I love Khaled Hosseini and like your recommendations. I haven’t red Yellowface but Babel I loved and it is one of my favorite books. I would love you to read Babel and share your thoughts on it. 🙏

I read "Nothing to see here" upon your recommendation and really liked it. How weird of a concept ^^ The last book I finished a few days ago was "A thousand splendid suns". I found it in a gift box on the streets and recognized it because you talked about it, so I took it with me. Man, that was some heavy stuff. I'm from Germany and I grew up in the 90s and early 2000s. Many terms in the book and some of the politics I was familiar with but I never had real context. We also didn't talk about the Near East a lot in school. However, I'm glad I learned a lot about Islam in religion class, so I didn't go in completely blind to traditions and customs. The book provided even more context, I learned a lot and the stories of the two women was really gripping. What struck me as really positive was how Miriam and Laila experienced wearing their Burkas. In Western society, Burkas (and even Hijabs sometimes) are frowned upon. Naive people deem it as degrading (stupid, I know, but white people aren't known for being very tolerant to anything they don't know, I apologize for that). So, I grew up thinking that women who wear Burkas or Hijabs must be oppressed and unfree, I know better now fortunately. When Miriam said she was glad that nobody could perceive her, I felt for her. Laila, too. She was glad that nobody could see how injured her face was. That gave me a complete new perspective on the garment. The whole book got me so frustrated and angry at times I almost dnf-ed because I couldn't handle the sorrow, but I persisted and the last sentence had me choking up. Very powerfull.

It's okay, Rana... I may not get to this tag at all, but I might do a mash-up of it with an update of my reading since May... I know... it's almost the end of July. But perfectly regular for me at this point! I'm not gasping... much... sci-fi isn't for everyone. I hope you read something soon that gives you joy .📖😎📚

Plz plz do a long video about books that made you happy ... I personally tired of reading books that either have sad endings or the whole book is depressing :(

Assalamu alaikim Sr. Rana, That was a wonderful video. I know many people who have read or are interested in these books, and I will make sure they watch this. I learned a lot as well. I discovered these books because I had read so many books that are based on King Arthur or other European mythology, folklore or culture ( I just finished all of Wheel of Time and all of Brandon Sanderson) and I was looking for something different. I did read Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone books which are set in Russian folklore so had a little bit of a different feel to them. But these books, are really fascinating and it's really interesting how they loosely weave in Islamic terms and practices. We hear a lot about representation of minorities in books and movies. Honestly, this is the first time I've read a book that really has caused me to relate to those feelings. Anyway, jazakillahu khayran Sister for your effort. I saw Sanderson and other books I like on the shelf behind you so I'll have to look through your content a little more.

This year I only got two new books, because there's not enough space for me at my house 😔 I got Anne Frank's Diary recently, though, in a hardback edition.

Yes I clean all of the books I put on my shelves with disinfectant wipes.

I don't usually buy second hand books, but I saw is a good idea to freeze them for a bit (inside a plastic bag) to get rid of potential bugs.

مراجعة جيدة واتفق في ما يخص بعض العبارات كانت ترجمة وفعلا كانت مستفزة وواقعا بلا معنى ولا اتفق في ما يخص كيف امجد الحلواني وافق على كتابة الفيلم وضح الكاتب على لسان امجد ان دافع كان مادي وتم اختياره من قبل عبدول بناء على مقالته الاكاديمية في ما يخص العبيد والعبودية في الاسلام واتفق فعلا موقف رجوع امجد الحلواني الى الاسلام موقف ضعيف للأسف .

Hah, what a funny coincidence, I live in Finland and got the same Jonas Jonasson book from the recycling center last week 😄 I don't usually clean my second hand books, they're mostly in good enough condition but I'm also afraid of ruining the covers. I have sometimes fixed old, faded covers to be closer to the original (only cloth bound though). I think the small book that had a red dust jacket and green cover is prettier without the dust jacket. I also remove the jackets if I think the "real" cover is nicer ☺️

I had the identical reaction to Yellowface. First off, the main character was seriously one of the most obnoxious people I’ve ever met in a book. I got to the middle and couldn’t turn another page, but kind of wanted to see what the outcome was so I skipped to the end. Ugh! I think you were generous with your rating.

You are not the only one who buys books just because of their cool cover…I almost bought one last night because I just adore the cover. Fortunately Amazon lets you read a sample and the writing was just not something I wanted to read over 700 pages of. But OMG, such a gorgeous cover! I like the simple pink spine of the poetry book, it would pop on the shelf and remind me of its existence. Otherwise, I like the green of the naked book. As always, lovely to hear from you!

Cleaning up the books is part of the fun. Sandpaper can help clean the edges of the pages. And a little alcohol can help remove sticker remains. Happy Reading!

I agree with a lot of what you said. I am a slow reader myself and I love taking my time with books. But I do want to address one important point here about how Booktube is not adding as much value to readers as it should. The reality is that social media algorithms push up only certain types of booktubers into the feeds of viewers. POC and/or eastern-world readers rarely (if ever) get recommended as much as white/Caucasian and/or Western world readers. The ones that do are so few in number, that you can count them on your fingertips. This strips away the diversity that otherwise would have infused booktube and reduced this community's (forced) reliance on the same 10 book recs, the reading tags, sprints, challenges....

I've really been meaning to read Knife of Never Letting Go for years now! I've only read Every Heart a Doorway but I really enjoyed it and I should carry on! Hunger Games is an absolute classic 😍 I've read City of Brass and I'm not sure whether I'll carry on with the series, but you've pushed me towards picking up the next two! 🩵🩵🩵

I love that Mitsborn Era 1 is in second place. 😍😍😍 For me the Mitsborn Trilogy is also superior to The Stormlight Archive in every aspect. As far as I know, the plot and characters of Mitsborn Era 1 caught me more. And speaking of characters, what do you think of Vin?

Well if Gentlemen Bastards is your number one. You should definitely read everything by Joe Abercrombie starting with FIRST LAW trilogy.

Hello Rana, I just discovered your channel! (Sorry if I'm a bit misinformed) But I'd like to know if you read anything else for Brandon Sanderson besides Stormlight & Mistborn. Also, have you ever had the chance to take a look on the Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson?

Great list and I’ll follow for more recs. I love Gentlemen Bastards but First Law is probably my favorite series. Abercrombie doesn’t mind killing his darlings when it’s called for. Could you do a deep dive review on Stormlight Archives books? I would love to hear why folks didn’t like Oathbringer. I always enjoy getting to know more about Dalinar so that book really resonated for me.
