I get the idea that Pulse Phasers weren't implemented until the Defiant because of the peace-time phasers (TNG-era phasers) having no effect on the Jem Hadar's ships. Although it is strange that more ships during the Dominion war didn't demonstrate Pulse Phasers. Maybe it had to do with how the array could be implemented on specific designs.
The weapons of a close range fast attack vessel and the maneuverability of a long range artillery ship. It's kinda fun but it isn't very practical. BTW, I totally agree with you regarding weapons in the movie picture era. They seemed more powerful and interesting.
Crikey.. I do like this ship, and yes, well said, like the shape and style.. love the pulse phasers.. very tough ship from that era.. but, funny in the game , like the Excelsior in the movie Chang's torpedo went through the ship.. but in the game.. and just realized , no more fly away, nacelles with the new computer..hmm. the A.I. is learning.. eeeh.. love the scenes from the movie.. lol.. Yes I would say, never get between Sulu's Vulcan tea ..hmm his tea is like Janeway's coffee.. lol!!! great battle Captain...!😊🖖
@@RetroBadgerGaming I just noticed that the A.I. is like weird to say but, like it is learning.. and the tactics have changed since other patch you had. so. Hope not Cyberdyne eeeh.. and just learned it is a real place. ok. wow!!!😳🖖
Interesting design and cool that t can fire pulse phasers. Reminds me of a kit bashed Excelsior class that we see in DS9 and sometimes Voyager. I think the nacelles need to be turned the other way around but that's just me. No surprise it took out the JJ Farragut like it did.
Those Wrath of Khan style pulsing phasers were a prelude to the pulse cannons on the Defient. I always really liked them, but in terms of physics, the power difference is the different between throwing a spear and letting go, or having that spear continuously extended and pushed into its target by a tractor. Guess which is gonna penetrate and which is more likely to explode outward upon contact? 🤔🤔🤔
The Surpasser reminds me of several fan designs for the Hokulea-class. Also, its design makes me think it's more post-TMP, Excelsior era. Like it would've been produced at the beginning of the 24th century (literally the 2300s or so).
I think the idea was phasers in tos to tmp were the technology of the time, while by tng it was spray and pray torpedos...why need phasers when you can shoot 8 torpedos in one shot, then there's the later machinegun torpedo launchers that appear in the tng movie era/ds9
I'd say the phasers are stronger in TMP/TOS eras because they were at war with the Klingons and/or Romulans was always a very real possibility, while the TNG-era felt more secure given how much space was explored and those same powers were either at peace with the Federation, or had withdrawn from the larger galactic-political stage. So, obviously, weapons were dialed back significantly. After all, the Federation is SUPPOSED to be a peaceful organization first and foremost!
That's a very interesting take on it! I've heard various differing opinions. A while back someone explained how the phaser array in TNG was more of a Science tool at heart rather than a weapon. Of course in the Dominion war they were heavily upgraded, at least on the Galaxy's. 🖖
Do you think that ship could of been the one that they looked at first before they decided to build the Excalibur? It looks like it could be the Excalibur's long lost cousin with the size and the slow maneuverability and everything else or it could just be me that sees that this ship could be the Excalibur in the future.
That's very interesting. I didn't spot that. Certainly a good theory. Maybe the designer of this ship used the Excalibur model as inspiration. In Star Trek lore though, I think your idea fits perfect! 🖖
I have a feeling that tmp era phasers are more powerful because power is localized to one point on the ship for phasers compared to having to charge an entire strip of a phaser
I think you might have done better if you kept a bit closer to the excelsior. Those pulse phasers looked pretty slow and I think you missed a lot of those early shots because of the distance
I'm just curious to why you turn, spending all that time getting hit, instead of warp or going straight by you enemy? If you watch, they never spend that much time turning, especially with a slow to turn ship. You were just hit so many times while using this tactic..... I'm not saying I'm better by any means! Just asking for a reason so maybe I can learn something.
TMP weapons seem to really suck. The phasers dont hit hard and the photons miss 80% of the time, and when they DO actually hit, thet cause very little damage.
I think he means the impact they make as opposed to actual power. TMP era phasers have an impact and convey massive amounts of energy being discharged. Look at Wrath of Khan, we see them slice, burn and score through starship armour like scalpels whilst sounded like lightning striking a faraday cage. They just have more 'oomph' in the presentation is what I think RBG is saying.
@TheKalZul Yes, thanks for clarifying. That's what I meant. They just appear more powerful (appearance wise), whereas TNG era ones are obviously stronger 🖖
@@TheKalZul I'd agree with you, but you do realize that armor and shields were upgraded massively compared to tmp. Until the Borg came along. Granted yes it looks like the tmp phasers give more of a impact but at that era anything would cut through a starship especially when it's shields are lowered.
@@CaptainRacer4Real you're totally missing the point. I'm not saying they are more powerful, I'm saying they look and sound more powerful. Presentation wise.
@@TheKalZul no I understand what you explained to me lol sorry if It seemed like i didn't I was just explaining... I can get very passionate about star trek. It's my favourite franchise
Are you in kobayashimaru or remastered? If your in kobayashimaru, disabling nanofx should fix that. Certain ships may make it more unstable as well. The Stock Galaxy class is notorious for crashing 🖖
You broke Sulu's little teacup. 😉
🤣🤣
The phasers and torpedo volley of the excelsior model scream TNG era.
Great looking warship. I like the low window count. Looks more menacing.
It's a Vulcan blend. It's ssssooooo special to Captain Sulu! 🫖
It's definitely a chunky boy for sure. I do like more ships using Pulse Phasers. They feel like an undervalued weapon in the Federation.

Nice Showcase!😅
The Surpasser is one of the more unique TMP-era designs in BC, nice show!
Thanks for converting it to Remastered 🖖
Looks like an upside down excelsior class with galaxy and defiant class elements.
Reminds me of the Curry and the Centaur from the Dominion war
I love your videos. I would give anything to play against you on the older online multi player Bridge Commander. I still have it!!
Good try in the end ty for the video and LLAP!

Well, yeah. Even if their tech was more advanced (due to the alternate timeline), the Farragut is still several decades older than the Surpasser.
LOL at the tea cup clip. Little touches like that make this channel awesome!

TNG phasers were so powerful that they could drill through a planet's crust. Just ask Professor Berlinghoff Rasmussen.
Spoken like the consummate explorer!

The name of the new ship should be the USS Fat Bastard!😂
The underslung deflector on the surpasser totally reminds me of the Boeing x-32 prototype, lovingly referred to as the ugly duckling.
That was really amazing I really like the look of the Surpasser class it looks really amazing but the USS Excelsior is better looking
The ship looks like a upside-down excellesoir
Definitely!

More shooting, less spinning and getting shot!

Good catch, there IS a resemblance! 😎
In tng the federation had largely been demiliterized thanks largely to the efforts of spock.

You should organize a multiplayer session.

They spilled Sulu's Tea, and he deleted their lives.
Thou makest Sulu Insanely Pee'd Oh'd. He loveth his Hot Beverage in thee mornings.
The lack of an aft torpedo launcher really hinders this ship. Interesting design nonetheless.
USS BBW

TMP weapons seem to really suck. The phasers dont hit hard and the photons miss 80% of the time, and when they DO actually hit, thet cause very little damage.
The next generation phasers are more powerful than tmp phasers hence why they use them in all of Starfleet ships by that time

There is a RAM 4GB patch to allow the game to access more RAM, which helps with stability.
