Each of those usually have a breather tube, and most people don't know that you should extend those tubes to higher up on your vehicle if you plan on doing deep water crossing. Otherwise you get water in the cases and can ruin them.
Snorkels are for so much more than water. They actually keep the the air box cleaner by sucking clean air from up high instead of down in the dust. Think more of a cold air intake. This the reason they are so popular in Australia. Great videos!
These Land Cruisers are insane. When Katrina hit Mississippi my aunt and uncle owned one of these with a snorkel and used it to get back and forth to their house or what was left of it. It would easily drive through two or three feet of water. They would have to stop and get out and cut trees out of the way that had fallen across the road. I believe it had well over 250,000 miles at that point and still ran perfectly.
This is the craziest thing you've ever done so far Tyler...hahaha. Love it. There's no doubt the Land Cruiser's are built like a Tank, and they're tough as a Tank, but they don't drive/ride like a tank.
saad9137191 yes they do. My mom had a 06 I have a 07 navigator. And even though my navigator has more power and torque it's just so sluggish they Toyota feels agile for it's size.
In Dubai - we went "dune bashing" in Land Cruiser. The driver lets air out of the tires, then we go like hell! Up and down the sand dunes, fully loaded with 5 adults. There was a convoy of 35-50 Cruisers, up and down the dunes, I LOVED it, scared me as we slipped down the dunes, then the driver mashes the petal and we zip up and over-taking air a few times. These Cruisers do 2 or more trips a day, punishing the Cruiser, just fantastic!
I appreciate this video more than your others because when you were in the thick of it, stupid jokes and bad commentary went away, and you were more genuine.
This is a late comment, but here it goes. The snorkel is not generally meant for underwater driving. It is meant for getting clean, cool air from up above the dust. I do however live in the US Southwest, so take that with a grain of salt. We ran out of H2O years ago...
I had one with 432k when I sold it!! It was running EXCELLENT. I basically renewed everything underneath and all the rubbers and suspensions for almost 2,000$ and it felt new again. I'm purely dumbfounded that you didn't walk your path first. If you are that unsure the depth, why would you... nevermind. Hopefully you and those who do the same thing have learned a lesson.
Also, I do appreciate the content but as much research you've done on vehicles, you could have used this chance as a what to do and not a what not to do video. Look forward to the next vid.
Mr Fiest yeah, that's true, you always look for a "rock" mechanical cars, age doesn't matter, in the new cars, they do not last as much years as this, especially 350.000 miles
No off-roading video has ever made me cringe so hard. In spite of having over 300K miles that 100 series looked pristine. Walk your water crossings before you drive them and have a spotter. That is all.
I concur. I appreciate what you put that vehicle through. NEXT add-on..... consider a fish/depth finder. Very well thought out video. Great job. Thanks so much.
Man this has been a great series on the LX470. My neighbor owns a Land Cruiser restoration shop and he drives a lifted LX470 and his wife the same except for being stock height. Both are 1998’s and the same color as yours. This is my next purchase! Thanks so much for the GREAT content!
I had a 1989 Nissan Pathfinder SE, a 3 liter 5 speed, that, surprisingly, did the same (minus the big rocks in the water), with NO SNORKEL. No electrical issues. Stereo kept working fine during and after. No scratches because we didn't try rock climbing in water. Instead we drove at a beach in the middle of nowhere in the deep woods. The Pathfinder performed at least as good, if not better than what I saw in this video... No stopping, but drove slow the whole time, keeping steady momentum.
nope.....the cooling system is sealed and even if water got in there, ummm is 50% water anyways He didn't go deep enough to get any in the crankcase and most vehicles these days have o ring seals on the diptick tube anyways. Same as the trans: I doubt he went anywhere deep enough to get any in the trans filler tube Brakes are sealed, if they weren't, he wouldn't be able to stop Power steering fluid: if he got water in there he wouldn't have power steering before because it works on hydraulic pressure. rear end: they are sealed and if he got water in there, he'd have had leaks before he went into the water..... I used to live on a flood plain and drove my F150 through water 1/3 of the way up the doors and never had a problem.
He definitely needs to change the transfercase fluid too, those Toyota transfercases have breathers that will get water inside. Same with the rear and front end. They are not sealed.
@@AintBigAintClever The old LR Disco to the old RR Sport but that's not my point. This car is "Lexified" so its a more luxurious version while still keeping the heritage of the Land Cruiser
Let's see, concerned about the old door seals filling the cabin up with water, not concerned about the old engine seals allowing water into the then engine. Huh...
