Very nice selection. And awesome that you included Achilies Last Stand. A very underappreciated song.
Velvet Underground - Sister Ray 😞
masterpiece
A passion play by Tull, severely underrated
I do agree it's good, but the intro to the second part is... off-putting, to say the least, (in a musical sense).
@@bewarerandoms4019 yeah, it’s certainly an acquired taste.
W list. So glad u acknowledged Long Season. It’s underrated af
Good list, but I have some suggestions:
The Gates of Delirium - Yes
The Musical Box- Genesis
Take a Pebble - ELP
Dream Theater in general
good list
"good list"

PFM mentioned!!! Have you listened to BMS at all?
@@bakerdarcy6001
Yeah! "Canto Nomade Per Un Prigioniero Politico" it's one of the best songs over 10 minutes and more! There are so many good songs that we end up leaving some out!
CCR “I heard it through the grapevine”.
If this was a live list , you’d have to include Dazed and confused and Whipping Post
A change of seasons by Dream Theater
Great list! But I'm dying on the hill that moon in June by the soft machine tops all of these 🕺🕺
haven't heard of that one, ill give it a listen
Incomplete without "Fools Overture"by Supertramp.
Also:
In Held Twas in I - Procol Harum
Coma - Guns and Roses
Top 3 I believe are the same for most people lol
Nope supper ready is the best
Boring Pink Floyd tracks that just don't seem to end.
@@criticus100bro has an attention span of a 2 year old
@@irbrn15 this bro has no problems with long tracks by Yes or other bands, only those by PF 😉
Mine is
3 - Starless
2 - Dogs
1 - Atom heart mother suite
You forgot Uriah Heep's SALISBURY and THE MAGICIAN'S BIRTHDAY.
Here’s my list just for fun (I’m doing all genres because my list didn’t feel full)
1. Close to the edge
2. Voodoo child (live at Woodstock)
3. At the gates of delirium
4. And you and I
5. Dogs
6. Mortal man
7. 21st century schizoid man (live in Mexico)
8. - Chameleon (when I saw Herbie Hancock live)
9. Heart of the sunrise
10. Do Re Mi - medley
11. Pigs
12. Machine gun - live
By Larks’ Tounges in Aspic do you mean part 1? Because you said the song is 47 minutes lol.
He probably means all 5 parts
the song is split across a few diff albums. kinda cheating honestly but it's all one song
achilles last stand and child in time are my top 2
Marquee moon is in my top 3
Achilles last stand mentioned
Nightwish - The Poet and the Pendulum
Symphony X - The Odyssey
Genesis - The Cinema Show
Yup Echoes by Pink Floyd is classic & my fave song to listen to through the headphones after a toke.🙂🙂
Pretty good list. A little heavy on Pink Floyd but that’s ok. You should check out some Frank Zappa.
Pink Floyd just has a lot of long songs 😐
...the fool...quicksilver messenger service...wow...
My top 3:
1 Marquee Moon - Television
2 Station to Station - David Bowie
3 Kosmos - Paul Weller
No Yes? Great list, but Awaken, Close to the Edge, The Gates of Delirium, Perpetual Change, The Revealing Science of God, Ritual, The Silent Wings of Freedom, And You and I!
Close to the edge is 11th
@MormonShotGun oops I missed that.
Mindrive
Didn't have the usual cover.
WHERE IS FOOL'S OUVERTURE???
All right ELP.. I would have included the Endless Enigma and the Karn Evil 9 Suite however too much freaking Pink Floyd. Overall pretty good list😮
Fair number on there I really enjoy especially Floyd's ANIMALS. I would definitely add these Ghost Love Score and Greatest Show On Earth by NIGHTWISH, AWAKEN by YES.
Cowgirl In the Sand is honestly one of the best songs ever made
Tarkus should be in the top 10.
Good list. I would add Lady Fantasy - Camel and Rime of the Ancient Mariner - Iron Maiden though.
