Parts falling off a Land Rover is a design feature. It is there so you can find your way back by following the trail from the middle of nowhere to civilisation.
I sold my hooptie fleet and bought the cheapest cruise ship in the country, the SS United States. She's floating on the river in Philadelphia, so now I just have to figure out how to get her delivered here to Wichita and have the Wizard take a look.
Can we just appreciate that Hoovie went out of the car at those high altitudes, ran out of breath a couple of times just to get external shots of the car? Loving the video man!
Because he is British and he would never swallow that but he tried to kill the toyota hilux 4x4 and didn't succeed and now it's the main car of the show top gear
Land cruiser is the best combination of comfort and reliability. . . Better than land rover, jeep, or any other SUV anything more comfortable is wayyyy less reliable (land rover) and its pretty good looking, compared to some other SUVs. . .
I love land rovers, i am a former land rover technician. They are great cars but they do require maintenance just like any other car. I have owned everything from series to range rovers and i absolutely love them.
Couple tips. Throttle application is key with these trucks because they weigh so much. You don't have to be timid with it, giver' hell. Also, airing your tires down really helps the truck climb up that loose gnar stuff. But i'm stoked to see you using your 100 as it was intended
I found his "channel" on Pelican Parts (Mercedes shop.com) when he was in High School. Tyler is a true Renaissance man; one of a kind thinker and go getter. Tyler is one of my heroes even though I am much, much older than him.
Another Hoovie's Garage impressive Land Cruiser episode of *Clothed And Afraid.* The funny comments, the cleverness, the hilarity, the wardrobes, the wit... Man, I love this channel!
I was off-roading my 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser practically all day long a few days ago. It has 262,000 miles on it and it’s completely stock. It’s got the optional chrome rims, still has the running boards on it and it stills has amazing clearance. All day long, this thing gave me no problems. I was only in 2 wheel drive for most of the time, even I’m really steep trails. I only put it in low gear when I was going down those really steep trails.
In Africa we had a saying, "If you want to get into the bush get a Land Rover but if want a guarantee that you will get out of the bush again get a Land Cruiser.
i really appreciate all the extra work you must have done to get all the different camera angles it makes it a whole lot more interesting to watch than most car videos on youtube
I only come to see Hoovie when he uploads a video about Land Cruiser.. Really love those cars shame i can't buy one even an old one (too poor) hope Hoovie sees this and may makes my dream come true :(
Can't be a top gear episode, doesn't fit some sort of PA system to annoy Hammond, or fit some ridiculous gadget to the outside, like a BBQ grill, also in reality Clarkson's waaay fatter, and funnier.
I mot'ed a land cruiser last week with 746000 miles on the clock in the uk amd it has only had 3 clutches, a turbo rebuild once and thats it. Full origanal running gear
Thats a good achievement bro.. If it makes u feel any better.. We finally sold our 100,000 mile 2004 cayenne turbo for 3000 dollars.. Engine and turbo failure was one of the main problems.. Glad to see u doing well in ur lexus which is almost a dexade older and 300000 miles!! Pure japanese reliability! Keep it up!
Love it when you recognise the beauty you find yourself in. That makes the video. Too many folks would miss that in their own self worry etc. LCs rule.

I endedup buying it, the guy bought from original owner and put 30k miles on it. Only thing is it came from PA area. Skid plates are missing prob from rust. I have over 8k in bills from fixing the air suspension including new lines and shocks, new brakes/rotors and brake lines. New fuel tank/pump. He wanted 6k I got it for 4k. Hoovie would you be proud? This is new best video in your channel. From quality perspective. I love it. And I have to say, that I want LC/LX so badly right now... Not that I'm going offroad a lot, but just knowing that this car is so capable and reliable...
my landcruiser hasn't even had its low range used for 8 years.... i tested it out recently and it goes straight into low range without a hassle. though for me it was stuck in low range. had to use so much force to put it back into high.
This episode was impressive in every way!! The car, the route, the premise and all. Congratulations, a new standard for you! Really cool. I wouldn't have dared drive up there and I don't think you've had too much experience with it either so it was gutsy of you.
As I remember ،For the Land Cruiser, I expect you to : 1- put The gear on the natural. 2- pull The second gear “up“ and move it while it is up for a low, *other ways you will break it !
Agreed. I was thinking if a weather tower is up there, then it must be maintained, and maintenance trucks are bone stock, and they make it. The worst part was the puddle.
