IMO The Neo Constitution class fits the new age of exploration for Starfleet, BUT I hate the fact that they downgraded their flagship from a Odyssey to a smaller ship, The Titan should've stayed as the Titan and the Enterprise F should've been given more screen time
They never said the Enterprise G was the flagship, did they? Not saying it's not reasonable to assume, since every prior Enterprise was, just that I don't remember any confirmation of it. Feels like Starfleet are happy to just let the G be a 'scrappy underdog' ship with a crew of 'ne'er do wells'.
@RoballTV Yea The G was not mentioned to be the new flagship but I just don't really like how it kinda breaks the cycle of each Enterprise being bigger and much more advanced and powerful than the last one, Constitution class -> Excelsior class Excelsior -> Ambassador class Ambassador -> Galaxy class Galaxy -> Sovereign class Sovereign-> Odyssey class Then we got Odyssey -> Neo Constitution class which is kind of a downgrade BUT I do like how it loops back to the Constitution class after all
The Enterprise name stands for exploration and discovery, that's the one thing the Odyssey class is not exactly known for, I think the Constitution III makes a great Enterprise, and there's precedent, Yorktown became Enterprise-A. So TLDR, Constitution III as Enterprise, is Starfleet's way of saying: _"Ok, we tried it this way, it didn't work right, so let's go back to what works."_ 🖖
@RoballTV No. The only version of the ship that was confirmed to be the flagship was the Enterprise-D. That was never the case for the 1701, not ever heard of in TOS anywhere. I think it might have been off handedly mentioned once in SNW, but that's it. The Enterprise-A most certainly was not the flagship, at that point, the flagship was surely Excelsior. No word ever that I've ever heard of as to whether or not Enterprises B, C, E, or F were considered flagships of the day.
As much as I LOVE the original Constitution class star ships, I would have to say I would command one of the newer classes (specifically the Neo Constitution class) as it will have more advanced technology, better weaponry, improved maneuverability, and superior shields, making them significantly more capable in most situations.
If I could command a Constitution Class ship, I'd want the original series Enterprise. I drooled over that ship as a child and had several models and toys related to the show. Edit: I feel like I should admit that at 66, I still have most of my models and toys.
I have long loved the 1980's era Constitution II class even more than subsequent Starfleet designs. However it is hard to deny that the updated aesthetic of the SNW Constitution class offers a lot to appreciate, I wonder what the updated aesthetic for the Constitution II class would look like.
Probably just light up the Bussard Collectors as the SNW ship looks to be a bridging design between the movies and original series. I reckon the front windows would be retained as well. The Conny Jr. design really has held up for the last 45 years, so no need fixin' what ain't broken.
She was a work horse, the constitution class. But she was amazing to see because you knew they could take it. Also, Neo Constitution because she grew on me.
Have you played Star Trek Online? You get to command your own ship. I have mine, the U.S.S. Jupiter NCC-1734, the Flagship of the Starfleet 12th Fleet, and the personal Flagship of my Main Character, Fleet Admiral Jonathan James Cartwright. I am also building a model of the Jupiter, using the 1/350 Polar Lights Refit Enterprise/Enterprise-A with custom decals.
Makes sense, as the designer just took a TMP design, the Shangri-La class, slapped a couple of phaser arrays on the saucer, changed the nacelles and called it a Constitution. Lazy bastard didn't even take off the TMP phaser banks.
The "Neo Constitution" makes sense as a the fan-designed Shangri-La class that it was. It was also prettier before the changes. Absolutely makes no sense as a 25th century ship and I'll never forgive whoever it was that decided to that. 😡
I'm not sure we can say the SNW Enterprise is an updated visual. Originally I would say yes we can accept that's really what the Connie always looked like but the New Jersey in Picard confirms the ship had the ToS look. That likely means the Connies had to of received a major refit before ToS.
The original Connie was consistent in "Trials and Tribble-ations", Picard Season 3, In a Mirror, Darkly and Relics. So four canonical not TOS series, the design in SNW is either non cannon to this, a previous version prior to refit or another alternate timeline version on TOS, which I would prefer as Discovery is so out of place with everything else and SNW with the Khan nonsense might as well just be another alternate timeline.
