Superbly done. Really enjoyed (and loving this Beethoven you wind out with... ). Our family in the 1970s used to have an International Travelall in forest green whose vibe I just loved. Of course, those where the days when no one wore seatbelts, and we kids were just hopping over into the rear area like dogs. Those older ones remind me of them, only no doubt more reliable. Greg, Thank you so much for posting this video!! My wife and I bought our 1999 Land Cruiser in 2001. At that time it had 19,000 miles on it........now it has 223,000 miles on it. In the 18 years we have owned it, this 100 series Land Cruiser has only had to be in ONCE for UNSCHEDULED service. As you have stated in your video.....a true testament to the standard at which these vehicles were built to. We still own that vehicle and there is no way we would ever part with it. About a month ago I went to a local Toyota dealer to pick up 2 heater hose T fittings. On the way out, a salesman said, "Instead of fixing the Toyota you own, why don't you bring it in and let us offer you a fair price on a trade."............to which I replied, "you could offer me what I paid for it in 2001, and I still would not sell it!" Thank You again for such an Awesome video! Toyota Land Cruiser, the best SUV EVER!

We love our 2005 Land cruiser! 275,000 miles on it! My parents bought it brand new in 04 , and my mom used it as her daily ever since lol. Now, my dad is gonna convert it into an overland build, so he can take it off-roading in the Mojave desert where we hunt. It’s an awesome rig, and it’s been apart of most of my childhood ! Never let us down!
I love the fact he mentions Toyota world wide. Would have loved if he mentioned the Diesel line up as well like the 2H motor and 1HZ. FYI Land Cruiser also makes pick up.
MERCEDESBENZS600 Kms as here in Australia but seriously who knows the odometer stopped about 10years ago. At a guess I would say around 750k maybe a bit more.
Greg, I gotta say, your videos are so awesome because they are so detailed and informative. No one else on youtube goes into the depth of what generations are best for a particular make/model or what years within any given generation is the best. That is just amazing and invaluable info. I have learned so much watching your vidoes .. thanks a ton!
This vehicle is used on the world's most harshest environment is a testament of the vehicles credentials. I hope to own one someday. I loved the 100 series interior on the video.
I have a 2010 FJ Cruiser and I absolutely love it. I have almost 150k on the odometer and it doesn't leak seep or eat a single drop of oil, it runs like a top, doesn't miss a beat and takes me anywhere I want to go 😃👍
That was truly wonderful. I own a 200 cruiser, bought from new in 2014 and plan to run it until it’s wheels come off. Which means that it will see me out. I live in the UK where we get the Diesel engines, and mine has the 1VD-FTV. An absolute joy to drive, with 650Nm from 1600rpm, turbo whistle under load (they are VG turbos) and V8 burble, it’s a beauty. I suspect it’s also totally indestructible. I am a Toyota super fan, and this was truly a case of you preaching to the choir. As soon as I saw the title, I was like “yep, let’s settle in, this is going to be great”, especially because you are thorough and very knowledgeable. Thank you again, that was terrific! PS: the LS400/430 is a also contender for the best engineered and built car ever made. Truly an automotive icon. The UN should give it UNESCO world heritage status 🤭😏🤓
You have a very fine luxury 4X4 but I like the very basic Land Cruiser Commercial sold in the UK. Steel wheels and a manual gearbox take it right back to the beginning and all it is missing is a two tone paint scheme.
No way!!! I have a 2014 too!!! But unfortunately it’s a gas version because I live in the US and I currently have 81k miles on it I want to keep it until it dies
King of all roads. It has a soul of a King and Sounds like a Lion. Every time i see one i am amazed by its wastness and aura. Such a great Tank. My dream car
From one Greg to another Greg, I appreciated your take on the Land Cruiser. I grew up with an FJ40 and FJ55 (that I later bought from my grandpa) that had to earn their spots on a working tobacco farm and sawmill. I did my best to restore the Iron Pig (FJ55) but quickly ran out of money and parts. It was still usable and a wonderful vehicle for surf fishing the remote OBX of North Carolina. While I loved both models I grew up with, I feel the 80 series were and still are the cream of the crop with the solid axles and the coveted triple lock feature. Thanks for the time and effort you put into this! Great job!
