While it was cool to see her, I did think it was rather ironic that her decisions in ship systems designs over the previous 10+ years allowed the Borg to assimilate the entire fleet. Twice. Yeah, ST has inspired many tech beginnings like the cell phone and particularly TNG's PADD helped in the inspiration of the iPad and maybe the iPhone I think, IIRC. (Correct me if I'm off.)
The chairs on most of the ships still bug me! They should be more ergonomic and have adjustable headrests and neck protection so you don’t break your neck during battles high G maneuvers etcetera!! Plus the padding looks uncomfortable for long time seating!
It’s really just a kitbash, but makes a lot of sense. If the Sagan class are the latest and greatest, but the recent wars have made resources a little scarce, then the Echelons make a load of sense as Diet Sagans which only need a little bit of extra sauce (aka nacelles) to become full Sagans when you are able to afford that. Basically, you make a few Sagans, lots of Echelons, and then start adding the extra bits to the already existing frames so you eventually get the number of Sagans you really wanted.
