I don't think that they're doing it solely to keep tradition. I think they're doing it solely to make more money, and they're able to get away with it because of tradition. The only dual release I think was actually great was Mystery Dungeon Red and Blue rescue team, it totally makes sense to have two different versions for different systems.
Dual versions was fine enough back when the games were handheld titles at a handheld price, but now that they are selling at full console prices on the Switch, it's a scheme that needs to stop... or at least evolve. Something made very clear by BD/SP is that it is entirely possible to code these as games using only a single version designator to distinguish things like which encounter tables to use. While BD/SP hard coded that designator to each version, those remakes could have just been sold as a singular release with the player selecting which version to play whenever starting a new game. Especially on the Switch console, where each profile has its own save file, this could allow families playing on the same system to select different versions and trade with each other without needing to purchase multiple copies of the same game, and especially without needing to likewise double dip on the subsequent DLCs. I'm fine if GameFreak wants to preserve the legacy of dual versions, but there's no longer any reason for that to involve separate cartridges.
Honestly being able to select a version still keeps the traditional Pokemon trading/community esq feeling alive. So I heavily agree with you here. As a long time fan I just got used to spending double if I were to complete/replay the games but its a practice that with a lil select menu or something along those lines... Well it would be much better. Unless each game is VASTLY different of course.
Wow. When I came to the comments after watching the video, judging by the quality of production, I was expecting lakhs of views and thousands of comments. Your channel deserves so much more! Keep going!!
What if third versions came out at the same time as the first paired versions(like RGB on Feb. 27, 1996)? And all three had 3rd versions' improvements and new features?
@@VirtualMementoswha? No I’m not talking about sequels. I’m talking about the fact that the split versions for the originals and sequels were actually suepr different. to the point an entire city had a completely different song and visuals
See with 2 games for me there lot of option I make out of it even if it same game I can go on forever plus Pokémon one of my fav franchises beside beyblade and Onepiece so I gonna go in when Game come out if we ever did stop getting 2 version then it be werid restarting a game and all that 🤔but it does get interesting with all savefile on switch now you don’t have too so it interesting. For me I 2 version for life

Ya know I could see that but I'm hopeful lol

I always just get both versions, anyways because I’m a hardcore Pokémon guy and I don’t see them stopping this formula.
As a longtime fan I agree, but it'd be cool to see them make substantial differences in the formula if given proper time to
There's no laws against the Pokemon Virtual. You can't stop it from happening.

I mean... Neat idea but it seems DLC is the way they want to approach these now. I'd be okay with the suggestion though!!!
I wish they did what BWB2W2 did with a lot more actual differences. it would ve so cool
Yeah it would have been! Genuinely would love to see sequel games more
