    Hey everybody, Igor here from cars exposed thanks for tuning in, i will be uploading videos here every week exposing cars issues, CAR repairs, CAR projects and more... stay tuned !!!
    This is a follow up video, in my previous video i temporarily fixed a reluctor ring issue if you haven't seen it please check it out i will leave a link below. Talking to Grandad he suggested to actually make a video showing how to replace the reluctor ring and when Grandad says something you have to listen, at least in my book lol ...
    I hope this video can help someone out there, the job was actually quite easy and cost me £3.99 for each ring, i will leave an Amazon link bellow ... cheers

    Please people, after you have cleaned the drive shaft surface, protect it with a light grease, and then heat the reluctor ring in the oven for 20-30 mins at 180C, then it will just slip on with no hammering (or damage) needed. Please wear gloves and use tongs or similar, as the reluctor ring will be hot when removed from the oven.

    Thanks for this. For anyone watching i found it easier to unbolt and hang the brake caliper to get clearance for removing and refitting the shaft on my e88.

    Very good Igor!
    For the lights warning, make sure that the plates that make contact on the bulbs are clean...
    Otherwise it might be ok on higher voltages, like the 12 volts when the lights are turned on, but creates an issue/resistance when the module does the check, as it does it by sending a much lower voltage through the circuit... Alternatively, you can code the check of the lights off... better that than replace the footwell module... in case that is the issue...

      Oh man that’s fantastic Luis, thx for the advise, I went and check the bulbs just to find out they were all working, I was wondering what the hell was going on lol , thanks I really appreciate it, I’ll check the contacts tomorrow !!! 👍

    Hey man, I have a 128i 09 and I am being told that I need a new axel (because of rust) and a wheel sensor. I was getting random traction readings until it came on completely following the break light and check engine. They want $1250 for the repair for one sensor and axel. I'm being told I have to replace the axel each time these sensor go out. Does this sound right?

    • @CarsExposed

      Renewing the whole driveshaft for the sake of the reluctor ring is horribly wasteful, in money and resources. A new driveshaft will rust at some point anyway. The only things I'd have done would be to prime (zinc primer) and paint the cv after the new reluctor is on it.

      SkyWizardless totally agree mate I regretted not to have treated it with some anti rust protection for sure ... The car belongs to a good friend of mine and I know still going strong but it would have been better in the long run ... cheers 👍

    • @repairtime
      @repairtime 4 года назад +2

      SkyWizardless yeah wasteful is also your time. Time is money. For a short time is this way the best. But if you don’t wanna work on this driveshaft again, then renewing is the best option. And you still can sell your old one for some bugs.

    • @ferrumignis
      @ferrumignis 4 года назад

      @@repairtime If you are a professional (i.e. run your own garage) then I agree that time is money, but you can give your customers the choice. The driveshafts are pretty quick and easy to remove on these, so a repair is likely to cost substantially less than a new OE BMW driveshaft. If you choose a cheap aftermarket driveshaft you will undoubtedly be working on it again at some point.
      For a car owner that does their own repairs the time-is-money argument doesn't apply.
      Out of interest, since the original BMW driveshaft rusted and caused the reluctor ring to expand, why will a new BMW driveshaft not do the same thing eventually?

      Zorayr Zakaryan very likely ... have you tried to switch the traction control off ? If you turn it off and the car drives normally will be the reluctor ring but check the abs sensor as well 👍

    200Nm plus 90° is way over 400Nm
    I have a 400Nm Torque wrench and its only some degres more than 200Nm on these nuts.

      @@CarsExposed I will test how many degrees the difference is between 200 and 420Nm, most people only have a 200Nm wrench. I have to change 3 of these nuts in the next days. I used to have a 40-200Nm torque wrench, but now it killed itself. So i got a 5-50, 20-100 and 80-400Nm one.
      Btw. thx for the video. I got a dirt cheap 2006 330xd. Xdrive is not working because one of the abs rings grew and killed the sensor. The previous owner tought it would be expensive to fix.

      So, it took 1/8 of a turn (45°) to get the 12 point axle nut on a E90 from 200Nm to 420Nm. I hope this will help somebody someday. I lubed the nut before installing, like BMW tells you to.
      Btw. the car is working fine now. Needs new belt and tensioner, new top windshield gasket and bump stops on the rear shocks. Sadly the previous owner did not show up at safety check twice, so I cannot register the car without checking it first.

    • @Ecka6

      BMW garages are often telling people that it's a driveshaft replacement when it's just the reluctor ring 🤷‍♀️

    • @James-yy4vl
      @James-yy4vl 3 года назад +1

      It’s the driveshaft that is starting to corrode that it pushing the reluctor ring out so they’re not lying and replacing the driveshaft would be a more permanent solution but it’s up to you.

      Guy plugged it in and it was sensor that was at fault. He looked at the rings and they seemed fine.

    Few issues with the video.
    1. Extensions. You wouldn't have to remove the wheel if you had the correct tools.
    2. Did you use a jackstand under the car when you were underneath it, or just the jack?
    3. Find the torque specs. There's a reason they publish them. Xmm + 90 degrees isn't correct.
    4. Did you re-use the axle nut? Why?

    • @CarsExposed
      @CarsExposed  5 лет назад +5

      jer0177 Hiya thanks for your comment ...
      1. I’ve tried an extension off camera but the hub nut is very shallow and the socket kept slipping.
      2. I know you can’t see it in the video but I did use a jack stand.
      3. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any torque spec, and I don’t have anything like AutoData or Haynes manual but I agree I should.
      4. I did reuse the same nut but I should have bought a new one you are right there.
      It’s a learning curve this RUclips thing, I’m just a regular guy sharing my experiences in my driveway, it will be mistakes sometimes.
      I appreciate your comment tho, I always thought that success is a bad teacher but mistakes and struggle make you humble... cheers 👍
