The way you improvised that steamer with the aluminum was ingenious! I would've have never thought to do that. You're the best, Marion!
clutchmadness aww thank you!! It’s always great when you can improvise with what you’ve got instead of buying new equipment!!
My parents used to use a shallow bowl upside down in the pot instead of aluminium foil. It worked great.
@@middletonlyn6856 that is a lovely idea. I'll try this tomorrow. Thanks to your parents. 🙏🏽

I followed this exact recipe and I can’t stop making it! I made it for my mom who’s Chinese and she was impressed. Thanks Marion for this wonderfully fragrant, tasty, and easy to follow recipe! Totally subbed to your channel by the way and I can’t stop watching your videos! Sometimes I wake up at 3am and I’m like.... hmmmm.... what to do? MARION’S KITCHEN TIME!!
what playe you used to heat? should it be ceramic?
I’m Cantonese, we don’t steam the fish with the soy sauce, because the fish would absorb the bitterness of the soy sauce. We steam the fish with ginger and spring onion first. After it is cooked, pour the extra fish water out, then put cooked oil and then soy sauce.
ivygordon awesome! I love hearing everyone’s different versions. Very interesting 😊👌
Agree!
In vietnam my grandma does the same as you, but she uses maggie soy sauce instead. We dont really familiar with chinese or korean soy sauce. Taste pretty different
I like this version and my mom's. She steams the fish first with the ginger and water, then drizzle the sauce after. Both variations are delicious! Thank you Marion!
Yeah that's the correct way to cook it
I made this and oh my god, delicious! The sesame seed oil to top it all off was such a beautiful touch to a simple but amazing dish!!!
You make a simple fish recipe look so elegant! Your recipes are always stunning.
I made this yesterday and it was super duper delicious. Easy to make and minimal clean up.
Love love love this recipe!!! So easy to do it and taste so good
Made this today and it was heavenly😋Thanks Marion. Every recipe I make using your tips is a Mama Noi Winner!!!! The 2 of you make cooking so much fun🥰🥰
one of the most simple, quick dishes. one of my faves
I am making this for the second time. It's going to be on rotation at our place.
Delicious!
Wow Marion this looks absolutely sensational....I love how educational your videos are - you make it look so easy ~ Liz
Pixmoto Thanks Liz!
I tried this dish yesterday to great success with salmon. I used the steam bowl of my normal steam cooker and it did the job. I followed your advice to leave it for 20 minutes, which is the normal time I use for salmon in the steam cooker. Thank you and regards from Greece.
Wowsers!!!! Just made this oh my goodness it was amazing!!! I didn’t have the spring onions on top but everything else was awesome. That hot oil over the top of the chilli and ginger just raised it to a new level. I don’t think I’ll ever do fish any other way. Thanks.
Love steam fish! I grew up in Hawaii so we ate this all the time with freshly caught fish! 💜💜💜
Joyce Lewis oh you’re so lucky Joyce! Nothing like fresh caught fish!
@@Marionskitchen yes we cleaned them & steamed them whole! So yummy!

I was so happy. Thank you once again giving all the tricks and tips to take a dish to the next level. You are beautiful and amazing .....🙏🙏🙏🙏
I made this tonight with halibut and it was delicious! I riced cauliflower and tossed in some chard from my garden. What a great meal. My first time to steam fish. Success! Thank you😀
Marion, my kitchen muse, this is the video that turned me on to you and now I’m hooked. I made this dish a few days ago and it was spectacular. Unfortunately, my store was out of green onions, but some beautiful watercress and red onion saved the day.
Earlier this evening I made your version of Mongolian beef... green onions and all :) It was amazing. I can’t wait to try your spicy garlic butter linguini.
I love ❤️ all your recipes Marion 😘 thank
You for sharing ..
Hi, I’m Filipino, we make a very similar dish but we don’t steam the fish in the soy and we fry some (A LOT) of garlic in the oil, add the soy to the oil and then pour all of that mixture onto the fish. So yum 😋
can you give me the exact recipe to modify from this for the fried version??
I tried it and it was EXCELENT!!! Thank You !
I just made this for dinner with black cod. It came out great, the improv steamer was spot on. The hot oils show did impress. Thanks!!
I have done this recipe at home since the first time Mom Noi did it during a Facebook live stream. It has become an absolute favorite in my house. Thank you 🙏🏻 for teaching us how to prepare comforting food that everyone at home enjoy. 😃😊😊😊 Many blessings
By the way I add some fresh minced garlic over the ginger. Omg is delicious 🤤