It was no tough track that’s for sure. I’ve got a friend who has one of these and shit always needs doing. Last was the abs module because it was leaking. It always stinks of gas fumes, air con is intermittent, AC compressor has been replaced twice, it has rod knock, goes through cv joints, has terrible range/economy among other things. It’s comfortable but could do with a locker in the rear, gets stuck often on the axle twisters. It sounds good and has decent power but they aren’t as good as what many make out. The older landcruiser and hilux were more reliable, mainly because they had no power to break shit and they had very few complexities.
all motor Ya we all know that. Nobody expects him to actually do some super gnarly stuff in a near stock cruiser. He doesnt have the offroad experience to do much more than that too.
@@scottwatson2808 That's what I like keeping it real. If you're a noobie there's no shame in saying so. Just when you are and try to throwing up words to make it sound like you've been doing it for 10-15 years that's when you get in trouble. Know your limits be smart and most importantly get back home safely.
A few supertips: If you are at a stop, in neutral and your low range won't engage, let off the brake for a second and let the car move a few inches. It's usually because the points of the gear teeth are touching and it won't let them move into place with the lever. For water crossings of any depth, if you don't know what's under the water, slow down. It may only be a few inches deep, but there may be a log, rock or pothole which could catch you out and bump the steering wheel, damage a tire or wheel, or in the case of a log, get lodged in the drivetrain. I've seen people put holes in their floorboards because they took a crossing too fast and whipped a tree limb up into the cab. Don't be that guy! With the rooftop tent, rather than pushing it open as you did in the video, remove the cover, reach up to the base of the ladder, extend it out a foot or two. Holding the bottom rung, simply walk backwards and use the ladder as a lever until it folds open. This puts less stress on the hinges (the tent doesn't fall open), doesn't require shot-putting the whole tent from the bottom, and eliminates the possibility of the ladder swinging back into the vehicle. To fold it back in, just do the reverse. Retract the ladder up to mostly closed, lift up against the tent and let it fold up and forward as you walk towards the vehicle. Also, nearly all RTTs have enough space on the inside to pack some blankets/bedding on the inside. Bring a full size pillow or add a second layer of memory foam and I think you'll have a much better night. :)
Umm, the Land Cruiser is indeed a great SUV. However an old Ford truck probably made it up that trail to deliver the building supplies for the cabin. Not to mention the trucks used to build the weather station. And a garbage truck likely comes a couple of times a week to empty that dumpster. Not exactly adventure camping eh? If you're worried about bears don't camp next to a dumpster. If you want a nice camping experience, don't camp in a campground that even has one. No wonder you don't like camping.
You have it so lucky out where you are in terms of finding relatively rust free cars. I have an '05 Land Cruiser with 265,000 miles on it (same color, actually), and while it has never had a serious problem or left me stranded, or had any kind of engine or transmission problems, the New England rust is beginning to take it's toll on the body and suspension components. It's going to be a very sad day when we sell this beast soon. :(
As long as the rust hasn’t taken over the underneath of the truck u should be fine. I bought a rusty 2000 Land Crusier that lived in New England its whole life and i was surprised to see that the underneath was not that bad. Just my fenders and rear lift gate. Check you’re brake lines tho! A tank like the land Crusier would sure be tough to stop with bad brake lines.
I agree with you, and the truck is never going to stop running, but it's approaching a critical point where the rust is going to cause more damage than would be worth investing to fix, especially with the ride quality and fenders and tailgate as you said.
Well when he bought it he had to replace the entire rear tailgate, which was difficult to come by and considerably expensive, there could be more rust on it than he knows!
i hate such videos-some fake guy comes on here with an old suv and then says its the best car in the world.Maybe i should also take out my 2004 range rover and proclaim it as the best car ever ever
This video perfectly demonstrates why I hate cars like the Urus and the X6. THIS is what an SUV is built to do, not pose and take the kids to school, but to conquer mountains!
People who are not true off-roaders should not try to make off-roading videos. Had he installed the proper size gears after putting on larger tires, then low gear would not be necessary for a gravel road. Quit being a wuss and try a trail out by Moab! We can tell that is some really rugged camping, with those RVs in the background, fire rings, and charcoal grills.... and dumpster. sheesh.
Hoovie, keep up the awesome work! This is one of your best videos so far and I’ve seen them all. If you filmed this one all by yourself, major props. Had some great scenic shots, intense music to add, and that aerial view was absolute butter 👊🏻👍
Glad you made it up, and apparently, back. Your Land Cruiser is, indeed a great off-road vehicle. But you need to take it somewhere really challenging, meaning, off road. I live in Colorado, and have done some really rough off roading, a lot rougher than that. Get some experience, and you’ll be amazed where you can go!