Gaza, Montreal, Ocean Cloud, Invisible Man, Neverland, Interior Lulu by Marillion are all over 10 minutes long (I'm sure there's a few more 😁)
Yeah but marillion is maybe the most derivative band ever. I listen to them and think “why am I not just listening to genesis”
Close to the Edge
Gates of Delirium
They both don't sound dated at all.
Thick as a Brick
A Passion Play
Supper's Ready
The Cinema Show*
*maybe the most beautiful composition ever
Question! Are you counting Lark's Tongues In Aspic = Parts 1 + 2 + 3 + 4a + 4b + 4c + Level 5 as one song? Or do you think the LTIA album is actually one song?
he is counting the different parts as one
Aphrodite's Child - All the Seats Were Occupied
John Lennon - Cambridge 1969
Rare Earth - People Get Ready
I would definitely add "Anesthetize" by Porcupine Tree.
Check Out Rachel Flower's cover of ELP's "Pictures at an Exhibition" here: ruclips.net/video/yA2Yk_L7K6E/видео.htmlsi=btywHjhutRsqrpnB
Also: great list. Agree with all the Floyd rankings, though I probably listen to "Dogs" the most.
Super honorable mention: "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" by the Allman Bros.
(I have a similar playlist) Another fav: "Boogie Chillin' No 2" by John Lee Hooker with Canned Heat (On "Hooker N' Heat")
The half of them not the songs. They have other musical forms and structures like musical pieces, suite, small symphony etc.
We would get along at a party
Love the list. I got 3 favorites from a jam band of the last 15 or so years named "king gizzard & the lizard wizard"
"The River", "Ice V" and "Crumbling Castle" are all just barely over 10 minutes, and "Head On/Pill" and "the Dripping Tap" are all close to 15 minutes. They'd ALL fit like a glove on such a list.
Most of Godspeed You! Black Emperor's songs are over 20 minutes long, I think "Storm" and "Mladic" would be on my list
Love gizz. Everything off of Ice Death Planets Lungs Mushrooms and Lava is so good. Personally Rocket Falls is my fav G!YBE album
"I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" - Meat Loaf; deserves to be on here.
Good list. I also like Rare Earth’s song, (I Know) I’m Losing You at 10:56 in length. Great cover version!
Haven't seen a mention of Peter Frampton's "Do You Feel Like We Do? (live)"...
I could never sit through a 20 minute pink Floyd song, let alone a 2 minute one.
Top 3 - Achilles Last Stand for me
Im guessing there will be no Meatloaf/Jim Steinman songs in the list
Great list. How is larks tongues in aspic 47 minutes long?
There are parts 3,4 (and maybe 5) in the following albums
@@alexandredaene8659 I count them as separate songs but I can see the point, thanks
You should check out Again by Archive
Without July Morning by Uriah Heep ? 🤣🤣🤣
Have you tried the 98.12.28 version of Long Season? Its widely considered to be better than the original
You missed 1974 by O Terço...underrated
+++ for In the garden of Eden
I would have added Pink Floyd's THE NARROW WAY.
No Dream Theater??
Good List but no Grateful Dead?
I would have included Awaken by Yes.
W #1
Karn Evil 9 by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Tool’s entire catalogue ignored?
In My Time of Dying should be higher
I advise you When The Music's Over by The Doors. Trust me
it was in contention but didn't make the final cut
LTIA (the album) counted as a single track? Never seen anyone do that before
I have or had the vast majority of these songs.
My father's favorite genre. Bet you've not heard Chilliwack's "Changing Reels". Enjoy.
ctte definitely deserves to be at least top 5
What happened to the sound?
Nine Feet Underground is epic
Uriah Heep, Magicians birthday. Come on man , great song.