@ I mostly agree, I honestly think the idea of a refit is silly. To make SNW look like TOS would require no less an undertaking than the movie refit did. I personally think they meant the SNW to be a retcon look but the disparity came from someone on Picard either forgetting, not knowing or just not caring that they changed it. Kinda weird honestly considering they went to the trouble to do the NX refit at the museum.
🖖😎👍Very totally cool and very nicely greatly well done and very wonderfully informatively explained and executed in every detail way shape and format provided by you on "Every Constitution Class In Starfleet / Star Trek Starship's Explained!"; A job very fabulously nicely well done indeed Sir!👌.
For me, what explains the Constitution Class III is that after the Synth attach, Starfleet went to the bone yards, found a Shangri-La class ship USS Titan and, still being in good shape pulled it in and started a refit. With Riker's Titan being heavily damaged, they used the coils to give the Constitution III new nacelles and upgraded systems. This also freed up the name to be reused.
Which class of Starship would I want to command? "Dreadnought"*. But probably not the first one most folks think of. I enjoyed watching the original series, and then in the mid-70s I picked up a book of "Star Trek Blue Prints" with various ships, including a "Dreadnought" (first time I recall seeing something with three nacelles). *That said, I'd also love to serve on the Enterprise, like my dad (*AIrcraft Carrier) (*Bio-dad, as opposed to Adopted father). As always, thank you so very much for the videos. And best wishes of the season.

Well I like the refit Constitution Class , since I got see that ship on all six classic "Star Trek " movies . So just a thing for me , well do like the classic TOS one as well .But they newer ones just steal from the classic one , which is the refit one that is .I mean the one in "Star Trek Strange New Worlds " , and the Kelvin one .Look like they are from the same Universe , since they are bigger then the Refit Constitution class .And the Neo Constitution class from "Picard " .
Constitution class all the way for me. I love both the Refit and Neo con equally, there's also the Sovereign. As for commanding I'd say the Neo constitution as a luxury yacht, the Refit as a VIP command because why not, and the Sovereign so I can through it at all my problems 😁
I like all the Constitution-Class Enterprises (mainly the OG and Refit Enterprise, SNW Enterprise, and JJ-Prise as all three of them introduced me to Star Trek as a whole) but the Neo Constitution-Class seems out of place since the Titan-A shouldn't be renamed Enterprise-G as the Titan-A could still have a legacy to continue with the Starship Titan name.
To be true to my "TOS purist" notions and roots: I would choose a TOS Constitution class starship. A second choice would be the refit TMP era starship. One thing I would like to see is the TMP era "Enterprise class" refit which is a similar but distinctly different ship class. No one seems to remember this rarely spoken-of ship class.
I already my own Constitution-class Starship in Star Trek Online. The U.S.S. Jupiter NCC-1734, the Flagship of my Main Character, Fleet Admiral Jonathan James Cartwright. It was launched on the 13th of September 2246, and served Starfleet Command and the United Federation of Planets for a record 52 years of Active Service, before being decommissioned on the 28th of November 2298. In Star Trek Online, Fleet Admiral Cartwright and his Command Crew are transported to the 25th century, where they continue the voyages they have begun. I am writing my own series of adventures, Star Trek: Jupiter, and I am also building a model of the Jupiter, using the 1/350 Polar Lights Refit Enterprise/Enterprise-A with custom decals.
The Kelvin Universe Constitution Class line is beautiful honestly there needs to be more lore of the kelvin universe Starfleet. I personally would command a Kelvin Constitution Class MKII or MK IV as featured in my upcoming AOS comic series Sojourner .
Looks like the starship design team also suffering from neurological disorders along with the story team from Picard with the Connie 3 ( nice enough for a unrelated earlier time but not after the super look of the Sovereign Class ) as to command I wouldn't I don't really like any of them!
I’d prefer the refit or the versions build that way from the ground up preferably with all the upgrades I could think of to keep her capable of stomping behind if needs be
One little nitpick that I have so far, Decker's first name was not William, it was Willard. Otherwise great job so far, enjoying the video! I'm perfectly fine with the Enterprise-G being a Constitution III.
This. The only difference is that they put a couple of phaser arrays on the dorsal and ventral sides of the saucer and changed the nacelles. They didn't even bother to remove the TMP style phaser banks. Not quite as lazy as the USS Ctrl-C Ctrl-V, but almost.

My favorite Enterprise is the prime timeline's 1701-A, followed by the TOS Enterprise of the production series (although I prefer the bridge from "The Cage" for its muted color palette).
