    The owner used Mobil a good portion of the cars life. He admitted this on another video. Don't be bs'd thinking he used Castrol the whole time, that is not the truth. Search and you can find the video where he sheepishly admits to the use of Mobil oil.

    I follow Irv Gordon since 71 and for all those years his engine was rebuild at least 4 times!So it's not his first camshaft and not his first pistons!.....Just from the last rebuild!...remember!This is only promotional video!

      If you do a really good search you can find a video where Irv admits that he used Mobil oil a good portion of the cars life. I think money got involved and Irv did the switch to Castrol.

    I used Castrol GTX in my 1983 Datsun 280zxt, and blew out the headgasket twice. Probably not the oils fault, but just saying, this crap ain't magic oil. Never did fix the headgasket the second time, and it's been sitting dead in my back yard ever since.

    Irv uses Castrol 15w-40 for diesel engines in his 1966 Volvo 1800s because of the added Zinc and Phosphorus levels.

    • @adamstilldrives
      @adamstilldrives 5 лет назад

      It was 10w40 but no doubt switched to a 15w40 as the high miles added up. But still remarkable

      adolfo maurício in my opinion I prefer gtx. Now here is why, magnatec is great for new engines as the magnatec oil will stick to new engine parts better than sticking to older contaminated parts. Magnatec will not stick properly to engine parts covered in sludge from over extended oil change life. Older engines prefer semi synthetic and a slightly thicker oil as they get older (as metal wears down the thicker oil helps fill the gaps of lost metal). Gtx is a great oil for the price. I have used gtx for over 24,000 miles changing it every 3000 miles as I beat the hell out of my engine (when its warmed to operating temperature that is). Also I use honda oem filter from the dealerships to help get the most out of the oil. My engine has taken me all over europe and even full speed runs accross germany. Prior to me owning this 22 year old engine it has receieved magnatec and gtx from new at honda. I recently went ahead and changed some gaskets and I was so surprised to see how clean my internal parts where. My engine on a dyno produced a engine hp of 112.6 where as it was 115hp brand new. That shocked everyone that day and proved to me that castrol gtx has saved my engines life. My engine is quiet and doesnt burn oil much at all as I have never topped it up between oil changes. Gtx will clean your engine prior to magnatec but I dont think magnatec is worth it as long as you change gtx oil every 3000 miles. Good luck.

    • @adamstilldrives
      @adamstilldrives 5 лет назад

      adolfo maurício with any new internal engine parts I would use a 0w20 for the first few changes of the break in period not sure if it woukd be magnatec or something from the edge range. My car has only covered 24000 miles over 2 years. I have to change my oil every 3000 miles due to the conditions in which I put my engine through. The car now lives in a hot and dusty village and also uses ethonal 5 and sometimes ethonal 10 fuel which could go into my oil causing my seals to fail and leak if im not careful. I know I havent covered many miles but my engine has now had 26 oil changes with castrol and still going strong. Magnatec isnt for me I guess as my biggest fight is contamination in my oil anyway.

    Yeah.... We are supposed to believe that no other volvos used castrol gtx, so they all weared 20x faster ... No doubt it was the good care and maintenance, and very probably always low rpm, specially with cold engine.

    I've been using castol gtx for 10 years in my Nissan pickup and is has not given me not one internal mechanical problem...now I use Castrol edge and will continue until the day it dies I received this truck from my grandpa when it had 67,000 miles now it's reaching 260,000 miles and still sounds like new...my grandpa used the same oil ...... he's no longer here but his truck is and still running...
