Diplodocus (/dɪˈplɒdəkəs/,[1][2] /daɪˈplɒdəkəs/,[2] or /ˌdɪploʊˈdoʊkəs/[1]) is a genus of diplodocid sauropod dinosaurs whose fossils were first discovered in 1877 by S. W. Williston. The generic name, coined by Othniel Charles Marsh in 1878, is a neo-Latin term derived from Greek διπλός (diplos) "double" and δοκός (dokos) "beam",[1][3] in reference to its double-beamed chevron bones located in the underside of the tail. Chevron bones of this particular form were initially believed to be unique to Diplodocus; since then they have been discovered in other members of the diplodocid family as well as in non-diplodocid sauropods, such as Mamenchisaurus. It is now common scientific opinion that Seismosaurus hallorum is a species of Diplodocus. This genus of dinosaurs lived in what is now mid-western North America at the end of the Jurassic period. Diplodocus is one of the more common dinosaur fossils found in the middle to upper Morrison Formation, between about 154 and 152 million years ago, during the late Kimmeridgian age.[4] The Morrison Formation records an environment and time dominated by gigantic sauropod dinosaurs, such as Apatosaurus, Barosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Brontosaurus, and Camarasaurus.[5] Diplodocus is among the most easily identifiable dinosaurs, with its typical sauropod shape, long neck and tail, and four sturdy legs. For many years, it was the longest dinosaur known. Its great size may have been a deterrent to the predators Allosaurus and Ceratosaurus: their remains have been found in the same strata, which suggests that they coexisted with Diplodocus.
undisputable. this is my reason i bought 2nd hand 2005 Hilux SW4 last year, only reason prev owner selling it just to upgrade for newer 2017 Hilux SW4. U can feel its reliability. Fuel consumption may be frustrating, but its acceptable for a petrol I4 engine pulling such heavy SUV and its fulltime 4WD drivetrain(performance seems unaffected when fully loaded with people)
My dad has a secondhand 02' Land cruiser with 320K miles on it and it runs perfectly, with original engine and transmission. He o my had to replace the ignition because it would stick when it was cold outside

One of the reasons they are the vehicle of choice in the Australian outback or the middle of nowhere Africa with no phone reception... The majority of Americans might not get how remote the rest of world can be.
Yeah definitely need a car for these types of places but why people who live in cities need to drive around in a land cruiser is beyond me... Not trying to be a butthurt environmentalist but especially when living in a big city you have to show at least a little bit of responsibility
@@tobsixi6702 A frequently overlooked fact is that the production of a brand new car has a carbon footprint similar to that of it's entire lifetime of driving. Thus, this long lasting Land Cruiser ends up polluting less that you suppose by the fact it lasts twice what it's competitors do.
@@jeffsafawi7947 Yeah, most of TOYOTA FAN BOYs cannot AFFORD a RR only JEALOUS n SALTY, keep enjoying ur butthurt UGLY plastic toys,HATERS gonna hate😂😂
Stuart Stuart Can’t afford an RR? You do realize that the MSRP on this is almost identical to the big Rover, right? Spending that kind of money on a car that is one of the least dependable cars is foolish, whereas this Toyota will accrue 200k miles with ease.
I am Qatari, and yes you are right! I have 2 land cruisers and this thing is an unstoppable tank. I have a 2002 land cruiser and it still works perfectly fine and has no problems
Because they are a Reliable cars also they aren’t 6 cylinder turbo charge and some hard mechanics stuffs that would be hard to repair and replace and even costs more money than they v8 natural engine that powerful and the good sound and exhaust noteso that the reason why we We prefer the Japanese cars and the v8 natural old school cars
And even i had a GMC sierra v8 2015 regular cap natrual engine with out any turbo or eco-boost engines like ford that even they don’t work a tow years with out any trouble
Yul Strokheet Al-Wauch Aks are the best guns for a bunch of people who don’t know guns. It’s baby’s first assault rifles but firearms knowledge is not widespread so for most situations it’s the best for the situation.
And to think that this Land Cruiser isn't even as large as the F250 Platinum he reviewed last year! That truck is colossal! It even makes a Hummer H2 look like a Tonka truck!
One thing you gotta commend Toyota for is how they are still selling a real SUV. Unlike most large SUV's these days that are so focused around the suburbs that they lost their off-road and rugged credentials, this is the real deal, the Land Cruiser is still a rugged and off-road capable machine. It makes a Range Rover seem like a luxury sedan in comparison.
