I always enjoy your podcasts. I want to make everything you show!! I will be sewing along with you hopefully when you make your dresses. I have the pattern so.........Lovely sweater too
For your oversize cardigan, could you sew some grosgrain ribbon on the inside of the back neckline from shoulder to shoulder? That would at least stop that part stretching and shifting so much. It's such a shame, it looks beautiful and the colour is so good on you.
I knit the Soirée pattern several years ago & also struggled with the pattern instructions. In the end, I charted it all out on several pages of oversized graph paper. And I did one of the small cables differently, ie backwards from Emily’s instructions. Once I did these two things, the sweater knit up quite quickly & fairly easily.
I learnt initially on a drop spindle, whilst camping in Wales, it’s slow, but you do have more control. With spinning you control the fibre, not the wheel. Slow and steady is how I was taught. If you use a traditional wheel, use a double treadle. I have no sense of rhythm and couldn’t manage a single treadle. I bought the nano e spinner first, then a the ashford. My first wheel was the original ashford kiwi, I’d certainly recommend one of those. Anita
ah thanks- the nano is super tiny though isnt it? i saw it when i was at rhinebeck. i had a go on their bigger one and it deffo felt easier. but then they had all the settings in the right place, i might not have cracked it yet with that. also good to know about finding the treadle hard- a few people have suggested i am being daft but i think if you dont suffer from lack of rhythm and hand/eye coordination, its hard to understand why it might be so tricky!!!! i'd love an ashford- bit out my price range though currently :(
Hi, happy new year🎉, for my twelve day advent, I am copying Jana from Finnish knitting , and making the polesden scarf by Ami Lowden, and breaking up each mini skein with white suri alpaca., going full winter delight ! Not using my full skein, for your full skein, hold it double with a dark brown mohair silk and knit dk 🧦s. ,or lightly overdye, to dull it all… anyways, glad you are better, I too had illness in this winter, noro virus!
Hope you new feeling loads better by now! Lots of people got hit really badly over December, and it has taken a long time for them to feel 100%. You should have a go with your drop spindle or is it a supported spindle. I find it hard to learn new things like that as well, but I think once you get the hang of drafting and spinning the spindle together it goes quite fast! Just a bit of a learning curve.
Like the cardigan, interesting about it falling off - I'm thinking of making that one at some point. Just to say that I'm dispraxic but managed to learn to spin on a spindle, it's slow but very calming. Contemplating a wheel but have no where to put it.
Lovely podcast as always. Would it be possible to use a crochet chain on the inside of the button band? Similar to the same stitch used to secure before steeking? It’s such a pretty cardigan.
I always look forward to your videos! I've been resisting the spinning bug for soooo long, and then I went and succumbed to some fibre the other day 😫 I will be starting with a drop spindle because a) we have no room for another crafty hobby and b) I've never spun anything so thought I'd try the cheapest way and pray it keeps me from purchasing a wheel or e-spinner for a while 😅 Glad you're slowly feeling better, and that advent was gorgeous! If you still want to sell the advent full skein I'd be happy to buy it off you (am in the UK). Happy New Year! 🧶🧶🧶
hey thanks :) i should start with the spindle but i am SO Impatient - i still might have a go. i think i need to just up the courage!! ah cool if you want the skein, please can you pop me a message on instagram?? thanks
I made a colourwork yoke sweater with Plotulopi single stranded, the colourwork section is fine but the arms and body of the sweater are really flimsy and have drooped badly, the hem and cuffs are not doing well at all so personally I will not use unspun without holding it double or with mohair

ah its a great pattern- I am hoping to start my long sleeve ochre one at the end of this month :)

There is also a reinforcement method using a crochet hook and yarn, I have used it on sweaters that have a collar that stretches too much!
I was also thinking that adding some crochet to the neck area on the inside might add some stability.
ahha! what a good idea! yes i will try this- sounds easy
@rmlrhonda and @blackstarninja6785 thanks for these ideas, i think i am going to do this and the ribbon!!!!
What a lovely episode. The fabric you purchased is beautiful! Wishing you a wonderful 2024 filled with many enjoyable craft projects🤍
thank you so much! happy new year to you too

I did something similar with the instructions, still struggling with the honey comb though. it just looks terrible!

deffo a learning curve! i will perhaps have a go with the spindle- it just doesn't appeal to me quite as much to be honest!

oh thats good to know! there is hope for me then. if/when i try to fix the cardi, i will share what i do and if it works!

I can relate, unsure for how long the spindle will keep me entertained 😂 I've just dropped you a DM on insta 😊
