Landcruisers are legendary in Australia. Even a poor example of one will still set you back good money here.
Same in NZ, ive seen them still going for $20,000 with 400,000kms on the clock
Is this the same thing with the Toyota FJs? I hear the two of them hold their value like glue
Chris Moodie dont see many of those as they arent very practical, but its likely. The Prados are actually just as sought after, i have a 90 series Prado thats actually increased in value since ive had it by $6,000
Stephen Williamson I’ve seen fj55s go for 70000 and fj40s go for 140000-200000
Southern California is the land for cheap Land cruisers. Lots of em, no rust, and plenty of great deals.
354,000 Miles and still going strong, and that's why I'll stick with Toyota vehicles.

Exactly only buy Toyota. My lexus ls430 2001 has 311000 miles with regular maintenance.
I just got back from Japan and most taxis are Toyota . Saw one with 745,000 km
That impressingly shows Toyota's quality. Even a Mercedes will fall apart at this age....

Don't tell people to run out and buy these. Prices are going to sky rocket and you're going to mess it up for those of us looking for one to buy. ;)
His first Cruiser video came out right in the middle of my search last year and I was worried, but there's already so much competition for these things, especially the Land Cruiser version, that if its a good one it will be gone within a couple of days of listing. People on the forums have cash in hand and are ready to buy plane tickets to go view some rigs. I personally took 4-months to find a good one because they either all had rusty undercarriages (ALWAYS check this in pics first) or simply disappeared by the time I got on the phone. It will be the best decision you will ever make however.
@@luxcruisers7870 I've been on the hunt for an LC/470 for about a month now and I'm finding a lot issues with frame rust. If it's a southern car there's not rust but that want all the money for it. My company had them in the Sahara desert. 4.2 Liter engine 120 horsepower. The engines were unbreakable if you do regular oil change. The roads were so bad and the people driving like crazy, so the cars were gone after only 500.000 km. On asphalt they would surely last more than a million.
Tyler I have to agree with you on your experience with your 2003 BMW X5. I have one with 175,000 miles and it is eating my lunch. Over the last 2 years I've sunk close to $12 K on repairs with the transfer case being the most expensive at $5K. I cry when I write the checks to pay the bills but I gotta tell you to me it's worth it. It's drives and rides great and doesn't look like a 16 year old car. Early on when the repairs started adding up I should have unloaded this baby and got a Land Cruiser. Great video!
Yeah you should get rid of it ...
Congrats Hoovie! Still love that LC, I remember when you posted a year ago when you just got her. Landcruiser's are the best, my 96 LX450 has needed next to nothing over our last 12 years of ownership! Let me know if you need a place to dump that rooftop tent...my LX wouldn't mind carrying it around the trails, lol! Best of luck in the new house and congrats again. Stay warm :)
I got a 1948 Ford sedan for $250. It was abandoned by my neighbours a year ago. Still runs and drives properly and gets a lot of attention in a Japanese neighbourhood.
Toyota is the best car company ever. Made to last, Cheap parts. You can beat these things to the ground and they will out last any German made car. We hype up BMW, Mercedes wayy too much.
Funny thing is Toyota is made here in the US, it's more american then some of these American companies.
As a current and soon to be former Mercedes owner I agree. The Land Cruiser is made in Japan tho.
old mercs will last just as long as toyota will
@@trek3792 I own an LX 470 and have had a couple Mercedes and still own a '62 220se coupe. While, yes, both will last, the Toyota will do it for a fraction of the cost and time laid up. I've put $25,000 in the Benz in 5-years, the LX had one brake failure induced by a shop, otherwise it's just maintenance.
Yeah and people like you need to stop following the Toyota cult. Yes Toyotas are generally reliable but you guys need to stop worshipping them as indestructible vehicles that will outlive anything else. Because the truth is that even Toyotas have their fare share of of faults and problems. My VW outlived my mates Yaris for instance
totoIV lol there's literal statistic that show it cost 4x more to maintain a BMW or Mercedes. On average it cost $4k for Toyota, on average $16k to 18k for BMW and Mercedes. Not cult simple common sense
Great vehicles - for the past 15 years, I've only bought pre-owned vehicles and that's when I quickly learned to stick with Lexus/Toyota. They hold their value very well, are highly capable and extremely reliable. Currently I've got an LX 570 as my daily driver - plenty of room for the kids and their friends or their sports gear - very comfortable, good tech features and in a few years when I've got an empty nest, I'll probably get a used RCF as a daily driver and keep the LX for weekend fun and do all the stupid things like rock sliders, bull bumper, winch, etc.
Perfect plan man, LX 470 owner here, and I love the RCF too! An LC would be my dream car in that Structural Blue color.
@@luxcruisers7870 - Oh yeah - that LC is nice. I had an ISF, but it was too small for my kids' hockey bags. Unfortunately my 2014 LX was destroyed in a pileup accident on the freeway - (nobody injured), so I picked up another 2014 that only had 25k miles on it - for not much more than what the insurance company gave me for the wrecked one with 65k miles on it.
That they're built so well and are such capable vehicles is the only way we can make plans for a vehicle more than just a couple years out.
Buying a used Lexus is the way to go, reliability isn’t a concern so buying brand new or needing a warranty isn’t really a concern, let it depreciate and buy when it’s a couple years old. I’m on my third and have never had car problems ever. And I have coworkers having car problems with half as many miles
Why on earth did u buy a tent? Huge car, plenty sleeping room in car! 🤦🏼♂️
I’m currently driving a leased Audi Q5, but absolutely don’t want to own it long term - have spent the last few weeks looking at a highlander as its eventual replacement. My previous car was an 07 Camry that has 300k on the clock and is still being driven around the neighborhood - Toyota’s are amazing vehicles.
If you're looking on the used market, definitely check out the first gen Highlander. Not too sure about the longevity of 2019 model, but its due for a refresh soon. My parents gave me the old family 04 Highlander as my first car, still going strong with over 310,000km and my mom upgraded to a 2017 Volvo XC90, and boy does she regret that. Less than 30,000km on the Volvo and its been in the shop almost as many times as the Highlander has had over the years for routine maintenance.
Ryan C I’ve got 18mo on the Audi, so it’ll be a 2020 or 2021, or maybe a certified pre-owned - not looking for older I don’t believe, but not ruling it out
@@smeggy22 The current Highlander is outdated compared to the competition, but they're still flying off the lots and year over year sales continue to grow. I can't imagine the sales it'll get after a redesign. Chances are, you'll probably pay well over MSRP.
From second gen on I believe production of the Highlander was brought over to Indiana compared to the first gen which was produced in Japan preaching lean manufacturing to a tee with its Kaizen quality.
Hoovie please raffle off the roof TENT!!! You mentioned it in a previous video, we would love it!! :)

