I have Addie Larue sitting on my shelf, it’s been there for years. I’ve hesitated to read it because I read ‘The Sudden Appearance of Hope’ which was published first and also has a main protagonist that no one can remember when she’s no longer visible, a book I really enjoyed. While it has minor romance elements, the book is more about identity when no one knows you exist. It’d be interesting if you read Sudden Appearance and compared the two books. Sometimes the fantasy element is minimal…in this case the premise that one can make a deal with the devil to live forever, but simultaneously be forgotten. Not all fantasy has magic; some just has fantastical ideas.

Genre it’s historical novel . In 12 th century England at time Of great poverty, war , small town begins construction of cathedral to claim wealth and security for people. This novel covers time between sinking of white ship and murder of Thomas becket , but focuses primarily on anarchy. There are adaptation in board game , television German Canadian co production , musical versions in 2016, 2017 . Ken follett ( born in 1949 ) he is welsh author of thriller and historical novels who has sold more than 160 milion copies of his works .
I DNF'd Pillars of the Earth about 1000 pages in because I just could not deal with Hamleigh. His only personality trait is "I am a man who was told no and I am ANGERY about it" and I just kept dreading his return to the story. And yeah the r*pe scenes I tended to skip..
Wait a sec... you DNF-ed the book about 1000 pages in??? The whole story literally ends at page 983... after that is the short sequel to the book. You need to redefine DNF cause you literally finished the book 🤣
I DNFd it at about 200 left of the main story, must have just jumbled the numbers in my head (dyscalculia) so after 700 pages then, I guess.. I think I had "1000" in my head as where I stopped instead of the total@@KantuMutaka
I heard that Pillars of the Earth had a lot of SA so I don't ever want to read it 😭. I'm so sorry it was such an awful experience!! I am a gamer, and I bought the Pillars of the Earth video game because it seems like a far better way to experience the story. I am only one chapter into the game but enjoy it so far.