@@abd-alrahmanghaly3839 ever been to desert safari ?? I have seen all land crusiers there. The amount of torture the car takes and still the car runs without any problems is just insane engineering to me
My parents purchased a 1999 LX470 one week before I was born, and I learned how to drive in that same exact car. I am currently 20, and that vehicle continues to run strong with 289,000 miles on it. Toyota did an amazing job with the Land Cruiser/LX line.
Just purchased a similar vintage LC! Very super solid, even all these years later. People (who obviously aren’t car ppl) think it’s only a few years old, especially when they drive it.
I am 19 now, and I drive 2001 LC, some people think that it’s something boring and not cool at all, but that’s because they never had contact with that vehicle. Love this car so much!
Actually, probably closer to $20k on gas. But I knew that going in. I would have thought the maintenance costs would have been higher, especially since I get everything done at the dealer. It’s actually cost me less to maintain than the Honda Pilot I replaced it with. The only reason I’d replace it would be if they decide to change the motor.....I like the V8, don’t want a turbo. If they announced they were going to switch engines I’d go buy a new one with the naturally aspirated V8.
If we are speaking of reliable cars, I have an EV Volt 2012 with 400,000mi smoothly running, bought 20k used with 6K miles in it & literally all the gas and maintenance savings i made from driving 100mi back&forth from work "freely" paid for it.
They front end the cost of the vehicle because it won't be in for service that often. Other cars back end the costs with less reliability and more trips to the shop.
Agreed. This is my second "Cruiser". Just took delivery of my 2020 Land Cruiser yesterday! Blizzard White Pearl with Terra Cota interior. It actually handles remarkably well for its size/weight. Anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't driven one or hasn't had enough experience driving larger vehicles to make such a statement. No, It'll never handle like a mid engine sports car. It wasn't designed as such. And yes, it is a thirsty beast, but if you have to ask.....In sum, it has always been and continues to be the benchmark of off roading prowess and near bullet proof reliability, regardless of price range. All doubters, well, you just don't get it, and never will.
In Australia the Toyota Landcruiser has been one of the best selling cars for the past 2 decades. My family own a 2009 model, have not spent a single dollar on it. Definitely the most reliable car and best touring vehicle.
I own a 2000 LC. I have 258k on it, and either the check engine light is burnt out or it has never came on, not even once. Regular maintenance and that is it. By far the best vehicle made period.
There you have it. I like to buy once and be done. don't build wealth like continuously buying cheap crap to replace it every three to four years. I have a 2009 Lexus RX 350 the 242 thousand miles on it. My check engine light is broke too.😉
C Crawford That’s awesome. I know if a Toyota cargo van that went just over 900k miles before catching fire. By that point it was burning 1qt per hundred miles. Rear window was always covered in oil slime.
My new mustang has the physical ebrake. And the new Camaro has an electronic switch and a shit ton of plastic. Way more than in mustang. I made the right choice.
I actually own one exactly like this one, and I've gotta say I absolutely love it, you get practicality, very offroad capable, luxurious, and you can also use it for dropping the kids off and for work. Awesome car
What some people don't realize is that the Land Cruiser J200 sold in 'murica is only sold in the highest trim level of the Land Cruiser. In the middle east, a base model J200 LC would costs half the price. It starts from $40000-55000 depending on the country in question. The trim levels are the GX, GX.R, VX, VX-R and VX.S. The base model GX is the stripped down land Cruiser, comes only with either the 4.0 V6 Petrol or 4.5 V8 Turbo diesel. Then there's the GX.R which's the most common model in the middle east. The GX.R is the low-mid range model. The engine choices includes 4.0 V6, 4.6 V8 and V8 turbo diesel. You can have it in either automatic or a 5 speed manual. The VX, VX-E, VX.R and VX.S are the more...luxurious models similar to the one in the video. You get all sorts of "luxurious stuff" from things like leather, touch screens, rear screens, climate control, safety like lane departure, blind spot monitor...etc. Engine choices are the 4.5 V8 turbo diesel, 4.6 V8 petrol and 5.7 V8 that was featured in this video. My point is, a base model Land Cruiser costs about similar prices to a Nissan Patrol Y62, a Chevrolet Tahoe and the Ford Expedition (in the middle eastern prices, mind you). While the Tahoe and Expedition are pretty popular over here, the Land Cruiser and Patrol are more popular thanks to the availability of parts, maintain it's prices well in the used market and the famed reliability of course.
