I’ve been binge watching Breville and Cuisinart convection oven/air fryers demos for 2 days. One of the manufacturers’ demonstrators said, they don’t recommend foil in the drip pan. But if you do it, to cut the foil to fit in the bottom of the pan only, and don’t wrap it around the sides. I think they said because of interference of the air flow.
I have a similar air fryer, but from a different manufacturer, and the owners manual states you should NEVER put foil on any of the racks, pans, baskets, or the drip pan. Because foil in the oven can cause it to overheat.
My Phillips XXL has a non stick PTFE coating on everything, including the fat collection tray and mesh, so cleanup is super easy. In an air fryer the temperature never exceeds 200C/400F so there is no chance of damage or breakdown of the coating due to overheating nor are you using utensils except for plastic tongues to remove. Many ways to do this.
@@marian8757 I can confirm this... I wrapped a rack with foil to keep the oil from landing on the elements, and this made it overheat. Luckily, the breaker popped, and it stopped the cooking process, otherwise I may have ruined my oven and caused a fire.
I'm thinking of getting one of these air fryers. Does putting the pan underneath to catch the drips effect how the heat comes up to cook the underside of the food whilst air frying ? Thanks.

Dominique - Why don't you protect your counter by putting something "under" the basket??? And instead of cutting in the basket with knives, use scissors instead. No damage to the basket and less of a mess with scissors.
From Penny's comment The Breville Oven Air has only one convection fan on the top so it ' not 360 degrees thus turning the food halfway is important. Maybe other air fryers are the same.
Nice video.......I just ordered the Breville but its back ordered for a month. I also bought lil gadget called The Meater. Its a small temp probe that you insert in the middle of the meat and nits connected wirelessly to an App in your phone that tells you the internal temp and bheeps when your steak is done. Havnt tried it yet.
You’re wasting so much oil by spraying through the wired tray. Spray on a sponge or kitchen roll then wipe. Season your meat while on a plate, that way less is wasted and anything which falls can be reused.

Hi, can I ask you this, first I really don't like air fryer at all because food come out no smell of any thing like something weird. So your product does the same or come out with smell good or.....thanks
Hey, the things that I have air fried so far haven't come out smelling weird. Maybe the smell comes over time. I'll make sure I clean the oven often so that bad smells don't start. Thanks for letting me know.
Mark Do If using a typical air fryer, some models that are made mostly of plastic will smell/taste of plastic. I cannot think of the brand name at the moment, but the one that does have this issue has corrected this issue with their updated version. It’s the one with a rotisserie.
It’s a golden rule to let steaks sit for 5 minutes after they’ve been cooked. It’ll continue to cook and cutting into it will release all the juices. You want to retain the tenderness. I usually crack the oven and let the heat gradually release for those 5 minutes. I also prefer to sear the outside. The thicker the steak, the more time you’ll need and those were pretty thick.
I see that there is a feature on the oven that reminds one that it is time to "turn". But if this is an air fryer and the tray the steaks are on is mesh, to allow air flow, why does one need to turn? The manual does say that if you have multiple trays in the oven you might want to switch them half way, to make sure cooking is uniform.
JG Timourian, The Breville Oven Air has only one convection fan on the top so it ' not 360 degrees thus turning the food halfway is important. Maybe other air fryers are the same.
I wouldn't say it tastes better than a steak fried in butter and finished underneath the broiler to make it crispy. Air frying makes it taste crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside but without all the added fat of frying it in butter. I'd say the plus side is that you get the steak but without the added fat! I hope that helps.
That's a good question. I've always used foil in my stovetop oven to help keep the mess to a minimum. So far the foil hasn't caused any issues with the Breville. I noticed that another person, in a different video that I've seen, was using a silicone baking liner. Maybe that would be a better option if you don't want to put foil in it.
My unit does not have this issue. Moisture does escape but it does not interfere with the integrity of the lcd screen. Mine does have an issue with leaking when I airfry something that is really greasy (wings) which is very annoying. I just clean up the mess after.
@@HDBeauDee Manual says on pg 22 - IMPORTANT: when cooking fatty foods (e.g. chicken wings) use roasting pan instead of air fry/dehydrator basket to prevent the oil from dripping. Discard excess oil in between the batches.
I just bought one of these and am having buyer's remorse. I can see that "air frying" a steak might be a good way to prepare one, but it also looks like it makes a mess. I can sear a steak and fry it in a pan and end up with something very tasty but only one pot to cleanup, not a grid, the window of the oven, probably the walls of it as well. Is this what I face for many of the 13 "uses", namely I will not use more than a few because the inevitable cleanup?
The steaks would cook sooner if you close the oven door, instead of losing all the heat and let the steaks rest for 5 minutes after taking them out before cutting. They continue to cook for those 5 minutes and cutting them beforehand releases all their juices.
Hey Dominique! Thanks for the vid! Can I ask the time and temp you used to do your wings? It seems everyone has a different suggestion in regards to this. Thanks!
Time really does vary depending on the size of the wings. I always airfry them at 425 degrees but generally they will stay in for about 20 minutes. Flip halfway through. I usually will cook based off the appearance of the wings because I like mine very crispy.
You killed those steaks!!! not in a good way. Sous Vide them then finish ( sear them in the Breville with broiler function ) may be a better option if you do not have a grill. Thanks for sharing.
I have a Caphalon counter top grill, does steaks & other things very well. Both grill plates remove for soaking or dishwasher. Why would anyone want this, which requires cleanup, when my oven does the same thing & has a clean setting? Too old for more cleaning hassle.
You know 95% of the oil you sprayed on the air fryer basket ended up on your countertop, right? Next time use a microfiber cloth or a paper towel sprayed with the oil to rub on the basket or grill. You get much better coverage and you don't make a total mess of your counter. Also you would probably be much better off using the broiling pan and grill to make chicken wings. It will save you from having to clean up all that rendered chicken fat from the bottom of your oven. Making cleanup much easier.
I am surprised at how messy you are and as for cutting the steak in the basket, you are risking damaging it. You need to know the difference between a rare and well done steak, you obviously like it well done. You should stick to the frying pan, I think it's better.
