  • Mat's got his hands on the V8-powered Toyota Land Cruiser! It's one of the biggest SUVs on the road, and it dwarfs the Prado edition we receive in the UK! On the surface, it may seem almost identical to the 2009 edition, but given it's got a 5.7-litre V8 under the bonnet that'll produce 381hp and almost 550Nm of torque, does it really matter? Well, it certainly might when you consider it costs $85,000! Join Mat for a closer look at this super-sized SUV!

      Stormwatch153 Would you clarify, please?
Anyway, to elaborate, for $75K, you get an Alexa-like infotainment system, hybrid system, smoother ride to be more all terrain, and better accleration and handling, because the batteries are in the rear creating a more balanced weight distribution. All those things Toyota does not have. I can have more fun driving the GLS and in a couple of years spend the savings on fixing those things, though hybrids are supposed to be more reliable than an ICE-only car.

But to be honest here in Australia I believe people buy these vehicles blindly due to brand name only because as far as I'm concerned the LandCruiser, Prado and Hilux have one of the ugliest plastic interiors when compared to other manufacturers.

That thing needs to drive to puddles of salt water and not fall to pieces 2 years later. That thing must be able to be roughly pulled out some place it might got stuck without tearing the frame to shit. This thing must be able to fall on some rocks to the underbody without it sacking through this axels or have fluids leaking. asad khan okay... to be clear I’m not trying to insult the land cruiser. I’m simply providing constructive criticism that I have for it since I drove it. As for the Cayenne, yes the repair bills are expensive but they kind of go under the radar in terms of attention. People only really appreciate them when they get in because of the build quality and materials. Plus! Porsche’s are very reliable despite being German, sure there’s the occasional one that craps out but I’m afraid there is the occasional Toyota that does that too.

Harbir Brar But $85K is still too much, though. A more economical buy would be a Dodge Durango RT with a 5.7L HEMI engine. It may not be as luxurious as an MB GLS 450 but it would be $20K to $30K less than the Land Cruiser. Also, the HEMI engine seems simpler than the LC’s because the HEMI only has a SOHC while this one has DOHC. So, maybe the Dodge can last longer than the Toyota, even.

@@saintbarnabasshackles2437 Yes, because it's so easy to convert 13mpg (US) to l/100km within seconds for it to stay relevant and not get lost in a video.
Let me show you how you can make it in seconds.
First you have to calculate how many km is 13 miles - 13*1,609=20,917 km
Then you convert one US gallon to litres - 1 US gal=3,785 l
When you have calculated it within a second (because it's so easy, you don't need a calculator), you can proceed with dividing 20,917 to 3,785 - 20,917/3,785=5,526.
Being such a bright mind as you are, you can now divide 100 with 5,526 - 100/5,526=18,096
And you have got yourself a result - 18,1 l/100km. It was so easy.
Also 235,21/mpg formula is so widely spreaded (it was a joke if you didn't understand).
Let's just hope that the presenter will mention next time as well what gallons are we using.

unlike some other cars you need to use the power tailgate. it can also be manually operated two. most cars with with these powered tailgates such as some land rovers, damage may occur. the land cruiser is design for approx 25 yrs where as most cars are for ten or less. also if your in Australia there is a 70 series version and with either a 4.somthing liter v8 or a 4.5 twin turbo diesel v8 with 650nm