I worked at a BMW dealership before bck in 2017 and i remembered how hilarious it was to see people driving over to BMW in their Toyota SUVs to come see the new X5!? without knowing jst how much a pain in the ass owning this german cars can be. Yes! the German cars have the looks n feel and all but then its no way near to being as reliable as a Toyota. Not even close!
yeah they are good cars they wont just stop working which means they arnt that unreliable but they got so many features and things that can break even though they might not randomly die on you but keeping everything working is hard and expensive
The irony of it is tht, despite building the Supra off of a BMW Z4, it did manage to beat the crap out of it with ease. ruclips.net/video/atNosTtdUaE/видео.html
Marked Zenuasia That is not completely true. How well you take care of a car plays a big role in how long your car will last. Yeah Toyota’s are far less complex therefore there’s less maintenance to do whereas in a BMW you have all this fancy stuff that you have to take care of but it doesn’t mean it’s unreliable people just don’t take proper care of them and that’s it.
I prefer that old style hand brake /parking brake over the new electrics of even over the foot activated styles. In emergencies, you can modulate these by keeping the button pressed to slow down the vehicle. Plus I like the positive engagement feel it gives me
I have owned three Land Cruisers with a total combined miles of 700,000 miles. Seriously. They. Never. Leaked. A. Drop. Moab. Canyonlands. Sedona. Wyoming. Durango. And everywhere in between. Perfect reliability record. (Except a dead battery in Zion). By far the best vehicle on the road. And if you want better mileage, petition Toyota-to bring the Diesel to the USA. They get 25 mpg.
I'm actually looking for a new daily driver I like land cruisers but idk anybody that's had one may I ask what year you think would be best to take a look at?
I'm South African, I struggle to sleep so every night, I come here to watch Doug review the beloved land cruiser, and every night I fall asleep hearing "durability"...i haven't had a nightmare in two years.
While touring the UAE, someone told me "if you want to go to the desert, you go in a Range Rover. If you wanna come back from the desert, you go in a Land Cruiser"
Actually, the "areas to avoid" feature is really useful when you're driving in a war-torn country, which accounts for a high percentage of land cruisers sales. (Iraq, Libya, and the rest of the middle east)
Most wealthy people don't care about their clothing, I've got a millionaire uncle, stocks and owns a trailer park, he and his wife are very frugal, he even has an old calculator watch from 1980's with no watch band that he takes out and uses like a pocket watch...
Back in 2002 my father bought a Landcruiser new and he loved it, he loved that it never breaks down, it never made weird engine noises, all it needed is oil change and a filter and oil change after every 5000 KM, that was my father own rules (I learned how to drive in the LandCruiser)....in 2011 he wanted to change his car, Not because it broke cause it never did but because it just became old and he wanted something new, The car sold for half the price he paid for it back in 2002 (which is insane), He looked at the new (back then) BMW X6 and X5 and landrover and he was really close to getting the Range Rover Vogue (the seller told him that the doors where really rigid and made out of something fancy ...something like that, Im guessing high strength steel) but in the end he went and bought a 2013 Landcruiser GXR...but a version USA don't get its V6 but has all the amenities of the v8 version, but not the VXR (which is similar to the Lexus)...he still loves it, even when i bought my gen 5 viper in 2016 he got so mad (he hates sport cars) and was like "why didnt u get range rover or a landcruiser"....My dad the best Landcruiser salesperson....to him its the best car and half of KUWAIT agrees, cause u can't drive without seeing 5 on the road, even if your just walking to your neighbor's house
Ayoub AL-awadhi I drove the V6 one (My friend has it) and it is very under powered even when you full throttle it you don’t feel any power. When I full throttle my Lexus 570 or my friends Nissan patrol Nismo it feels like a jet it will push you back
Range Rover and Land rover use Aluminium so not top heavy like Landcruiser. yes only usa spells it "aluminum" but seems to be happy enough naming all the other metals -ium.