Truckers atlas is amazing
Pendragon - The Voyager
Landmarq - Ta' jiang
Asgard - The Mirror of The King
Abraxas - Pokuszenie
Collage - Moonshine
Excellent list! I would have added Recycled by Nektar, Man from Manhattan by Sir Lord Baltimore, Butterfly Bleu by Iron Butterfly, Histoires sans paroles by Harmonium and Terrapin Station by the Grateful Dead. But I realize you were limited to 30!
Harvest of souls by IQ
Nice list! As a prog nerd, I also appreciate there are some non-prog ones on here. I’m a little miffed that they basically are all from the 70s, because there are some amazing ones in the last 45 years. Here’s some (plus some others from the 70s I think deserve recognition)
Octavarium - Dream Theater
The Last Human Gateway - IQ
The Odyssey - Symphony X
Our Silent Ballroom Band - Kaipa
Crystallized - Haken
Song for America - Kansas
Natural Science - Rush
Big Swifty - Zappa
The Light - Spock’s Beard
If you haven’t checked em out already I’ve got some great stuff from the modern era. Snowtorch, Chupacabras Microsoft Deathstar and Microdeath Softstar by Phideaux, Sleeping in Traffic by Beardfish, pretty much anything by Liquid Tension Experiment, Dürer’s Rhinocerous by Jack O’ the Clock, the Creature by Sleepytime Gorilla Museum and Iron Lung by King Gizzard
I would have added Camel's "Lady Fantasy" and Caravan's "Nine Feet Underground", but I completely agree about Echoes as #1...oh, and what about Close to the Edge?
Some additions:
- Any song from Ne Obliviscaris - Portal of I
- Garden Of Shadows - Desert Shadows (9:55 minutes, but i dont think it's that significant)
- Opeth: Blackwater Park, The Moor, In Mist She Was Standing, The Baying Of The Hounds
- Inanna - Sea of The Dead
- Wintersun: Sadness and Hate, Time
- Alkaloid - Rise of the Cephalopods
- Most Insomnium 10+ songs
- Katatonia - Tomb Of Insomnia
- Edge of Sanity - Crimson (technically it's all just one song)
- Nile - Unas Slayer Of The Gods
- Any The Ocean 10+ songs
- Any Intronaut 10+ songs
- Ensiferum - Heathen Throne
- Mastodon's songs from Crack the Skye (still great even outside the concept)
- Iron Maiden - Rime of the Ancient Mariner
There're also tons of examples from prog. genres (i.e Tool, Dream Theatre, Rush, Yes) and even more from doom metal (i.e. Reverend Bizarre, Candlemass, Shape of Despair) that I can't possibly try to list here.
Get Ready......Rare Earth
human sadness is good too
Wishbone Ash - Phoenix
CCR - Heard it Through the Grapevine
Cream - Spoonful
Skynyrd - Freebird (live)
Genesis - Musical Box, Cinema Show
Sisters of Mercy - This Corrosion
There’s a load more Floyd too- Interstellar Overdrive, Saucerful of Secrets, Set the Controls, etc.
Also would like to think there’s a way of getting Meat Loaf on there, I know Bat out of Hell is technically 9.50 but still.
I'd add some Dream Theater songs.
Even if I personally like other songs more than Octavarium - this is their masterpiece and deserves to be the no 1 DT song.
Breaking all Illusions
Count of Tuscany
A Change of Seasons
Trivia: "Child In Time" is derived from an instrumental titled "Bombay Calling" by It's A Beautiful Day.
Good list but personally I’d include “Godzilla’s Return”
+ Hendrix 1983 and live Machine Gun!
Maybe a Robin Trower track or two clocks in long too :)
Very surprised nothing by the Dead on there. Dark Star, Terrapin Station, Weather Report Suite, etc. Particularly if you include live versions.
Awesome list ngl
Do you like Pink Floyd?
Kudos for titling this video as My 30 Favorite... and not The Best...
yeh they're alr
@@videosbaisam That was meant to be rhetorical
Great list and kudos for putting in Television and Funkadelic. Moonloop by Porcupine Tree and Crossroads by Southern Empire would make my list
