This is the first video I have every watched you do and I must say that I was ready to stop it after one minute because I thought you were a little goofy. However, I watched the entire video and I was very impressed with what you presented because it was something that I have never heard another instructor describe and that was the feel of the transition in the backswing to downswing and the acceleration point at impact. That was definitely an eye opening piece of information and it was something that I have done accidently and noticed it worked but did not realize how important it might be until you described it again. I have more respect for your teaching after this video no matter how goofy it started.
You're right. Gotta have a good short game. I think my short game is descent but on a regular round of golf I noticed that I can struggle with hitting my mark under 40 yards usually going real long on these shots. Thanks for stressing all of your swing points the pause I think is a tougher concept to execute/practice/drill.
You are fantastic at explaining this! Finally, someone who can make sense via visualization and common sense. Thank you! I struggle with the occasional bout of chipping shanks... it can be devastatingly annoying. It is the part of my game that gives me the most grief.
Love your videos, (Both content and style) I won't be surprised if the golf channel comes knocking. Keep up the good work. and Thank you for the great tips.
Just got back into golf 14 months ago after being out of it for 30 years. My wife got me the complete Cobra Max set and an awesome Hot-Z USAF bag. Yes, I’m a veteran. I love the sport more than I did back when I was younger and playing. Your videos are an inspiration and a learning tool. I’m so glad and fortunate that I found your channel. I even joined a club here (Pointe South Golf Club, Hephzibah GA) and play at least 3 times a week. Your videos are always with me. You are my coach! Keep doing what you do my friend! 😊👍
I love your videos, they have helped me tramedously with my game. I can now hit my driver straight, my long irons farther and straight, and my chipping has improved. Thank you.
Love these videos where you show each step. Very simple to follow. Could you maybe do one on hitting out of a fairway sand bunker farther, instead of just getting out?
Great tips to improve short chips Matt. Loved the drill. I seen someone practicing putting the other day at 3 different distances using rings which totally reminds me of your drill. Thanks again appreciate what you do.
A viable way to chip to be sure. Great video too. Mr. Short Game has his act together. However, the best chipping method available to amateurs is the Paul Runyon "chip/putt" method. Basically you use your putting stance, grip, and stroke to chip with. Better distance control, and accuracy. Yes, there is an adjustment using the putting stance/stroke to chip with, but once learned, the golfer will never hit a fat chip again. Every club face, ball contact will be crisp, and clean Runyon's chip/putt stroke is available on You Tube also. Give it try Mr. Short Game. You might just change your mind on chipping. Another thing. Don't forget to read the green from your landing spot to the pin. Makes for shorter first putts, if you miss the chip.
I live in Dallas, but I am coming to San Diego next Saturday. I want to play golf on Sunday. If you want to join me for a round of golf Sunday, I will cover your green fee. Love your videos. JR
I have put tees from 1-10 foot beginning with 2 ft on the green for years-it works. Your advise on hand position and opening the face is what I do not do well-thanks!
Hey Matt, love your instructional videos. Did you switch from the D grind to a K grind wedge recently? No issues with opening the face of the K grind in all conditions? Also, when hitting these small chip shots do you have the face slightly open? Thanks, John
The first video I ever saw of you was years ago and it was on a driving range and you were showing a chipping drill about distance. You had a hitting stick out about 10 - 20 yards to hit too and said in the video that this drill helped you go from 80's to mid 70's. I can not find it, can you repost it. Thanks
Great exercise. Now I need to find a way to set it up inside my house when it's too dark outside...not a whole lot of room if you catch my drift. Keep up the great vids.
I just watched your video on chipping from deep rough where u use more wrist rather than hip movement. So do u use different swing method for chipping from deep rough?
Good tips. Any advice on beating the chipping yips? I bat 1000 on the practice area, but am 50/50 on the course. I think my technique is sound. Help please!
Jon Biro - Hey John, I’ve suffered with the chipping yips (30yds & in) for 3 years. I recently tried crossing my hands a la Jordan speith putting grip. This has really helped.
I’m working on it about 2hrs/day. I thinking of holding club less tight and feeling more the actual weight of wedge moving through the ball. What kind of mat you using? GO Cal. Born in Berkeley 😂😂
Get a dog who will fetch 2" tennis balls. I pitch high shots and low shots, short chips and long chips all within 18 yards. The dog doesn't know what shot is next and he always wants to practice. Then I hit golf balls the same way and the action is almost the same. (without the dog- to dangerous) Your tips are right on, but it takes a lot of practice.
There are problems like grounding and topping the ball in the chip shots. Using the mat is easier to hit than in the grass. So, I think you forgot the steady level of your hands to avoid grounding and topping.
MrShortGame Golf. Sorry but I disagree. The bounce can help you save a shot when you half-chunk it, but you should not hit the ground behind the ball. Also, you are flicking at the ball with your hands and forearms, instead of using the shoulder turn and chest muscles to get a consistent strike.