Although Doug is methodical in his evaluation, fast forward to 2021 and this SUV should be on the top of the list for 1 solid reason...RELIABILITY. This will NOT let you down unlike any other car out there. "A famous Australian saying goes that if you want to go into the bush, you take a Land Rover, but if you want to come back, you take a Toyota Land Cruiser." Enough said.
Still got my 2005 Land Cruiser! Original owner here! Msrp was nearly $65k!!! 265,000 miles, no issues! I take it everywhere! SF, LA, SD, Mojave, jawbone canyon, Carizzo plains! Everywhere it has no problem going! Super comfortable in the road and capable off road!
I have my mom's 95 which she bought new for $45k in 96! 370,000 miles and only issue was a blown headgasket when it got stolen and joyrided. And the parking brake never works. Took me a month in highschool autoshop to fix it with a new head, and now it's serving me well in college 10,000 miles later.

People posting comments here are just so ignorant hating on the Land Cruiser. It is a true expedition vehicle. Kitted out, this truck will cross deserts, tundra, and anything in between for hundreds of thousands of miles. It has always on active traction control full time 4wd and will go up anything or anywhere it can fit. It is not in the same class as American SUVs. They are simply cheap in comparison. 25 year requirements for major components... It is a monster. If you don’t understand why it costs what it does, its not for you.
I don't understand -- explain? Since this uses tried and true parts that have been around for decades and are massed produced, you would think the cost of a vehicle like this would be less. It does not add up. Furthermore, we are a throw away country (not that agree with it, but nonetheless, it is true), and at this price point, the majority of owners that buy these are doing it for status -- not longevity. They dump cars like this after the lease is over, or when the warranty expires. I understand Toyota fanboys are a different breed, but most Toyota fanboys don't buy these new. Toyota is an inflated market and there are some reasons for that, but that is the used market for people that will eventually buy one of these 15 years from now and actually use it for its intended purpose. A 25 year old car that is massed produced should never bring the price these vehicles demand -- fucking an inflated Toyota fanboy market.
Neo Smith I was with you until “mass produced.” Ever hear of they don’t make them like they used to? Older cars were better made with better quality components. Today companies opt for cost cutting as much as possible. This thing does not. So this Land cruiser is meant for those that are going to hold on to it for 20-25 plus years to get value out of their investment.
Ryan Martinage 25 yrs if you do nothing by hwy driving. All parts are going to wear out, what’s not reported is how easy it is to work on, service this pig. I rather change parts sooner than later if its easier to work on, this is true of anyone who actually drives these things for real, not just on the hwy.
Actually LandCruiser has one of the worst parking brakes ever. I know because I had 5 different LandCruisers and they always need readjustment every month. Wonder if Toyota has fixed this issue for the 200 series.
@Dan Tallsten well, russian officials are generally really corrupted and tend to steal from anywhere they can so, no trips to Ukraine are even necessary
Great video! Thank you Doug for highlighting the features of the LC to my wife and I. Living in Arizona, you get harsh weather conditions. In the summer, the heat can exceed 108 degrees. You also get heavy rain monsoon thunder storms towards the end of the summer that result in flash flooded roads and trails. In the winter, it goes down to freezing temperatures in places as far south as Tombstone and heavy snow on the mountains as far south as Mount Lemmon, AZ ( there is a ski resort). So, you can go from rock crawling, mud splashing or flooded road crossings in the middle of the desert to a 3-4 ft of snow on the mountains within a 30 minutes drive. So, when I was looking for a vehicle that can conquer the Arizona trails/roads, offer a comfortable ride on long road trips, good power for long HWY climbs, high reliability, low maintenance cost and high resale value; The Land Cruiser was then only choice. (From the 4Runner to the G Wagon, the LC is our choice) For 2020 the LC Heritage Edition is better configured for the adventurer type. Hopefully, you will review it soon. By the way, I found a good video in RUclips that highlights the off road capability of the LC. Let me know if you would like me to send it to you.
I'm still driving the same 25 year old 80 series Landcruiser up and down from the farm. It goes through gravel roads, often times uneven and with potholes. It's still going strong, these cars are very reliable and are real work horses. I'm also using a 100 series for long distance travels on sealed roads. Might just skip the 200 series and get the future 300s if there's ever a need for another one.
