I've been furious that no TV shows have used the huge resources of STO. It's just makes sense to at least use some ships from the game. I understand not using story from STO. The whole any uniform and players being advanced through to the top ranks of Starfleet would be a bit awkward. The uniform thing may actually be taking place though. Picard can't seem to stick to any specific uniform lol

The copy-paste fleet at the end of Season 1 is the only fleet in Star Trek history that has ever made any sense. You don't design a zillion different classes of ships and then only build a few examples of each, because that drives maintenance costs and engineer specialization through the roof. No matter how rich the Federation is, it would always make more sense to design a few _good_ classes of ships and then build a butt-ton of them, making minor modifications to each as needed for its specific duties.

Even then they used a ship design that was originally from the first failed attempt at STO by Acclaim. So technically the Inquiry is also a canonized STO ship;) .
Seeing all of this starts to make more sense when you look over at STD. And realize that they create some assets in house. Such as the Discovery and first season and second season Fed ships. But other stuff they have bought wholesale from third party 3d model shops. The kind that provide Assets for Video games. All of those 32nd Century Federation Ships that look like they come out of a plumbing supply catalog? The ones that look like they belong more in a Mass Effect game than Star Trek? Yeah those were bought off the shelf from a company selling Video Game ships.
That may have been the point where somebody realized "Hey if we can use Video Game ships off the shelf... why can't we use ships from the Star Trek Video Game?" It helped that some of the new production crew both on Picard and I believe the Lower Decks ship designer are STO fans.

Perpertual, not Acclaim, but mostly correct. The VFX on all the live action Star Trek shows are split across several VFX houses, and due to last minute rewrites, a new design had to be created in ~2 days, and the final scene done within ~2 weeks, hence the copy and paste fleet.
_"But other stuff they have bought wholesale from third party 3d model shops. The kind that provide Assets for Video games. This is not true, those ships are designed by the Discovery production team. The modelling may be outsourced, though.

As Discovery's ships aren't off the shelf models, this isn't entirely right. You can read Dave Blass's interviews to see how they brought STO ships into Picard. Dave Blass is a fan of the franchise as a whole, and was the driving force behind bringing back people who had worked on previous Trek.

I would have like to have seen an updated Oberth like the updated Reliant and Excelsior designs featured. I think a neat role for it would have been as a fast courier ship that delivers Picard to the Stargazer. It's kind of silly that a shuttle could get there from Earth so quickly. A revamped Oberth with long nacelles would have been perfect.

Although, honestly, i like the Nova far more than any possible variation of the Oberth.

The Enterprise-E was holding a party: The Enterprise-D, Excelsior, Reliant, Stargazer, and Discovery all got makeovers and came over.
Then the Borg crashed the party and Q broke the universe. Fun was had by all!
The Gagargan looks like a TNG-ified upgrade of the Discovery to me, makes sense for this era to tie its multiple ongoing shows together like this, if in small ways, since the modern shows don’t have the advantage of taking place in the same era like TNG-DS9-VOY did

A small extra note on The Ross. STO designed it, in part with a small RPG group called StreamPunks. The show was called Clear Skies, using the Star Trek Adventures RPG books by Modiphius Entertainment. The show included having the ship use two warp cores and holographic first officer (Similar to Voyager's Doctor). If you ever need more Star Trek, (although not Canon), you should check it out over on QueueTimes.

Gotta say that’s a nice looking fleet, I’m really glad they took this route for the show’s visual style. In my opinion the design language of STO ships lends itself very well to a 25th century Starfleet. It appears markedly more advanced than late 24th century designs but not so much so that it feels out of place. It feels like a natural progression from one generation of technology to the next. Now it just needs its crown jewel the Odyssey class. That ship most definitely deserves to be canon.

Not only difference that the backbone of the US Navy non carrier surface fleet is the Arleigh Burke class destroyer. In a real world navy, there is not an infinite budget where you can buy ships of new designs every year. So to keep cosr down, you would have upgrades and variants of a succesful existing design that meant a navy's needs. In the xsde of the Burke class, there were 3 different version, Flight 1 to Flight 3, plus a stretch version that is going to the US Navy's next generatiion destroyer.
There are designs like the MEKO as well as from shipbuilders like Damen that are modular and can be easily modified to fit a particular navy's need.
