In this video we're going to look at the USS Galen.
This is a hospital ship much like the USS Pasteur.
The difference with this ship is, it is very well armed and can defend itself if necessary.
The ship is equipped with a rather unique phaser array.
Will it be able to fight off the Dominion and the Klingons?
    Thanks for watching!

Judging how much damage the Dominion fighters did, I WOULD take them out first, given the battleship is far less maneuverable, and you could distance yourself from it and avoid some of it's torpedos at least.

I love this ship design. It's really a multi-role ship but honestly any medical ship is going to be a multi-role ship isn't it? Not every emergency is going to require the same thing and warzones are where medical ships are needed most. Seeing that it's fast and has two shuttle bays made me happy that the artist was thinking ahead as to how the role would work.

Good design but a TNG Lost Era version of this could be the spade shaped section attached to an Excelsior drive section similar to the Curry/Shelley class. As a medical/logistics ship, the Curry&Shelley class are used for evac and emergency support. Instead of having the regular circular saucer section of an Excelsior docked at its back, the Galen's forward section is docked with the Excelsior drive section giving it that extra hangar/cargo area needed for emergency/evacuation missions.

Honestly though, a post-Dominion War, post-Sovereign Starfleet cruiser being an absolute insane-o powerhouse even against Dominion tech makes a lot of sense. Even the Galaxy--a 20 year old design--was a beast in the War once the shields were tuned to be effective against the Dominion's phased polaron weapons and the Breen's energy siphon was adapted for. Something cutting edge, made in the 2080s with Sovereign+ level tech? Maybe this ship is a little overtuned, but not so much that it feels *totally* unrealistic.

This is an interesting design for sure. Cool to see a Federation ship with such a long sustained phaser burst. That's the one thing that's always annoyed me regarding Federation ships. Was with how short their phaser beams could be sustained for. Yeah I too am impressed with it being a medical ship. I have always thought that a medical ship should be this well armed. I mean they're transporting injured people.

Love the ship design, not sure how I feel about this being a medical ship being heavily arm and maneuverable as it is more of a front line ship. Though I can see it as a ship that goes the front line to ferry severely injured crews or rescue crew from destroyed ship to dedicated hospital ship with holo emitters throughout the ship for numerous EMH.

Ahh yes, the Full Circle fleet. One of the Novel-Verse's cooler concepts. Once upon a time early in it's life Star Trek Online was heavily based upon the books, even had books only characters like Admiral Akaar show up now and again. I've always wanted them to pick up the threads of the Full Circle Fleet and do something with Delta Command.
Yes, the gate network allows instant travel to the Jenolan Sphere, but you'd think they would still be running Full Circle missions to and from Delta Command to maintain logistics and intel. Begin writing the fanfiction/your Star Trek Adventures campaign I suppose.

  • @asvarien

Honestly having dedicated medical / hospital ships seems like a silly idea. And if you are going to have them you should give them the best defenses possible! But when you've got stasis technology, it seems silly to ship people over to a hospital ship for treatment. Just stick them in a cargo ship and send them to a starbase.

I'm with you that medical ships should be fast and well armored. What I am against is arming them with quantum torpedoes. Phasers are justifiable, and you might be able to squeeze by photon torpedoes provided you only carry a handful of them, but stationing quantum torpedoes, which are very clearly weapons of mass destruction, is an actual f-cking war crime. And we all know how the Federation cares about their image.

@@weregarurumon3202 as far as I can tell the Klingons don't really have any dedicated hospital ships, and the Romulans would probably try to find some loophole they can exploit.
I go into more detail in my proper comment to the video, but the long and short of it is arming hospital ships is seen a a big no-no by NATO, which the Federation is pretty heavily based off of.
Legal and moral dilemmas aside, it's just strange that you'd put such a powerful attack weapon on a vessel that should be spending 99% of its time deep within friendly territory when those same torpedoes would be of far more value at the front. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense logistically.

    • @MisterMarin
      @MisterMarin 8 месяцев назад +1

@@pyronuke4768Living creatures are easiest to kill when they are wounded and unable to fight back. Rules of engagement are a human construct, something not every alien race in the Star Trek universe is in any way obligated to adhere to. A ship full of injured people makes a tempting target for an easy kill.
Klingons would consider it dishonorable and wouldn't do it, sure, but I can easily see the Romulans, Cardassians, Breen and other morally loose races taking an opportunity to "teach Starfleet a lesson". After all, if you kill enemy soldiers today, those same soldiers can't come after you tomorrow.
The chances of a medical ship running into an enemy ship unescorted may be slim, but if and when it happens, I would prefer the medical ship to be able to fend for itself until the help arrives, if the help arrives at all. Escape if you can, fight if you must, and if you must fight, emerge victorious. 🙂

I'm not surprised it's well protected, but *WHY DOES A HOSPITAL SHIP HAVE QUANTUM TORPEDOES?!?* Not only is it like putting an ICBM on an amphibious assault ship, it's an actual f-cking war crime to station a wepon of mass destruction on a medical ship. Because once you stat popping those suckers off that little decal on you hull affording you diplomatic immunity, even if you were the ones attacked, now means squat. Not only have you just deliberately put all the wounded aboard into the direct line of fire, the enemy can now accuse you of using said wounded as a sheild.
Now the rules of war in Star Trek are a little different, but we all know how much the Federation cares about their image. I can see a case where phasers may be allowed, but there is no way quantum torpedoes are going to pass that test.

I’m here to gladly & most happily disagree with you on that point. Quite frankly, having the Hippocrates Class hospital ships armed & armored to the teeth seems a perfectly reasonable, acceptable, & logical decision. If it’s going to be anywhere in space where there’s going to be casualties, then this ship is definitely going to be needed; in order to rescue people in danger & in need of medical assistance and care, to survive being a target of enemy weapons, to get the wounded out of battle & harm’s way as quickly and efficiently as possible, & to help take down the enemy, as they hightail it back to safety. I don’t know why you don’t think that it doesn’t make sense. I think you need to rethink your opinion. Once you realize your opinion is not the most logical nor popular one out there, the better off you’ll be. You seem to be ruled by fear. Well, thanks for playing. Bye now…