Bought a 2018 TLC a month ago.I had owned a 1997 (J80) TLC for a while,20 years ago, but traded it because of the poor fuel economy and seats that must have been designed for a shorter person. After having just about every SUV on the planet (LR Discovery,ML 450,Audi Q7,BMW X something,Bronco,Blazer,Geesh),I came home. This '18 TLC is the absolute best thing I ever bought. At my age of 70,it will outlast me and perhaps another couple of generations.I just want to drive it all day.Fuel consumption is no where near as bad as I have seen posted on RUclips.Doug, you are the best.I love the fact that your honesty supersedes any ass kissing necessary to obtain autos for reviewing.Keep up the good and entertaining work.
The official car of Saudi Arabia(its almost literally in every house) , and it is truly put to the test here and it passes with flying colors. Fun fact the land cruiser here comes in so many configurations I would bore you listing it here. Also it comes in a smaller series named land cruiser series 70, and if it was sold in the US it would totally destroy the Jeep Wrangler. shalowl5 Except that our Toyota dealer Abu Jameel is a crooked thief who strips the cars from their extra accessories and resells them. That asshole is the only reason why I can't get to love Toyota.
yeah I wonder if it's still as small as the old ones. On my 95 LC, the seat base is only like 8-10 inches off the floor, and maybe 8 inches from eat in front of you. Thankfully feet can go under the middle row a little bit. It's hardly an improvement over sitting on the ground (same overall position, just cushioned and you have a lap belt).
@@nickopedia5669 your right . those rear seats look like shit , fuck all leg room and it looks like you'd be basically crossing your legs like a primary school kid. these big SUV's "practicality" really isn't as good as everyone assumes , sure its got the extra 2 seats but can 2 doug demuro's fit in the back without issue? likely not . with the 3rd row down and in place like its meant to be the luggage space is garbage ... luxury SUV's are overrated in the practicality front in my opinion .
The Land Cruiser still has a traditional parking brake because it has serious off-road capabilities. There are times when a traditional parking brake is helpful in negotiating different types of terrain. This is the same reason they continue to use a smaller wheel/tire combo as well.
Virtually impossible to make a trip on Australia, not even to the corner store, without seeing one of these things. Thankfully you can get one here with a turbo diesel which doesn't need all the fuel in the world to move it, 9.5L/100km instead of 18...
I really wish we got the diesels here in the US. My 95 land cruiser gets 13-14 mpg (20-21 L/100km). And it doesn't have a lot of power either. Good low end, but flooring it on the freeway doesn't get you much. (like 5 seconds from 65 to 70 mph, and that's nearly redlining it)
Great review. I hated land cruisers growing up but i as i got older i learned just how much more reliable they were compared to land rovers jeeps and hummers and why in places where you would die if your vehicle broke down they only drive these. You missed a few things though 1. The Landcruiser cost this much in America because the chicken tax the us employs a 26% sales on trucks and suvs not built in america. Which is why toyota and nissan build their vehicles trucks to avoid it. Toyota said they can't get the quality durability and reliability out of a us factory so they buid it at the greatest auto factory in the world in terms of the awards it receives. So in other countries you can get a Landcruiser for almost half the price so to absorb the cost of the tax Toyota sends the trucks here fully loaded 2 the 3rd row doesn't fold not because the axles. Its because for NATO and the UN and other military organizations they put an additional gas tank to give the diesel version almost 1000mi cruising range in remote areas. 3 the 3rd row blank you saw includes features like power rear seats and climate controls in the lexus lx570 thats on the bottom of the center console of the landcruiser 3 the 200 series shares most of its components like rear differential and driveshaft with toyotas medium duty box trucks just like the Toyota tundra and based on weight and payload is actually considered a 3/4 ton vehicle in other countries 4 the reason the seats are so soft is because they are semi aniline leather. Meaning it is leather that is twice died through for a deep and rich color. Also the cows are free roaming from farms that do no have barb wired fences so their skin is blemish free. Only rolls royce use free roaming cows and this leather is optional on higher end lexus cars besides this amd the lx570 5 on the lexus version an entire tree is cut down that way the grain of the wood is consistent throughout the entire vehicle. Also the wood on the Landcruiser is fake because its more durable in harsher climates like Iceland and the Russian Siberian wilderness 6 the gx460 is the light duty or half ton version called the Landcruiser prado for people who need a Landcruiser but want a smaller size. Its built in japan alongside of this and built on the same durability standards 7 also the Landcruiser is built on a 26 year 600,000 mile product cycle before its first major overhaul. So basically after that maintenance schedule the truck is good for another 26y 600k miles 8 it is the official vehicle of the United nations and they buy over 100 a day and drive them for 10 years or 300,000 miles before retiring. Whether traveling the hottest deserts delivering aid to worn torn areas or driving over extreme cold artic conditons rescuing stranded people. 