6:23 explanation: here January 1st 1970 is probably the start of Unix time. in Unix operating systems the time is measured by the number of seconds since that day at midnight. it's not related to the Y2K bug but rather to the year 2038 bug. for a 32-bit signed integer, an overflow would send a computer back to 1901 (in his internal calendar at least)! it is a very sensible problem for some operating systems, i don't know to which extent it is resolved, but i think it mostly is but only thanks to planned obsolescence yes :-/... however the PS2 has a clock that is bound in a 100 year window (2000-2099 i think)... MGS2 is still very relevant today indeed. [EDIT: one sentence i did not make sense]
4:34 Playing MGS2 without playing the tanker chapter hits so different, I spent the whole game connecting different pieces of information and it really got me into Raidens mindset, it felt like everyone else was always one step ahead of me. Character introductions like Olga, Ocelot A even Liquid aswell as Snake revealing himself in his sneaking suit was so much better without the context of the tanker chapter. I would highly recommend treating MGS2 as a role playing game and skipping the tanker chapter all together for the best experience
It's funny how a simple change literally change the whole perspective of the game because you don't know half of the characters yet. Especially the part when Pliskin reveals his true identity against his imposter who somehow has the same codename has his.
Now this is something I'm really enjoying. I kind of hope you do behind the scenes stuff for the other Solid games, assuming there's much to talk about.
11:47 If I had to guess, considering that the EU version has a gender selection when make a profile (6:14), I think they wanna make Raiden genderfluid originally and allow you to select his gender from here, allowing you to possibly playing as female for the first time in MGS history. It is just a speculation, tho.
Time to cosplay as DSP hahaha, thanks for the insights, never got deep into the document of MGS2. I barely even remember the demo, i played more of the MGS3 demo back then in where you could play the game until you first meet sokolov. One of your greatest videos yet, the sketches of raiden, the lenghts kojima went just to develop his game... you really feel the passion from back then, videogames were at an arms race to be as realistic and awesome as possible, unlike today where only money counts...
2:10, the guards definitely exist in my EU copies, not sure if they exist in both the Sons of Liberty and Substance versions however. I don't really have the energy to dig out my PS2 and check.
George, i ran into a psychotic crash glitch in MGS2/Master Collection where the water is covered in rainbow dots and if i try to go underwater the game crashes
Even so, it's part of the live stream "moments". Whatever it is on screen, it only feels right to have it as part of the series for the proper continuity
The AI voice is a great way for George to actually communicate with us
the document stream was very interesting ! still learning stuff about mgs
Even Raiden's hotness was way ahead of its time.
I'm still mad they cut Raiden's ass tattoo from the Arsenal Gear section of the game :( at least we got crotch grab

@@Trimint123 Exactly, now imagine that twist in 2001 and the last time you saw Snake was in MGS1 when you couldn't make out most of his features
Great work George, love hearing the behind the scenes stuff about Metal Gear.
A DUD
Happy Hideo Kojima Appreciation Day! 💗

MGS2 is the most interesting game in the series
This was a Brilliant Video 👌
I love the AI snake voice, but I still like hearing your voice too. I'm conflicted lol.
Also, great video! Very informative! Great stuff as always 😊 👍
6:24 software nerd here. 1970-01-01 00:00:00 UTC is the Unix epoch. The time that computers use as “0” and started counting up.
I've learned more about metal gear than you could possibly imagine..

good work george you are the best (you are pretty good)
Best stream❤ W
Funny coincidence, just very recently I played through the MGS2 demo version for the first time ever.
Im expecting MGR stream today. Do not dissapoint!
12:10 GYATTT 😂🤣
I read them for my articles
Nice AI video!
12:10 "giyat" 😭
Darn! Wish I'm in the next video
I have that (MGS2) document (disk) and the first european game release.
The La Li Lu Le Lo?
12:10 I know its brainrot but. Gyatt
arse gear 3: cog eater

@@Emperorwolf999 First i heard of this
@GeorgeSalonikh weird... I wonder what is causing this
3:10 💀💀💀💀💀
Real question. Ever thought of streaming MGS3D? It the superior version due to the game having the crouch walk.
Yhhh nah I firmly believe that Raiden was supposed to be a woman at some point in development 😭
What if Raiden was originally planned to be a woman and that plan changed during development?
Female Raiden means no Jack the Ripper alias which means no Jack the Stripper, if Raiden was female, I would cease to exist
@@JacktheStripper-tc5pn That must have been why it was changed. Kojima really thought of everything...
@@WSmith1984 I'd like to personally thank Hideo Kojima for making this possible
This ain't even a timing moments, it's a video on it's own about the history of MGS2.
You could legit rename the video, and get away with it
