    This - THIS - is how you race. And it's why Alonso is my favorite F1 driver; he didn't force Schumacher off the track, he didn't go for a gap that wasn't there, and he didn't make any rash decisions. Instead, he bided his time, and when the opportunity presented itself, he went for it. Here's to a better half of the 2016 season and a promising 2017 season for Fernando!

    damn alonso really had a unique aggressive driving style back then. u can see how he moves his steering wheel. unfortunately he cant do it anymore in the current era otherwise he'll screw up his tyres. hope mclaren will be a championship contender next year cus he definitely deserves another title more than anyone on the grid.

    • @rumblefish9
      @rumblefish9 5 лет назад +33

      Victor Mhd His unique driving style was mostly due to the fact that the Renault cars (specifically the ones he won his championships in) were notoriously difficult to drive. He had to change his style to suit the car more. His style was even called "ugly but effective"

    • @LuisKachan
      @LuisKachan 4 года назад +2

      Rotten Apple I had the opposite thinking of that.
      For me, it looks like the renault drives itself. The traction control and downforce of that car looks pretty insane. So I think his aggressive style only works because the car is so good all around.

    • @Santalucesguy

      @@LuisKachan Glad to see I`m not the only that though so!

    • @rumblefish9
      @rumblefish9 4 года назад +36

      @@LuisKachan a little late to comment but here's the explanation.... Both the R25 and R26 had unusual weight distribution and massive structural stiffness at the rear which made the car difficult to drive. This distribution also made it easy to lose control of the car and spin out. Plus, It would tend to understeer, the lightly-loaded front tyres took longer to load up than a conventional car that was front loaded. But once loaded up, they could generate more grip for a given level of load. to speed up the slow-building of the front tyres grip into slow corners, Alonso would essentially throw the car into the curve as aggressively as he could. Alonso figured this out as a way to cope with an understeery car but it wasn't his natural driving style. Its why Giancarlo struggled because he couldn't get the car loaded up quickly so it was later on power.

    • @philipporter4433
      @philipporter4433 4 года назад +4

      @@rumblefish9 it also made it an awesome car, he had way more grip than Michael in this race, either from the car or the tyres, but a far superior package in this situation. Wont take anything away from him though, hes an incredible driver.

    It was a great car, yes. But Alonso did with Fisichella just the same one or two laps before, which proves that he was so much quicker than everybody in this race, he had something special in these conditions, thanks to the understeer and the way he makes open lines in every turn I think. In my opinion he should have won this one, after Valencia 2012 it would have been the best one... It´s also a pity because when you say Hungary 2006 seems like everybody remembers that fabulous victory of Button, but not many people remember this outstading overtake to Schumi round the outside! What a great battle, Shumi clearly with no traction but changes all of his lines to block Fernando and still stays ahead in the straight, today's F1 cars can't follow as close as these guys could through the chicanes so don't see this anymore sadly. And check it kids 1 change of direction only so he's planning that ahead of time while reacting to the faster Renault!

    Hate him for his politics and ego but what an intelligent drive...just sat there, assessed and observed Schumi's rear tires and grip level at every corner and didn't attack too much at first to relax Scumi a bit, determined which one he could attack the best and boom, before Schumi could look him in the left rear view..keeps his foot on the accelerator enough with the right grip on the left side..pull a move like that on wets is race craft at the highest level. His Suzuka 130R move on Schumi is also memorable.
