If you like both Sonic and Dragonball, you will eventually come to a realization: They’re super similar. Like, crazy similar. And since Dragonball came out first, Sonic is often accused of copying it. Now, I’m not actually saying “Ohhh Sonic ripped off Dragonball and it’s lame!” No. The creator is just a big Dragonball fan, and so has paid homage to the show in a few ways.

I heard that the creator of Dragon ball and Yuji Naka the creator of the Sonic franchise were friends.
It was said that Yuji Naka is a major fan of Akira Toriyama and his work.
And he wanted to give a little bit of thanks to him for bringing DBZ to
our lives, so he added elements from his stories to the Sonic games as a
show of gratitude to his work on the DBZ franchise.
I don't think there is any reason for DBZ fans to get upset over Super Sonic,
Shadow the hedgehog, the 7 chaos emeralds(although macguffins are common
in fiction and the number 7 is a popular number, but however they were
most likely inspired from the 7 Dragon Balls) or people from you tube
channels like this one accusing the similarites of being
"rip-offs" when Akira Toriyama doesn't seem to have a problem with it.
Seriously people need to stop running there mouths off on things like these,
people who call out the similarities between Sonic and DBZ haven't
mentioned what I explained and the fact that both Sonic and DBZ
originated from Japan where franchises are inspired from one another,
Naruto and the beyblade metal series have a few elements in their
animations and character personalities based off of DBZ.

Can I just say that Shadow is not a copy of Vegeta due to same personality traits? That's present in multiple different characters that came even before DBZ.
Knuckles is defiantly piccolo. He started out as an enemy and became a strong alley.
Knuckles wasn't a true enemy to Sonic and Tails, he was misguided by Eggman, believing that Sonic wants to steal the Master Emerald and not Eggman! How wrong he was lol.

When will this topic ever be dropped? Sonic did not steal things from Dragon Ball. It just had a few inspirations from it like the Super Saiyan form. And collecting seven items is very common in most franchises. And Dragon Ball is not innocent either. That franchise has done the same thing, too. Even the Dragon Balls themselves were inspired by the crystal balls from an 1814 Japanese novel called Nanso Satomi Hakkenden.
You can make an argument that Goku is Japan's superman. Hell, their origins are damn near identical. Both are aliens from a species that has been mostly wiped out and their species are both known for being "violet and aggressive savages" and known for invading and destroying other planets. Hell like Krypton, Planet Vegeta had substantially stronger gravity than earth. Everything nowadays was inspired by something.

Dr Gero's first appearance in chapter 337 of the manga was August 13, 1991 nearly a 2 month differance

Actually, Shadow and Vegeta aren't similar. They may have been the enemies of the main character and become good but they aren't the same. Shadow worked for Eggman in order to regain his memory and tell him who he is but Eggman didn't do that and took advantage of him. As for Vegeta, His race and planet was destroyed and he worked under frieza. But his plan was to capture the dragon balls inorder to wish for immortality and kill frieza and become ruler of the universe.

According to the movie (which is true to the game), the chaos emeralds bring all thoughts to reality….just like shenron can grant wishes (bringing thoughts to reality).

Just a few things I would like to debunk:
How is sonic 06 dying once and coming back a copy of Dragon ball?
Doctor robotnick came was made in 1990 in a video game that was made before sonic it was about catching animals and putting them in capsules while the android saga came out in 1992 I believe.
The main characters have completely different personalities Sonic has a more smug and cokxy personality while Goku is almost the opposite.
In case you hadn't notice Sonic is a hedgehog he is supposed to have spikey hair and it's not necessarily hair its they're quills while Goku just has spikey hair I don't see how this one is something he copied it's more of a similarity.
Super sonic was being developed before the manga "Legendary super saiyan." Was made so they didn't exactly copy the idea because sonic team thought of the idea first before the manga was made but they didn't make their design first so for this one the idea of super sonic was made but Super saiyan goku design was made first so I'd say the design was heavily inspired but wasn't an exact copy of the idea.

To be honest, the way that the chaos emeralds and the dragon balls are compared is somewhat wrong. The reason the dragon balls are collected is to make a wish/to make wishes. The reason the chaos emeralds are collected is for the character to use their energy in Sonic, Silver and Shadow’s cases, turn super and use chaos control. Yes, there may be the whole fact that there are seven of each object but the chaos emeralds can be used individually.

Dr Robotnik is impossible to be Dr Gero since Sonic was released in 1991 and the Cell saga in 92/93. It appeared to be just a coincidence or otherwise, Dr. Gero was inspired in some way in Eggman/Robotnik (which... no, realy, they are way different physically and mentally). Oh and no, Toriyama and Yuji were not good friends, it actually was Yuji Naka who whorshipped Dragon Ball and its creator so hard he put several DB references in his games. If they are or were friends, it was later than that.

MidgetAbsol that's true, in fact Dr. Robotnik predates sonic himself, sega had an internal company competition to create a company mascot, Dr. Robotnik (then and now eggman) was submitted in the first round, he wore pyjamas at the time, sonic was submitted later and ended up taking eggman's place as the new protagonist for a video game, eggman was still popular among the company and not wanting his design to go to waste, the Devs tweaked his design and made him an antagonist