Great video and i throughly educated myself. I recently brought a 2007 LX470 (black) with 136000 miles and 1 owner. I’m so in love with that truck even though it’s 12 years old. It’s the quality and build that I’m fascinated with. Again great video and I enjoyed
Thanks for this video. I used L.C. 1989, 1997, 2001, and 2014. All of them are great. Never had major problem use for off road and family trips and everyday commuting
Great video! When we moved to Australia last year I bought my first ever Land Cruiser and have loved it since day one. I never had any interest in Japanese cars but this has changed from that moment on, and I will keep driving LandCruisers as long as I can!
dear sir i have 70series 1988 3door is in a genuine condition 3b diesel engine.❤ from rana ashfaq from sargodha pakistsn. your brifing about landctuser is excellant.
Well done Greg, I've owned a 2008 200 series diesel in the UK since 2019 and due to their cost as you explained, there's less than a handful in the UK that have been Overland prepared like mine ie snorkel, winch, roof tent, recovery points. I'm now adding draws, cooker and fridge then off to Romania in September then hopefully Norway in Winter and North Africa next year. I wouldn't TRUST anything else. Prices have gone crazy post Covid so I was just right time right place. Keep up the great work.
Great video. It’s not often to see land cruiser videos. Even though I knew most of this, it was nice seeing someone explain the same. I Had an 06 100 and it was my favorite vehicle. Unfortunately, it needed quite a bit of work around 200k and I couldn’t justify the cost so switched to a GMC Denali. I’ve never felt as comfortable or connected to the road in the replacement truck. I’ll be in a 16 200 as soon as possible. Nothing feels the same as a land cruiser. That’s what I’ve learned. It’s worth the asking price, at least the used asking price ;)
I have had 3 land cruisers. A '84 FJ-40, and '86 FJ-60 and a '91 FJ-80. Greg is spot on with this vid. I miss those cars (beasts in actuality) terribly!!
Fantastic video. Knowing more about the history makes me appreciate Land Cruisers even more. Great timeing too because I just went shopping for a 2019 version today.
Dear Greg, u r a sense in simplicity. After a pretty long time I have come across a review video of a legendary vehicle that's sophisticated, clean and trustworthy. Keep it up.
Greg outstanding review I am a massive Landcruiser fan having owned a 79 series Ute and sold it with 420ks on the clock, 5k less than I got it for and 10 years later, In a 100 series 2006 Lexus lx 470 now and will never sell it
Here in Australia, I was very lucky to have bought one of the very last of the 200 series in 2021; a Sahara, the top spec model, although all models have the 4.5 Litre twin turbo diesel V8, with the compacted graphite block!! The car is a work of art, appreciating by up to 70%, because Aussies Want the V8, and the "Hot V6" of the 300 series is considered a developmental motor at best. The KDSS hydraulic suspension keeps the car from swaying at all, in dirt or on road. If I was pressed, I would have to consider: would I give up the LandCruiser, or the house!! In Australia, the LandCruiser is King!!!
Great video Greg - we share your sentiments exactly. For completeness, the Prado does still carry a Land Cruiser badge, and is designated 90, 120, 150 series in the rest of the world, but North America knew the 120 series as the Lexus LX470. The Prado earlier version (up to 2003) which was the 90 and 95 series, available with 3.0 TD or 3.4 V6. The 120 Series also with a 3.0TD or 4.0 V6 from 2003 to 2009, then the 150 series which sold from 2009 - current, available in 3.0 TD or 4.0 V6 options.
I have a 105 series (I'm from Australia).I love it. It gets me everywhere. My first was a 55 series on which the odometer clicked over to all zeroes when I had it, and i was then sold on landcruisers for ever. I have since had a 60, a 75 troopy, and now my 105. Loved them all. Great video by the way.
As I gather data on those vehicles that may replace my '08 Accord, I run all my contenders back through the filter of what Greg and Scotty Kilmer have posted. So glad to have these fellows out there effectively helping me in the pursuit. Thanks, Greg.
Why not keep it? Unless there's a major mechanical issue, you could easily get another 10 years out of it. Sometimes a simple car detailing and a new set of tires might be all you need to fall back in love with it.
