The Beatles - Come Together - Guitar Cover

- There is some amazing guitar tone on this song in both John's rhythm and George's lead! The trick is to set your amp so that when you play soft you get a clean sound and then during the choruses when you hit it hard it gets distorted. Notice how John uses the neck pickup during the verses and outro and then switches to the bridge pickup during the choruses and first solo. George plays an awesome harmony guitar solo with the neck pickup on his Gibson Les Paul and then switches to the bridge pickup for the outro solo. After the first solo there is a sort of sliding on the lead guitar from the lower region of the neck to an A note at the 10th fret. There is also some faded double stops before the outro solo.

Epiphone Casino being used for John's part was extensively modified to have all the visual and sonic characteristics of John's famous sanded Casino John played during the White Album and beyond. This Epiphone Casino was made in 2001 at the Peerless factory in Korea. The volume/tone pots were changed and the tone capacitors were replaced with Orange Drops. The neck pickup volume knob was replaced with a black one and a black "goof" washer was put underneath the pickup selector, just like Lennon's. Most notably was the replacement of the original tuners with gold, vintage-style Grover "Milk Bottle" Rotomatic tuners, the exact same kind that John had on his guitar. Interestingly, both the Inspired By John Lennon "Revolution" Casino and Limited Edition Lennon Revolution Casino do not have the milk bottle Grover tuners.

John Lennon Rhythm Guitar: 2001 Epiphone Casino (Mod)
George Harrison Lead Guitar: Gibson Les Paul Standard (2006)

George is the one who played most of the guitar here. John was clapping. George was playing is Les Paul. I think John was the one playing the dirty rhythm guitar.

SUCH A SIMPLE SONG, AND YET ITS ONE OF JOHNS MASTERPIECES 😲🤯👏👏👏
I don’t play guitar ( I wish I had learned) , but watching these videos and seeing how complex both the rhythm and leads are just makes me appreciate what totally musical geniuses the Beatles really were. I don’t think we’ll ever see another band quite like them. Keep the vids coming! They’re very enjoyable.
Not to hard to play but hard to write
You're damn right about that part about a band's talent
Hasn't happened yet and BTS isn't even close
@@thebookofeli849 Its a shame that BTS is getting recognition more than The Beatles perhaps... Bands like them literally just dance and sing. I dont see the point of them getting compared to The Beatles at all.
@@lancelot771 That’s why I don’t like people comparing the two. They are completely different bands. The only similarities are the first, middle and last letter of their band name. That’s all