Matt's right! Matt's a short game efficiano. It's tough trying to explain a feel which he does well.

Always enjoy the shared information you provide...thanks...Mr.Short Game.
Great stuff. Love your teaching method
That’s too quick! Hahaha. Love your work. Please keep these videos coming. Really enjoying them and it’s improving my golf.
I love your videos, they have helped me tramedously with my game. I can now hit my driver straight, my long irons farther and straight, and my chipping has improved. Thank you.
just watched this and I am amazed at the results
I love the way you play, so interesting and helpful. Thanks
Great vid mate
Helped me so much
Great video ! This drill is fantastic. Will be practicing this when weather breaks. From Ohio . Cant wait until March.......Wow
Nice unique videos and delivery ...
Great advice with descriptive pointers...
You’re my kinda guy!
✊🏿
I know this old video. But it’s a game changer for me.

This validates some things I’ve worked out recently.

This guy can teach, with humor.
Love him...cant wait to try that tomorrow.
Love the Cal beanie in So Cal . Great stuff Mr shortgame. Appreciate the detail.
Another great instructional vid. Quick question: How many golf balls have you hit into the pool through years of practice? :-)
Another great one Matt. I needed to see this.

It's cool how you think. I always focus on grazing the bottom of the club on the turf.
As a german Golf guy i Love this Videos , he can explain feelings in Golf!
Hey Matt, love your instructional videos. Did you switch from the D grind to a K grind wedge recently? No issues with opening the face of the K grind in all conditions? Also, when hitting these small chip shots do you have the face slightly open?
Thanks,
John
I was thinking whose this clown wearing a beanie and shirt sleeves he’s not a clown he’s a fountain of knowledge great video thank you.
Thanks Matt. Do you ever recommend the little punch shot ??
I do and have done some videos on that.
Great tips! Also have the pro advanced indoor putting mat.
Are you suggesting a high lofted club all the time or do you change techniques using like a seven or eight iron.
Swing like a child on a play swing, Great vids, great content.
Great video ! Do you recommend using the same club for all chips? What club were you using ?
I mix it up but usually a 60 or 56 wedge

Do you move your knees or keep them really quiet when chipping? Thanks a lot.
Superb ...thanks Matt
What loft/bounce club are you using?
golf balls in the pool?
love it
I liked, subscribed and turned smashed the bell
Mudduk earth you tube
Great exercise. Now I need to find a way to set it up inside my house when it's too dark outside...not a whole lot of room if you catch my drift. Keep up the great vids.
Nice tips..can try it
I agree with all the steps.. I get that feeling sometimes. Just so hard to do it all the time..I guess I need more practice.
I just watched your video on chipping from deep rough where u use more wrist rather than hip movement. So do u use different swing method for chipping from deep rough?
do you accelerate faster to get the longer distance or do you bring the club a little past your thigh, lets say between thigh and hip.
Like the drill and video.
Great video, like it on hitting your mark. ⛳🏌️♀️🏌️♂️🏌️
Great vid as usual 👍🏿
Where did you get your chipping mat you show on the front of your video, and what is it called?
What degree wedge were you using? 58? 60?
Exponentially..like it.

@@juanhunglow2220 Thanks. I will try that.

I have the Motivo golf mat
Always the same club or change the club? Like 9i-8i-56 degree-60degree depeding on distance
I love it 👍
Good job!
Can step 5 be applied to the full swing of all my clubs? In fact, can steps 1-5 be applied to the full swing?
are u going to change your irons soon? (the 714 ap2s...)
The rain I can handle. Played on Friday and it rained. Problem is, now it turned to snow, haha
gold!
Your pause and wait for gravity is a great thought...
This evening I had three holes to short chip and par and I was 3 for 3. A first for me
thanks for the "progressive" drill!
Good stuff but hard to visualize without an actual green to see where your aim point is and how much release you are trying for.
07:10 Yes!
Sweet Tips...... That's what she said

Go Bears! 🐻
I like
how you chip when you are on the fringe on real grass, I can do it on the artificial turf, but when it comes to the real thing I screw it all up.
There are problems like grounding and topping the ball in the chip shots. Using the mat is easier to hit than in the grass. So, I think you forgot the steady level of your hands to avoid grounding and topping.
How many coffees do you have in the morning?
🙌
Why do you remind me of Michael Scott 🤣🤣 Great vid though 👍
That wasn't very good. You didn't get one in the Pool. Looks more like Seattle than LA. Love your videos and thank you!
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Give it a little impulse, that’s the word
I just won my club championship by 14. Chipped my ass off
😎👍❤️👊
Hyper spaz ! Slow down yourself !!
First
Lose the Cal hat Aztec
shame every shot was miss hit
Good tips but speaking to fast
Why dont you just say its a lo5like putting. Simple.
Sorry bit too much of a neurotic presentation style which distracts from the message
Sorry Mr Short Game, but you chunked almost every shot !
You should be hitting the ground before the ball when chipping. Just not with the leading edge. That's how you use the bounce.