Hi, Daniel. Good point---were it not for changing vehicle type needs I'd do exactly what you mentioned. A newer minivan fits the bill now for us here. As I've always had Hondas, the Odyssey looked to be my next vehicle. But that was until I saw what Scotty and Greg reported on Honda minivans. NOW I know why the Toyota Sienna is the sensible alternative regardless of the year model of the Honda. Thanks for the comment.
I drove the Land Cruiser FJ40 in the hinterlands and mountains of Oriental Mindoro, Philippines and it never broke down and just kept on going. Thanks for the memory.
I’m on my 4th LC. Two 200s, one 100 & now an 80. The 8 speed transmission on my 16’ was trash. I upgraded to an 11’ with the 6 speed. Still driving that one and just picked up an 80. My favorite so far was the 06’ LX470.
I have to say I always thoroughly enjoy your videos Greg! I'm from Australia and work at a Toyota dealership as a senior technician and mentor and I totally agree with what you've said. I've worked on every type of car and the Toyota is the most reliable in my opinion. We hardly see any failures compared to other brands. Last year I bought a brand new 79 series landcruiser V8 turbo diesel (1VD-FTV) Dual cab utility and it's an absolute beast. I've had a 75 series landcruiser before, 2 hiluxes and 2 corollas. All were absolutely faultless. My new cruiser should see me through for a long time to come. Thank you for sharing this great video mate!
Look, there are things that are as (or even a bit more) capable in stock form (throw enough $ at ANYTHING and you can make it work,im talking of the showroom floor) but NOTHING holds value as well and is as reliable as a Land Cruiser. The next model coming is a game changer as well with factory rear coils, the rear leaves are junk on rd and being spring under they do hang up when going gets tough off road and don't flex worth a pinch of shit.I always get a bit jelly when i see what a well set up 105 can accomplish vs my 76, but all is forgiven when i put the boot in and here that glorious v8 through my custom exhaust.
I have owned a 1998 Toyota Prado GXL (V6, 3400 Quad Cam, manual 4WD) it now has over six hundred thousand kilometres on the clock and I have driven it on road and off road in almost every Australian state and territory, Queensland, NSW, Victoria, SA, WA, ACT, NT (but not Tasmania as yet) and yes even in the North Island of New Zealand. It is now very much a part of our family and the most reliable vehicle I have ever driven. Looking to restore her back to original condition, what a project, TOYOTA!
I drive a 2003 v6 petrol Toyota landcruiser 105 seies. It's very reliable very comfortable. I have 300000km on it with no issue. I love my landcruiser.
great video! i'm a land cruiser fan for many years and currently have the series 200, which is an amazing vehicle. i have many regrets of selling my previous (three) land cruisers. i should have kept them. thanks for sharing.
Wow, man i really enjoyed watching this. Personally I love the Land Cruiser and have owned an FJ Cruiser 2013 model a Lexus LX470 which shared so much from the 100 series. This cars can run forever!!🔥 You are very right on the pricing the 200 series is way outta range for the ordinary enthusiasts. Watching from Dubai.
My daily driver’s are the FJ Cruiser and the 200 series Land Cruiser (with the 4.5L twin turbo diesel). I love them both and drove them up the mountains, through rivers, over lahar, to the beach. They can go almost everywhere in stock form.
I paid the equivalent to $40k. I think what kept it going here is 10s of thousands of government orders for police. It is now the dominant police car in saudi Arabia
I love my 80 series, 97’ Lexus LX450. I often times think about letting it go because of MPG and I don’t drive it as often as I would like but then i think about it and realized the only time it’s broken down on me on me was when a 20+ year old heater hose gave out and it started heating up. Fixed that and it’s been great. I took it on an easy off road trail and kind of fell in love with it all over again. Might just build it into and off road weekender like most others do.
Just picked up a MY2000 100 series LandCruiser from Denver (no rust) during my trip across the country. I returned the rental car, and continued my trip thru the colorado rockies in the (new to me) LC. Went to the famous black bear pass and imogine pass... the stock LC took it without a single scratch!! Incredible vehicle!
@@kolargol if this was true, people would ONLY buy vehicles that were good on paper and companies wouldn't care about making their cars attractive at all. for example, all cars would be the color of the cheapest paint available. Just because looks "isn't for you" don't mean it's "for posers."
I don't know how I stumble on this video but I'm so glad that I did. If I only had 1 car to choose for rest of my life, I'll chose the Land Cruiser. Thank you so much for making and sharing this gem of a video. Respect!