John and George were amazing guitar players
Lats Niebling well said
@HMBH I don't actually think so. Of course, and no little Beatles fan can convince me otherwise, they weren't AS great as others. And that is very obvious. But no way under average. They focused way more on their vocals, the instruments were just supporting them. They could've made more out of it though...
@@2snnif270 Have you heard I Want You (She's so Heavy), Hey Bulldog, While My Guitar Gently Weeps? There are a ton of amazing Beatles songs which the guitar really spoke out not just those 3
@@realketchup6563 yeah of course! but they simply weren't as great as other guitar players of their time, like Eric Clapton, who actually played the guitar solo on While My Guitar Gently Weeps...
@@2snnif270 ig that makes sense. I don't really listen to other artist besides the Beatles so I kind of judged too quickly so my bad
I read somewhere that when the band was recording the basic track for this song, it said that John sang without his guitar, which had to have meant that George was playing the rhythm guitar instead of John.
finally someone listened to RB multitracks and did probably the most precise covers I've found out there so far. Thanks!
The comments are correct in that most of the guitar in this song was played by George. Some of the overdubs, such as the first solo, may have been John (the slide up at 2:33 is a telltale sign- it's something he often did, such as those effects at the beginning of Honey Pie and whenever he played bass; I doubt George would have put in a random bit like that). However, it is certainly possible that John played no guitar, or any instrument at all, on this track, similar to Lucy in the Sky (on which he played almost inaudible maracas over the chorus). But knowing the band's dynamics at this point, I would bet he got one or two instrumental overdubs in to assert his dominance on the track.
Who played the piano is another mystery entirely.
Paul McCartney played the electric piano.
@@Guitarplayer724Wait I thought it was Billy Preston on the piano? If that is Paul then my god he made this track so much sexier with the piano.
The main guitar part is classic John though, he played that rock riff all the time. Why don’t people think he played it?
@@SandalwoodBros Because he didn't play it. You can hear the backing track to the song; it has John on lead vocals and echoed handclaps (this was re-done via overdub), Paul on bass, George on guitar (that main part), and Ringo on drums. I'd guess George was trying to play in John's style; he may have shown him the part as he roughly wanted it played. But any guitar from John in this song would have been overdubbed, as was the electric piano and his final vocal/claps track.
When I was watching this video, automatically I started to play along with my bass, great video
Heavy influence of Chuck Berry and Carl Perkins with a twist of Lennon and Harrison.
Chuck Berry's company sued Lennon for copying You Cant Catch Me. And they settled for am agreement that Lennon obliged to sing 2 Berry's songs and you can hear it in Rock and Roll Album.
John Lennon said in an interview in the 70s; that he had been inspired by that Chuck Berry song to finish the first part of Come Together, so he was sued several years after the Abbey Road album appeared.
The part in this that I really love is the electric piano. It's so subtle, but very effective for the groove. Anyways, well done! You've got a bunch of nice guitars!
That solo tone is so mesmerizing! I'm starting to suspect you're George Harrison.
Yes , He is
GREAT stuff my friend. Love the B chord with the A root note. Nice playing.
The rhythm guitar was played by George. John did the middle harmonising solo and George did the solo fills during the outro.
Those outro guitar licks are legendary.
When it's broken down like this, it's such a simple song. Put it all together, sprinkle on some magic and POW.
First off, well done! Also, I love how playful John's rhythm playing is.
dude I got goose bumps with that electric guitar
The bridge position on your Casino sounds incredible! It is that sound that makes the song.
I love the fact that instead of going from I to IV (A to D) it goes from I (D this time) to V (A).
Didn't John say somewhere HE played the solos, trying to get a BB King-esque tone?
Ringo said....
Can you find the interview? I always thought it was george who played the solos
@@mathieuschuler366
Sometimes lennon would do the solo
@@mathieuschuler366 Sometimes John will solo

The genius of BEATLES
this was perfect. close your eyes and it sounds like you are listening to the real thing. keep it up buddy!
Thank you very much! The 95 Fender Vibrolux helps to get that Fender sound the Beatlets had at this time!
I like it haha... how much did all the modding cost for the casino?
The mods cost about $100. The most expensive part is the gold Grover tuners. The caps, knobs, and washer don't cost that much.
Not a bad price. I just got an epiphone emperor II Joe pass which has those tuners. I might change them for Grover Rotomatics, TV Jones pick ups and a bigsby. So that's gonna cost me a lot haha.
Haha! That would be a sick guitar though!
Muy bueno!...espectacular trabajo...saludos desde Argentina
I don’t understand how electric guitars work do you need an amp or a pedal and how do you make the amp or pedal sound like the Beatles?
Electric guitars work using things called pickups. They are the shiny metal bars on the guitars. Those are actually magnets that "pick up" the sound of the strings. Next, is the knobs. The knobs can vary on each guitar, but for the two guitars shown in the video, they are the same layout. There are one volume and one tone knob for each pickup (metal bar). On the first guitar shown (not the red one), there are 3 gold knobs and one black knob. The black knob is for the pickup on the right of the guitar. The gold knob right next to the black knob is the tone for that pickup. The gold knob under the black one is the volume for the pickup on the left, and the knob next to it is the tone for the same pickup. Simple, right? Next, are the petals. He didn't use pedals to my knowledge, but pedals are used to change the sound of the guitar. You can use pedals to distort the sound of the guitar (think rock guitar sound). Most guitars need to have pedals to change the sound, unlike the reply below. You cant use knobs to make a rock guitar sound. Finally, there is the amp. This is where most of the sound is from. An amp is a device that amplifies or loudens the sound of the guitar. There are many different types of amps, but I would have to write an essay for that. Basically, there are more knobs for tone and volume control. You can control how loud the higher, middle or lower notes are. To sound like the Beatles, you can either get an amp like the ones they use or use a digital amp that emulates the sound of the amp that the Beatles used. Unless you know the exact type of amp, and exact settings for the amp, you will probably never have the correct sound. But, you can make it close enough for it to sound the same. I hope this 20 chapter book of a reply helps :)

In the cover notes for the “Let It Be” album the Beatles write “Hello Free.” Listen to Free tracks like “I’ll Be Creeping” to see where Lennon got his inspiration for the riff.
Are you using a volume pedal for the Les Paul at 3:02?
I believe George may have used a volume pedal in this section (or otherwise manipulated the faders during mixing). I automated these swells in after recording in Garageband.

