This engine sound itself is equal to music.
Webber was at his peak in that Jaguar, that car was barely a midfield car and he was racing with the top teams he extracted every millisecond of pace out of that thing.
And driving as dirtily as he could...

I think when you say "this was real f1" you mean "this was how F1 was when I got into it and am annoyed it changed" when for those who'd been watching in the 90s this was the nadir i2f boredom with cars that took away driver skill, awful qualifying and professional race after processional race

+cdname47 F1 has always been the pinnacle of intelligent design AND technology. What you are describing is NASCAR. Lots and lots of overtaking with old technology, and before you tell me how amazing the tech is now, it is not! Diesel electric motors have been around for a 100 years. That is essentially what they are, just way way way way overly complicated. Complicated does not mean that they are technically advanced, just complicated. Like how the Russian's Cosmonauts used a pencil instead of Nasa's million dollar pen. The cars suck.
I always liked how the Jaguars looked.
They looked amazing. It's a pity they couldn't get Adrian Newey sooner. The Cosworth is one of the best engines on the grid just a poor chassis relative to the competition. If they had have been winning who knows maybe Ford would have stuck with them.

he has a really unique steering technique, almost slides through the turns.
Watch youtube channel driver61, he explains it all in his video about alonso’s technique
His car setup was more prone to understeer,thats why he aggressively turns into the all types of corners.

@@motorsportministries7843 that guy said Alonso deliberately broke traction to counter the car's understeer. Warmed up the tires and got extra exit speed.

F1 has always been F1.. F1 is about technological advancements. If you're just in it for the sound (not saying you are, but a lot of people are) than it's you (or whoever) that don't share the same philosophy as F1 because F1 is not about sound and going back to these dinosaur engines would be a HUGE leap backwards and literally would make no sense business-wise.

f1 in this era had a big problem with standing up to dirty blocking. webber move after the long left hander here was probably over the line but he and people like Schumacher were allowed to shove people odd the track with no penalty.

Degenerate Faggot I know I'm very late but if you are going across a long straight and you then cut them off, the driver may not have enough time to react. But you can cover the inside or outside line into a corner when the car behind is not right behind you. From there, I think you can go back to the racing line leaving a car width beside you.

Good battle but Alonso is clearly out of position: That Jaguar is lightyears slower than the Renault and Webber did well to hold on to the position for as long as he did.

+ElReyGuiri Impossible with DRS? So the 2014 battle didn't involve DRS at all did it? (Which was heaps better then this...)
Because most of the side by side action started on the run down to Turn 1, which allowed Rosberg to get close enough. People might not like it but DRS can often be very useful in creating better battles...
I don't know, I don't think it'll create any more battling. The cars in this clip didn't go side by side or anything, kinda boring compared to today. I agree they need to go with the less aero route and more mechanical grip though to get rid of the dirty air...

Hmm, if today's cars sound like vacuum cleaners, these sound like remote controlled cars. Never thought they sounded that pleasant. I'd take the throaty roar of the mid 80's turbos or the early 90's V10s and 12s over the screeching of these.
have to say that while I enjoy these last great v 10 cars ,the early 80s and 90s do sound best.

I watched this a few times and at first I didn’t get why Mark wouldn’t let Fernando just go by, as clearly the Renault is the faster car. Then I realized I’m watching racing, and it’s literally Mark’s job to actually race Fernando, not just let him by.
