant so this one really stood out to me