It`s a shame that the U.S market didn`t get the HJ60 and the 70 series, my daily driver is an 1983 HJ60 G with the straight six 4.0 diesel engine and a five speed manual transmission with factory AC. The engine is reliable and after almost 290.000km it has no oil consumption between oil changes which is 5.000km, also the engine in my LC has an extra factory centrifugal oil filter that helps with emissions and carbon build up.
Love these modern classics...315k miles on my 2000 FJ100, 213k on my 2007 FJ Cruiser, and 305k on the 2004 4runner...all daily driven in comfort and quiet. Just have to talk my oldest daughter out of buying an LR3 ;-)
Great video bud. Here in Australia we love our landcruisers and I have personally owned 3 in my time and now I own a prado which is the smaller variant to the landcruiser but in saying that, there is nothing quite like a solid well taken care of landcruiser 👍
I don't have a Land cruiser, I have a 1988 SR5 V-6 4×4 AND 32 years later it is still going strong with same motor & transmission! I take it everywhere, back roads of Death Valley, all over the Mojave & Sonoran Desert, and all the surrounding mtns! ... Toyota fan for life!✌🏼🏜️
Here in South Africa the 105 Series came out in GX & VX spec. GX was a 4.5 straight 6 petrol & 4.2 diesel with solid front axle with coil springs. The VX had independent front suspension and came out with the 4.2 Turbo Diesel and that wonderful 4.7 V8 from Lexus.
Thank you for this wonderful and informative video. I own two, a 40 and a 55 series. Although the 55 is still on the process of restoration. Hope you can feature more on the 55 series.
A video story of vehicular admiration, chock full of Insider knowledge, specific to the glorious Toyota Land Cruiser. My heart was swept away, the first time I sat in one, at the NY Auto show in the Jacob Javits convention Center in NYC, somewhere, circa 2000s. The fit, finish, and overall feel of mechanical exceptionalism, was only superceded by its form, function, and worldwide bulletproof reputation. I have a thing, for a model with the 3 locking differentials, so I will have to do further research, as a mint model for future purchase, incorporating same, is my dream, future daily driver and overland vehicle. Thanks for your vehicular love story Greg Macke with Toyota's Land Cruiser. It is warranted, and you have much to be proud of in your RUclips content creation. Great video!! It amazes me how little is said about the mighty Land Cruiser. Also just about every video I see only mentions the Petrol V8’s. I have the 2013 (facelift) Land Cruiser VX LTD with the 4.5 litre diesel V8. It is simply awesome. I tow a big trailer boat with and it is the BOSS for towing - doesn’t even know it’s got a big boat on the back. Has a 120 litre long range diesel tank and I get over 900km on a tank of diesel. It’s an incredible machine.
Greg, nice take on the Land Cruiser history and line, I own a 60 that I found as a 1 owner CA truck. Completely restored the truck and after taking it to my place in Montana I brought it back to Ca and did a LS conversion (sac relig) but the truck runs beutifully with no issues....fast forward I just purchased a 2020 Heritage Edition LC....pricey yes but I don't replace vehicles often (keeping the 60) and if you look at the long haul, I veiw it as money well spent.
Whatta quality video i have seen in ages on one of the worlds best offroader and superb walkthrough of its evolution from 1940s to 2020.. KEEP IT UP.. From a big fan of Toyota Landcruiser :)
I’m obsessed with the land cruiser....but only diesel. I’ve owned a few 60 series, a 45 series a brand new 100 TD series and a Brand new 200 series TD. I will always regret selling my 2006 100 Series to upgrade to the 2007 200. Although I went for a 200 series Sahara from a GXL 100 series I will always regret selling the 100; it was the best truck made. The 200 Sahara was absolute luxury and I felt like an absolute boss driving it (especially as I was only 27 and most of the people round here were shocked that I could afford a $129,000 truck) in Australia. I always loved how robust the 100 series was. But, I am going to buy a 300 series for sure but only a VX model. Not worth the extra $$$$ for a Sahara. Great video!
This is amazing! Thank you for making this video! This is true passion. I grew up loving these magnificent vehicles. And my dream is to own one one day. Hopefully, by the time I get to that level where I can afford one, they'll still be around.