9 it is also the longest running vehicle to NOT have a recall. Meaning the lx570 lx470 lc450 and Landcruiser haven't had a recall since the early 90s 10 when the 200 series first came out in 2008 it beat the then new jeep wrangler rubicon for 4x4 of the year. Its kdds suspension had a better rti and its crawl control could climb up sand dunes the jeep bogged down in 11 the lx570 and Landcruiser have the thickest front windshield fixed to a regular production vehicle toavoid rock chips 12 in other countries they come with center and rear locking differentials, snorkels, vinyl seats, no carpet with a hosable floor and front mounted winches. And thee rear hatch has barn doors with troop carrier side facing 3rd row like the old land rover defender for quick personal deployment in hostile countries 13 and lastly the a pillar b pillar c pillar and d pillar have an integrated roll cage so if you roll over offroad you can flip it back on its wheels and drive home. It also has a button to deactivate the side airbags so they dont deploy in serious off road jumps and extreme camber situations 14 the calendar schedule thing has been in lexus and Toyota cars with navigation since 2007. 15 the landcruiser 80 series was the first vehicle to cross Antarctica without breaking down in the early 90s. The Toyota hilux was the first vehicle to drive to the north pole withou breaking down on Top Gear
My dad owns one of these and one of the really annoying things is the plastics, the interior is filled with questionable quality plastics that might last long but feel and look pretty damn cheap.
Well our one has 500,000 miles on it so I am very glad that they do last a long time. The ones that feel nice when new will look a lot worse than the cheaper plastic ones after 500,000 miles.
Well , people have different ideas on quality , as an old ex mechanic that's had a lot of cars , seen a lot of cars , i have no qualms about the the interior quality in these vehicles , it may not be quiet as cosmetically attractive as some cars, but it is still quite good and will last for years . It is kinda funny that people talk about smart phone's and the premium feel of glass over plastic , yet one drop and that premium feel is toast , but years later the plastic phones still work like beauty. Perspective 😁.
No no no you've got it all wrong! "They say the best truck to take to the Outback is a Land Rover. But they also say if you want to Get Back, you being a Toyota."
I strongly believe the reason Toyota hasn't updated the fuel economy is because that requires a more complicated engine management system and ultimately more complexity=Less reliability. Sure, you can use a smaller displacement turbo charged V6 or even 4 cylinder but to make the same HP. The deal breaker is low RPM torque. The Land Cruiser makes a HUGE amount of torque and therefor power at a low RPM (under 3.5K) with these newer turbo charged engines you will likely have to rev well over 5K to get the same power and higher engine speeds = faster engine ware. Even some new turbo V6 produce shockingly good torque at relatively low RPM but that requires a very complicated engine management system. It's hard to beat a simple low revving, high torque, N/A V8 made of modern materials... In terms of reliability anyways.
Turbocharged direct injection gas engines overwhelmingly improve torque at low revs dramatically. Your view is very outdated. A turbo petrol engine, not a performance car version, lowers the revs that maximum torque is attained to around 2000rpm and very much more of it than otherwise.. There's nothing intrinsically complex about their engine management system. ``It is all controlled by the engine's ECU [electronic control unit] which is just a computer system. All the cats and sensors are already present on the existing non turbo engine, You will not find non-turbo units in diesel vehicles these days and it is increasingly present on petrol/gas engines.
Agreed Trusty old iron.. my Toyota mechanic said the new 3.5l is way less reliable then the old 4.0l in the 4runner.. luckily I got the 2016 with the 4.0l
@@hedydd2 Adding a turbo will always make an engine less dependable in the long run. When a turbo is added to an engine you add turbo shaft bearings, shaft seals, more vacuum equipment and or electronics, all things that can go wrong. Direct injection is a relatively new technology In gasoline powered engines. Especially when compared to Multi Port Injection. One issue I'm aware on a few D.I. engines is rapid coking of intake valves and ports. likely due to the fact there's only air flowing through them and no fuel which acts as a slight solvent keeping them clean in an M.P.I. engine. I'm sure, In time direct injection will get refined as it offers so many benefits to performance, fuel economy and emissions. But until direction injection gets more refined, the tried and true simplicity of a N/A M.P.I. engine is always a safe bet for dependability but not economy. Also ECU stands for Engine control unit not electronic control unit.