I only hope Hoovie makes enough off this video (yeah, sure) to buy a replacement, because this River Cruiser is only going to be fit to be buried alongside his '83 LeBaron in the Car Wizard's backyard once the corrosion and electrical problems set in.
We bought a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser when the birth of my little brother happened so we’d have enough seats. Me plus three siblings plus my mom and dad we just needed more than our 2003 impala. We didn’t know we bought a tank. I no longer live with them but my parents still have it to this day. 270k miles on it. Thing is unstoppable. It’s kind of trashed down for my dad driving it to work and the work he does but it’s still as mean as it was the day we got it. It towed a cow trailer that normally a big diesel tows full of cows and a bull. Sure other trucks and suvs might can do that but it did it without struggle. Felt like you were driving on a normal day without hauling anything. In addition to that it towed that trailer full of cows through a piece of land our cows had walked through so much it was like a little canyon. It’s a monster and I have offered to buy it from my dad who wants to sell it because it’s too much of a tank to just sell to some guy on the street.
This SUV is a MONSTER! I did not expect a Toyota to be an absolute BEAST. Holy gosh. Now I know why Toyota Land cruiser are one of the best selling off road vechicles
Zach Campbell Yeah that is why Toyota is used to cross Africa, South America, the Outback, and the go to for Overlanders while every Jeep they bring along is being towed for breaking u-joints or some electrical failure.
Hamza Amir btw the jeep is what won WWII... They toyota kept getting blown up. The new jeeps 2010 or higher are Shít but the pre 90's jeeps are tanks. The reason you see toyota doing that with there landcruiser is because there cheap and they are already built on that continent and don't have to import. Jeeps you have to import because majority of jeeps are in U.S.A
@ZachCampbell your an idiot go educate yourself, the reason the Land Cruiser is used in the most unforgiving places on the planet is its reliability and capability. You don't see people doing expeditions and crossing multiple continents in Jeeps I can send you a dozen or so examples of people doing that in Land Cruisers. Check it out ruclips.net/video/IXNDx_XgoKg/видео.html
I guess if it still worked, you can probably kiss the stock amplifier under the passenger seat goodbye... time for a marine-grade amplifier. :D Good show sir. Good show.
A Z Yup. Here in the middle east. Corporations get very larg discounts for LC's or the Hilux. It's not really about the reliability but the availability. You don't care if the vehicle braking because you have so many of them at cheap prices.
A Z The basic trims has no special features or luxury and they still make them as basic as the early 90's too models. Less things to be broken and lighter vehicles.
Snorkels more useful for keeping the road dust out of the filter than it is for wading unless you are deliberately looking to float your car down river.
Source? because anytime i've used one and someone else on the same trip hasn't they've been emptying out their airfilter much more often than i had to if it's been dry and dusty. Many European trucks even come with snorkels from the factory and it isn't so they can go wading......
USARAY1947 it's a cheap off roader with huge mileage, I dont think he is worried about resale when the RUclips earnings alone pay for the truck over and over. Its just a tool end of day for work.

i never owned or drove one, but i just love these old little "jeep´s" as we used to call them back in the day when every offroad looking vehicle was a jeep even if it was a suzuki jimmy :D
What you have shown, only Land Cruiser can do. Other FWD, they are just fancy vehicles. Good for show off, but they can't compete a Land Cruiser. Hats off to you for such a brave rock and roll drive.
dude.. there are rules to off-roading. One is to never go alone. Two is to walk the trail first... and I'm curious to see how you get that water stink out of the carpet afterwards :)
Mans J, As an Aussie I can definitely say that I've broken the first of the rules for basic 4WDing hundreds of times, with water you don't break the second rule though. At the very least you poke the water with a stick as a depth gauge.
If this was Doug Demuro, he would have used turn signals inside the water so the fish would know he's turning.

You are a brave man... you are one of the greatest youtuber ever I have seen
Cuz hes hoovie. Not thinking is pretty much his brand.
So much suspense! The look of horror on your face was priceless.
harrismi7 it's because he has no experience in off roading. Just another wannabe making content they have no idea or experience doing.
Who cares? This guy is honest to the core and it's entertaining to see him fail.
harrismi7 lol
Title: Here's Why the Toyota Land Cruiser Is the BEST SUV in the World
Car: Lexus
They are the same vehicle. The Lexus version is just more luxurious.
Lexus is the luxury car company Toyota owns
Alex - apparently that went over lots of peoples head. Lol.