If I could design and build my own version, I would make it look like an intermediate design between the original series Enterprise and the Constitution refit while keeping the sleak and smooth design of the original. If I have to pick from the official ones shown in this video, it would be a toss-up between TOS, refit, and 31st centry. The last one is simply because it has the most advanced technology while the prior two have various design elements that I prefer from a visual perspective.
I’d command a original Constitution Class, from the Prime Universe, I really love that design but whilst the refit is nice it’s not my favourite and forget about the JJ Abrams versions.
I love the TOS, TMP, Kelvin, and SNW versions. If I had to pick it would probably be the Kelvin Connie because of it's grandeur. It looks like what a 25th century Constitution SHOULD be. And like otheres have said, the Titan should have remained the Titan. The Shangri-La class is cool in it's own roight, but in no way does it outclass an Odyssey Class starship. And to be honest, Enterprise and the 1701 registry should be retired.
There are lots of good ships, but I miss the built to last feeling old trek gave us by having frames last over a century with in universe lore being modular upgrading built into the designs. CGI has given us a new design for every other episode of Nu Trek to sell models, but that makes the galaxy being designed for 100-150+ years with modular updates outdated in 35 years.
Extra, bloated and weird. Also why the giant spine? It screams Discovery with a medical condition. These 2 elements trimmed/slimmed down would make 100% visual improvement.
I actually like the kelvin enterprise. The original series version seems way under sized and underproduced for an organization as large and resource rich as the UFP. The only problem I have is that in order for the kelvin enterprise to still feel powerful but not invulnerable they have to make more powerful bad guy ships and the way they went about doing that made the enterprise feel kinda weak. I would have loved to see the enterprise get into a fight with some romulan ships and absolutely body them but then when confronted by a super weapon or hostile entity then it needs to run or hide. That’s something the original series and strange new worlds do very well in particular.
personal i think the enterprise we see in snw and tos are a refit special since we see a tos connie in picard and the snw connie as well and if i had to choose my favorite will always be the mk2 refit kirks enterprise i love those clean retro lines and i rather like the neo connie design part from the class name neo constitution make no sense calling it that
In the neotrekverse did they also start with 12 connies like the tos trekverse? And in the JJverse? The trek refit is the prettiest ship, the neotrek ship isn't bad either, the jjverse ship is an atrocity.
@@christovog Mr Scott's Guide to the USS Enterprise (though not canon... apparently) explains that the refit is bigger and all significant systems totally replaced with upgrades. the refit 1701 was 10 - 15% larger in volume than the Connie. by all existing naval practice, that's more enough to designate it a new class, as the book does.
In regards to the question, would i captain a constitution class and which design. The answer is yes, yes, i would. #1 choice would be the Connie refit. (Constitution 2 with the ST 6 interior) #2 would be the constitution 3 #3 would be the Kelvin constitution from 09 and into darkness. (I'll Skip the anorexic look from beyond seriously the neck, pylons and nacelles were slimmed down to make it look structurally weaker.)
first off, my opinions are my opinions and are not even considered beta canon, let alone alpha canon, so you do not have to get started on how I'm wrong in my thinking. I'd serve on tos era movies Constitution class, sure. would do Excelsior too, even up to the final refit. not the neo constitution, that gets called conie 3 cause they call the enterprise a refit connie 2, and it is not, it is the class's final refit using Excelsior Tech with likely a few ships getting the treatment or the final ones out of the San Fransisco Shipyards or the ones on Mars. Now do not get me wrong, I like the neo constitution's look and design, I think it needs to have a better armored hull and weapons layout.