@@trustyoldiron5416 You can carry on living in the past if you like. If you buy one of these today and look after it and you are not in one of the rust-bucket areas, it will transport you happily for 20 years. Not wanting to run it for 20 years? Then what are you worried about? Plenty of turbo Diesel engines, including my own Land Cruiser, running reliably for many hundreds of thousands of miles. Turbo should last the life of the engine and usually does, if not abused.
@@hedydd2 Diesel engines used to be quite simple even early turbo diesels were. But I assume you're not from the US as you mentioned "petrol" instead of gasoline and you have a diesel Land Cruiser (I'm jealous). As of a few years ago In the US we have D.E.F. and selective catalytic reduction. Modern diesel engines (in the USA specifically) across all brands are not reliable at all largely due to massive amounts of emissions equipment and are incredibly expensive to own in general. For example to replace a set of injectors on a 6.0 International Navistar turbo diesel V8 will push well over 1.5K and can run as high as 3K USD and this is not an uncommon repair. With the advent of ceramic bearings and the variable-geometry turbo I've seen turbo failure rates increase dramatically. I have a 2001 100 series Cruiser with the 2uz-fe N/A V8 with over 269,000 HARD miles on it and I've never had to do so much as normal maintenance to it. I also have a 1976 300d with a OM617 I5 engine. Again, simple wastegate turbo and simple mechanical injection over 200k no major issues.

Horseback Grill serves the finest diplodocus in the world.
;)
Diplodocus is one of the more common dinosaur fossils found in the middle to upper Morrison Formation, between about 154 and 152 million years ago, during the late Kimmeridgian age.[4] The Morrison Formation records an environment and time dominated by gigantic sauropod dinosaurs, such as Apatosaurus, Barosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Brontosaurus, and Camarasaurus.[5]
Diplodocus is among the most easily identifiable dinosaurs, with its typical sauropod shape, long neck and tail, and four sturdy legs. For many years, it was the longest dinosaur known. Its great size may have been a deterrent to the predators Allosaurus and Ceratosaurus: their remains have been found in the same strata, which suggests that they coexisted with Diplodocus.

One thing you gotta commend Toyota for is how they are still selling a real SUV.

@@mazharbang yeah here are mostly all mountains, volcanos, and rivers all around and those trucks are like for it so and sometimes in the farms have roads made of mud, rocks, big univeness and just great trucks are capable of going for those ways while they are carrying big charges even tons on the cabine so the experience of 4x4 is amazing here
People posting comments here are just so ignorant hating on the Land Cruiser.

If I need to use my parking brake, I want to know 100% that it's going to function. Thumbs up to Toyota for the mechanical parking brake.
Indeed . I never trust electronics when it comes to that
Actually LandCruiser has one of the worst parking brakes ever. I know because I had 5 different LandCruisers and they always need readjustment every month. Wonder if Toyota has fixed this issue for the 200 series.
Right? I really dislike salesmen who cut corners on the engineers all the time to save a few dollars.
That's ironically the LCs weak point, the wire loses tension and needs readjusting periodically

(From the 4Runner to the G Wagon, the LC is our choice)
For 2020 the LC Heritage Edition is better configured for the adventurer type.
Hopefully, you will review it soon.
By the way, I found a good video in RUclips that highlights the off road capability of the LC. Let me know if you would like me to send it to you.

Just for the booty view 😟
yeah I wonder if it's still as small as the old ones.

Impressive thing
Not to mention diesels are significant more robust than petrol engines
I really wish we got the diesels here in the US.
My 95 land cruiser gets 13-14 mpg (20-21 L/100km).
And it doesn't have a lot of power either. Good low end, but flooring it on the freeway doesn't get you much.
(like 5 seconds from 65 to 70 mph, and that's nearly redlining it)
@@nickopedia5669 What do think, it is just a truck with a suv body on it.