Toyota, in General, is the best car manufactor that provides longevity, reliability, and practicality. I love Toyota ever vehicle I've owned is over 200k miles and still runs no major problems. In the Middle East, We own the 70 series, 2000s series and the Land cruiser Hilux best-made vehicles to ever be produced...
Its a glorious engine, soo much torque.Lots of other way smaller capacity DI turbo diesels around the place here, many with roughly similar numbers to the 1vd-ftv But its the availability of the torque that makes the v8 eat everything! No clutch slipp required for taking of, pulls from well under 1k rpm all the way to 3ish. The smaller milk bottles can kind of keep up on the rd (of rd no comparison, v8 eats everything just tractors up hills you cant even walk up!) but they have to have their necks rung by comparison.
The petrols are better, too many problems with the V8 diesel engines here in Australia. Expensive to buy and expensive to fix. DPF issues, turbo and injector issues causing massive long term running costs. Better to pay a bit more at the pump for reliable motoring with no expensive repair bills.
Great job on the video. The content is spot on. I own a 2000 Land Cruiser and a 2004 LX470. I've been driving the 2000 LC for 18 years and 320,000 miles. Indestructible. My daughter and Son In Law own a 2007 LC and an FJ Cruiser. When they are all in the driveway, the scene makes a serious statement.

😄😄
What is that, about 100K quid in the UK?
No way!!! I have a 2014 too!!! But unfortunately it’s a gas version because I live in the US and I currently have 81k miles on it I want to keep it until it dies
Diesel is the way to go! Diesel the only engine available in SA.
Showing those legendary cars makes you a legend.
We need the 70 series in the USA!
Me too! I wish Toyota had something akin to the Central Office Production Option COPO of GM in the 60s and early 70s.
Jeff Schultz what’s that?
I drive a VDJ75 every day at work, they're pretty tough but not unbreakable.
A new VDJ79 will set you back 70k AUD which is 48k USD.

Great job!
You nailed it, great LC history and info. Still driving my 2001 100 series as daily driver, runs like new
Great video and i throughly educated myself. I recently brought a 2007 LX470 (black) with 136000 miles and 1 owner. I’m so in love with that truck even though it’s 12 years old. It’s the quality and build that I’m fascinated with. Again great video and I enjoyed
Plus Australian mining and energy companies and contractors. Seismic acquisition companies over here love them.
Proud owner of a 2003 Landcruiser Sahara. It's got that old school solid, rugged, hard working automotive industrial era look and feel to it.
Awesome video mate I’ve been driving landcruisers I’ve owned nearly every model yes even the 200 series best trucks on the road in Australia
Yes its true i realy love a toyota landcruiser but im only a poor guy so icant afford any of them from Philippines.
Noises are they called yutes?
Noises hahahahaha
Noises what they called
DaBoy Costelo what’s funny dear
Toyota Land Cruiser, the King
Keep it up.
Greg outstanding review
I am a massive Landcruiser fan having owned a 79 series Ute and sold it with 420ks on the clock, 5k less than I got it for and 10 years later,
In a 100 series 2006 Lexus lx 470 now and will never sell it
Here in Australia, I was very lucky to have bought one of the very last of the 200 series in 2021; a Sahara, the top spec model, although all models have the 4.5 Litre twin turbo diesel V8, with the compacted graphite block!!
In town or out of town, land cruisers always deliver. Every time I see one passing by, I cant help but stare.
Awesome detailing.... no nonsense spoken....
More than a youtube video, I would say it's a nicely presented "Research Article on Land Cruiser"
My 80 series is a beast. And she rolls like a dream.
Just bought 70 series ute I love it,makes me smile when driving it.
Mr. Greg your presentation s are always superior, unbiased and factual. Thanks and keep it up.
Brilliant, loved my 80. She's in Africa somewhere now plugging away!
I’m on my 4th LC. Two 200s, one 100 & now an 80. The 8 speed transmission on my 16’ was trash. I upgraded to an 11’ with the 6 speed. Still driving that one and just picked up an 80. My favorite so far was the 06’ LX470.
I would love to see you talk about the 70 series Land cruiser
That has always been my favorite . From civilian to military
Thank you for sharing this great video mate!
i've heard that when they do break, they are easier to repair then some other brands, is this true?