Would love to upgrade to a land cruiser one day but those things are much more expensive, hard to find second hand (especially in Canada) and don't get as good fuel economy as the Highlander.
I got one. Best vehicle I've ever owned.
Hands down, my 2000 TLC was the best vehicle I have ever owned - paid $50k in Oct 2000, paid it off in 48 months, owned it as my DD for 12 yrs (125k miles), and sold it for $18k in late 2012... outside of tires, brakes pads and normal scheduled maintenance items, never had an issue.... wasn’t ever seriously off-roaded, but did do suburban-country chores such as tow my SO’s horses to regional show jumping events, towed trailered snowmobiles and ATVs and on rare occasions, was called upon to perform trail-recovery duty for various neighbors and acquaintances who were the unfortunate owners of non-TLC 4x4 vehicles

Excellent! I bought a 00' LX470 last summer, and it's been the best car I've owned even though it's one of the oldest. Funny enough, my only regret is paying a relative premium to buy one with low miles of 115k. Really not as necessary here as with other cars.
Bumper, Rock Sliders, and Rear Bumper are next.

Avoid the "Toyota Tax"!
A new Land Cruiser is $76K while an Escalade is $64K on cars.com. While a 2009 with less than150,000 miles the LC is $26K and a Escalade is $17K. A new LX570 3-row is $92K while a 2009 is $27K.
So the LC drops $50K and the Escalade only drops $48K. Toyota LC is not luxurious and should not have that depreciation compared to another luxury marque.the LX is more like a luxury vehicle in it’s high depreciation of $65 in the last decade.