Love watching your videos…inspiring me to cook more often since you make it effortless.
Hi Marion, this is my third recipe I followed from you this month(: needless to say I was really satisfied.
My store didn’t have any sea bass so I used halibut which a bit thicker, and still turned out so amazing! I followed everything in this video especially trimming and soaking the green onions, they really added a nice crunch and look too! Thank you
I FINALLY HAD THE CHANCE TO MAKE THIS LAST NIGHT AND IT WAS HEAVENLY ! SIMPLE, EASY AND DELICIOUS !!!
Looks very simple and easy. I will try this tonight with flounder filets. Thanks.
It's simple and the fish is ready. Sure it will be deliciously. Thanks for the video.
You need a TV show !!! I’ve made this for years. Delicious and light.
I did some soy ginger garlic salmon a couple of days ago....so good!
Always smile... I like your style.. your recepi.. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Marion! I must thank you for this recipe! The addition of a bit of lime juice does cut through and tones down the saltiness of the soy sauce, and I added a dash of honey too. Taking the comments into consideration, I stirred the soy/honey/lime juice in a pot to cook it down a bit. Thanks again for your recipe, easier to steam than the Chinese style here in Malaysia.
Great, I love the way she streamed the fish
Omg tried this today SOOOO GOOD Thank you very much from myself and my family we love this dish!.
Made this last week in my bamboo steamer, delicious as usual 😊

My nephew and I are planning to cook this for lunch tomorrow. Thank you for posting this video. You explain it so well. Very easy to understand, even for a pair of complete novices like us!
I've made this 2-3 times already and it is truly delicious. Today, I'm making it again and, as I only have a few stalks of spring onion and no hot pepper, I may add some fresh cilantro and chili flakes on top. Yum!
Tried this recipe...added a bit sugar in the soya sauce...turned out amazing! love it! thanks for the recipe Marion!
I tried it yesterday and it turned out super yummy !

Beautiful dish
I love the makeshift steamer idea 😍😍😍😍
Hello Marion
I really like all your videos and I’m learning some great stuff from you, thank you for that.
Also I wanted to ask you what type of fish you would recommend buying in big c for this dish?, if it’s a thai fish could you spell it in thai if you could ? I don’t think they sell cod.I’m also living in thailand 😊
Use “Seafood soy sauce”. More sweet, less salt. Massive flavour difference than standard soy sauce. Found at every Asian grocer.
Thanks 😊👋👍 very much for tip, will buy next time.
I love this, I can't wait to try it!!
Awesome! I tried it and it was yumm!!

Hello Marion,
Thank you for sharing your recipe with us. Do you use Sweet or the Salty Soy Sauce?
Made this today, it was so good! Thai red chillies adds a lot of heat. I will go easy on them next time.
Marion, I am a first time subscriber and viewer of your channel and I love your video. Awesome receipe and I can't wait to try it.
Antonio TT Hey thank you and a very big welcome Antonio! 😊😊😊
Thank You for a recipe and thank You again for smart technique.
Saluti di Firenze Italia. Love your recipes
Instead of aluminum, you can also use a towel on the bottom.. Just fold the towel into square and can function the same. I love to steam foods including tofu, veggies, fish, scallops. Even ground pork/beef like shumai.
Cool video! The soy sauce on the rice is really good! For the steamed fish!!! 😆😍🙂🐟
I've always wanted to know how to make this. Thanks Marion. You've done it again. 👏👏
You are like an artist !
I made this tonight and it was excellent. I just used a steamer, but I like the plate version with the improvised trivet. What kind of plate did you use?
Looks yummy!!!!!