I am not much of a fan of the 2019 Enterprise, and the scale of it's size is just crazy. The Enterprise for "Strange New Worlds" is pretty damn good looking.....the way it should of looked like from the beginning.....but, those were different "budget" days....and mostly computer generated. But, if it was not for Gene Roddenberry, and Matt Jeffries ( if I recall ), then the Star Trek, and Enterprise, would of not been now. The Enterprise, from 2245 to it's destruction, in the later 23rd century, was alot like the CV 65 (?) Enterprise aircraft carrier...wich was the only ship that got through many battles....and still came home, where it was highly decorated
I think it was a slap in the face of the Titian's legacy to have it renamed Enterprise. To me it was opps sorry about your legacy but this one is more important. Plus we need to destroy the Enterprise legacy by putting it on a less advance ship without the presence of a TOP OF THE LINE, BEST OF THE BEST. WHICH IS WHAT THE ENTERPRISE IS. IT WAS ONLY THE FLAGSHIP IN TNG PEOPLE. I DARE ANYONE TO FIND WHERE IT SAID IN ANYOTHER SHOW OTHER THAN TNG WHEN THEY CALLED THE ENTERPRISE THE FLAGSHIP
The Neo-Constitution should never have been the next Enterprise. It's got a weird blocky, and thrown together look. Like an in-universe kitbash. The design isn't sleek and doesn't have a nice flow to it. Also, the 3d model doesn't look finished. With simple emissive squares for windows etc.
I discover star trek with the 2009 movie the kelvin enterprise will Always be special for me but i like them all except the dicovery 31 th century. I still think that the enterprise g should not be a neo constitution but a Yorktown class

Realistically, the original Command Cruiser USS Lexington.
I dont like the Connie III much, because I hate how the impulse engines look. Its way too extra.
I agree but I think it's not the worst design in new trek
@@ken.f.c.1977 or even modern trek, the Constellation class to me is much worse.
Extra, bloated and weird. Also why the giant spine? It screams Discovery with a medical condition. These 2 elements trimmed/slimmed down would make 100% visual improvement.
Original bridge no question best around of all of them!!!
There were originally 14 constitution class in tos 5 year mission.
Enterprise -A , for me . ❤❤❤❤
Those 31st century ships from Discovery are truly hideous. Not a good design in the bunch.
The only Constitution class starship that matter are TOS & The Refit the rest don't count 🖖
That’s something the original series and strange new worlds do very well in particular.
personal i think the enterprise we see in snw and tos are a refit special since we see a tos connie in picard and the snw connie as well and if i had to choose my favorite will always be the mk2 refit kirks enterprise i love those clean retro lines and i rather like the neo connie design part from the class name neo constitution make no sense calling it that
Definitely the neo constitution, i would prefere the sovereign class though.
This is wishful thinking, but I hoped that the ISS Enterprise would make a return in the upcoming Star Trek: Academy, as a training ship.
Pote*M*pkin.
In the neotrekverse did they also start with 12 connies like the tos trekverse? And in the JJverse?
The trek refit is the prettiest ship, the neotrek ship isn't bad either, the jjverse ship is an atrocity.
the Constitution refit. in my 55 yo head, it will always be known as the Enterprise class.
I thought it was cannon that the A was....hmmm....
(Constitution 2 with the ST 6 interior)
#2 would be the constitution 3
#3 would be the Kelvin constitution from 09 and into darkness. (I'll Skip the anorexic look from beyond seriously the neck, pylons and nacelles were slimmed down to make it look structurally weaker.)
Indeed. It's all in the name.
first off, my opinions are my opinions and are not even considered beta canon, let alone alpha canon, so you do not have to get started on how I'm wrong in my thinking.
I like the neo for me
Just because someone slaps the name constitution on a class does not make it so. Neither the neocon nor the dsc future even share design traits.
SNW Enterprise is also much bigger than TOS.
"Even in the 25th century you will still see a Constitution Class still around in a new design." Yeah....don't remind me.
That is not the Enterprise G
I don't buy that the Enterprise 1701 was damaged enough to be retired in 2285. It was just poor writing.
The Kelvin timeline's USS ENTERPRISE shows "Starship Class" on the bridge plaque -- another interesting tidbit.
It's pronounced as "poh-TEM-kin."
REFIT
The Neo-Constitution should never have been the next Enterprise.
It's got a weird blocky, and thrown together look. Like an in-universe kitbash. The design isn't sleek and doesn't have a nice flow to it.
Also, the 3d model doesn't look finished. With simple emissive squares for windows etc.
I discover star trek with the 2009 movie the kelvin enterprise will Always be special for me but i like them all except the dicovery 31 th century.
I still think that the enterprise g should not be a neo constitution but a Yorktown class
Very confusing
Worst class ever!
I don't care for, watch or support any Star Trek past 2005 (the end of the Enterprise tv show). So the original Enterprise is the one for me.
You should seriously give SNW a shot. It's quite evocative of classic Trek.
@@jceggbert5I tried. I got bored before the end of the first series