Awesome LX470! My sister lives in Breckenridge, Colorado. That place is beautiful! I also own a Land Cruiser 120, GX470, and there's nothing like it. They're amazing go everywhere vehicles! Love your videos about overloading with the LX470!
4:30 my 2001 hyundai accent would make that hill in second gear...(the first bit - the green bit) having said that i love the land cruiser range and hope to own one before i die. i wish there was tracks like that where i live... EXCELLENT VIDEO thank you : )
When you switch to low gear, try lifting off the clutch just a bit if the shiter is stuck. Some bits on the inside move and your leaver will slide into place. Old tractors need this approach many times..
Telling you man, ever since RUclips recommended me to your videos, I just love them!!!!! Awesome stuff, especially on this landcruiser being that i'm a 4x4 fanatic!!!!!

I don't know what's more impressive, the Lexus or the fact that he did all the videoing shots of himself going up the mountain.
palakaman I was thinking that too it must of took him for ever to record this
I'm wondering how he did the drone shots while driving!
Paul Sengupta there are modes on the drone where you can ask it to follow an object or move in a certain way
Probably a Phanton 4. It does most of the job alone.
Tyler's filming skills are awesome! Look at the little clip he filmed on his "I fixed a big Mistake on my Porsche 911" video
Tyler uses hand gestures like characters from gta San Andreas
You got appreciate how much time you spend thinking about the cinematography of this video
The work that must've gone into this is phenomenal. Thank you and well done!
If Tyler has like 40 cars at 32 what is his midlife crisis going to be?
A cruise ship maybe?
I sold my hooptie fleet and bought the cheapest cruise ship in the country, the SS United States. She's floating on the river in Philadelphia, so now I just have to figure out how to get her delivered here to Wichita and have the Wizard take a look.
He needs a train
An M1 Abrams tank
LA ferret or BMP armoured car
Pffft, get a pilot's licence, and buy a ex combat jet, you Americans love that sh*t, and it's more cheaper than 40 cars
These are some high quality shots man. Great job!
They last forever, low depreciation, great for all terrains, practical,, etc. I would say yes.
They chug gas though
Safety tip: never go off-roading alone
I agree but if Hoovie can do it in a Land Cruiser then anyone can. ( In a land cruiser anyway)
I do go offroading all the time by myself, I would have a very successful RUclips channel if I recorded it...its hilarious...

Lexus is Toyota's brand so basically this car is just a fancier/nicer version of the Land Cruiser
Thank you
Lexus is a Toyota brand
Cause it is a Lexus.
This video perfectly demonstrates why I hate cars like the Urus and the X6. THIS is what an SUV is built to do, not pose and take the kids to school, but to conquer mountains!
In a Land Rover you don't even get to lose things on the way, you wouldn't get to start your journey at all. It's a shit box.
Mr BrightSide ooooh yeah
Buy the right ones Series 2 never die or the old range rovers (pre vogue) the new ones sure but a series 2 I can fix with baling wire if needs be.
lol no
László let me guess another land cruiser fetishist whose never owned anything pre disco?
My Range Rover has took so much abuse compared to these shit boxes, so ugly and slow and they do brake down quite alot
I wish we could hit the like over and over again! Great episode!
Soo...... Clickbait tumbnail?
Nope he was referencing the cabin
Best episode ever! Tyler, you're stepping up your filming game.
People who are not true off-roaders should not try to make off-roading videos. Had he installed the proper size gears after putting on larger tires, then low gear would not be necessary for a gravel road.
Quit being a wuss and try a trail out by Moab!
We can tell that is some really rugged camping, with those RVs in the background, fire rings, and charcoal grills.... and dumpster. sheesh.
That dirt road bit would be a fun rally stage.
Hoovie, keep up the awesome work! This is one of your best videos so far and I’ve seen them all. If you filmed this one all by yourself, major props. Had some great scenic shots, intense music to add, and that aerial view was absolute butter 👊🏻👍
Wow. Can't believe I've been watching you for over a year!
Some awesome camera shots!! Content quality is getting better and better.
Awesome LX470! My sister lives in Breckenridge, Colorado. That place is beautiful! I also own a Land Cruiser 120, GX470, and there's nothing like it. They're amazing go everywhere vehicles! Love your videos about overloading with the LX470!
Another great vid Hoovie you're really getting good at this
4:30 my 2001 hyundai accent would make that hill in second gear...(the first bit - the green bit) having said that i love the land cruiser range and hope to own one before i die. i wish there was tracks like that where i live... EXCELLENT VIDEO thank you : )
Nice video man . I appreciate the drone shots too
When you switch to low gear, try lifting off the clutch just a bit if the shiter is stuck.
