I’m building a main base on the island with a few outposts for different reasons. Herbivore island is going to be one of my outposts, mostly for the cove making it a good place to trap and tame aquatic creatures. For my main base, I am needing a fairly flat spot because I’m planning on making a huge area with multiple builds for different reasons. A green house, my main house, planning on having it near water so a safe place for my semi aquatic or fully aquatic tames as well as a breeding area. Hence why it would be my main base because most of the things I’ll be doing will be there.
I pitched my tent as close as rational to the very center of the island: on the cliff north of the redwoods, just southeast of the volcano. It puts me equal distance from the farthest points & is pretty defendable, as it's on a high cliff.
@@HarvsCorner To mitigate that risk, I've got the entire cliff stone-walled off at least 2xhigh. And of course, having 11 DIREWOLVES with a min 200% damage each keeps things pretty quiet in my valley! lol I've uploaded some vid if you're ever interested.
The Maw between the volcano and the first mountain is my fave spot to set up. It can be dangerous but it's really flat and there is tons of crystal, metal and obsidian around. Def a better spot for 2nd or third base
Other than when Ant and I had the base at herbie island, I think I have always just built close to where I first spawned in over on the southwest side of the map near the edge of the swamp. I appreciate you showing other locations. Sure the map may have been out a while, but I haven't spent a lot of time on it.
the more you explore each map you find more places that either A look really cool or B provide a better advantage. if you're super lucky you can find both
I tend to set up in the river between the volcano and the icy biome in the northwest. I tend to stay nomadic until I can get a bronto or other large Dino for security, then it’s almost straight to a metal base from there
Saw herb island in another video or two, but they didn't get into the resources and local dinos like you did. Definitely coming here, if only to grab an anklyo
Near the redwoods location, there is a few places with more level ground if you want to build on the forest floor. I would recommend Hidden Lake if its a group, solo the redwoods might be a little easier to manage
I cant remember exact coordinates but I think it's around 70.1 by 43.8 or something like that. Really big, really nice beach spot with low predator spawns if any, lots of space, close to 2 mountains and a stones throw from Redwoods.
I'm an level 41 and I'm still a beach bob. Just have a 2×3 base with 2 floors at the footpaw island. The starting place. Base is made of wood. I just focused on taming. Have 28 tames out of which 19 are dilos 😅. Now I'm looking for a nice place to stay 😅. (Also you don't need to struggle for silica pearls here and there. Just get to the footpaw region and you'll find alot, I mean alot of oysters here and there 😉) I also like herbivore island but you will have to make a small base there. Or just clear the area to make it.