That whole setup is the whole package for me I love the rooftop tent and I love the snorkel and everything else lifted all everything around man sweet ride good job.
3 things to clear up:
1. a Land Cruiser is a 4wd (or 4x4) not an SUV
2. a snorkel doesn't just raise the air intake level so you get cleaner air, a properly fitted snorkel also prevents water ingress into your engine when driving through deeper water, does not stop water from getting into the cabin.
3. That big thing on the front is actually not called a bumper bar, that is infact called a bull bar.

I thought I was alone in thinking this was strange and I'd be driving 70 mph over those speed bumps if I had an SUV!!
That stuff you said about the snorkel is the standard mall crawler excuse for it looking awesome.
Thanks for explaining about the benefits of Just-In-Time manufacturing.
I never thought about the pros of smaller batches of manufacturing.
It's so hard to believe that this particular generation LX came out in 1998.... Certainly doesn't look like it!
@@normt5463 actually the LC starts at $85,000. Gauging car value by a seller on cars.com isn't how you judge a value of a vehicle. People find awesome deals for high priced cars all the time, doesn't mean that's what its worth. A Cadillac Escalade is a plastic abortion and doesn't compare to other luxury vehicles very well. Doug Demuro did a video a few months ago demonstrating how crappy the build quality is with it creaking and rattling. Nobody cross shops a Land Cruiser and an Escalade. One is a high quality offroad tank, the other is an expensive chevy tahoe in a tuxedo.
@@normt5463 Toyota Land cruiser vx limited diesel is more expensive than the basic one. Ours, if we buy this brand new 2018/2019 model it will cost us NZ$126,000 plus on road charge.
This and the 3rd 4runner are timeless. Toyota hit it out of the park with the design of these two
@@normt5463 your kidding right? Escalades value drops faster than my grades. The reason why the LX and Landcruiser hold their value better is because of the notorious reliability they are known for.
The best security is an ADT sign and a camera that doesn't work by your front door
I got an ADT sign, but idk if I got a security system or not. "I got a gun and a switchblade. TEST ME B__CH!!!"
A sign without subscription can actually get you in hot water? I have a sign but it came with the house :)
Hoovies back up plan: selling home security systems. You’re like a pro already.
One minute in-video ad for home security then stretching the video to 10 minutes so he can throw two more ad breaks in. Gotta love it.

"Rev up your Land Cruisers"
Love my 2009 Lexus GX!
I’m new to the channel. I like the way this guy owns up to his mistakes, and seems to be having a good time.
awesome video.... love the way the engine hums silently.... seems a smooth ride....
That “just in time” production has been around since the 1970s
Adore every gen Land Cruiser/LX they’re so special. Only SUV i want!!!!
and the new RAV4

Avoid the "Toyota Tax"!
Awesome video! Your house is beautiful! Looks like a late 80's - Early 90's build
I’m thinking his SO’s eyeballs must get a lot of exercise. 😂
Good insights about the vehicle, which I’m thinking of buying.
I love my cruiser. Look after them and they will literally last a lifetime
That Land cruiser seems good but is it as good at as Simplysafe?
I appreciate how candid you are in your review.
my dad bought a land cruiser when I was in 3rd grade and now i’m in my 2nd year of college and he still has it driving strong
A+ parking job Tyler
Talking about warped rotors, that's the only problem I have with my lx470. 😂
Such a cool and very reliable car! Hope to own one. Especially this model. They were really built to last!
Late to the vid on this one but, Landcruisers (and Patrols) are one of the few vehicles I have seen in Australia really handle the extreme conditions well, no I am not talking about driving around town, I am talking about some of the harsher off road tracks. They do break, and each model has different weaknesses (1HZ, expect to rebuilding your power steering pump alot, early V8 diesels....enjoy replacing that starter motor....newer V8 diesels.....yeah emissions controls), point is they aren't indestructible but they are a damn reliable and good car. Just don't blow that motor at least here in Aus, they cost a fortune.
