I read 1-2 books a week

I agree with you on most romance being 'smut'. I think a decent light hearted cozy romance was flatshare, i gave it a 3.5 stars. Recently, I took up 'get a life chloe brown' by talia hibberts and I enjoyed the chronic illness representation so much but i couldn't read through the 🌶 scenes. It was too cringe

Adding this to my TBR, thanks! The only Syrian book I have is The Home That Was Our Country by Alia Malek, also about the Syrian civil war.

I read this book in Indonesian language few months ago and I felt a little cringe when I read some parts of the book, maybe because I read it in Indonesian. So I went to check the English version and I think it is a little bit better. I had same oppinion with you about the mentioning of ghibli, but overall I enjoyed this book. Before, I know very little of the Syrian and their stories but now I'm eager to learn about their history and suffering

I'm definitely adding this one to my tbr! 💙💙💙

I don't know if you still read comments I'm sorry both of these films are overrated and most people would never heard of the novel Battle Royale if not for the film and the film Battle Royale is not more original at all, it is like Gladiators of the Roman Empire having a baby with the Long Walk the film Battle Royale = pro-wrestling battle royal match + Stephen King novel, The Long Walk (1979) ( totalitarian fascist government organizing forced contests itself reminds us of the Roman empire)

Interesting challenge. I have yet to check from where are the books I have read (but is an exercise I would like to do in the near future). Certainly many would be from the USA and UK, though I have recently been reading more Mexican authors. رنا انا سكان جبل التاج قبل الثورة بكثير طبعا كان عنا ناس كثير من حمص وحماة وانحاء سوريا المختلفة 😅فيك تقولي عنا جالية سورية من قبل الأحداث متمركزة بالمنطقة وطبيعي بعد الأحداث تتضاعف.. في مدرستنا الثانوية كان معي ٥ رفقات سوريات وكنا نسمع قصص مرعبة بالهمس عن النظام البائد وهذا الحكي كله قبل الثورة .. لما ابن عمي طلعله يدرس بسورية في اخر التسعينات كان لازم برضه بابا يعطيه محاضرة شو يلي بصير تعمله وما بصير تحكيه او تفكر فيه بسوريا 😅اعتقد اهالي المنطقة الكبار هون ما بطيقوا النظام لأنه قلة قليلة من الأردن بتعرف انه جبل التاج تم قصفه من النظام السوري بالزمنااات !

As an Arab American female who has people from Syria in her life. It made me so emotional and I do agree that Zoulfa’s writing was immature in some spots , but I loved it.

True story?

I got this book from the store earlier this year but I had confused it with a different book (All My Rage), so when I sat down to read, I was super confused, but the writing hooked me and I kept reading. It's one of the few books to ever make me cry and it is probably a top 10 favourite now. Glad you also enjoyed it.

I just finished reading it so this comes at a perfect time! I saw so many people praise the book i didn't think twice when I bought it, and then i saw one negative review. I didn't read it but i was worried because usually books about real life events not written by the people who actually lived through them can upset those who have, but (and i say this w 0 connection w Syria) it seems like the person just didn't like the writing and the story is actually very respectful to what happened and continues to happen. I was scared it'd be a sad ending to show "the reality" of those who escape, but I was so happy to be wrong cuz i genuinely believe if not in real life then in fiction people deserve to survive. I think it's funny you found the acknowledgment to BTS a little odd, as a fan myself i would also thank them for all the achievements i have in life. I know it sounds silly but they really encourage us to be better and reach for our dreams in an honest and realistic way, i don't think i could put into words how important they are to us, so i understood her acknowledgement and felt it deeply.

Yeah books is actully a cheap hobby there are charity shops in England here i can get books for £0.50 each or saw offers 3 books for £1 so its like £0.33 per book! By the way what are your idea to „get rid” of the books you dont need anymore , the ones you already read them or you have to goodbye to make space for other books? As its hard to sell books. More people sell them than buy haha

Hey Rana, I'm happy to have discovered your channel! As an Italian, I'd like to recommend two of my favorite classics from 20th-century Italian literature: "The Baron in the Trees" by Italo Calvino and "The Late Mattia Pascal" by Luigi Pirandello. I'm not a huge fan of contemporary Italian fiction, but recently I read "Strangers I Know" by Claudia Durastanti and enjoyed it very much. I think I'll read more of her work and recommend it to you! 😊

Just yesterday I bought a copy of the poetry of WB Yeats at my used book store, after reading some of his poetry & loving it, so it's fun to hear you will be reading him. I also think "A Fine Balance" is excellent, & definitely sad... Best of luck with your book challenge! Most of all I hope you love whatever you do read...

Just an interesting fact that might add some context: J.D. Vance who wrote "The Hillbilly Elegy" is the same J.D. Vance whom Trump chose to be his vice-president. It's an autobiographical account of his coming-of-age in Appalachia.

Good luck with your challenge! I have about 165 unread books on my shelf. (its probably more than that because I didn't count my vintage books). At the start of this year it was 185 😅I am going to try to get through at least 5 more before the end of the year!! My 2025 goal is to get the unread books pile under 100. I don't think I will ever get to zero, but I would like to make my unread books pile be more around the 40-50 range 😂 I think I'll turn 30 before that happens 🙈

I think only the kickstarter editions of Tess of the Emerald Sea has the illustration but just look the fictures up while you read. I'm not as big of fan of Sanderson as many others but I enjoyed Tess a lot. The narration of it is uniqe. Plus, I don't count it as a reread if it's in another language or if it's a diffrent translation. It might be the same story, but the reading experience is diffrent.