Great to hear it's just a standard Korean Casino that you modified. It looks and sounds amazing.
Awesome! It actually plays and sounds quite a lot different than the 1965 Elitist Casino. I think that this Korean Casino is better suited to John's later sound as it is a bit darker than the Elitist.

Absolutely gorgeous guitar, great cover
Great chords, great guitas
Great job man! I took inspiration from your video to cover this song too! It's such a cool tune, for improvisation too :D
Usually when you hear "guitar cover" you think 'a cover of a song, played on a guitar' not literally recreating the guitar.

Amasing Lennon!
Nice work. On October 6, 2019 it will have been 50 years since I first heard this song.
Good job, original, and correct.
And to think that some people thought The Beatles were bad musicians! Were they the greatest musicians of all time? No. Were they completely technically proficient? No. But were they great? Absolutely yes!
Absolutely! I would agree that the Beatles were not "shredders" by any sense of technical proficiency on guitar, nor were they the most gifted improvisers, but I would say they were fantastic musicians in that they had a fabulous mind for arrangements and melodies!
George guitar : *phew*
the way you do power chords haunts me
Great stuff my friend! I’m not sure who played rhythm guitar on this track (I think it was John; perhaps George), but regardless, John Lennon I feel needs to get a bit more respect and appreciation as a rhythm guitarist. His rhythm guitar skill set was a perfect fit for The Beatles and helped them immensely to become the greatest band in music history 💯

Great job! It's obvious that you are one with the music and not just trying to get through it and that makes a huge difference in the performance. Beautiful guitar collection too!
That is a very kind compliment! I try to imagine how the Beatles would have played their songs in the studio and it is a goal of mine to capture their fantastic sense of groove in my performances, as you have said "be one with the music"!
That is a good goal, but it is also very important (in my humble opinion) to worry less about how somebody else would approach a musical situation & instead show the world how YOU see it. That is what makes music interesting and fun. If the Beatles tried to sound like somebody else, we would have never had the Beatles music & that is too horrible to think about.
I can agree with that! For this channel, though, I try to get as close as possible to the Beatles sound and energy. But for your own music it is very important to show your style!

Thanks for your videos, they are very well done and informative. Sure keeps me going.
Can you suggest a video software that can create the type of great vids you produce (for PC, ugh). I'm sure you must be using a MAC. I've searched but I'm in the dark about such things.
Again, your vids are so well shot, great sound. Your tone really comes through.
Thanks! I use Final Cut Pro X, which I'm afraid only works on a Mac. I don't know much about PC video editing software so I'm not going to be able to recommend one to you. However, in important part of making professional style videos is to have uniform lighting, which allows the camera to capture the full range of colors. The post-production is important in finalizing the video, but the initial camera shot is key to creating these videos.
Once again you've done it!!!!

What do you do to keep all your instruments in perfect condition? I got a new bass recently without a case sadly and I was wondering what ways I could find to keep it good.
Cool! What kind of bass did you get? I keep my guitars on guitar stands, which is something you may want to consider if you don't have a case. I always wash my hands before I play and wipe the guitar down with a microfiber when I'm done. It's good to be careful where the neck is when you move with your bass so you don't bump the headstock on anything.
mattiboo I got an epiphone viola bass for the Paul McCartney look and so far it's great. And yeah as of now I am using a stand and it's not as dangerous as I thought it would be.
mattiboo Also those microfiber cloths are perfect for guitars and surprisingly I havnt seen many people in person use them!
Good to hear that it is going well for you! The microfibers are indeed great to get the grit off of the neck and also the skin oils from the body of the guitar where you rest your arm. Keeps the guitars looking nice!