I get it.
land cruiser - squidward
Lexus - squilium
Hahaha
YES
It's the same thing!! The Lexus LX470 is basically more luxury version of the Land Cruiser 🤦🏾♂️
I was biting my nails watching this. Glad you made it out ok! That Land Cruiser is a beast!
my dads land rover was a beast, unfortunetly if guzzeled fuel
at 14/18 city/highway, so does the Land Cruiser!
The best car ever TOYOTA power🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵
non car guys be like
"lamborghini urus is better and the best suv in the world"
Mr Fiest yeah, that's true, you always look for a "rock" mechanical cars, age doesn't matter, in the new cars, they do not last as much years as this, especially 350.000 miles
No off-roading video has ever made me cringe so hard. In spite of having over 300K miles that 100 series looked pristine. Walk your water crossings before you drive them and have a spotter. That is all.
Clearly this guy has no knowledge of offroad driving
💯 % sure he did, you must be new to the channel. Hoovie loves his dramatics
This. Never cross water you didn't spot before.
I concur. I appreciate what you put that vehicle through. NEXT add-on..... consider a fish/depth finder. Very well thought out video. Great job. Thanks so much.
I skimmed your comment and read "depth finder" as "deep fryer"... So I went back to reread it because I was wondering where you were going with that.
Man this has been a great series on the LX470. My neighbor owns a Land Cruiser restoration shop and he drives a lifted LX470 and his wife the same except for being stock height. Both are 1998’s and the same color as yours.
This is my next purchase!
Thanks so much for the GREAT content!
I didnt think his ideas could get any stupider but of course they did...
Awesome. Glad you didn’t ruin it. Take it straight to your detailer for carpet extraction.
No stopping, but drove slow the whole time, keeping steady momentum.
the problem with this is,, the driver.
Bone stock 100 series is way more capable than the idiot driving it! Spend some money on a quality off road driving school.
Now you have to change ALL, ALL of the fluids. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
nope.....the cooling system is sealed and even if water got in there, ummm is 50% water anyways
He didn't go deep enough to get any in the crankcase and most vehicles these days have o ring seals on the diptick tube anyways.
Same as the trans: I doubt he went anywhere deep enough to get any in the trans filler tube
Brakes are sealed, if they weren't, he wouldn't be able to stop
Power steering fluid: if he got water in there he wouldn't have power steering before because it works on hydraulic pressure.
rear end: they are sealed and if he got water in there, he'd have had leaks before he went into the water.....
I used to live on a flood plain and drove my F150 through water 1/3 of the way up the doors and never had a problem.
Muskoka Mike not exactly. The rear diff was covered so it got water in due to no remote breather.
Yeah, it’s not the worst idea
He definitely needs to change the transfercase fluid too, those Toyota transfercases have breathers that will get water inside. Same with the rear and front end. They are not sealed.
Diff fluid is a must if no breather mod is done.
Great video, glad you did it! You just leveled up, my friend! Now I know what would happen if I did it, so I never have to do it!
The Toyota Land Cruiser identity crisis edition
Gerben Smits - I don't understand ?
It's this generation I swear
Its basically A Lexus Land Cruiser. Much like the Range Rover to Land Rover
@@VintageRKO so which Land Rover model is a Range Rover based on?
@@AintBigAintClever The old LR Disco to the old RR Sport but that's not my point. This car is "Lexified" so its a more luxurious version while still keeping the heritage of the Land Cruiser
I'd love to do something like this but never to my own car. That's what Tyler's for
You’ve outdone yourself here Hoovie....Best video ever!
Doug de Hoovie
PLEASE DON'T INSULT DADDY DOUG
RCR Voice 'Which SUV is the best SUV?'
Fun is rarely smart or safe. WTG Tyler!
This SUV is a MONSTER! I did not expect a Toyota to be an absolute BEAST. Holy gosh. Now I know why Toyota Land cruiser are one of the best selling off road vechicles
aayan goverski lol no have u heard of a jeep. My ford crown Vic can do this
slickkapone 310k it is a 1985 jeep cj7 and it ain't highway miles.
Hit the “Diff-Loc” button man come on..
This was a white knuckle thriller ride. Loved it. Thanks man.
I guess if it still worked, you can probably kiss the stock amplifier under the passenger seat goodbye... time for a marine-grade amplifier. :D Good show sir. Good show.
Oh god, the electronics are going to get destroyed.
As a snorkel haver myself, I'll just say, if you keep the ECUs dry, you're fine.
