What is the worst book you read in 2023?

‘Empire of Silence’ was the most disappointing book. I believed the booktube hype and it was just bad. I DNF’d it about 80% through, I just couldn’t take the dumb anymore. Another big disappointment was Star Trek: the Rise of …Khan. Too much 70’s popular culture dumps, the character voices were off, and Khan was just stupid how he managed to be in the area of the big disasters of the time. DNF’d it, too.

The Empire of the Vampire, strangely.

Kingdom of the Feared by Kerri Maniscalco. It was so messy.

LOL, no disclaimers! It has struck me as a little ridiculous how some booktubers bend over backwards to not offend anyone. Thanks for assuming we’re all adults here. 😁

In 2023 I did not read a single book that I hated. Nowadays I do an extensive RUclips and Amazon research on a book before I devote my time and full attention to reading it. Thank you.

No disclaimers, I love it! 😂 and I love the timer idea as well! I might have to steal that, I'm really bad for rambling 😅

i think I tried reading leaves of grass and it would have been less painful to actually watch grass grow. I like your one minute rants! LOL

2023, I managed to read almost only books that I ended up liking. The only 2 books that I wasn't really enjoying, I just DNF'ed them. I didn't want to sit through a book to the end only to hate it even more

I think disclaimers are a funny thing. I don't mind if content creators put one, or don't; I think if someone's gonna respect your opinions, they'll do even if you don't remind them they should, and if someone's gonna harass you online, a disclaimer won't stop them. Someone else's behavior regarding your online existence is solely _on them,_ we don't have as much agency over that as one would assume.
I get why you put a no-disclaimer disclaimer, even though I don't find it 'ridiculous' when people choose to do it 😚

"worst" is strong I'd say is just my least favorite, would be 1984. I had a great reading year and the second half of the book lost me. I love the concepts and the world-building, but halfway through i thought it became uninteresting, so it ended up scoring last in my books of 2023

I had a very meh reading year in 2023. I’m having trouble choosing the absolute worst one. But I think I’ll pick The Only One Left by Riley Sager. It was just absurd.
Bird Box is one of my all time favorite books. I’ve read a lot of Malerman’s books and nothing even comes close. But I did really enjoy Black Mad Wheel. And I liked House at the Bottom of a Lake.
I’m not sure which is worse, a book that is entirely too long or an ending that is too abrupt.

Then I'll try Black Mad Wheel next. I really have hope for his books that slowly fading.

My worst book was The Likeness by Tana French (wayyyy too long and slow even if the middle parts were pretty interesting). And my most disappointing book was Babel (gasp!). I found the authors tone very condescending tbh and I felt like everything was over explained. I really enjoyed the parts about translation and how the magic works, but it wasn’t enough.
I love leaves of grass but I the thought “too American” criticism was very funny.

understandable. for me the wost book were an Arrow to the Moon (so slow paced, so cringy and the MCs were just horny teens oh and the end was so rushed and anticlimatic, so annoying) and the other one was the last/3rd book in a series I quite liked (won't name it as i was given it all as an ARC) and the ending just ruined it all for me espcially as the tried to make it a bit spicy when it was YA and the author herself promoted is very low romance... i was so annoyed by her response i think i still havent recovered lol

A House at the Bottom of a Lake was really disappointing, I think the only good book the author has written was Bird Box. Because I read another book of his that came out way after Bird Box and it was just so so bad, like, it was baly written and it made no sense.

Offended!!! No, just kidding jkjkjk😂😂😂 I'm planning to pick up Pillars of the Earth next month... 😋. I hope to enjoy the Kingsbridge books as much as I enjoyed Follett's other work.
Reading enjoyment is subjective, and based on the individual. Some of these fandoms are just a bit over the top. Imho.
Ohhhh a dude in the middle of the sea fishing... fishing....fishing... yes, very boring... I hated having to read books like that for School. Out of all the required reading I had to do as a teenager here in the US... only 2 books did I enjoy. One was In Cold Blood by Truman Capote and the other was Seagull by Jonathan Livingston.
My wish for you is fewer worst books in the coming year of 2024!