Great review. I hated land cruisers growing up but i as i got older i learned just how much more reliable they were compared to land rovers jeeps and hummers and why in places where you would die if your vehicle broke down they only drive these. You missed a few things though
1. So in other countries you can get a Landcruiser for almost half the price so to absorb the cost of the tax Toyota sends the trucks here fully loaded
2 the 3rd row doesn't fold not because the axles. Its because for NATO and the UN and other military organizations they put an additional gas tank to give the diesel version almost 1000mi cruising range in remote areas.
3 the 3rd row blank you saw includes features like power rear seats and climate controls in the lexus lx570 thats on the bottom of the center console of the landcruiser
3 the 200 series shares most of its components like rear differential and driveshaft with toyotas medium duty box trucks just like the Toyota tundra and based on weight and payload is actually considered a 3/4 ton vehicle in other countries
4 the reason the seats are so soft is because they are semi aniline leather. Meaning it is leather that is twice died through for a deep and rich color. Also the cows are free roaming from farms that do no have barb wired fences so their skin is blemish free. Only rolls royce use free roaming cows and this leather is optional on higher end lexus cars besides this amd the lx570
5 on the lexus version an entire tree is cut down that way the grain of the wood is consistent throughout the entire vehicle. Also the wood on the Landcruiser is fake because its more durable in harsher climates like Iceland and the Russian Siberian wilderness
6 the gx460 is the light duty or half ton version called the Landcruiser prado for people who need a Landcruiser but want a smaller size. Its built in japan alongside of this and built on the same durability standards
7 also the Landcruiser is built on a 26 year 600,000 mile product cycle before its first major overhaul. So basically after that maintenance schedule the truck is good for another 26y 600k miles
8 it is the official vehicle of the United nations and they buy over 100 a day and drive them for 10 years or 300,000 miles before retiring. Whether traveling the hottest deserts delivering aid to worn torn areas or driving over extreme cold artic conditons rescuing stranded people.
9 it is also the longest running vehicle to NOT have a recall. Meaning the lx570 lx470 lc450 and Landcruiser haven't had a recall since the early 90s
10 when the 200 series first came out in 2008 it beat the then new jeep wrangler rubicon for 4x4 of the year. Its kdds suspension had a better rti and its crawl control could climb up sand dunes the jeep bogged down in
11 the lx570 and Landcruiser have the thickest front windshield fixed to a regular production vehicle toavoid rock chips
12 in other countries they come with center and rear locking differentials, snorkels, vinyl seats, no carpet with a hosable floor and front mounted winches. And thee rear hatch has barn doors with troop carrier side facing 3rd row like the old land rover defender for quick personal deployment in hostile countries
13 and lastly the a pillar b pillar c pillar and d pillar have an integrated roll cage so if you roll over offroad you can flip it back on its wheels and drive home. It also has a button to deactivate the side airbags so they dont deploy in serious off road jumps and extreme camber situations
14 the calendar schedule thing has been in lexus and Toyota cars with navigation since 2007.
15 the landcruiser 80 series was the first vehicle to cross Antarctica without breaking down in the early 90s. The Toyota hilux was the first vehicle to drive to the north pole withou breaking down on Top Gear
Am i supposed to read this?
Awesome... Thanks for all the tidbits. I really wish they would give other options for the US, particularly I would want a locking rear diff.
"why in places where you would die if your vehicle broke down they only drive these"
Thankyou for taking the time to right all of this. As an australian that loves their landcruisers there were a few new facts i enjoyed!
Still stuck at the free roaming cows part.. wow! you are so thorough and detailed. So impressive

Well , people have different ideas on quality ,
as an old ex mechanic that's had a lot of cars , seen a lot of cars , i have no qualms about the the interior quality in these vehicles , it may not be quiet as cosmetically attractive as some cars, but it is still quite good and will last for years .
It is kinda funny that people talk about smart phone's and the premium feel of glass over plastic , yet one drop and that premium feel is toast , but years later the plastic phones still work like beauty.

Simple answer: you never need to buy a new car, this car will last you forever
And it can go pretty much anywhere on the planet.
Yet he scores it an 8 for quality. wtf?
Ieven if u had a old landcruiser its still lit it got V8 ENGINE
Yea, ok....sure it will
Ma Ss what is your stance here?
All the cats and sensors are already present on the existing non turbo engine,
You will not find non-turbo units in diesel vehicles these days and it is increasingly present on petrol/gas engines.

You can carry on living in the past if you like.