Bye bye exhaust manifold...!!!
Land Cruiser is indeed the best off-road and reliable vehicle of the world. No wonder they are the choosen vehicles of UN, United Nations.
or maybe Toyota gives UN a nice discount so you can think what you just mentioned
A Z Yup. Here in the middle east. Corporations get very larg discounts for LC's or the Hilux. It's not really about the reliability but the availability. You don't care if the vehicle braking because you have so many of them at cheap prices.
IbrAlHadede.Yuup..and it makes perfect sense too.
The UN?, that’s a thumbs up?
A Z The basic trims has no special features or luxury and they still make them as basic as the early 90's too models. Less things to be broken and lighter vehicles.
After all these years, still an awesome video to watch!
Snorkels more useful for keeping the road dust out of the filter than it is for wading unless you are deliberately looking to float your car down river.
popuptoaster most people overlook this fact. Makes a huge difference when following your buddies through dusty deserts
Rob Spagrenetti sounds like a personal problem Mr. Spaghetti
Johnny Dillard dont see whats personal about a bunxh of what in
Rob Spagrenetti You should probably get stuck in a desert with no gas, water and food.
Source? because anytime i've used one and someone else on the same trip hasn't they've been emptying out their airfilter much more often than i had to if it's been dry and dusty. Many European trucks even come with snorkels from the factory and it isn't so they can go wading......
I didnt expect this video to be this cool!!!! AWESOME
Great job. I had a 2000 lx470. And was my favorite vehicles I have ever owned.
This is the dumbest thing you've done since you burried a car on the Wizzard's backyard 😂😂😂
REEEEEEEEEE
“...but none of them do all 3 tasks that an SUV needs to do as good as this Lexus” brand new Lexus LX drives past (9:56)... 😂😂
I love your 80’s intro music and landscape with saturation
row row row your lexus boat
"We're going to take it rock carweling" 1:18
I’m curious of Jeremy Clarkson find this video
Congratulations on turning your car into a flood car. Adios electronics and hello stink!
Good bye resale value.
Once Upon a Dashcam should of bought one from Houston flood
USARAY1947 it's a cheap off roader with huge mileage, I dont think he is worried about resale when the RUclips earnings alone pay for the truck over and over. Its just a tool end of day for work.
Chthonian121 why rust? It wasnt salty was it, and if its dried out will be fine.
at this point he may as well take all the carpet and seats out and hit the floor with some tan bedliner spray if he plans on offroading it more
9:18. I spy another Lexus LX470!.. or is that a GX model?
8:10. I guess the leather interior is ruined now lol
Anyways, hope the undercarriage is okay, let's see what the Wizard can do!
It's a Prado.
Its a lexus lx570
acalthu they aren’t sold in the US market
It's LX 570 what are you on please check @9:58.
BuJasem Almuhairi Wait, which car are you talking about?
I just bought a 2000 land cruiser with 55,000 miles on it. As of today it is one week and I love it.
Hoovie is awesome!
i´ll bet a suzuki jimmy could do just the same :D
jimnys are insane. i go offroad with my uncle. he owns "93 grand cherokee 5.2 which has little mods for off roading. i can swear i saw jimny passing atleast 30-35 cm height of snow- hard ice mud mixed field where us and our group made it 40min effort. we broke tow(the ones attached to steel bumper) and bumper etc. and the funny thing is we were group 5-6 car atleast 2 people in a each car. that jimny was pack with a another cherokee with 3 people :D you had to see the face of cherokee guys in our group.
That's such a Suzuki owner thing to say lol... no hate, I love my zooks
i never owned or drove one, but i just love these old little "jeep´s" as we used to call them back in the day when every offroad looking vehicle was a jeep even if it was a suzuki jimmy :D
You can almost fit a zook in the back of a 100
What you have shown, only Land Cruiser can do. Other FWD, they are just fancy vehicles. Good for show off, but they can't compete a Land Cruiser. Hats off to you for such a brave rock and roll drive.
Wy u didn't seal the bottom of the SUV????
dude.. there are rules to off-roading. One is to never go alone. Two is to walk the trail first... and I'm curious to see how you get that water stink out of the carpet afterwards :)
Mike Dancy This! Talk about preparation!
Mans J, As an Aussie I can definitely say that I've broken the first of the rules for basic 4WDing hundreds of times, with water you don't break the second rule though. At the very least you poke the water with a stick as a depth gauge.
Flush the carpet with clean water a while, let it dry properly, and the smell will be gone