@@jimmyrecard6021 Absolutely one of the core advantages of a Toyota. Simplicity. They are very easy to service and repair.
Only Land Cruiser beats Land Cruiser. Thank you Greg! This video is amazing because is really objective and detailing. Warm greetings.
I salute the Toyota makers, they deserve to be on top
I drive a 2003 v6 petrol Toyota landcruiser 105 seies. It's very reliable very comfortable. I have 300000km on it with no issue. I love my landcruiser.
great video! i'm a land cruiser fan for many years and currently have the series 200, which is an amazing vehicle. i have many regrets of selling my previous (three) land cruisers. i should have kept them. thanks for sharing.
Great job of communication. Smooth and uncomplicated. No hidden agenda. Thanks, I’m looking to get a used 200
Wow, man i really enjoyed watching this.
Personally I love the Land Cruiser and have owned an FJ Cruiser 2013 model a Lexus LX470 which shared so much from the 100 series.
This cars can run forever!!🔥
You are very right on the pricing the 200 series is way outta range for the ordinary enthusiasts.
Please note that the fj cruiser is still sold in the middle east. I just bought a 2019.
Also still sold in the Philippines at equivalent price of USD35,000. Brand new 2019 model.
I paid the equivalent to $40k. I think what kept it going here is 10s of thousands of government orders for police. It is now the dominant police car in saudi Arabia
May I note a very interesting fact. The fj sold here comes with an optional 42 gallon tank (157 liters) good for over 800 miles
@@golferpro1241 I'm not surprised, it would have shamed every wrangler in the road. It's designed to last decades
@@desertblade1874 Too bad the visibility was so awful or exactly the opposite of the early Land Cruiser.
I’m a proud 100 series owner. My boy’s still going strong
"Everything in Land Cruiser are built around function and not fashion"
hey my 99 LX470 is more "fashionable" than a lot of vehicles built today haha
Looks is for posers
@@kolargol if this was true, people would ONLY buy vehicles that were good on paper and companies wouldn't care about making their cars attractive at all. for example, all cars would be the color of the cheapest paint available. Just because looks "isn't for you" don't mean it's "for posers."

I don't know how I stumble on this video but I'm so glad that I did. If I only had 1 car to choose for rest of my life, I'll chose the Land Cruiser. Thank you so much for making and sharing this gem of a video. Respect!
Great video, we’ll researched. Thanks for taking the time to develop such great content.
Thanks Greg, that was short and sweet but straight to the point. Now I have more understanding of Land Cruizer
I take it everywhere, back roads of Death Valley, all over the Mojave & Sonoran Desert, and all the surrounding mtns! ... Toyota fan for life!✌🏼🏜️
I bought a 1997 Land cruiser 40th Anniversary Collectors Edition last year!
Good for you !
Well done Japanese people for showing how American people to make a professional offroader......

My LOVE exactly. Simply the BEST in automotive history, my Dream Car. A great video with informative material.
Thanks for all your in depth info...and for getting all the cruisers together ,that was tremendous
Whatta quality video i have seen in ages on one of the worlds best offroader and superb walkthrough of its evolution from 1940s to 2020..
KEEP IT UP.. From a big fan of Toyota Landcruiser :)
Best vehicle ever made!
Excellent informative video👍

Toyota, in General, is the best car manufactor that provides longevity, reliability, and practicality. I love Toyota ever vehicle I've owned is over 200k miles and still runs no major problems. In the Middle East, We own the 70 series, 2000s series and the Land cruiser Hilux best-made vehicles to ever be produced...
Thanks for the video, yes we do love them here in the Middle East.
great video. The FJ60 came with 4 speed from 81 - 84 and from 85 to 87 had 5 speeds. I love my 84 FJ60 but those 80 series are beast
They need to bring the V8 diesel to the US!
True, true
Yes! Here in AUS the 200 Series has the option of a 4.5lt v8 twin turbo diesel. Its incredibly capable.
Braden Sipple well yeah it’s a twin turbo diesel 😂😂 they are way stronger than a regular gas but less hp, which the hp is stronger though
A quality man showcasing a quality product in a quality way. What more can I say.
Thank you Greg for your insightful history of the Toyota Land Cruiser. My brother & I are looking forward to getting 1 each for our retirement touring around our great country: Australia
