Agree, don't paint them the same color as the truck. The original design of the vehicle (as a whole) is consistent and proportional; that's why it's good looking (generally speaking). When you add all the aftermarket stuff you will disrupt that, making it a different kind of vehicle. Painting all the extras to match will be an attempt to bring it back to a consistent design but it will not and can not be proportional. It's gonna be damn ugly. When you break traditional proportions you have to own it. It's going to be an expedition rig; let it be one.
You NAILED the newer Toyota/Lexus design language with Predator. I couldn't figure out why I hated the designs so much and that's it! It's like VW/Audi and their stubborn cling to the Edsel grill. Why? Why? Why?
I think you should follow your design instinct and paint the bumper and other body parts to match the truck color. Looking forward to seeing this finished. Have fun, Tyler.
This is going to be one of your best builds! These trucks have a huge following, build it and take it to MOAB. Add lockers and the front differential is a week point. Do not forget the differential drop kit to keep the front axles in line after you lift it.Subscribed!

druid Yes, in the US market, although the foreign market Toyota Land Cruiser HZJ105, which had a 4.2L inline six turbo diesel, manual transmission, solid front and rear axles (all non J105's were independent front suspension), was far cooler. Plus, it was also a stripper model with no creature comforts, barn doors, no chrome, no black plastic crap on the bottom, and vinyl seats. The BJ73 is also really cool.
Over the past 12 months Ive had a rash of people rubber necking my car in traffic and rolling up on me at the gas pump. They often go on their way looking puzzled when they finally spy the Rav4 badges. Mine is an odd duck 5spd manual,full time 4x4 (60f-40r bias split), optional e-locking transfer case (50f-50r no bias), limited slip rear dif with 5:13 gear ratio (front dif as well), extra oem sheetmetal skid protection , 5 door Rav4 are pretty unusual with this drivetrain combination. They sit a smidge taller than the fwd examples and even the 4x4 automatics. Then throw in the optional oem flared wheel opening mouldings my Rav4 wears. Im not sure what people think it is but theyve become curious over the last year or so.
Mark Kibbe the HZJ105 is basically the same shape as the one shown in the video, just with almost no luxury features, black bumpers and a snorkel. An amazing off-roader. Never really liked the J73 though

I absolutely love these Lx470s/Land Cruisers. My mom has had her 05 Land Cruiser for 14 years with 250,000 miles on it. My Sri Lankan friend has an 03 LX470 with 340,000 miles on it. I’ve driven these car thousands of miles and I think they have great personality.
HOOVIE!! Ok. Here's what ya do for the bumper. Bedliner it or whichever brand name you choose, then paint OVER that with rattle can color match paint and gloss clear and you'll be in good shape.
the last 7 minutes of this video were very satisfying for me cause you basically fixed all the things i was thinking for the first 7 mins a land cruiser just looks naked to me without a bullbar the snorkel and the rock sliders just give it that extra touch. but i don't think painting them beige is the best look stick with black or maybe chrome.
My dad had a 2003 Corolla that was built about 20km away from our house. It also had over 375,000km. My mom wouldn't let him get rid of it as long as it still ran but he hated it lol. He finally sold it after they divorced. Toyotas last forever XD

If you leave those parts black they will actually balance themselves out with the rest of the vehicle. If you paint them it will be unique but if you ever go rock climbing, expect deep scratches in that fresh paint, just something else to consider Hoovie.
This is going to be an awesome project man! Keep the rock-slider and bush bumper black, and get some black fender flares and black roof rack, it will all tie together with the black snorkel
I am so hating you for this, this is my ultimate dream truck. You are doing a great build and a classy build. I have a 2006 Tundra crew 4x4 and i am going to start doing a build too, i just rolled a 138,000 and its running strong. I run the Same BFG AT’s tires and they are great good ride on the street and pretty good off road. I have almost 30k miles and they have lots of life. I have been rotating them every 6K oil changes miles. I am looking forward to more videos , thank you.
The Lexus lx470 and the Toyota Land Cruiser from 98-07 I think are one of the best made period. The styling was good not over styled and their quality of their interiors is one of the best
Been going a year to complete my OME lift/knuckle rebuild/undercarriage clean-up on my FJ60. Compliments to my other nine black holes I own. I had a wizard and too many people found out about him.
I would paint-rino the bumpers to match the Toyota. When you cut the hole in the fender you should keep the metal you remove and get a good bodyshop to patch the hole in the rear lift gate with it. That would be much easier imo than trying to find one and then paint to match. Great video !!

what about ARB Differential breathers? a GARMIN GPS (Overlander one), a CB Radio (11mts) a Cobra Should do. Also, get what we called the ¨dieaper¨ for the winch cable, so if you ever use it to pull the Lebaron...and the cable snaps, it´ll go right to the floor and not your head.
Looks like a cool project. Recommend you also get an external transmission cooler and scan gauge to monitor temps. The extra weight and tire diameter will likely put extra strain on the powertrain.
Here I am looking at Lexus LX 450s on Autotrader to do the same thing but my pockets are not deep as yours. Yes colour match the black bits to the body colour it looks way better. Welcome to overlanding my friend.

i bought a discovery 2 for $1000 3 years ago and its leaked anti freeze the whole time and the power steering pump went out and i put mud tires on it. Pretty reliable besides having to check the anti freeze every few days

snorkels are for dusty conditions NOT going in deep water, so desert terrain is where snorkels come in handy

I've had 3 discoveries, currently own 1 D2. They're good trucks; not for everyone (most people for that matter).
If you coat the bumpers and rock sliders use UPOL Raptor Liner.

You could easily keep the AHC and fit a small lift/larger tires. You likely just need to service the AHC as the PO likely didn't.
